the investigation will continue for highway one south of devil's slide. someone was ejected from this vehicle here. that is a crash investigation for highway 1. let me show you where that is on the map. take a wide look so everybody gets a chance to check their commute. this closure is right here between pacifica and montara. you have to take 280 and south of pacifica. you have to get over towards 92. that is in place right now. looking at hopefully another half hour to dak care of that. all lanes are reopened. there was a truck fire, no one was hurt as a result of that. that's good news. >> we will continue to see these

temperatures very cool to start out the day then warming up nicely for the afternoon. now in the low 40s as you get a look at that north bay temperature. highs today reaching 72 in the north bay. san francisco 64. we are getting ready for our next chance of rain. i'll detail coming up. 6:02. bay area babysitter under arrest. accused of shaking and hitting a 10-month-old baby. the alleged crime reportedly captured on a nanny camera. >> kris sanchez joining us from the newsroom. that babysitter expected to face a judge later today. good morning. >> good morning to you both. she is expected to face a judge after those parents had a gut feeling and followed that gut feeling, installed a nanny cam in their home. what they saw had them calling 911. the danville police responded to this home in antioch around 2:30 friday

afternoon after the parents allegedly watched the 23-year-old strike and shake the 10-month-old baby. danville police arrested her on charges of child abuse. >> she was transported to the martinez jail. the baby was taken to the hospital as a precaution. neighbors told us she had been babysitting for that family for the last few months. >> i thought that's always scarey. you're leaving the child at hand of somebody hoping they are trustworthy. >> thank god they took the measures and had a nanny cam in place. and they were able to find out what was happening because of that. >> a 23-year-old michaela riry is due in court to face child abuse charges. we don't know if they hired her through care.com, but i found her there. in this video she describes herself as a business student with nine years of experience working with children ranging

from 3-month-old to 13 years of age and is a former summer school teacher and camp counselor. someone checked into that account this morning. police have video captured by the nanny camera, but they will not be releasing it at this point. kris sanchez, today in the bay. suspects arrested in a sex trafficking bust expected in court today. james joseph jr p.m. are expected to be arraigned today. investigators say that pair ran a sex trafficking ring centered in san ramon and danville. they were arrested last august with a third suspect anthony reynolds. several young women were allege lid victimized. a developing story at 6:04. the search is on for this man, 19-year-old christian cruz tied to a deadly shooting in san francisco. police call him a person of interest. a fight broke out at orange memorial park yesterday

afternoon. two men were shot. one died at the hospital. the other is recovering. christian cruz is considered armed and dangerous. a bay area connection to a gruesome discovery of a woman's body found in a car right by colorado storage unit. investigators say that the woman was killed by james wo of san francisco. wu left her body in her car at the storage unit. he was arrested in seattle friday and trying to fly out of the country. >> he was an hour from departing the state for hong kong. we were over to get homeland security, provide them with the information and they made the apprehension on the aircraft. >> colorado investigators are asking people in san francisco who know the suspect to contact them. identifying human remains is proving to be difficult. the coroner's office has not beenable to identify the person's sex or age.

skull and bone were found last weekend in a drainage ditch. investigators do not believe it belongs to a native american. later today, a couple of san francisco leaders are going to call for better protections for tenants hit hard by fires. they say they are new fire safety legislation protects fire victims. they are introducing that bill at noon in front of this building in the mission which caught fire the third time last night in about a year. a person died in that first fire. a second blaze broke out in march. all fires are still under investigation. no tear, just a sprain. that is good news for steph curry. the bad news, he will be out for the next two weeks. an mri revealed curry suffered an mcl sprain. curry slipped in a wet spot on the court. physical therapists believe time

more politics. decision 2016 and new poll numbers just released. in the last couple of hours, shows support for donald trump is at 50% nationally. that marks a first. >> on the other side of the aisle, hillary clinton holding a ten-point lead over bernie sanders. new numbers as voter in five states are heading to the polls. tracie potts live in washington, d.c. >> it shows why these primaries today are just so important to the front runners, especially beginning to solidify their leads. the democrats for example, they've got 462 delegates at stake in these five states today. could be a big day for hillary clinton. hillary clinton celebrating spring. >> this makes us all feel like there will be a new beginning, doesn't it? >> in pennsylvania at the very spot where she hopes to accept

