championships coming up in a little while. let's start on this monday morning with our top story. new surveillance video just released this morning highlighting the so-called man in white, who was with the suicide bombers at the airport in brussels. let's get right to nbc's keir simmons. he's got more on this. keir, good morning. >> reporter: hey, matt. good morning. terrible news this morning that four people who were injured didn't make it through the weekend, taking the total who were killed in these attacks to 35. a state department official confirming that now they believe four americans are among the dead. meanwhile, police here this morning issuing a new appeal for the man in the white, the man wearing a hat seen in surveillance video at the airport. that appeal includes this video. that is among multiple developments this morning in the investigation. on his knees, at gunpoint, police believe this man provided false identity papers to three terrorists.

algerian alawi apprehended in southern italy allegedly part of a criminal underworld, facilitating an isis network in europe. brussels police investigating last week's attacks at the airport and metro, naming the suspect from a democratic arrest. armed officers helping a child to safety, sending in a bomb disposal robot before dragging away the man. while in the dutch city of rotterdam, four men were held. one suspected of involvement in planning the attack. italy, france, belgium, where there were 13 house raids sunday, to the netherlands and germany. the tensions in belgium turned to confrontation with police. far right protesters branded fascists by opponents, throwing missiles and flares. riot police are pushing the protesters back to avoid potential clashes. you can see them moving forward now.

a march against fear had been planned, and then canceled over security fears. brussels struggling to return to normality. the road to the airport remains closed. it's still not clear when flights will resume. and then there's the man in white seen at the airport with two suicide bombers. belgian media reporting police believe he's shefu. nbc news has not confirmed those reports. in 2014, a man by the same name posted an internet documentary about the mistreatment of muslim detainees. this morning, six days after the airport attack, police haven't specified his alleged role. arrested saturday, he's facing charges, including terrorist assassination, or terrorist murder. this morning, there's news of three more suspects in charge. but guys, mystery surrounds that man in white. the fact that the police have put out a new appeal suggests they may not have him in custody. the man who we're seeing with two of the suicide bombers at

alex set to be married. >> monday, i went to sleep hoping i would pick up my aunt in the airport. >> reporter: alee that was heading to rhode island for a relative's funeral. instead, she texted family members this photo at the airport shortly before she died. but while families grieve, others are thankful. >> i'm just glad he's alive. >> this morning, richard norbi is out of his medically induced coma. his family describing how they burst into sobs of joy. he was with a group of mormon missionaries from utah. >> how are you doing? >> i'm doing awesome. i'm feeling good. >> 20-year-old joe empi also improving. his parents hoping to bring him back home later this week. >> just sit and think about it, just think how tragic it could have been and how tragic it was for so many people. we're really lucky. really, really lucky. >> reporter: in addition to justin and stephanie, overnight

the state department confirmed that two more americans were among the dead. their identities have not been released. matt and savannah? >> all right, gabe gutierrez, thank you. we have to turn now to another devastating terror attack. this one targeting christians as they celebrated easter at a crowded park in pakistan. nbc's chief foreign correspondent richard engel is with us here in new york with the latest on this. richard, good morning. >> it seems like every day on this show or another show talking about yet another terrorist attack. this one was uniquely horrific. 70 dead, according to some reports, which is just testimony to how crowded this park was and how powerful the explosive was as well. in pakistan this morning, the death toll has climbed to the dozens, and the target was uniquely sinister. even for a terrorist attack. the suicide bomber attacked a park in the city of lahore where christian families gathered to celebrate easter sunday. witnesses said the explosion happened near rides in the park.

