bucking the idea that bigger is better. apple is set taunveil a new line of products today with all the buzz about a smaller, sleeker iphone. ramping up efforts to fix the problem that b.a.r.t. still hasn't diagnosed. almost a week after a power surge knocked out 50 cars, the entire b.a.r.t. system remains slowed up. a live look now from the south bay as showers could strengthen in just a few hours. "today in the bay" starts right now. good monday morning to you. thanks so much for joining us. i'm laura garcia-cannon. >> i'm sam brock. for those of us on the road at 3:30, we saw patches of rain.

>> good morning, sam and laura, we will have more rain as we go through the rest of the day. most of us right now taking a break from those showers and you do see the wet spots left over from the rain we had very early this morning and seeing the moisture streaming in and a couple splotches of green on the radar there. we will still have temperatures in the 50s and a chance of rain throughout the morning and early afternoon. highs today reaching 6 2 degrees in the east bay and the south bay today 64 degrees. much cooler than we had over the weekend and we will have rain that could drop at any time during the day. i'll talk more about that and what to expect as we dry out this week. that's coming up in a few minutes. let's head to the trivalley now with mike. >> preparing for the rain drop but right now some rain drops and slicker conditions and 580 and even the tassajara looks just fine. little build out of the altamont

typical at this time and traffic coming in through the area and also watching this morning for highway 4 and maybe more surface street traffic because we continue with the b.a.r.t. story. you continue with the b.a.r.t. story. six b.a.r.t. repairs and commuters will continue to use a bus between north concord and pittsburg bay point. >> a story we hope has a happy ending. pete, any word any longer this bus bridge is going to be in place? >> well, good morning, guys. we know that bus bridge will be in place at least this morning and hoping to get an update later on from b.a.r.t. to see how much longer this is going to go. b.a.r.t. said a power surge affected the tracks in this area between pittsburg bay point and damaging 50 cars on top of the 80 cars that was damaged in the similar situation traveling through the east bay tube. but having been able to pinpoint

the root cause of this problem it will take months to repair the damage trains but service between the two contra costa station should occur before then and expect, also, get here early because they're going to need some additional travel time. we're live in north concord, pete suratos. >> pete, thank you very much. happening later today, all eyes on apple which is about to introduce its latest line of products. many insiders don't believe the company is ready to roll out a new iphone 7. that should happen they anticipate in the fall. more likely analysts expect a smaller and cheaper iphone. >> people who don't really care to have these larger screen iphones but maybe they don't want to be left behind from everything that is new right now like apple pay. >> apple is also not expected to roll out a new watch either. but new accessories could be in

the works along with an updated ipad air. also possible ceo tim cook addresses a looming shut down. that case is expected to land in court tomorrow. also happening today the trial continues for the former stanford swimmer accused of rape. rock turner was arrested in january of last year. the swimmer is charged with three counts of assaulting a 23-year-old uc santa barbara graduate. turner was trying to assault the victim while she was unconscious. one of those witnesses also chased turner down after he tried to run away. turner withdrew from stanford after his arrest. today can be a key day in the lamar murder trial. more dna evidence that could delay the trail for months. 12 dna profiles found on lamar's pants and one of those was of the suspect garcia torres. the judge is expecting to rule

on that request later today if the defense gets its way, the trial might not start next month as scheduled. sierra lamar disappeared four months ago and her family spent the weekend in morgan hill looking for her. we mentioned we started the day a little drizzly out there. >> be ready at any time we might see some rain, kari. >> light rain, not expecting anything heavy today. as you head out a, have the umbrella handy as we're not seeing much rain as of now. mostly cloudy skies in the north bay and also the south bay and that could lead to patchy ground fog with mostly clear skies and leftover moisture and humidity in the air. 56 degrees now in oakland and 54 in oakland and highs today will be in the low to mid-60s and even have some upper 50s in the outer sunset. san francisco up to 61 degrees and 61 in napa and oakland 62 and also 62 today in livermore. i'll have a look at the full microclimate forecast coming up

at 4:39 right now. former california inmate who won the right to have a sexual reassignment surgery is making plans to have that surgery on her own this summer. if you remember, last year a federal judge, laura, ordered the state prison system to provide that surgery to michelle norsworthy but paroled before the operation could go forward.

she told "the chronicle" this week that she hopes to get the surgery this summer through california's low income health insurance program. she is proud of her high-profile legal battle with the state because it led to improved treatment for transgender inmates. good news for air bnb. othe online lodging service book private homes in cuba. to move comes after air bnb got special permission from the obama administration to expand. operating in cuba for about a year now, but only in a very limited way. the new authorization announced yesterday allows anyone in the world to book a stay in cuba. meantime, live pictures right now from havana, cuba. president obama visiting the cuban capital and breaking a decade old's freeze on declarations with that country. the last time an american president visited the island

nation was in 1928 and that was president calvin coolidge. a new dawn, clearly. today is an important one for president obama. >> he will meet with president raul castro and two leaders certainly have a lot to talk about. jay gray live in havana this morning. jay, the president has a lot on his plate today. >> yeah. he's waking up along with the rest of cuba to what are extreme wins and a bit of rain, as well. an important day yesterday with the first family touring old havana today goes from touring to the business at hand here discussing, renewing a relationship with cuban president raul castro. as you guys were talking about it breaks an 88-year silence between the two countries as they sit down for bilateral talks today. several hours of talks scheduled and then a state dinner this evening where, again, presumably, the two will have time to chat.

