and for the east bay and the south bay. but the north bay, a slight chance of a spotty shower popping up. as we head into sunday's forecast, clouds in the morning, and by the afternoon, a sunnier day coming our way. looking really good. a lot of you are probably wondering how are we doing so far this year with our rainfall? we're in an el nino phase. el nino is beginning to weaken. we have decent totals. san francisco, 102. liver more, 106% of average. and san jose, 104. our rainfall, that's added up, certainly doesn't rank near what we had in the '97-'98 el nino. we finish out the rainfall season with near-average rain. that's the good news. as we take you into our microclimate forecast for saturday, temperatures warming up, five to eight degrees.

important recall to tell you about. more than 1 million cars and suvs. dodge chargers, chrysler 300s and jeep grand cherokees. the drivers are having difficultly figuring out if the cars are in park. the problem has caused 40 injuries. car dealers are notifying owners about the recall. a crisis for california roads. today, the state transportation commission announced it needs to cut $1.5 billion from its budget. the agency says, a drop in gas tax revenue is to blame. for now, the collision plans projects, including road repyre pairs. they hope the announcement will motivate lawmakers. a congresswoman says she wants to make it easier to prosecute anyone for pipeline explosions. she unveiled new relationship.

p.i.p.e. prosecuting irresponsible pipeline explosions. if approved, it would hold pipeline operators, like pg&e, for destructive and deadly accidents like what happened in san bruno. currently, operators can be criminally prosecuted if prosecutors can prove they willingly and knowingly caused the blast. >> we have an obligation to make sure that we demand that gas operators, here and across this country, play by the rules. under current law, no one has been sent to jail for pipeline explosions. dozens of people homeless after a fire ripped through an apartment building. our nbc chopper captured the aftermath. this is san jose street. not far from the b.a.r.t.

station there. investigators say it doesn't appear suspicious at this point. and luckily, no one was hurt. a terrifying ordeal for a mother and her baby in san francisco. police told "the chronicle," a man robbed them in the family's garage. it happened in the western edition. a man pulled out a gun and shoved it into her side. the mom complied and the thief took off. the family was not hurt. police say this man you see here, broke into a home in san mateo. the owner of the home confronted the man. after hearing noise and the burglar alarm. this is on eaton road. and police are trying to figure out if the three of the robberies are connected. a new low point for the san jose police department.
