from nbc bay area this is "today in the bay." >> and at 7:00 on your saturday morning, look at that. a live look at san francisco from treasure island as the sun shines. it is another gorgeous bay area saturday morning. we appreciate your joining us. i'm kira klapper. meteorologist anthony slaughter has a look at our microclimate forecast. feels like groundhog day the last couple saturdays.

>> each and every weekend in this trend. i want to show you another shot from belvedere. it is fog free in the city this morning. it's opening weekend for sailing and boating on the bay this weekend. head over to treasure island and enjoy some free boating. how is that. 52 degrees in the north bay, 52 same for san francisco and 58 for the east bay. it's kind of mild this morning and that's going to lead to a warm day. we're talking temperatures at the coastline mid to upper 70s. 73 for san francisco, the north bay, tri-valley and south bay. it gets warmer tomorrow and then rain in the seven-day forecast. we'll go over all of that in about 15 minutes. stay tuned for the latest. >> wow. every weekend it's like summer and winter. >> and then yeah, winter sprinkled into between and back to summer. >> stay tuned for that roller coaster of a forecast. thanks. we want to tell you about two local men who are accused of brutally killing their parents

one week ago today. they appeared in court. we have one of the suspects in court yesterday. 22-year-old hasib golamrabbi. his 17-year-old brother omar was arraigned in the hallway and will be tried as an adult. both sons admit to being home during the killings but omar says the older brother hasib killed both parents. court documents claim hasib admitted to killing his father but not his mother. the district attorney's office says the father was shot more than 12 times. the mother once in the head. >> they point to mental illness or will the prosecution say that they point to some type of a staging of the crime scene portraying it more like a manson-style killing as opposed to a family killing. >> investigators are still working to determine the motive. this week police found writings on the wall and the floor at the family home presumed written by the suspect. one said "sorry my first kill was clumsy." if convicted of the double

homicide they face life in prison. both pleaded not guilty. new this morning a homicide investigation in the south bay. officers tell us a woman shot at a home on indigo oak lane not far from highway 101 in san jose. it happened shortly before 1:00 this morning. the victim was taken to a hospital where she died. police tell us they have one man in custody. now to decision 2016. a bay area visit for the republican presidential candidates. the gop convention kicked off in burlingame. john kasich took center stage and touched on issues ranging from balancing the budget to spur job growth to treating drug abuse through local programs. many local republicans say because frontrunner donald trump is po lorrizing, it may force some gop voters to stay home altogether on election day in november. kasich supporters yesterday hoped that's not the case. >> i think it's a very positive and vital force that he stays in

the race to show that there is something else aside from cruz and trump. >> ted cruz will speak at the convention this afternoon and his running mate carly fiorina will speak this evening. and take a look at this chaotic scene earlier in the day yesterday as hundreds of protesters converged on the hyatt regency in burlingame hoping to block donald trump from reaching the gop convention. trump's motorcade pulled to the side of highway 101 and he and his staff got out walked off the freeway and snuck into the hotel through a back door. >> went under a fence and through a fence. oh, boy, felt like i was crossing the border actually. >> one minor injury was reported. police made five arrest during the anti-trump demonstration. we've posted raw video of the scuffles and confrontations in burlingame. go to nbcbayarea.com and search nor trump protests. supporters of democrat bernie sanders are working hard to keep his campaign hopes alive. sanders has a small, but active

campaign headquarters on university avenue in berkeley. workers made buttons to pass out over this weekend as they go door to door looking for new sup porters. >> through the importance to understand that bernie has not gotten nearly the amount of press coverage trump has and it's almost been to a hugely unfair degree of 80 to 1 ratio. >> the vermont senator has been laying off hundreds of campaign staffers, so the berkeley headquarters is looking for volunteers. and with each passing day it's looking more and more like a trump versus clinton presidential battle based on the numbers. hillary clinton is starting to target the november election. staff is being hired in battleground states which include florida, new hampshire and colorado. just yesterday clinton attended a fund-raiser in new york. in other news now, in san francisco, the police chief is on damage control. chief greg suhr released dozens of racist and homophobic text messages sent by some of his

officers and it's a scandal that continues to grow. the messages rage from the ab surb to offensive. these are a few of dozens released yesterday. all the texts discovered as part of an unrelated investigation into rape allegations involving former police officer jason lie. dung yesterday's press conference chief suhr announced a new requirement for every officer on the force. >> out of an abundance of caution the further exclusive bias might exist in the police department effective immediately and with the help of city human resources, every member of the san francisco police department will be taking prevention of harassment and discrimination in the work place training. >> critics are describing the new efforts as too little too late. but the san francisco police officers association supports the chief's plan for training in order to eradicate bigotry. the association said in a statement, quote, every officer has a responsibility to root out