hundreds were injured, mostly women and children. the attack was claimed by a splinter group of the pakistani taliban, whose spokesman told nbc news the group proudly takes responsibility. speaking from an undisclosed location, the group said the intended targets were christian men celebrating easter. local television broadcast much of the grisly scene. ambulances struggling to get in and out of the site, the wounded carried out by first responders and civilians. in a statement, the pakistani army says it is resolved to bring the killers to justice. but now those responsible are warning of more violence, saying this was the first in a series of planned attacks throughout the country. the u.s. state department condemned this "cowardly act" in the strongest possible terms. pakistan's punjab province has declared three days of mourning. this was a terrible, terrible attack. >> thank you for the report. we turn now to politics and a new feud in the presidential race is developing between

republican rivals donald trump and ted cruz, and on the democratic side, bernie sanders is trying to capitalize on a clean sweep of three contests over the weekend. nbc national correspondent peter alexander is keeping an eye on both races for us this morning. hey peter, good morning. >> good monday morning to you. barely a week until their next primary showdown in wisconsin, donald trump and ted cruz are clashing again over their personal lives as trump's foreign policy views are coming under new scrutiny today. trump telling "the new york times" for many years, the u.s. has been, in his words, the big stupid bully, systematically ripped off by everybody. for the republicans, an encore of insults. >> he attacks my wife. he attacks my family. he goes to garbage and sleaze and lies. >> ted cruz again blaming donald trump for what he's calling a tabloid smear, a "national enquirer" story suggesting cruz may have had extramarital aff r affairs. trump denying any involvement. >> the "national enquirer" did a story. it was their story. it wasn't my story. i have no idea whether it was

right or not. they actually have a very good record of being right. but i have absolutely no idea. >> the frontrunner, without citing any evidence, accusing cruz or his campaign of buying the rights to that gq photo of his wife melania used in an anti-trump ad. the cruz camp saying not true. john kasich insisting the personal attacks should stop. >> families have to be off-limits. i mean, you cannot get these attacks on families. >> meanwhile, trump is touting his foreign policy plans, telling "the new york times" he's unpredictable by design, arguing he's not isolationist, but better described as america first. under consideration, putting a stop to importing oil from saudi arabia if they don't pay more for their defense. potentially allowing japan and south korea to go nuclear, and complaining that iran isn't buying american planes before it was pointed out to him that iran is still under sanctions and can't buy from the u.s. as for the billionaire's favorite megaphone, trump said

>> momentum into next week. a week from tomorrow wisconsin. we've had lots s of primaries. wisconsin has its own day. huge opportunity for bernie sanders. if he can beat her there, and then come two weeks later here into new york. she's still the heavy favorite. but his big victory, fundraising, let's see what happens in wisconsin. it's a huge face-off on the democrats' side. >> let's stay on the republican side. it's potentially clarifying there, too. >> also huge for the republicans. the first state since we've gone down to three, trump, cruz, kasich. all three are trying to win. we haven't had a state where all three have gone for the victory. it's a huge state. trump has problems in wisconsin. conservative talk radio doesn't like him there. it's a huge face-off for the republicans as well. could be clarifying. if trump wins wisconsin, he gets even closer to being the nominee. if he loses new york and other states become competitive as well. >> let me ask you to weigh in here on this war of words between ted cruz and donald trump over each other's wives, and now these rumors from the "national enquirer" over alleged infideli

infidelity. most people would think that serious voters would be nauseated by this. what impact is it having on the race? >> i think it's a testing for the two of them. our politics has been rough since the founding of the republic. this is not the first time personal lives have councilmember. it's a test for both of them. i'll be curious to see if they both continue this week. i don't think it's smart for ted cruz to fight with donald trump over this. and also donald trump does have a problem with female voters. and how female voters respond to this i think is a big question now, and then in the general election for donald trump if he's the nominee. >> you kind of made the point i was wondering about. because as much as i'm sure ted cruz does not like these attacks, it isn't as though he, you know, responded once and then let it go. every chance they get, he's saying this is ridiculous, this is outrageous. so does he see something of a political opportunity there as well? >> it is where the conversation is for some voters and some of the media. and it is where he feels he wants to fight donald trump now. but i don't think he'll beat donald trump playing this game.

