crash south 680 main street. look at these folks off to the left. it looks likeç there is one la not open. behind them we have flashing lights. that is a road crew and not a problem for the drivers. >> we begin with breaking news out of syria. doctors without borders said at least 27 people killed in overnight strikes. one of those strikes in the hospital in the rebel-held part of the city. 14 patients and medical staff including a pediatrician died in that bombing. there have pen several air strikes. officials estimate in total more than 60 people have been killed. we are going to continue to follow this story and bring you updates as soon as they come into our newsroom. a major break in the story

that captivated the south bay. sources telling nbc bay area there is a family connection into the killings of a husband and wife. they were found murdered inside their san jose home and a story we broke last night at 11:00. >> damion live with what we learned so far. >> good morning. we are waiting official word from police. his name does not appear in the logs of those being booked in county jail. they did arrest the eldest son of that couple in san jose. sources tell nbc bay area police arrested that son in the tracy area yesterday. that's where the police chief is a former top cop. the detectives that cleared the youngest son of any wrong doing

after the murder but were looking for the oldest son for questioning. a family member found the bodies over the weekend and called police. nbc bay area first reported they had been victims of a double homicide. they were active members of the evergreen islamic center. police said this was not a hate crime and that the couple was likely killed by someone familiar to them. there were strange writings on the wauchlt one said, "sorry, my first kill was clumsy." >> the parents in this case, the victims were in disagreement about the sexual orientation of the oldest son. more to come later os the morning develops. damian trujillo. a southside teacher arrested

for trying to get kids to send him sexually explicit photos. detectives say he posed as a woman on girl on the internet and was receiving illicit pictures from minors. he's been put on administrative leave. news spread yesterday. >> that's pretty shocking just to hear about that. i've seen that guy walk around this campus all the time and thought of him as a nice teacher, young guy. >> troubling if the allegations are true. >> the superintendent is expected to speak later today. now police say they arrested a package thief and the evidence they needed was found right on the suspect. officers started questioning javier ortega as he was walking through a neighborhood tuesday. ortega had an outstanding arrest warrant. officers searched his backpack. they found packages that did not belong to him in the backpack. b.a.r.t. police ready to add

a live look at the coliseum this morning. team owner mark davis is expected to be in las vegas to talk about moving the team. las vegas sands corporation wants to build a $1.3 billion stadium in las vegas. davis is reportedly supporting that idea. there is a third player, the nfl. insiders don't expect the league to approve a team in las vegas. warriors and their fans waking up smiling after an epic win last night. even without steph curry, the game was never close. >> they exploded out of the gate. the houston rockets could not catch up to the warriors who were on fire last night. among the people getting into the action, clayton thompson. we'll show you highlights in a second.

a petition drive. they want google to withdraw support for the republican convention if trump is the party's presidential nominee. google is one of several major tech companies promising both democratic and republican conventions. they collected hundreds of thousands of signatures. big changes this morning at facebook. it's creating a whole new category of stock. >> it won't make you wealthier but will help mark zuckerberg give away some of his. >> mike zuckerberg and his wife want to give away 99% of their facebook stock over their lifetime which presents them with a quandary. this means they can no longer vote as far as facebook's management goes. facebook's got to solve this in some way. they decided to create a new category of stock and give that to current stock holders.

it will be nonvoting. then mark zuckerberg will always be in charge. to some degree, this comes against everything we sort of tell kids about how the stock market works. you buy a share of a company then you get to say what that company does. you are literally one of the owners in that company. this won't work that way. but the truth is most people are perfectly happy having mark zuckerberg be in charge of facebook. >> now google did something very similar a couple of years ago. yahoo shares fell mildly wednesday. it would allow four activists to join its board. ceo marissa mayer said management is looking forward to working with the new directors which is similar to saying it's an honor to be nominated.

they are expected to make a full recovery. someone who not only recovered but has a new home ponch the bay bridge dog is going to a new home and family. >> that 10 pound chihuahua running loose on the bay bridge earlier this month. little dog brought traffic to a standstill during the morning commute. officers were able to eventually catch him, but no one came forward to claim him. the shelter taking care of him says they found the perfect home for the nervous dog who likes to run. he was named ponch after poncherello from the tv show "chips" from the 1970s. let's check in with o)i. >> you just have to be careful with that dog. once it breaks out in a sprint,

it's all over. that weather system moved off to the east producing rape and snow we have mostly clear skies out there this morning. 53 in oakland. 52 in san jose. 48 in concord and san francisco. a little bit of a cool start. as we go into the rest of the day, we'll break it down for san francisco. 54 at 8:00. mostly sunny skies through 11:00. it warms up to the low 60s. once again those winds will be gusting like we had yesterday. some of those gusts were really high in between those showers moving through. nothing but sun today into the mid 60s. temperatures warming up, not only today but the next couple of days. today we are looking at 70s and wind, 60s along the coast. we start to see 70s wuning over.

