away from our station. you are keeping tabs on our commute and kris sanchez is there we are on day two of light sprinkle watch. >> we'll see more coverage of rain today. we'll see this storm system starting to ramp up. we start out the morning with dry conditions. you can see there are clouds and light showers across the region. that's that system that will later on bring us rain. temperatures now are in the upper 50s to low 60s heading into the upper 60s today. up to 68 in the north bay. 70 in the south bay. i'll talk more about that rain, what to expect as we head into the weekend. the first half looks soggy. that's coming up in a few. let's head over to mike for a look at the morning commute. >> for the freeways, we are looking all right. on the maps, overall you're okay. san jose there is an issue on theç tracks.

we are getting words from vta there is an issue, bus, bridges because of the activity right by our station here. they have the intersection closed. folks getting to and around our station have an issue. let's continue that happening right now just outside of our studios in san jose, still a very active scene. a man is on top of a vta train refusing to come down. this has been playing out all night. kris sanchez joins us there live. coming down to the wire as trains need to start rolling soon for the morning commute. what do you know? >> reporter: we know those trains are not going to be going anywhere, any time soon that. man is still on top of that vta light rail train. it appears he has taken some of his clothing off. we know officials up there believe that he might be

unstable. we want to protect his identity a bit. there could be a mental health issue. you can see that there is a big response here at north first street. this is not far from highway 87 off ramp on to north first street. power was cut to the tracks and the train is stopped. there is no power in the train either. the situation started around 1:20 this morning when that man climbed on top of the vta light rail train. it's not clear if he climbed up while the train was moving or if it was stopped. in any case, the train is stopped here. it has been here since it stopped about 1:20 this morning. the sheriff's department spokesman tells us they don't believe this man is armed. there are officers on a fire ladder trying to talk him down peacefully. now he is wrapped in something yellow, perhaps a fireman's jacket. there is no train traffic through the area right now. north first street blocked with

the exit off highway 87 and component. if you work in one of these tech businesses here on the north first street corridor, you are going to have to reroute. vta trains generally start moving around 4:00 in the morning. obviously, that did not happen. bus bridges are in place. we'll follow that for you this morning, but we will keep tabs on this situation here. kris sanchez, today in the bay. >> thank you, kris. at 4:34, we are following more breaking news this morning in vallejo. fire crews at the scene of an early morning house fire. started after 1:00 a.m. on a home at car drive near interstate 80. the home had seven people inside. everyone was safely evacuated. a child did suffer first and second degree burns and are being treated at a hospital. bob redell is headed to the

scene and will join us with a live report in the next hour. a wrong turn during a police chase landed this man in big double trouble. that driver passed into polls at the cable car turn about at market street last night. four of the people in the car were arrested. one managed to get away. that started after police tried to pull the car over in union square over a mine license plate infraction. cable cars should be running on schedule this morning. we'll keep you posted. right now at 4:35, developing story. antioch police officer out of the hospital and recovering after being shot in the face by a suspect. all of this starting in bay point yesterday after police say that suspect stole a bmw. a chase followed which ended with a crash in pittsburgh. police say the suspect fired at the officer hitting him in the face. the officer shot back, missed the suspect. that suspect did eventually

surrender to other officers. he has not yet been identified. several other people were also injured in that crash. there is no word on the extent of their injuries. police are trying to hunt down the suspect responsible for this shooting. shattered windows and bullet holes at mcdonald's in antioch. happened before 11:00 yesterday morning. one employee was hit but is expected to be okay. we are expected to hear more about a gilroy high school teacher having illegal relationships with minors online. gloria allred is representing a mother who said she warned the school teacher about the science teacher in 2014. he sent her teenage daughter sexually explicit text messages. he was arrested after posing as a girl online. he is out of jail and resigned

winds helped to spread it. 1,600 homes and buildings have been destroyed. >> we should start to see thunderstorms and that area of low pressure that's been widespread across the region. starts to give us enough energy where we could see storms developing later today. as we take a live look, a quiet start to your thursday morning. once again some of the more active days here today and tomorrow as we continue to track this storm system moving through. it is producing some rain and lightning over the sierra this morning as we get a closer look, we see lightning strikes popping up there. quite a few of them. here once again, it's all quiet this morning as we get things started. it's now 7:00 in the east bay peninsula and san francisco. as we drop into the east bay to get a closer look, brentwood 59.

56 in walnut creek and fremont 7:00. in the north bay it's 56. here is a look at futurecast and the way things could pan out today. we start out with cloudy skies, a few breaks. look at noon. we start to see storms developing around stockton and moving into the east bay hills. when you see the yellows and the reds, that indicates a more intense downpour, the possibility of lightning and small hail and gusty winds. by 7:00, we start to see the activity tapering off. we start out tomorrow morning with the same thing, but then as that low gets on the other side, the rain comes in a different direction. by 8:00 in the morning, we could have spotty showers. especially in the north bay moving into san francisco. it stays unsettled over the next 48 hours with temperatures reaching into the upper 60s to low 70s. if you're heading out to the giants game, bring the rain gear in case. temperatures in the low signatures at first pitch. down to 58 once again a chance