the democratic nomination this summer, polls predict a clean sweep in today's five east coast primaries, including pennsylvania. >> let us see in pennsylvania the highest voter turnout in the history of the states. >> bernie sanders faces more questions about how long his campaign may last. he rallies in west virginia today. donald trump has a double-digit lead in today's pennsylvania primary, and nationally. despite the two other republicans agreeing to split up their chances against him in three upcoming states. >> nothing more than an effort to target the resources because we are going to head to an open convention. >> two tremendously failed candidates last week, they are going to pick somebody like that? give me a break. not going to happen. >> ted cruz is going after kasich supporters in indiana. >> if you don't want to see donald trump as the nominee, if you don't want to see hillary clinton as the next president, i

people's personal information is at risk. symantec says more than half of the 1200 android apps related to the presidential primary are exposed to hackers, especially the ones for ted cruz and john kasich. this happens when you download apps from unsecured wi-fi connections. california voters last night got a chance to weigh all five candidates vying to replace u.s. senator barbara boxer. the debate aired here on the nbc bay area. two democrats and three republicans clashed. on the democrat side attorney general harris and orange county representative loretta sanchez laid out their policies. >> we are going to improve the economy, we have to look at what we need to do to increase minimum wage we need national commitment to affordable childcare. >> i said no to the iraq war. i said no to the so-called patriot act and no to the wall

street bailout. >> on the republican side, the three republican candidates addressed issues ranging from immigration to reforming drug laws. >> how unsuccessful they've been and what would be a much better approach to solving that problem which is vastly more significant in american crime than guns one way or the other. >> we spend over $2 trillion a year reacting and paying for regulations. we need to use sensors, drones and big data to take control of our border. >> all three gop candidates reside in the bay area one more debate scheduled ahead of the june primary. california's top two primary rules mean the top two finishers regardless of party will advance to the general election in november. that means two democrats or two republicans could be on that november ballot. back to presidential politics now. ted cruz can't win the nomination outright but his campaign still might be floating a trial balloon this morning

hinting at who he would pick as running mate if he were to win the nomination. >> cruz and carly fiorina have been talking. >> they are far in their politics. fiorina was quick to endorse cruz. fiorina the former ceo of hewlett-packard. her staffers tell our sister blog a cruz campaign is vetting fiorina for a vice presidential spot. she will speak saturday at the state gop convention along with cruz. presidential candidates don't normally name vice presidential running mates until after they themselves are nominated. but this is a very unusual campaign year. brand-new at 6:00 this morning, amazon will start delivering food like other services like door dash and uber eat. delivering in san francisco will be free for prime users. no mark-ups. whatever you pay at the restaurant, you will pay on

amazon. this means amazon is losing money on every single delivery, which the company can afford to do. it appears to be a way to convince people to become a prime user in the same way they offer free videos to prime users. this could be devastating to companies that cannot afford to lose money on every delivery. the ceo of door dash will respond later this week on my sunday morning show press here. >> the whole point of karma is what goes around comes around, right? in this case it's true even when karma is an electric car. you may remember the fisker karma back in 2011. the company went bankrupt. this morning we learned the company is going to reintroduce karma and build it in california and call it the rivero. there is obviously an appetite for expensive electric cars.

we'll reach into the upper 50s to low 60s today. scattered showers in the forecast tomorrow. we are watching this cluster of clouds just off to the west of us. as that moves in late tonight, the showers will follow during the morning commute. once it rolls off to the east, we'll have mild and breezy conditions for thursday into friday. a quick warm-up this weekend between saturday and sunday. we'll have highs reaching into the mid 80s. get ready for that. we've been talking about a warm-up. it comes this weekend. scattered showers tomorrow off and on through at least the morning and early afternoon. it tapers off by the evening. by thursday our temperatures already start to feel milder reaching into the low 70s for the peninsula.

it continues to warm up from there. the inland area may reach close to 90 degrees by sunday in the north bay and the south bay. let's head over to mike with an update on the morning commute. >> overall look at the upper east. everything here, tuesday looks great. we have that build coming out of the walnut creek interchange. bay bridge meter lights are on. south bay starts with the north bound build. i'm going to focus on this on the coast. 3:30 is when the crash happened. you have to take 92 over to 2800. san mateo bridge. no problems, a little haze in the air.

forecasters say the storms may form too quickly to give people much warning. some schools are considering canceling classes. peninsula leaders dealing with noise from airport are looking for possible solutions today. last month they debate the future of san carlos airport. neighbors say the buzz from small planes is becoming too much. others say the problem is overexaggerated. today supervisors will hear recommendations being considered. they plan to take action in june. light up somewhere else. tobacco could be banned in california colleges across the state. right now california assembly just passed a proposal to ban tobacco use on csu and community college campuses. that proposal is headed now to the state senate for approval. the bill would prohibit chewing, dipping, smoking or vaping. it would allow school leaders and police to issue $100 fines to anyone who violates that ban. 6:26.

