"today in the bay" starts right now. a good friday morning. thank you for joining us. i'm sam brock. >> the weekend is almost upon us. let's check the forecast right now with kari. good morning. >> good morning. some cool temperatures today and, yes, we are getting ready for some rain. be sure to grab the umbrella. before you head out the door cloudy skies and mild temperatures starting out in the upper 50s to lower 60s now.

today's forecast we'll see a high up to 64 degrees in san francisco. 70 in the south bay and the north bay up to 66 degrees. a look at that radar as the rain closes in the south bay. i'll talk more about that coming up in the next microclimate forecast. let's head over to anthony to get a look at the roadways. >> we gave mike the day off. he wasn't feeling too good. overnight construction wrapping up in san francisco and even an accident right near palo alto headed towards the dumbarton bridge. causing some slowing, but not really all that bad out there, especially looking at the camera. i did see that things are moving nice and smoothly, guys. back over to you. let's go to another bridge. demolition happening on the old span. separate the truss from the two towers that are supporting it. it's more than 500 feet in the air. once taken down t will be taken

to the port of oakland for scrapping. this is just the second of 19 trusses that have to come down. all of that work is going to take at least another two years. more anger after another deadly officer-involved shooting. this happened on 19th just before 10:00 yesterday morning. the public health department says a homeless outreach team was trying to get a homeless woman to the doctor when they encountered a homeless man with a knife. they called police. they fired bean bag rounds but had to use their guns when he lunged at them. witnesses say jose luis never lunged at officers. >> he put up the thing showing it was not a knife. >> what was it? >> it was like a cake spreading tool. he blocks it and only takes so much and he gets up and he starts to run. >> we have been working very, very hard to try to figure out ways to contend with folks with edged eeeweapons or other

weapons. >> protesters demanding reform in the department all hit the street last night. a series of freeway shootings have left drivers feeling very uneasy. the chp is taking extra steps to try to stop the violence. since november chp investigated 16 freeway shootings in alameda counties. 10 of them on i-80. three of those shootings are being investigated as homicides. the chp says all shootings are gang related. they're not random. in march, investigators began targeting known gang members. the chp also increased patrols along the i-80 corridor. police arrested one gang member in connection with the shooting on highway 4. the chp motorcycle officer is in the hospital this morning with serious injuries. investigators say that he was intentionally run over. it happened along i-80 in sacramento. the suspect took off ditching his truck and then stealing another truck from a construction site. he led officer os on a 50-mile

long chase that ended in fairfield where he was finally arrested. palo alto nonprofit hads been burglarized. all their gear for upcoming events was stolen. the shed that they were building was broken into over the weekend. thieves stole $1,600 worth of camping gear and supplies. takes the adults out camping three to four times a year and now that's in jeopardy. >> for them to network and for them to socialize and for many of them the only chance to go camping out do outdoor activities. >> the staff will rely on community support to make it happen. happening today back in the bay area president obama arriving in san francisco this afternoon. here's some video of the president landing at lax last night for another fund-raiser and here he has fund-raisers and several meetings. that means you can expect delays as his motorcade makes its way around the city. the president will return to d.c. tomorrow.

cloudy skies will greet the president today but always nice in the bay area. >> he probably won't complain about this weather. a bit of a change here this morning. >> scattered, light rain at least through the morning. we may see a few thunderstorms popping this afternoon. but looking at the radar now, once again, we can see the rain closing in on san jose and it is very light with some sprinkles as you head out the door. a closer look now already moving through gilroy and morgan hill. some of the roads may start to get wet just a bit but take its time before we start to see things changing as we go through the morning commute. and looking at all the microclimates today. highs in the upper 60s to lower 70s and 65 degrees in the mission district and 70 in novato and as well as 67 in pleasa pleasanton. i'll help you make plans to get outdoors and when we could see some breaks in the rain that's coming up in less than ten minutes and let's head over to anthony for a wide look at the

4:39 right now. california's mission to slow down pollution is costing drivers every time they go to the gas pump. an analyst says california pollution hack has raised gas prices by about 11 cents per gallon. that tax is even higher for diesel. california launched its pollution restriction program four years ago, but the tax on fuel only began last year. laura covered california the

state-run health insurance exchange could be vulnerable to hackers. federal investigators discovered significant holes. that's how they described it to put personal information at risk. no evidence that hackers have actually succeeded in getting to that system yet. the report says that health exchanges in vermont and kentucky are also at risk. to bring awareness to the brian stow foundation. stow is the giants fan who nearly died after being beaten outside the stadium in 2011. she is headed to spain to take part in the walk through northern spain, which leads to st. james burial site and takes up to 50 days. duncan is calling her journey steps 4 stow. another step forward for brian stow. he is back at the stadium where