"today in the bay's" elyse curer in has this update. behind the door you can see chiropractor steven moon scurry away from our cameras while an assistant stays lodged in the practice of his doorway in concord. >> two more victims came forward. anyone have anything to say? >> no comment. >> he used his position to bring her into a room expose her and touch her. >> reporter: we were there exclusively as the popular chiropractor was arrested after a female patient told authorities he groped her during a march visit. now, two more patients have come forward. >> it's a similar type case as our first initial victim where he's telling them that they're tense and they have -- asked them if they had a full body

deep tissue massage. >> reporter: despite facing multiple charges state records show moon has an active license from the board of chiropractic examiners and no disciplinary action has been taken against him. >> been really good friends. >> reporter: this woman who didn't want to show her face has lived in the same neighborhood as moon and his family for ten years. she can't believe the allegations against the chiropractor with more than 30 years of experience. >> how would you describe him? >> kind, friendly, you know, good neighbor. >> reporter: nbc bay area news. >> the state has been made aware of the charges against moon and investigators are looking into those allegations. we want to clarify moon's license wouldn't be revoked unless he is convicted. he will face a judge this coming week. a uc berkeley student who was arrested at this fraternity house on piedmont for allegedly sexually assaulting a woman at a

san jose state university saying it will admit students from 13 east san jose schools if those students meet certain academic requirements. and if they do meet those requirements, they'll be guaranteed admission to sjsu. the university says it's a way to bring in more local talent. >> we think it's a great opportunity to increase the number of students from the east side in our backyard to get a college education that might not otherwise be that possible. >> under the agreement, east side students will be able to get into san jose state if they maintain a c-minus average in 15 required classes. in addition to certain s.a.t. or a.c.t. test scores. to a major rescue operation under way in the east bay. large birds are taking up residence in busy downtown oakland and hundreds of their babies are in danger because of a new housing development. "today in the bay's" jodi hernandez explains the efforts to rescue them. >> bird rehab specialist at the

international bird rescue center are busy caring for baby birds saved from the streets of downtown oakland. >> native wildlife in the bay area is something we want to help thrive and make sure they're existing as much as they should be. >> reporter: pushed out of homes by development a colony of herrons has settled in an unlikely and dangerous place. in the dense trees that line the streets of busy downtown. >> they've lost real estate like so many people have lost real estate on the front of the water and these birds are looking for a place to raise their families. >> reporter: when the baby birds fall from the nest as birds often do, they're getting injured or worse. >> they hit concrete or they wander into the street and get run over. >> reporter: now the oakland zoo and the golden gate auto bon society have teamed up to save the baby birds. a hotline set up and zoo volunteers have rescue kits ready to respond. >> by having this kind of route set up where we get a call, someone gets out there and gets

the bird, get it here quickly, we'll give them an injection of fluids or things like that if they need it. >> reporter: the birds are taken to the international bird rescue for rehabilitation. these rescued herrons are learning to perch and fly and will soon be released back to the wild. >> we're happy to help any native wild birds and these guys are pretty amazing birds to help out. >> reporter: jodi hernandez, nbc bay area news. to a final good-bye to a bay area institution. oakland's genova delhi closes today. people are flocking to get the last of the famous lasagna and other pastas. it first opened in 1926. it survived through several changes but stayed in the family for generations. it remained a testament to the district's italian roots, but the delli becomes another in as series of establishments that have gone out of business or relocated because of rising

rents. it is just shy of 7:18. let's check in with meteorologist anthony slaughter with a look at a gorgeous weekend forecast. >> you can see it right here behind me, the golden gate bridge all clear. no fog this morning. and that's the case across every single microclimate this morning. bright sunshine and temperatures in the 50s. now it's going to be a warm day in the bay area. we're talking temps at the coastline 70s, that includes san francisco at 73. the inner bay still hanging on to a few upper 70s like the peninsula, east bay, upper 70s. north bay and tri-valley where you will see temperatures in the low 80s. take it to the beach and i'm going to talk about it. 69 in pacifica. up to 73 half moon bay. as i mentioned the coastline will see 70s. few 50s in pacifica still in the upper 60s. santa cruz nice and warm, 75 and warmer tomorrow. got the day off may want to head to the beach. remember that spf and remember the water because once we get into tomorrow, look at what happens to the 70s.

