let's get a look at the bay bridge now with mike. >> kari, look over here and a beautiful view of the span and beautiful span to look at and nice flow of traffic. that is what i should be concentrating on. we'll show you the map where you shouldn't have to worry about it across the span. no delays for the b.a.r.t. system. we'll talk about that bay point to north concord link in a few minutes. i want to urge you to take that if you're going towards the a's or the warriors over at the coliseum or the arena, both having games tonight. and a lot of traffic there after work. and right now not a lot of traffic. we'll send it back to you. now, to a developing story and san francisco police investigating a deadly shooting overnight that happened shortly after 9:00 near silver and san bruno avenues. police are not releasing a lot of details at this point, but we do know that one person was taken to sf general. we're not sure about that victim's condition this morning. we are waiting to hear more information from police. we'll update you as soon as we

get it into your newsroom. right now a very disturbing discovery under a san francisco business. plumbers were digging and came across a human skull and bones and now the medical examiner is trying to figure out whether they belong to a man or a woman or whether it's just one person or whether there's more than one person there. >> now, it's a matter of doing some digging of our own and trying to find out what exactly happened. and do we have a homicide here. and, if so, where is the suspect. >> now, city records indicate that the building is more than 100 years old. a forensic pathologist told us that the deceased person may have been buried there for months, years, perhaps even centuries. at 5:01 on your tuesday. kate steinle's accused shooter will be in court today. he will be in court to set

future court dates. pled not guilty in the shooting death of steinle. lopez sanchez said a gun he found accidentally went off. that gun was reported stolen. the family of a 19-year-old san jose man who was killed by a pleasanton police officer is filing a federal lawsuit against the department. police say jon deming jr. broke into a car dealership and started jumping on cars and attacked the officer. the seven-month investigation found the officer was acting in self-defense. the family claims the officer was going through preemotional stress and should not have been on patrol. a new twist in the case after getting beaten by sheriff deputies. accusing law enforcement of foul play. her son was moved to the marin county jail where deputies there also beat him. a marin county sergeant denies all those allegations. this coming after fbi agents

raided a house where they found a weapon and arrested petrov. the mother says her son is now being targeted. >> this horrible event which we saw on friday. it's on the top. >> and his mother is suing alameda county over that beating in november. she says her son suffered brain injuries and post-traumatic stress. petrov meantime will be arraigned tomorrow. happening today, the city of san francisco may be the first in the nation to approve six weeks of fully paid leave for new parents. in california, workers already get 55% of their pay for maternity and paternity leave. but today supervisors are expected to vote on that plan, which would require workers to back fill the rest of the workers' pay. also today mayor ed lee is teaming up with the san francisco giants to make a big donation to make a wish. the new surveillance footage shows thieves walking around the

san francisco building right before they broke in and stole a fund-raiser item. the suspect stole several items including the electric scooter once owned by giants outfielder hunter pence. he had donated that scooter. mayor ed lee is stepping up with the help of the giants to replace eight i pads that were also stolen. requires some explainer here. five 23-foot rabbits will tower over civic center plaza for the next three weeks. why, you ask. that insulation was created by an australian artist and the message is highlighting the environmental damage caused by nonnative species to new habitats. rabbits were introduced to australia in 1788. the animals have destroyed many habitats since then. i kind of want to see what they look like. >> that's true. i think we will probably later today. let's check in with meteorologist kari hall. probably not a good day to be a

rabbit floating through the sky. >> we're going to have a nice weather to start out the day, but this afternoon we'll all be scurrying inside to get some air conditioning. let's take a look out there right now. 50 degrees in san francisco and the south bay. and a look at the highs this afternoon up to 76 degrees in san francisco and 83 degrees in the east bay peninsula 82 and up to 87 degrees today in the north bay. our temperatures will be near records. some new records may be set, but i think tomorrow will be the day where we will see new records being set all across the bay area. i'll talk more about that and we'll look ahead to a much cooler weekend. that's coming up in a few minutes. let's head over to mike tracking problems as you head out the door. >> and so the rabbit reference and a tri-valley moves very smoothly for 580. let's look at your map. a good volume of traffic and the

speed sensors don't show any slowing over here towards the dublin interchange. back over here at the altamont pass. not a major commute spot but going on for the tri-valley. everything else moving smoothly and typical overnight crews starting to move now. typically the area you see the crews walking one lane and a smooth drive and no problems through the south bay or peninsula. we'll watch as this starts to kick in because it is tuesday and we expect a bigger volume later on. back to you. >> thanks, mike. nerves rattled at a bay area elementary school after a coyote wandered on to campus. the wild animal seen roaming the playground before classes began yesterday. no wan was hurt. yesterday morning. now, that's not the first time a coyote has been spotted in this part of san francisco. engelside terrace. very near san francisco state university but the first time that a coyote has drifted on to school property here. in response a sign went up from project coyote. that's the coyote preservationest group advising people not to feed it and to make noise. now, sunday, the neighbor took a photo of a coyoto here near, possibly the same coyote. we're not sure on that. the school is dealing with it by instructing students to stay away from the animal. >> for the children, i wanted them to think this is not a dog. i can be friendly. i can go up and feed it something. >> i'm glad they were talking about it with the kids. i think just making sure the kids all know what to do if they see one and what to do if they see it. >> last month two dogs were attacked by a coyote.