if you're a republican or if he's the nominee if you're a democrat, i think issues are going to matter more. i'd be surprised if both of them try to keep this going this week. >> you start to see a trickle of key republicans like jeb bush and john mccain and lindsey graham a couple weeks ago moving over to ted cruz, trying to stump donald trump. frank bruney wrote about this in "the new york times" yesterday, saying they expect cruz to lose the presidency, but then they also expect trump to lose it, and to lose it in an uglier, more divisive fashion. this lose with cruz faction figures that a reset of the party after a cruz defeat would be possible, whereas trump might not leave them with much of a party to reset. do you agree with that? >> there are a lot of republicans that think that. neither ted cruz nor donald trump today is particularly well-positioned to win a general election. a lot of republicans in the so-called establishment are saying let's find the way to keep control of the house, maybe keep control of the senate, and minimize our losses and rebranding the party. donald trump and ted cruz want to re-brand the republican party.

and a lot of republicans think that's a dangerous thing. a lot of voters think it's a good thing. that's why they're the two leading candidates right now. >> mark halperin, always good to see you. have a good week. now to a troubling arrest in detroit to tell you about. an american airlines co-pilot pulled off a plane and taken into custody moments before takeoff on suspicion that he was drunk. nbc's ron mott is at the detroit metropolitan airport for us. ron, good morning. >> reporter: good morning, savannah. this probably happens more than any of us would really want to know. a pilot or co-pilot showing up to work under the influence of alcohol. officials here in detroit say that's exactly what happened here over the weekend. an american airlines co-pilot pulled off an early morning flight from detroit to philadelphia. >> they had him hand kufd and they were putting him into the vehicle. >> reporter: the pilot announced there was a problem with the co-pilot's seat. at first, she laughed it off. >> oh, there's the police car. they're coming to get somebody. and then i looked out and saw them walking. i went oh, they really are.

>> reporter: tsa agents spotted the co-pilot acting strangely and notified airport authorities that they suspected he was drunk. it happens about once a month, according to the faa. a pilot or co-pilot is found to be drunk on the job. faa regulations include a so-called bottle to throttle rule. no flying within eight hours of consuming alcohol or a blood alcohol level of .04. the co-pilot of the american airlines flight allegedly testing above the legal limit, according to an faa statement. american airlines canceled the flight, leaving a number of spring breakers without a ride. one posting, spring break busted, #thanks. in a statement, american apologized, writing, this is a serious matter and we are assisting local law enforcement and the federal aviation administration with the investigation. >> everyone was talking about it. they were stunned when they figured out what it was. i'm glad i'm safe and they got him. >> reporter: the unidentified pilot is believed to be in his early 50s, and while the official rule is eight hours

kn monday morning i'm meteorologist kari hall. sunshine as you head out the door. once again this morning and cool temperatures. a live look at the golden gate bridge. everything looks great there. we will also have the sunshine throughout the day and snow to the east of us and a couple light spotty showers to the north and the chance we could have a little bit of rain over the east bay until later on today. some of those showers could fire off later on. we'll be watching out for that. otherwise, expect mostly sunny skies and temperatures that will be cooler than yesterday, reaching the 50s near the coast and low 60s inland and up to 64 today in napa. let's see what's happening on the roadway with anthony. >> things are pretty slow and this is from the hayward side. barely making its way over towards the peninsula but it's moving. no accidents but it's a typical slowing that we usually find here and there and that is the case across the east bay. same build for 680, it builds spots.

the airport. police issuing a new appeal for information. you see him there. it includes this video. he is walking with two of the airport suicide bombers. minutes after the footage is recorded the explosives detonate. reports that the police have apprehended him now say that's not the case. this morning three more suspects have been charged. news from a state department official that the americans now believe that three -- four americans died in those attacks, including stephanie and justin shults, who were just going to the airport to drop their mom off. as you mentioned, news, too, that four people who were injured didn't make it overnight, bringing the death total now to 35. natalie. >> keir simmons in brussels for us. thank you, keir. pakistan has declared three days of mourning for the victims of an easter terrorist bombing in a children's park. the suicide attack in lahore