"linda katehi ka-tay-he" is on leave this morning. =vo= this comes amid a recent uproar over her service on different the chancellor of uc davis on leave over the recent uproar on her service at different corporate boards. you can see she is also under fire for hiring consultants to erase the pepper spray. the school is looking into the hiring of her husband, son and daughter-in-law. a lot of questions remain after an apple employee's body was found at the cupertino campus. it happened yesterday. after reporting the body was discovered inside a conference room with possibly a gun nearby. police cleared the campus a short while later. >> after further investigation, they determined that there was no other individuals involved. they believe it was an isolated

shooting deaths. >> it's a story developing overnight. damian trujillo is live with what we know. >> nothing official here but once the suspect is booked in the county jail, arraignment should be this afternoon or maybe tomorrow. sources tell nbc bay area he was arrested in the tracy area yesterday. police chief in tracy is a former chief here in san jose. police had been looking for robby for questioning since the murders. they cleared the youngest son of any wrong doing shortly after the homicide. a family member found the body of the couple over the weekend and called police. nbc bay area first reported that they had been victims of a

necklace in november during the beating. the public defender released the video. >> what is horrifying about this is that these officer not only brutally beat a man but took steps to cover it up by stealing from him and paying off witnesses. >> petrov is suing the alameda county for the beating. charges for obstructing a rape investigation. the officer was never charged, but he and former lieutenant liu are at the center of another scandal. as we reported earlier this week, that scandal involves several officers exchanging racist and homophobic text messages. a south bay teacher is behind bars accused in a disturbing krichlt he assumed a secret identity online to

connect with unsuspecting kids. today in the bay kris sanchez live at gilroy high school where the now-arrested teacher works. how did he get the kids to send those pictures? >> according to police, that keacher allegedly posed as a girl to try to get students to send pictures to him. these are young people who then thought they were in a relationship with that fictitious girl. scientist teacher david lei. after questioning lei on campus tuesday about that catfishing, he was arrested and faces two felony counts of child enticement. he was in his third year as a science teacher here at gilroy high and coached the track team. according to the gilroy unified school district his background check was clean.

six years ago. the bay area news group obtained documents tied to the case. prosecutors will call several dozen witnesses including eight current or former executives who received community. a hearing is set for tonight to hammer out a starting date for that trial. martin's beach will go to trial. an appeals court reinstated a lawsuit brought on by a group called friends of martin's beach. the beach is owned by a silicon valley entrepreneur. he bought it in 2008 and tried to close it to the public by locking a gate to the only access road and installing "no trespassing" signs. we've been covering hail all over the country, but this video is local. it's from fairfield. that areas hammered by hail yesterday. a rare scene.ç there was no serious damage reported.

surveillance.. bart police are expected to propose adding license plate readers at every station at a board meeting today.. but reportedly-- one station already has the cameras. =laura/boxes= b.a.r.t. police propose adding license meters at every station. reportedly one station had these cameras. >> bob redell live at the lafayette b.a.r.t. station with a closer look at what this program would mean for b.a.r.t. riders. >> it could mean more protection, better deterrent against someone trying to break into your car, but it brings up the question of privacy rights. what b.a.r.t. police are proposing is installing cameras at every station that can read license plates. officers could then use that data to identify possible suspects in crimes. almost all crimes that b.a.r.t. police investigate are related to property, whether it's robberies, burglaries or larson.

to roll the dies of legalizing online gambling. assembly law makers advanced the first proposal to legalize online poker in california. an assembly committee passed the bill yesterday. it has the backing of several tribal governments. right now, only three states in the u.s. allow online gambling. that would be delaware, nevada and new jersey. if you wanted to know how good of a driver you are, there's an app for that. >> it's called the ever drive app and it's free. it tracks your speed versus posted speed limits, it man fors about everything you do, especially what you do wrong. >> the phone measures how fast you accelerate, how harsh you brake, whether you're speeding and measure your phone use. if you pick up the phone while driving, you'll see it reflected in your score. >> at the end of your trip, the app gives you a rating of one to

five stars. your insurance company would love to see that. >> your parents don't want to see that. if you are taking a trip? spacex going to mars. >> in a way spacex was always going to mars. >> that's why it exists. elon musk has been fascinating by mars. they are going for real with an unmanned mission just two years from now. the idea to use spacex's dragon capsule to get there started. it seemed scientists found just the right way to get it done and started calling it red dragon. mars is a difficult planet to land on. its atmosphere means the lander has to be protected from heat. that same atmosphere is too thin to support parachutes. it is literally the worst of two red worlds. you have to use rockets. that's how we got to the moon.

the space ship that lands on mars has to be way heavier than our moon lander which was partially built with aluminum foil. you are going to need that heat shield. the falcon heavy can do it. you can see how big it is compared to the space shuttle. spacex never launched a falcon heavy. with all those road blocks, spacex says it will land an unmanned capsule soon as 2018. we are almost five months into 2016. the trip takes six months to get there. buried in this is another announcement spacex won a contest to launch a gps satellite. this is how the company makes money. it's a coup for the start-up because these launches are normally done by the big guys. in fact, spacex's biggest competitor sat out saying, you know what?

issues surrounding the lights at levi's near san jose airport. they first raised safety issues surrounding the bright lights last year after uncovering complaints by pilots who said they had been blinded by lights. now e-mails obtained by nbc bay area show the problem was worse than previously thought. that concerned city officials in santa clara which owns the stadium. >> would you like to have been better informed about this safety issue? >> certainly, you informed me with your news article i saw when i was making dinner one night. it's nice to be kept in the loop, yes. we would like to know. we want to make sure everyone is safe at all times and we'll do what we have to do. it's a publically-owned facility. we are ultimately responsibility for it. >> we investigate just how many pilots have complained about the lights and uncover e-mails showing the problem still hasn't been fixed.