it is a spring of extremes. historic heat in the west, but millions are under weather warnings with record cold in the east and tornadoes are tearing up the south. and in the plains, dangerous winds fueling nine massive wildfires. the largest one burning out of control near freedom, oklahoma. that fire scorched more than 80 square miles with no end in sight. this morning, 8 million people

are under a red flag warning for extreme fire conditions. it almost feels like it's the apocalypse right now. >> let's hope not. it's 4:45, early on a friday morning. change coming in our department, too. >> we'll see some rain you have been tracking for a couple of days now, kari. >> good morning, sam and laura. at least we're not dealing with very hot weather we had for the middle of the week. this is going to bring about some cooler changes. we see rain moving up from the south and we'll move from south to north as we go through the day and it will take a little bit longer to get to the north bay and starts out with light sprinkles here and there. maybe just enough to get the roads wet as you head out the door and a reminder to grab the umbrella. it's 57 degrees now in livermore, oakland, napa and santa rosa and 60 degrees in san francisco and san jose. the seven-day forecast at the bottom of the screen shows that our temperatures will be holding steady over the next few days. and as we go into today in san jose, not much of a rise in

those temperatures. as we start out in 70 degrees into the lower 60s by 10:00. rain off and on and we may see heavier downpours this afternoon and the possibility of a couple pockets of some storms here and there. if you're heading to the giants game again today, it will be very nice, but you want to have some rain gear. we will have clouds and rain at times and winds out of the west, southwest at 10 to 0 miles per hour and will be broadcast right here on nbc bay area at 7:00. and look at the futurecast. we will, once again, see heavier rain today and mainly moving across the east bay and also stretch into the peninsula, as well. mostly staying south of san francisco and as we go into early tomorrow, we will still have those showers here and there and even into the afternoon a chance of some rain and it won't be raining the entire time and there will be breaks in between and sunday is looking drier and that may be the day to get outside if you're

looking for a day to make some outdoor plans. rainfall totals look to be about 0.25 and maybe more for napa and santa rosa, but staying less than half of an inch and the temperature trend keeps us right at about average and even slightly below for the end of the weekend into the start of next week. the average high in san francisco, 62 degrees but we will see highs in the lower 60s to start out next week. a look at the weekend forecast. once again, scattered rain today, tomorrow and thenned sunday cloudy skies and highs in the mid-60s. let's head over to anthony now for a look at the roadways. >> you were talking about rain and we have showers showing up on our traffic computer. you can see that denoted by the green blobs there. that shows that our traffic computer is actually picking up on wet roads now through morgan hill. gilroy and near evergreen and down near blossom hill. otherwise, not seeing any accidents out there. that's great news. even across the east bay looking

losing 72 points or trading 4848 this morning. security concerns also to update you on. adobe systems issued an emergency update to its widely used flash software for web browsers. researchers apparently have discovered a security flaw that's being used to deliver so-called ransom wear to window pcs. encrypts data and demands payments that often range from $200 to $600 to unlock each of these infected pcs. soon be a little less expensive to mail that letter in the future. the price of the sta is going down this weekend. a temporary rate increase granted to the u.s. postal service in 2014 expires on sunday. so, now, a regular stamp will cost you 47 cents which is down from 49 cents. international letters they go down 5 cents and paying 1.15 sdl and a postcard will be a penny cheaper at only 34 cents. sam and laura, when will i get

republican campaigns. >> thank you so much. >> i will take bernie sanders over donald trump or ted cruz any time. >> wyoming is holding their caucuses tomorrow, but both democrats have their sights on new york, that state's primary coming up later this month. and new developments out of donald trump's camp. instead of heading to california as he planned to do today, the presidential republican candidate is hunkering down in new york. >> he's reportedly tweaking his campaign machine for a battle over delegates. behind the scenes he has a new manager in charge of convention strategy. the campaign is lowering expectations on how many delegates he can win. trump insiders describe his campaign as disorganized and late to the game in some states like colorado. he canceled a quick stop in that state, which elects more delegates today. >> which is an indication to me that they believe that they are either in trouble in new york or they want to make certain that he wins this home state. >> in the meantime, ted cruz is

a bear cub is on the mend after firefighters rescued him from a florida brush fire. that poor guy. lake county firefighters nicknamed him smoky junior. the cub was pulled to safety from a 228-acre brush fire that got right near homes yesterday. firefighters say there was no sign of smoky junior's mom. happening today, the city of brotherly love holding a victory party. >> technically, villanova is outside philadelphia city limits, but that's not stopping the city from shutting down the center of town to celebrate monday's ncaa championship. villanova has canceled classes today. so students can attend the parade and that party. an epic meltdown for one of golf's greats. >> i guess he felt the pressure. this one for the record books. a lot of us can relate to this if you hit the, six putts before