>> i'm sam brock. chilling out on a tuesday morning, literally because it is cold again. temperatures still in the 40s to start out in some places. >> now you saw that temperature get down to 39 degrees. feels more like winter rather than spring. this weekend it will feel like summer. here we are on its roller coaster. 47 in san francisco. beautiful sunrise. north bay 42 and highs today reaching the low 70s. a nice warm-up after a cool start. the south bay 70. a storm system approaching tomorrow, brings us another chance of rain. i'll detail that in a few minutes. back to that crash investigation on highway 1 with mike. >> this crash happened at 3:30 in the morning. highway 1 they are just south of a double slide. you see the debris and the car crash.

of the thousands of people in san francisco who rent out their homes like airbnb, well under half are registered with the city which is required by law. to get more compliance, the city wants to put the screws on the short-term rental sites themselves. today san francisco's supervisors will introduce new legislation that would require sooi sites to verify that the property owners have registered with the city. they are making the companies responsible for ensuring its users comply with the law. if renters fail to register, it would be those sites that could face misdemeanor charges and fines of $1,000 a day for violation. >> overall, we are also not in favor of passing laws that deputize to become law enforcement agents of the city.

6:33. new details on the death of a popular high school football player. it will be at least six weeks before we know how the teenager died. friends and family are waiting for toxicology reports. the 15-year-old was found unconscious early sunday morning. >> we are not speculating in terms of the events and what happened. >> he brought light into the room and joy everywhere. it's not just a blue ribbon commission, the sheriff's office is reportedly getting more critical feedback reforming its troubled jail system. mercury news reporting the national institute of corrections yesterday released an's valuation of the county jail system. those recommendations include new education and training for

guards and also a new use of force policy. there is a new effort to beef up police and fire services in san jose. it's different from the other controversial measure b. the pension reform initiative voters approved in 2012. back in february, the station had to wait for backup to fight a fire across the street because budget cuts left the station without a water truck. >> we are now at a point where we can cut no more. opponents say local government should cut unnecessary spending rather than create new taxes. if this passes, the tax will last for 15 years.

>> the fire that caused nearly $2 million in damage at double d's. cleaning supplies, paper towels and electrical equipment likely caught fire. firefighters managed to save the ports memorabilia on the walls of the restaurant. no word on when it will reopen. recent wildfires are causing unexpected hurdles for hikers along one of california's most popular trails. the u.s. forest service says wildfires are leaving huge gaps along the trail in california. unstable trees and loose rock are causing dangerous conditions. backpackers must bypass those areas by taking shuttles or alternate hiking routes. the pacific crest trail runs from mexico to canada. summer is still two months away technically, but california's fire season is heating up. cal fire says its fire crews

responded to 100 new wildfires just in the last week. temperatures so far this year have been mild. when summer does arrive, the fear is that drought-stricken forests will create larger problems for firefighters. >> people in the south bay may get clarity on water restrictions they will face this summer. the waterboard is meeting this afternoon. members will discuss the current water supply and drought status. the board will consider a resolution to lower water use production rates through the rest of the year. some south bay reservoirs are at or near full capacity. >> as we talk about already seeing a start in the fire season even before summer is here, you hope that at least all the rain we got this winter will do a little bit to dampen that. >> we do have more rain in the forecast tomorrow. it moves in by this time tomorrow morning into the north bay. you see the cluster of clouds just offshore. one more dry day before that weather systemutj in. it's now 47 degrees, a cool start.

the implementation of the 15-dollars-per- hour minimum wage. vo 6:43. berkeley looking to speed up the implementation of the $15 an hour wanl. the proposal would require large employers to pay that new wage by 2018. employers aren't required to comply until 2022. the berkeley's new proposal won tentative approval back in november. 6:43 on your tuesday. criticism from 3,000 miles away. new radio ads approved by florida's governor are going to be aimed at poaching businesses from california. does this sound familiar? now it's governor rick scott attacking jerry brown's recently approved minimum wage hike. he contends the plan to raise minimum wage in california by 2022 will crush businesses.