so far the city's response. they cannot trap coyotes or relocate them until they harm humans. animal care and control plans an educational campaign here in this part of the city and a community meeting, as well. i'm chuck coppola, "today in the bay." a test that the feds are taking along the bay bridge that could expose a lot more dangerous problem. more concern this morning that tesla may not be able to build all those cars as fast as we'd hope. we'll take a look coming up in "business and tech." the greatest end to a national championship game. a three-pointer that won it all. and speaking of three-pointers. warriors seth curry made a few this season. he's back at home with the rest of the team facing off with the timberwolves at oracle arena at 7:30. now here is a warning. there is a warriors game and an a's game tonight. anyone trying to drive anywhere near that area should be

knocking out train cars. b.a.r.t. is still looking into the cause of those problems nch nch. the fez are in san francisco this week because the concrete, as you probably know, is crumbling and not just because of wear and tear over the last 80 years. corrosion is also to blame. a piece of the wall fell on a car back in january and then cal trans found more than a dozen damage area along the bridge. cal trains are using equipment that could see inside of that concrete. >> getting a real good look of what look like not just on the surface, but several feet back, as well. also give us an idea if there are any problems farther beyond the tunnel from what the eye can only see. >> cal trans says no serious issue for driver safety. the conclusion from a new white house report. it warns that global warming is impacting people's health.

people are getting sicker with higher rates of as mu and heat-related deaths, as well. other health news now, kris. health officials trying to figure out where the zika virus will strike next. a team from hawaii has helped the federal government respond to disasters before. now, overall the virus has triggered outbreaks in 41 different countries and the world health organization declared zika virus a "public health emergency of international concern p." sam's favorite story this morning. facebook will help out blind and visually impaired users. uses artificial intelligence to recognize objects and faces in photos and dictate those details allowed. that feature right now is only available on facebook iphone and ipad apps but soon offered on android devices and on the facebook website. >> the engineer that developed that feature lost his sight and he said, you know, it's such a

visual experience using facebook that we felt like we were out of the conversation and now we're not. pretty cool. >> it is amazing. demand for the new tesla 3 grows and grows and grows and the latest numbers show a quarter milian people have put down a deposit. >> now the other side of the equation. how do you build and build and build all those cars? scott mcgrew, you wondered if tesla could meet all the demand. >> the problem is tesla doesn't make a lot of cars and we got a reminder wednesday when tesla said it fell short of production with its cars and, remember, that's with two different model lines, not three. now tesla will have to deal with three model lines. elan musk also claimed for adding too much technology to the model 1. to remind you, it is a rational

points and the nasdaq losing 22. so, we're trading up this morning. 4891 is the level. back to you. >> sam and kris, a device you probably never heard of and no longer works. a device called revolve and it worked with home automation and lets you turn lights on on a schedule or check your phone to make sure your garage door is closed. google nest got but recent announced it is shutting it down. the devices will no longer work and bring this up because this could be our future. if you have a computerized thermostat or toaster or whatever and that company that sold it to you decides not to run the computers any more, you won't be able to turn on your furnace or make toast. those are examples. but it is sort of the risk of our computerized future as we have all these devices that depend on some server out somewhere. the waffle iron that won't talk to the computer any more. no more waffles.

warmest temperatures of the week. into the next couple of days and then after that, we'll have some much cooler air moving in on friday into the weekend. where high temperatures will drop back into the 60s and we'll have scattered showers and that we will need after having highs in the 90s in los gatos. look at how much it drops off between wednesday and thursday and continues to go down from there on friday. you don't know how to plan for this kind of weather. thursday as we take the show on the road, we get ready for a game that will be very nice. more clouds and little bit more muggy, once again, as those temperatures start to come down and a look at the weekend forecast as make plans to get outside. maybe not so much because it will be cool, windy and we'll have some scattered rain off and on and the snow will get going in the sierra maybe on sunday into next week. let's check in now with mike to get a look at the golden gate bridge. >> a beautiful clear look at the golden gate. no problem for fog this morning

