home. she left her home to walk her dog. never to return home. the dog was found tied to a tree seven miles from her home. she turned up this afternoon at a gas station in fairfield. she was with "another individual" police say, but no crime was committed. >> a solar plane dazzled san franciscans a few hours ago. check out this video as a solar plane soared over the bay. a lot of people snapping photos of a truly unique sight. our reporter is live where the plane is due to touch down tonight. >> the solar impulse is expected to land on the tarmac some

the death of prince. late icon's inner circle gathered at his estate earlier today. sheila e., a musician once engaged to prince was one of the attendees. publicists have confirmed that his remains have been cremated. the results of the autopsy could take weeks. prince died on thursday after being found in an elevator at paisley park. he was 57. prince fans paying respects today got a special surprise. prince's fans and friends gave out purple boxes with memorabilia inside. celebrating the life of prince here in the bay area, head to nbc bay area.com and click on the books at the top left of the screen. >> bay area dog lovers united today to protest new dog walking restrictions. thousands of people and their

pets gathered. they're upset about new rules that would affect dog walkers. dogs would only be allowed off leash at five locations. the main point of contention is on-leash walking would be limited to a small area. protesters say it's not fair to the people and their pets that are being forced out. >> people have been enjoying walking here at east beach and other areas for 50, 60 years, really have never been any serious problems. but the park service wants to designate it as a no-dog area and we strongly disagree. >> public comments on the new dog rules are being accepted until may 25. >> back on the court. it's looking more likely that mvp step step will play -- stephen curry will play

plant there. ==peggy/boxes== back to the breaking news story out of gill roy. a giant fire -- you might not be able to see the fire but maybe you saw the smoke. >> nbc bay area's christy smith is live there. what's the situation? >> i just arrived on the scene and had a chance to speak with firefighters. what they're saying is that this three alarm fire is now under control but they will be here for quite some time, keeping an eye on things. at the height, it was a dramatic plume of smoke near highway 101 in gill row. i'm -- gill roy. it's a recycling plant that firefighters say recycles things like plastic parts from

computers. i am told that the business was not open at the time. they tell me that the fire quickly grew to three alarms. official concerns was that there may be hazardous chemicals involved. some people were advised to shelter in place. but i'm told that that concern turned out actually not to be the case so that shelter in place should be leftied fairly soon. several agencies, fire departments from the area responded to help out with this because it did grow so quickly. no injuries to report, though. at this point the cause is still under investigation, but they're saying again it is under control. christy smith, nbc bay area news. >> an elderly bottom in burlingame has been saved from a housing crisis thanks to a motivational speaker. she's been at the center of a

housing dispute. she was told she had to leave by the end of april. multi-millionaire and self-improvement guru tony robbins agreed to pay the rent at a senior citizens home for the next ten years. he saved nuns from a rent hike and later found them a new building to operate in. nice work. >> city leaders met with a mobile home community today. hundreds of people living in the plaza delray mobile home park were forced to make a tough decision. the 130e7 for the property owner said the increase was to pay for upgrades and property maintenance. many tenants say they simply can't afford it. today about a hundred of the residents met with the mayor to discuss their concerns.

they were told the city council will hear the case. >> a former inmate should not slb punished for going on a hunger strike. that's the ruling from the first district court of appeals. he was protesting solitary confinement should not been cited for a serious violation of prison rules. the ruling is meant to serve as a precedent for future cases and ensure who inmates don't have their sentences lengthened. >> eight in ten californians are living and breathing in potentially dangerous pollution. the american lung association's air quality report came out this week and the results were pretty shocking. some of the worst air in the country is right here in california. here's a look at how the pollution is impacting our lives. >> this is the view from

almeda county received a d. >> rob our meteorologist is here to talk about wind, sunshine and is there anymore rain in the forecast? >> we would like to see more rain. more semipermanent ridges of high pressure can't act -- which can act like a lid on the bay area. it helps to enhance smoggy days around the bay area. some places in central and southern california. 58 degrees, partly cloudy skies. oakland 60 and san francisco mostly cloudy skies, 60 degrees. the winds, 18 to 26 miles per hour. that will be the big story tomorrow. bay area wide will see gusty winds increasing. a chance of seeing a few showers overnight tonight. the main impact will be over the sierra. we could see a few scattered

showers especially into the north day tomorrow. the wind will be cranking up, up to about 40 miles per hour along the coast in the higher hills. that's going to make for a blustery weekends. low 60s close to san francisco. penls la temperatures. around santa rosa, they're catching out for a few isolated showers. temperatures in the upper 60s to low 70s. for the next few days we've got this system to watch. a better chance for rain as you see on the seven-day forecast approaching wednesday. first, the storm coming in later tonight will bring clouds, a channels of seeing a few showers and gusty wind. notice the location of the area of low pressure. if you're heading to the sierra, you may not see snow to start but as you come back monday morning, colder air and snow.