the hunger for a little more rain here at, what? 4:45 right now. >> the garden could certainly use it. my hair, not so much, kari. >> yeah, today, you know, not even bother with trying to style your hair because it will be raining off and on and breezy winds and it is super humid out there. as we take a look now at the radar, we see a couple of splotches of light green, just mainly light sprinkles this morning. else where we have clear skies and fog this morning. temperatu temperaturewise we're at 49 degrees in livermore and oakland 46 degrees and 47 now in napa. a mild start to the day as we go hour by hour, we'll be at 54 degrees at 7:00 and still some clouds throughout the morning and early afternoon and we'll have a chance of showers even

through later on today. at 1:00 or:00 you may see some of those showers dropping. this is a look at the futurecast. this shows what the radar could look like and we do see some of those scattered showers moving through parts of the north bay by 9:00 this morning. heavier downpours there and rolling past napa and parts of san francisco, the east bay and the south bay may also have some rain also moving through the peninsula. it will be hit or miss all throughout the day and hard to tell exactly what time it will rain, but just be prepared at any point you could see some of that rain coming down. even into tomorrow afternoon. we still see some lingering showers for parts of the north bay and then it all rolls out of here. we will be in the clear for the rest of the week and during this time we're looking at the potential of 0.25 all across the bay area. not expecting a significant downpour. as we go into the next several days, we will have temperatures topping out in the 70s. so, as you make plans for the weekend, it will be a very nice one. and we will have some very warm

temperatures as we head through the rest of the week. you can tell by the seven-day forecast at the bottom of your screen will heat up into the upper 70s as we go towards tuesday, as well as wednesday and into thursday. overall, looking like a very nice week and nice to get those show showers in to start our workweek. let's see what's happening as you head across the bay area, here's mike. >> 880 not a lot of standard water right here in this shot, but we do have this. one set of lights and we did have a couple crew there's. looks like an ambulance and fire crew and one crew to help out with whatever this crash was. south 880 and your map will show you not a lot of slowing for the southbound side or for the northbound side for that matter. all around the bay, a nice, easy drive. highway 4 and last week with the closure the b.a.r.t. line. the end of the b.a.r.t. line between pittsburg north point and we saw more traffic. likely see more folks hitting

meanwhi meanwhile, prices at the pump are moving higher. the average price of regular unleaded raising 25 cents in the past month to $2.02 and san jose gas is at $2.65. while it's higher in san francisco at $2.75 a gallon and that reflects higher oil prices and gas could rise further even if oil doesn't as refiners switch to the more expensive blend of fuel for the summer. amazon is warning kindle users you better update it by tuesday. owners who haven't updated will lose their internet connection meaning that you won't be able to get online and download books any more. if you use your kindle on a regular basis or have one from 2012 you are fine because the those devices upgrade automatically. a water main break caused a mess in santa rosa over the

weekend. this happened yesterday morning on college avenue near brookwood drive. that is just north of the downtown area. crews were able to shut off the water quickly and the line is now repaired. drivers were diverted around the region but the road was eventually reopened. new fallout for cal basketball in the wake of a sexual harassment scandal. a prize recruit is now abandoning his plans to play for the school. jolly tweeted over the weekend, "given the uncertainty at cal reopen my recruitment. this was not an easy decision, but the right one. jolly signed with cal last year and then chose to play one year at prep school. last week cal fired assistant coach yann hufnagel. he denies those accusations and the school is conducting an inal investigation. as for the tournament, hawaii upset the bears friday in the first round of the ncaa. it is 4:50 right now. say happy birthday to twitter.

the san francisco company turns 10 years old today. on this day, a decade ago, co-founder and ceo jack dorsy sent the social network first tweet. the 140 character tweets have given voice to some of the biggest online moments. despite seeing the stock prices drop, twitter maintained over 3320 million active users. >> using multiple times in the morning oor even more. 4:51 right now. some fun on the campaign trail. >> donald trump serenading and dancing. do you want to see this video? >> before breakfast? i don't know. we'll see. happening right now, commuters should note that the last two stations on the pittsburg bay point line are still shut down. buss are shuttling commuters and pete suratos is live at one of those stations. meantime apple today rolling out its newest line of products.

good monday morning. i'm meteorologist kari hall. we're taking a look at the next three days and showers in the forecast today and then clearing out in the south bay. temperatures up to 69 degrees by wednesday. also on the peninsula, we'll have spotty sprinkle or two, mainly some light showers today and little bit heavier at times in san francisco. the next couple of days after today we will be warming up. a lot of sun in that forecast and temperatures reaching 70 degrees in the north bay. but we do need the umbrella as

we go into this afternoon. as we go into the next several days, we see our temperatures warming up as wae go into the middle of the week. we will be talking more about the dry weather that will be moving in. what else to expect as we go through the rest of the workweek. that will be coming up a little bit later. let's head out the door and see how the morning commute is going with mike. >> take you to the north bay. and san rafael southbound. water off the side of the roadway. light rain even contributes to lots of traction, but we're looking towards the rest of the bay and, in fact, north bay included and we see the speed sensors are not showing a problem. over here surface streets headed towards lombard and an aearlier crash still on the side of the road and let's say all lanes are clear and stay over to the left, if you can. passing southbound by 66 and rest of your bay looks really good. no surprises. back to you. >> thank you, mike. things continuing to heat up on the election trail, campaign trail. voters in three more states

heading to the polls tomorrow. primaries in arizona and utah. arizona the big surprise for both parties with 75 delegates at stake and 58 full republicans. polls show hillary clinton is leading sanders by a wide margin. on the gop side donald trump beating ted cruz by ten points. more boots on the ground in iraq after an isis attack killed killed a marine and injured others. died in a rocket strike on saturday. he is the first u.s. service member to die this year. officials issued a brief statement saying more marines will be sent to iraq, but the exact number is not being disclosed. what's black and white and running all over? >> newspaper. >> there you go. >> two zebras on the loose on the streets of oakland. >> at least they were on friday. here's the photo of the pair on the lamb after escaping from a traveling circus set up near 0.co coliseum.