san ateo hardly the only city grappling with soaring rebt. today council members will a proposal for a housing state of emergency. among other things, establish a 90-day moratorium on no cause eviction. a major test in the race for nomination for both sides of the aisle. voters in wisconsin heading to the polls and candidates pulling out all the stops to get the last-minute votes. "today in the bay edward lawrence is live in washington with the impact this primary could have on the campaign and we say that every time because it is that kind of race, edward. >> it is that kind of race. wisconsin seems to be a pivotal moment and all eyes are on wisconsin. now, this not make or break for the republican and democratic frontrunners. but wisconsin could be a turning of the tide of momentum. now, if both donald trump and hillary clinton are on the defensive there, a loss in wisconsin for trump could further divide support leading

to contested convention. at events in the badger state the republican frontrunner lashed out at governor john caisson for staying in the race. senator ted cruz seems frustrated that the ohio governor is taking valuable votes and delegates. he's glad both of his competitors are upset. kasich moved on from wisconsin and campaigning in new york now. that primary two weeks away. while cruz and trump in wisconsin today for the democrats a loss by hillary clinton in wisconsin gives senator bernie sanders a boost that he needs. sanders campaign is in wisconsin going full force as hillary clinton has moved on to new york there. she is targeting the republicans there, not talking about bernie santde sanders but going after the republicans on her message. bernie sanders in wisconsin holds an eight-point lead over hillary clinton as the voters go to the polls. reporting live in, edward lawrence, now back to you. >> all right, thank you. >> thanks, coming up. forced to pack up and leave.

let's get right to your weather. oakland is the hot spot tonight. >> yeah, a lot going on from basketball to baseball and we will have warmer weather today, no matter what you plan to do. so, we are looking at a cool start. heater's on this morning. air conditioner this afternoon. it's 44 degrees in napa and in palo alto and livermore. 73 in san mateo and mission district 76 degrees and 86 in fairfield and antioch 89 degrees and pleasanton 87. more of this warm weather tomorrow. in fact, even warmer with record highs and most likely set all across the bay area. more on that coming up in a few minutes but let's head over to mike giving us an idea of what is happening on those roads. >> one great idea that we have, the bay bridge probably getting crowded and, yes, it is. the metering lights turn on this time almost every day. especially tuesday where we can expect a bigger volume of traffic. no real problems aside from the

but is this good for business. this move would bump up pay from the state mandated 55% to 100% for six weeks. that 55% right now comes out of a worker-funded state insurance program. san francisco's proposal would require companies with at least 20 employees to pay for the other 45%. now, supervisors scott wiener is leading this effort and he says nationally only half of first-time mothers take leave and he wants to encourage new parents to take that time off. opponents, mainly small business leaders say this is the latest on a long list of san francisco requirements like paid sick leave and health coverage that unfairly target mom and pop shops. now, here's where business groups stand on the issue. the business-sponsored bay area council which includes google and facebook supports the proposal. san francisco small business commission opposes the chamber of commerce meantime is neutral. both saying the state and/or federal government should take on this issue. better handled by them. on that note, a california bill

awaiting the governor's signature that would boost paid leave to 70%, again, for california. locally, though, he is holding a rally and that does come before the supervisor's vote before the usual 2:00 meeting. >> thank you very much, stuch. also in san francisco the planning commission will determine the fate of a planned concert venue that could entertain thousands. the commission will vote. turn it into a concert venue that will hold 4,000 people. neighbors worry, though, that this site could lead to excessive noise and rowdiness. well, the coyote spotted at a san francisco elementary school has both parents and students on edge this morning. the animal was seen roaming on the playground at commodore school before classes began yesterday. no one was hurt. a warning sign is posted that school and the principal is

trying to educate the students about what to do if this happens, again. >> my girls here and i have a little girl at preschool nearby. so, i think kind of scared. >> step back and go inside your house or inside somewhere and call an adult. >> always a good idea. the education begin. there it is walking in the middle of the street. a neighbor took that picture on sunday morning. animal care and control says that coyote activity is on the rise in general. a coyote killed a dog in balboa terrace. a disturbing animal abuse case in berkeley. a $5,000 reward is being offered to find the person responsible. pita says a groundskeeper found three raccoons, a cat and a possum dead or clinging to life last week. investigation revealed four of the animals were shot with some

sort of pellet gun. well, 5:34 right now on your tuesday. loud noises from a construction job, apparently through a palo alto man into a fit of rage. ly ramsey is accused of shooting at construction workers with a pellet gun and threatening them with a knife. this happened on friday right near el camino real. nobody was injured. since december someone in san leandro has been shutting out windows of dozens of cars and also similar activity. police are investigating to see if those cases might be related. we also learned overnight that this high-risk sex offender is now in ronard park. jonathan hopner is now in their city. hopner was released on parole after serving jailtime for molestation and sexual battery of young girls. police warn that there is a high chance that he could strike again. petaluma police say that last week they planned to release hopner at a hotel in petaluma but the hotel would not accept him.

