cleared but chp is monitoring it. san francisco coming down hard on academy of art university. the issue is over the for-profit college's massive real estate holdings. >> steph chuang joining us live from san francisco. we are expecting to hear more today about this lawsuit. >> that's right. good morning. we are expecting the city will file a civil lawsuit against the academy of art here in the city. apparently there are 40 buildings throughout san francisco but according to the "san francisco chronicle," 22 of these buildings may not be legal. the school president and her family use subsidiary companies to illegally convert 22 of the buildings from former apartment and hotel properties into student housing without going through the required zoning and planning process. they describe a decades-long

back and forth between the city and the country's largest for-profit art school including hundreds of thousands of fines still unpaid by the school for alleged planning violation. the city attorney complains that the converted student housing is exacerbating the scarce supply of affordable housing and they want to restore the buildings back to residential use and seeking up to tens of millions of dollars in penalties. this school's attorney told the "chronicle" the university spent $8 million during nine years putting together an environmental impact report that has to be completed before these properties could be legalized, a report the attorney says would be done by july 1st. you can see there is a lot going on here. the city attorney is set to hold a press conference 10:30 in morning at city hall. that is where we are expected to learn the details about this

substitute. stephanie chuang, "today in the bay." >> a millbrae father who has been missing more than a week. his family is desperate for answers. the sheriff's department is asking for help to find him. friends and family held a vigil for 27-year-old keith green yesterday. he disappeared without a trace last week. he was last seen leaving his apartment heading to a restaurant, but he left his wallet and car at home. adding to the mystery, his cell phone was later found a day later at golden gate park. 4:34. the three so-called drifters accused of killing two people in the bay area will be in court today. it's the first time the suspects will appear together since one took a plea deal and agreed to testify against the other two. sean angold is working with prosecutors to help convict the other two. they are charged with murdering a canadian tourist and hiker in

fairfax last year. >> attorneys for dana stubblefield are expected to reveal more evidence to prove his innocent. they say he sexually assaulted a disabled woman last year after she interviewed for a job. new details for a story we broke on "today in the bay" yesterday morning. we know the identity of that man who refused to come down from the top of a vta train. th finally after 12 hours negotiators were successful getting him off. that man is kyle lewis. he was on that train for about half a day. co-face up to a year in jail and $10,000 fine. at 4:35 on your friday morning, a kitty camp out is under way. the nine lives foundation lost the lease for its shelter. 140 cats and kittens need to be adopted by the end of the month. that works out to five cats a day if they are going to find a

they want the mayor to fire the police over shootings. he told them he stood behind suhr's record. there are not just one but two efforts to recall mayor lee. one is a team of local activists, the other group is not identified. a recent survey show there are growing concerns about homeless, skyrocketing rent and crime. lee's approval rating plummeted to the low 40s, the lowest it's ever been. >> families are finding vital resources are not always there for them. this mother says her local hospital promised to send nurses to care for her son. two throat surgeries forced him to eat through a feeding tube. the hospital blamed a lack of pediatric home care in the area.

becoming trapped. kari hall tracking rain in the forecast. >> we do have rain in the forecast. if we get what the models say, we could get the entire amount of a month rain in one weekend. it all comes in batches. we'll have scattered rain. starts out now in the sierra. we'll see this rain moving farther off to the west and moving into the bay area temperaturewise 54 in san francisco. 56 in concord and livermore. 55. the futurecast shows we will start to see more activity here on the radar as we go through the morning, showing more coverage of rain and scattered showers moving in by 10:00. yoelos indicate heavier rain. that will be possible in spots across the bay area. then it starts to move farther off to the south and west.

the rain potential once again in some areas looks like we could have decent amounts between today and tomorrow. it looks like it could linger in some spots into early sunday morning. in morgan hill, you could have 1/2 inch of rain which would once again be the amount we normally get during the entire month. temperatures today reaching into the mid to upper 60s. coming down just a couple of degrees from yesterday. 68 in brentwood and livermore a high of 66. the rockies versus the giants at at&t park, first pitch bring the rain gear just in case. we do have rain in the forecast. mostly cloudy skies and temperatures that will be cool in the low 60s and dropping back to the upper 50s. a look ahead to the weekend. rain still in the forecast. sunday will be the day to get outside. this system will move farther off to the east. highs in mid 60s for san francisco and low 70s for the

tri-valley and inland areas. i'll have another look in a few minutes. might have a look at what's happening with this morning's commute. >> we had that backup at the bay bridge. then it cleared and came back. one of these cash lanes is still not open. not a big surprise. this typically happens. we'll have them all open by 5:00. all roadways open for green here. crews still clearing for many spots. on the peninsula, it is northbound 280 approaching the millbrae avenue offramp. we did have an earlier crash. may be a disabled vehicle. there is a quick traffic break then may be flash lights and activity. that's north 380 over towards the airport. a quick look at the san mateo bridge south of that shot. look how clear that view is. fremont for 880 coming toward the area into milpitas.