36-hour totals south of highway 50 could be closing in on almost 10 inches of snow there at about 6,000 feet. bay area, not much in the way of showers. temperatures holding steady for the next three days but wednesday we begin to see changes, much like we saw yesterday. a system may bring a slight chance of thunder during the day wednesday and skies should begin to clear headed into thursday. the long-range forecast for wednesday, up to about a quarter inch of rain up towards the north bay. after that system passes by, you see the five-day outlook for san jose. that might be our best chance for seeing rain in san jose. next weekend looks warmer, mid top upper 70s. the sierra could continue to see late-season snow maybe even into friday of next week.

plant put up a massive plume of smoke for vr visible for miles. >> christy smith is at the scene with the latest information. >> firefighters tell us they originally thought there was serious hazardous chemicals inside the burning building but they got closer and determined that the chemicals they thought were there were actually not. what they did as a precaution was go ahead and order a shelter in place for areas close to where this was burning. sort of as a precaution. a reverse 911 call went out and i'm told that that should be soon lifted. the fire was dramatic at the height. it jumped to three alarms and sent a huge plume of smoke into the area. firefighters say this is a recycling plant, netex. they recycle things like plastic from computers. i'm told the business was not

open at the time. about 60 firefighters responded from six different neighboring agencies because of the growth of this and to stop it from spreading. at this point i'm told that it is under control, but firefighters will be here all night just as a precaution to ensure that it is out. no injuries to report. at this point, the cause is still under investigation. reporting live in gilroy, christy smith, nbc bay area news. >> police say they've arrested a 14-year-old boy who led police on a high speed chase this morning. police tried to pull the driver over and he sped off. police managed to catch up with the two maengs but the driver ran away and was later arrested. >> happening now, a solar plane

is on its way to the south bay. pit flew over the golden gate brink. now it's headed to moffat field. we have more details. we hoped it would land while it was still light out. >> wouldn't that be nice? we have learned that the flight could land here at moffat field as early at 11:00 if the winds cooperate. the pilot has been in the sky for more than 62 hours. powered only by the sun, the solar impulse soared over the golden gate bridge. the pilot said he sleeps, does yoga and cooks hot meals while he sleeps. it weighs just 5100 pound and is powered by 17,000 solar cells,

not a drop of gas. an entrepreneur and pilot worked on the plane to demonstrate the power of clean technology. many people in the bay area are hoping to see the plane tonight. >> i think it's incredible. this is in our own backyard. people should definitely be checking it out. again, it's part of history. >> originally the flight from hawaii was expected to take four days. because of strong tail winds, it only took about two and a half days. the pilot has to wear an oxygen mask because the plane is not pressurized. after the plain lands, it will stay a few days and take off again for phoenix, arizona, on tuesday with the ultimate goal of finally making it to new york city with a plan to fly over the statue of liberty.

just in to the newsroom, sheriff's deputies rescued the victim of a kidnapping today. happened about 2:30 this afternoon in north richmond. the driver of a prius took off. a woman franticly waved her arms out the window. police later learned she had been expected. the suspect is in custody. >> planes drop humvees attached to parachutes. one cuts loose, crashes to the ground. two other humvees came crashing

to 21%. however, the coverage of the drought, 97% to 90. the issue here, central and southern california didn't get as much rain as we saw over the winter and spring. but good news for the sierra and northern california. a better chancel coming next wednesday of next week. breezy outside. you see the winds around this time tomorrow probably 20 to 30 miles per hour. a lot of wind courtesy of the system right now that is tossing clouds our way. we think it will drop down right on top to have sierra. forecast north bay and hill tops there, isolated showers tomorrow. everybody experiencing gusty winds from about 15 to 35 miles an hour which may make the temperatures feel cooler than what the temperature is frying to tell you.

60 degrees out around ocean beach. 60s across the peninsula. there's your chance of showers around santa rosa tomorrow. upper 60s to low 70s out towards the trivalley. there's that wednesday system, but we'll start with the weekend forecast. this is the reason why the winds will pick up. strong area of low pressure dropping into our east. if you're heading to the sierra, may not start off with 12340e tomorrow but by sunday and monday we are expecting off and on snowshowers through the week. snow projection is into sunday and monday morning, we could see maybe up to ten inches of snow around highway 50. we're going to see temperatures holding steady. our next chance of rain comes in for wednesday, this system moving west to east across the bay area like the storm we saw