the ads will run on radio stations in the bay area and los angeles. >> over a half million people are boycotting target. last week target pledged to allow transgender guests and employees to use whichever rest room correspondses with their gender identity. the group claims the policy puts women and children at risk of sexual assault. target is not backing down, adding that hundreds of target stores have family rest rooms for people more comfortable with that option. new this morning, mitsubishi says it's been falsifying mileage data of its cars more than two decades. the japanese company admits it's been using fuel economy test methods not compliant with regulators since 1991. mitsubishi lost half of its market value, nearly $4 billion since it admitted last week it

overstated the fuel economy of four models sold in japan. after a brief pick-up, san francisco house prices continue to rise. >> scott mcgrew has the latest data. >> talk about a possible cooldown. >> that's what we were concerned about. just released from case-shiller, a highly respected measure of home prices. robert schiller won a nobel prize. if san francisco house prices continue to move up 1.1% in the last month measure. overall gain from this time last year, 9.3%. we did see a hiccup last month. case-shiller defining san francisco the same way that the u.s. census does. that could be misleading. it's not just san francisco but oakland and down the east bay, as well. it does not include the peninsula. >> we are waiting for new data from twitter today as well. the san francisco company reports profit. they care more about the users. show me the user. last time twitter reported three

closer look at the east bay. 43 in castro valley. fremont 44. mostly sunny now. we'll see that sun continuing through the day. beautiful day to go out for the giants game at 7:15. 62 degrees. winds won't be as windy as yesterday, but a nice little breeze. that makes it feel cooler. we watch the approach of our next weather system. it moves from the pacific, widespread clouds ahead of that. that starts to roll in late tonight. showers arriving in time for the morning commute. mild and breezy weather and a quick warm-up by friday into the weekend. by sunday we'll have highs in the mid to upper 80s. a close look at the rain and timing. here are the clouds early in the morning. scattered showers. they will have more coverage of the rain and the possibility of thunderstorms, especially farther off to the east where there will be a little bit more energy with some of those cells

that pop-up during the early afternoon hours. then after that clears out, our temperatures will be warming up on thursday, mostly sunny skies. a look at the next three days in the peninsula. up to 70 on thursday. upper 60s for san francisco. all of this quickly moves out and by thursday, once again sunshine that continues into the weekend. friday looking at a high of 70 in san francisco. the south bay at 80 and then it makes it up to the upper 80s, almost 90 by the end of the weekend. that kind of weather continues into the first part of next week. our dry weather continues. let's head over to mike now with an update on a new crash on those roadways. >> i want to show everybody theidrive. it's not so bad. we are looking toward the dunbarton bridge. this is an abrupt change at the toll plaza. a car smashed ip to one of the dividers off to the side of your second fastrack lane.

during the hearing, senator jerry hill from san mateo went after the company that built the berkeley building. >> the firm that constructed the apartment complex had a history of questionable work and in previous years paid out $26.5 million in construction defect settlements. >> the state senate committee holding that hearing could consider reforms to the contractor state license board which is the state's construction watch dog. some law makers say the agency does not have enough authority to investigate and prosecute building contractors. on to the new plan to create a soccer complex in the heart of san jose, city leaders are moving forward with a plan to convert 44 acres of the guadeloupe river park and garden into seven soccer fields. the san jose earthquakes will team up with the city to develop the land. coming up next, a bay area woman hired to care for a baby accused of hurting the

baby. the police arrested her on charges of child abuse and again she was transported to the martinez jail. the baby was taken to san ramon regional hospital for precaution. she had been babysitting for the family the last few months. we don't know if they hired her through care.com. in this video she describes herself as a business student with nine years of experience working with children ranging in age from 3 months to 13 years. she says she is a former summer school teacher and a camp counselor. according to the care.com website, someone checked into her account some time this morning. 23-year-old michaela riry is due in court to face a judge today. kris sanchez "today in the bay." suspects arrested in a sex trafficking bust are expected in court later today k. james joseph jr and this woman

are expected to be arraigned today that. pair ran a sex trafficking ring centered in san ramon in danville. they were arrested in august with a third suspect anthony reynolds. several young women were victimized. the search is on for this man, 19-year-old christian cruz tied to a deadly shooting in south san francisco. police call him a person of interest. officers say a fight broke out in orange memorial park yesterday afternoon. two men were shot. one died at the hospital. the other is recovering. christian cruz is considered armed and dangerous. if you see him call 911. at 6:7:00, moving on to decision 2016, polls are opened in maryland, connecticut, rhode island, delaware and pennsylvania. all holding their primaries today. hillary clinton and donald trump leading in the polls in all those states and nationally. check out this new nbc news and survey monkey poll. 50% of republican voters prefer