killed at least 70 people. many women and children. about 300 people wounded. a splinter group of the pakistani taliban claimed responsibility saying the intended targets were christian men celebrating easter. pakistan's army is vowing to bring the killers to justice. family members jump from their windows to escape a fire overnight in a denver apartment building. they were trapped on the second and third floors. 11 people suffered minor injuries from the jump. restaurant chains and food stores will get more time to start posting calorie counts on their menus. food and drug administration now says it will delay the new rules until 2017. they were supposed to go into effect at the end of this year. there has been a strong opposition from many in the prepared-food industry. the rules were passed as part of the health care overhaul in 2010. a car-jacker tried to pull a fast one on police even after their high-speed chase had ended. los angeles police say the suspect stole a pickup truck from another woman in her own

driveway. she led them through a residential area, driving up curbs and over lawns. when she was finally forced to stop, she came out with her hands up but then tried to jump into the driver's seat of the police cruiser. she was tackled and arrested. the truck's owner watched the chase live on tv and said she was just praying that nobody got hurt. they got their woman there. as an athlete knows, some losses hurt more than others. spring training game between chicago and seattle delayed for five minutes sunday when, look at this, a cloud of bees swarmed the field in mesa, arizona. cubs outfielder jason heyward tried to escape by climbing the fence. he was stung more than ten times. however, he still managed to swat a two-run homer. but his cubs ended up losing 12-9. that had to really hurt on top of all of those stings. >> ever get stung more than once? >> no. never been stung.

earlier in the southwest. we do have fire weather advisories, red flag warnings, because the wind is combining with humidity around 14 or so percent. it's very dry and any fire that develops could spread rapidly. this goes for most of new mexico and into parts of western texas and most of arizona as well. right in the red area here including tucson we could see our best chance of any fire spreading rapidly. we're looking at gusty winds about to 40 miles per hour. this area of low pressure will develop into a rain maker by the middle of the week. besides the northeast, the rest of the country and 50 in san francisco and a few more clouds mixing in this

a call from alex and sashcha's mother saying that they were in the delta ticket line when the bomb went off. that started a 72-hour ordeal beginning with cameron posting on facebook. including cameron and her mother wandering the hauls of the hospitals in brussels trying to pass out pictures to try to find them. eventually late thursday night we were told that they were -- they were no -- they were not -- not among the remaining living victims. >> those must have been agonizing hours for the entire family. what would you want people to show about alex? >> alex was a wonderful young man. brilliant. i have said that before. he had an incredible mind. just incredible ability to recall detail. he loved the outdoors. he loved new york. he loved north carolina. but he had a real soft side. we took alex and helen's mother

nobody has had a better year than jordan spieth. five tournaments, two majors. winning him the title 2015 pga tour player of the year. nice to have you back. how are you doing? >> everything is good. >> the good news is you are the 2015 player of the year. you won two majors, all these other tournaments. expectations now huge for you. is it tough? >> sure. we try to stick to our own expectations.

i've certainly set them really high the last few years. we've been able to achieve them. now we know what we're capable of doing in a year, so why not set them up there again. >> so what specifically did you change in terms of your goals for this year? what are you looking to do? what are you looking to accomplish? >> for me this year, i'm going to try to have a chance to win at least two majors on sunday afternoon. if we can do it in all of them again, it would be spectacular. but getting ourselves up there, at the biggest events the year is key. >> i'm sitting here looking at your jacket. the masters champion jacket. >> my proudest possession. >> as that comes up in a couple weeks, do you prepare for that any differently being the defending champ? >> i don't think i would do anything different from last year. last year i played the couple weeks prior. i am looking at doing that again. try and get myself into a rhythm. try and get kind of the mental mistakes out of the way that you can make in your first week off after an off week. >> let's talk about the sport in general a little bit. any sport, to survive, has to

inspire the next yen racigenera players. i've been impressed with golf's chip, drive and putt competition. do you like it? >> i was there at augusta national for the inaugural event. anybody can compete. you go to one of hundreds of qualifying sites to try to work your way up to be one of the 80 participants that kick off masters week. as a junior golfer, i would be grinding to try to get this chance. i was there on the sunday the first time it happened. it was incredible. it felt like a masters round with kind of the chatter around the cheers, the echos for these kids. >> that they'll never forget. >> yeah. they were able to putt to a sunday pin to pretty much the feeling of winning a masters when you're actually there. it's really incredible. >> you started out young. when you started playing golf at a young age -- i have a son who loves golf. his friends think basketball and