no word on exactly where he is staying. another homeless encampment cleared out in san jose and people living near interstate 101 are the latest group forced to pack up and move out. many moved to this location after they were kicked out of the nation's largest homeless encampment known as the jungle back in 2014. >> i wasn't, it was just some tarp that was put up because i didn't have a tent. couldn't afford it. >> i think it's a disgrace. we are in the richest city in the richest valley in the richest country in the world at the richest time in our history and if this is the best they can do for homeless people, then we have a serious problem. >> sandy perry says that san jose and big business need to do more. considering a more affordable housing for the homeless. san jose is the latest city to take on massage parlors.

san jose police want tighter restrictions on the nearly 300 parlors operating within city limits. san jose city council members have already approved an ordinance that would restrict where those businesses can operate. well, february was a tough month it turns out when it comes to saving water in california. we missed our mark by a lot. >> instead of the mandatory 25%. californians say just 12% back in february. the state is now in the fifth year of drought. a winter rain and snow was near average in northern california. but el nino was not so kind to southern california. it got a lot less and reservoirs there are still very low. >> maybe we will not be lifting those restrictions after all. we'll have to see. this sea lion stopped traffic yesterday in the north bay. he seems so calm there. well, this was the scene a little bit after 10:00 in the morning near highway 37 in napa. vets say that that same sea lion has been found several times

some stanford students are asking for a new survey about sexual assaults on campus. the university just completed a survey, but the students say that it's not good enough. >> 9,000 students took part in that survey back in october. the results less than % said they were sexually assaulted. but now critics are saying that that survey was flawed. >> the student body and the way in which the survey was sent out. i think if it was more clear that it was like a completely

anonymous survey. >> he needed a good job of getting concrete examples rather instead of using terms. >> stanford says october's survey said nearly 60% of students participated. an update now, cal's basketball season is over, but the scandal lives on. a former coach yann hufnagel is striking back. his attorney says that those texts prove that the pair were mutually flirting. >> he did nothing wrong. he was flirting with somebody who was flirting with him. there was no physical contact of any nature. >> the sports reporter claims that the coach sent her sexually harassing texts and even inviting her to his apartment. this morning the university says it is reviewing that

information. the uc system under fire for increasing the number of out of state students, but we have some encouraging numbers to report this morning. admissions offers to california students are up 15% this year. and the numbers are particularly good for latino students and affcon american students. offer letters went out to nearly 23,000 latinochise is up from 16,000 last year. offer letters to african-american students jumped to more than 3,000. last year around 2,300 african-amican students were offered spots. well, extending an olive branch. today senate republicans will meet up with supreme court justice nominee garland. so far no word on what exactly is going to be discussed at those meetings, but garland is expected to sit down with several gop senators. garland is said to be well regarded by leading members of both parties, but nothing but delays and backlash since his nomination. senate lawmakers are demanding answers about a recent data breach. thieves recently struck a

the record high in san rafael is 87 degrees. set back in 1957. but the forecast today bricks it right below that. so, many spots near record or maybe even tieing the record like we're expecting in oakland today. livermore may set a new record and san jose, also, very close today. as high pressure continues to build, today will not be the peak of the heat, but tomorrow as high pressure is centered right on top of us and actually moving just off to the east. and giving us an off shore flow and then we'll have temperatures much cooler on friday into the weekend. some scattered showers as this area of low pressure rolls in quickly. so, taking a look at those numbers. on the chart, we can see just how much we go up and then back down. 86 degrees for tomorrow. and then 70 degrees on thursday. of course, that's a home opener for the giants game. and then 62 degrees on saturday. so, we'll be right at about

well, we are following an amber alert out of los angeles this morning. that's where police say a mother and son may have been kidnapped by the child's father. here's a picture of that father, luis avalos with his son, 1-year-old aden. the mother here in this other picture, police say the mother and son were taken at some point yesterday. the suspect is believed to be driving a 2006 chevy impala and he is considered armed and dangerous. if you see that vehicle, call 911. kris, faa investigators are on their way to a remote area of tennessee where a tourist helicopter crashed yesterday killing all five people onboard. you can see the smoke rising from the wooded area. witnesses who saw that crash say neighbors tried to help out the victims, but it was too late. no word yet on what caused the crash. a volunteer football coach wisconsin had a bright idea. why not make an app that helps detect concussions. researchers at the medical college of wisconsin came up