they move all the way to the immediate coastline and the 80s start to push into the south bay, the tri-valley even for the north bay. it's going to be short lived because by monday the 80s will retreat back to the south bay and we will see 70s more widespread for monday and then we see temperatures cool off because there's more rain in the forecast as we move towards the middle part of the upcoming week. no rain this weekend if you've got plans to head out to mountainview to the a la cart and spring fair. no rain in the forecast. for tomorrow headed to the how weird street fair in san francisco, look at that, nice, talking temperatures in the mid to upper 70s by 4:00 and clear skies through the evening. so it will be a little taste of summer this weekend. and then things do start to change. we head towards the upcoming week. more rain by wednesday. in fact, here's wednesday afternoon. a storm system is going to move in from the north that's going to bring in the potential for a few light showers for wednesday.

the better chance for widespread rain comes in for thursday and then the system kind of rotates and spin off towards the sierra as we head towards next weekend. overall we will see some decent rain, especially for this time of year. not often we get at least a quarter of an inch and we could see that across the bay area as we head towards wednesday, thursday and maybe even into friday. this system does look to move out of here as we head towards next weekend. trying to make plans for next weekend looks like you're good to go. as far as the sierra snow goes, we're expecting more of that as well. by thursday into friday about 4 to 8 additional inches of snow. is expected above 7,000 feet. the extended forecast, pretty simple, nice and warm over the next couple days. we will see sunshine as well for san jose and even for san francisco. you'll notice the temperatures are going to be nice and summer like, well above average, we eventually see those temperatures cool off as we head towards tuesday and wednesday. that's when we'll have the chance of rain push back in here. don't put the umbrellas away

thing homeless people don't have, is what many become experts at creating. >> i'm a grand master at building houses. >> reporter: steve gets to practice every single night. >> 365 houses a year. >> reporter: such temporary shelters have been part of steve's life for the past three years. perhaps, though, not much longer if lisa has any say. >> i see someone who needs. if i can i help. isn't it, if you can you should. >> reporter: lisa and steve became friends a few years back when she volunteered to teach sewing to the city's needy like steve. he lost his place to live not long after that but didn't lose his friend. >> you'll let me know if you need my help. >> reporter: lisa who lives in san mateo visits steve every week trying to make him feel better. all the while, making herself

feel worse. >> it's sad. i go visit him and all he has, everything he owns is a shopping cart. it's just a bunch of junk. i can't imagine living like that. i just can't. >> reporter: it was beyond frustrating. the the one thing her friend needed was a home and lisa couldn't give it to him or could she? last fall, lisa with the help of a friend, began building in the driveway of her home. >> looking good. >> reporter: a tiny home on wheels. one she vows to deliver to steve when it's done. >> i get to look back on my life and say, i improved the quality of someone's life. like that -- i feel that gives me purpose in my life. >> it's a dream of hope. >> reporter: steve has not seen

filing false documents from the dmv. he's been suspended without pay until the case is resolved. to san jose police another step closer to getting body cameras. leaders in the department are recommending that the company taser international provide the cameras. that proposal now goes to the san jose city council for approval. the goal is to have officers wearing the body cams by july. chief garcia tells nous a statement he's looking forward to working with the company and officers on the camera rollout. it is the first death in the u.s. attributed to the zika virus. the disease killed a map in puerto rico. health officials reporting the virus caused a severe immune reaction in the man and led to internal bleeding and his death. it's a rare complication and the cdc says it does not mean the virus is becoming more deadly. there are now nearly 700 confirmed cases of zika in puerto rico. the virus causes rash, headaches

and fever in a majority of infected patients. now to two u.s. women they've been found safely in new zealand after four nights lost during a hike. police say 22-year-old rachel lloyd and her mother planned for a day-long hike this past tuesday but they became stranded in rough terrain not being able to find their way back and spotted bay rescue helicopter and taken to the hospital. sn>> their calm thinking to sta together stay warm. >> police say the women were mainly dehydrated and exhausted. the mother was visiting her daughter who is studying in the country. and it's the end of an era, what's been a tradition at the ringling brothers and barnum & bailey circus for nearly 150 years will be going away as of tomorrow. cart and art spring fair, near 80 tomorrow, beautiful conditions tomorrow, even in san francisco, the how weird street fair tomorrow expecting temperatures to climb from the lower 70s at noon back into the mid 70s by 4:00 with clear skies. really all day long. knowing weird about that. talk about what's headed our way. kind of unusual weather we're expecting over the next couple days at least this time of year. used to seeing dry weather once we hit april and may and as we start off may which begins for tomorrow by the way, and then you'll notice wednesday towards cinco de mayo, thursday, expecting to see a few showers and by friday the showers will push out of here. it does look like we're going to get late season rain towards the middle part of the week. especially for may standards not used to seeing a bunch of rain, maybe a 0.1 would do it for the month and that's how much we may get the first storm system towards the upcoming week. not a huge storm system but