baseball are cool. >> sure. >> when you were growing up did your friends think golf was cool? >> it was the same deal. i had a group of friends from school. we played all sports together. i was really the only one, with maybe one or two others, who enjoyed golf. the others really liked the action of the other sports. i loved being able to control my own destiny, putting in my own work and being able to see that kind of come through. >> the olympics are coming up this summer. golf back in them for the first time in a long time. looking at your jacket there, how would standing on a podium with a gold medal around your neck hearing the national anthem compare to standing at augusta as they place the jacket on your shoulders? >> it's difficult to tell, but i can't imagine anything better than standing up there knowing that you have accomplished something for your country, for your family, for yourself like an olympic podium. walking the opening ceremonies with the best athletes in the world will be maybe the coolest golf experience of my life.

your lip and that bacteria is living on your lipstick as well. >> how lovely! >> yes. all you want to do is take a disinfecting wipe that's usually used for cosmetics. don't use anything that's toxic or has chemicals on it. and give it a wipe. do it once or twice after reapplying. >> how do you make sure it doesn't get smushed? >> if you use a wipe, gently press against it. if it has alcohol in it it will kill the bacteria. >> let's do brushes and blenders. >> this is a beauty blender. it's a sponge. so it works really well for when you are applying your makeup to make it look like a seamless finish. it's a sponge, so it absorbs the foundation and makeup you're putting in it. mix liquid soap with warm water in a bowl. >> like dishwasher soap or hand soap? >> anything is fine. anything that will start to get

all of the -- >> sudsy? >> yeah. get it all sudsy. you can see the bowl is already pretty gross. that's all been putting on your face. >> yeah. okay. >> then you just rinse it off in warm water. >> all right. >> warm water. okay. then dry it out? >> yeah. let it dry. once it's good to go. it's already better. >> it looks better. it does. talk to me about the brushes. >> the brushes. you should be doing this about once a week. you can mix olive oil and dish soap in a little bowl and just start to rub the makeup brush around in the solution. >> yep. >> this will start to get all of the grime off of it. basically what happens is, when your makeup brushes are dirty, you have all the oils on your face and everything going into the brush and mixing with the foundation and it works as like a breeding ground for bacteria. >> 30 seconds left. lightning round. rinse it out and lay it out to dry. >> yes. for a blow dryer use a tooth

wage in the nation. eventually reaching $15 an hour by the year 2022. between now and then, minimum wage would jump in yearly increments from the current $10 an hour. word of the deal first leaked out over the weekend. an agreement would offset what had been brewing up to be a big political battle this fall. first 50-cent increase would come next year. some cities including san francisco already have the $15 per hour minimum wage aeady in place. a look at traffic and weather after the break.

the east bay. now let's check in with anthony to see what's happening on the roads. >> things are starting to thin out especially at the bay bridge toll plaza. things moving here without a problem. we are seeing the back-up starting to thin so traffic is starting to at least lighten up across the bay area. things moving without a problem across 880. earlier we had the stop-and-go traffic approaching the san mateo bridge. now the stop-and-go is in the south bay, 101 toward santa clara, couple accidents 880 northbound headed out of san jose. more local news for you in just a half-hour.

taking a look at the headlines, an american airlines co-pilot was detained this weekend at detroit's metropolitan airport suspected of being drunk. the faa says the co-pilot was scheduled to fly a plane from detroit to philadelphia but was stopped at a security checkpoint. he is suspected of having a blood alcohol level above the legal limit. american airlines spokeswoman says the flight was canceled and customers were put on other flights. american says it is helping authorities with their investigation. restaurant chains and food stores will get more time to start posting calorie counts on their menus. food and drug administration says it will delay the rules until some time in 2017. they were supposed to go into effect some time this year. there is strong opposition from
