into the next few days we are in for a warm-up. what is going on on the roadways now? >> we had an earlier crash. west 580, the earlier crash has cleared. you see where the arrow is, gone from orange to yellow. >> an overnight crash on the great highway in san francisco. happened at fulton street at the edge of golden gate park. someone was taken to the hospital. we don't know how many were hurt or extent of their injuries.

supporters of the frisco five are calling for another strike in san francisco today. >> they want everyone to stay home and boycott all san francisco businesses and restaurants. >> they expect kid to be here because parents have taken their kids to previous protests. this comes after a chaotic friday night at city hall when police arrested 33 people. protests erupted into a big clash with deputies here. they smashed a front door. it's a movement that has more demands now targeting the top of city hall.

>> we have a lot of young people stepping forward and know that what's happening in the city of san francisco is wrong and chief of police needs to be fire and the mayor needs to go, too. >> the frisco five ended their 17-day hunger strike saturday night. they remain hospitalized. fighting to regain their health. the police department released this statement saying, "we are going to facilitate first amendment activities to the extent they do not violate law or impact the rights of others." this is supposed to be a peaceful protest from 8:00 this morning to 8:00 at night. more than 1,000 rsvp. live at city hall, stephanie chuang "today in the bay." >> the blue ribbon panel is considering reforms to the department and will meet later today. that panel was created last year

after the first batch of racist and homophobic police text messages were released. they are examining racial bias in the department and expected to make institutional reforms. this marks the panel's fifth and final meeting. a judge could decide as early as today when two santa fe brothers accused of killing their parents could stand trial. defense attorneys said they are ready for the preliminary hearing to start today. the two brothers shot and killed their parents inside their evergreen home two weeks ago. in court friday, the prosecutor turned in an electronic file full of evidence. they say the push for a preliminary hearing this early in the case is actually unusual. >> the fact this case is still on track for a preliminary hearing in what is a special

circumstances murder after only ten days is highly unusual. >> if not evidence of the crime is found in a preliminary hearing, the case moves to trial. the attorney for the older brother indicated he may ask for a delay. >>. >> 5:05. one man facing criminal charges after he reportedly walked into a b.a.r.t. station with a fake gun. yesterday afternoon b.a.r.t. police were called to san leandro station. the station was closed down until officers finally made an arrest. >> a chp officer in serious condition after a crash over the weekend. the 18-year veteran is set to undergo surgery for his injuries. gregory ramirez of san lorenzo hit the officer with a fedex delivery truck he was driving.

the suspect was under the influence of drugs. six members of the san leandro police department are embarking on a long journey to honor and remember fallen officers. it's called the police unity tour and kicks off today. they will ride their bicycles d.c. it will honor more than 21,000 police officers who have all died in the line of duty. on to the hardwood now. looks like steph curry is getting better, but will not play tonight. >> he looked almost normal at practice yesterday but is listed as doubtful for tonight's game. curry is recovering from a sprained right knee. coach steve kerr assessed the situation. >> we'll see how he comes up

the justice department is putting the pressure on north carolina state leaders over the state's controversial "h-b-2" law. it limits protections for lesbian, gay, transgender and they are putting pressure over the h2b law that limits protection for lestians gays and trans genders. officials are telling them to fix the law today or face consequences. >> tracie potts is live in washington with more on how this could all unfold today. good morning, tracy. >> governor. governor mcrory says he'll meet the deadline today but doesn't sound like he will do anything to not enforce or roll back the law. doesn't look like the legislature will do that. if that's the case, the fed could come in with litigation. they said they think this law violates the civil rights act, that is employment discrimination requiring people to use the rest rooms of their

sex at birth, which they say discriminates against transgender people in north carolina. university of north carolina said they don't have to agree with the law, but they have to follow it and there is a lot of money tied up in this. nearly $1.5 billion in federal funds that could be withheld if north carolina continues with the effort to enforce this law. $800 million in student loans could be tied up if north carolina doesn't roll it back. we'll wait to hear more from both sides. state officials and justice department later today. >> the ball is in the north carolina government's court. thank you, tracie potts. a yearbook misprint is generating a storm of controversy. the photo shows a muslim student wearing a jihab. it identifies her as isis

phillips. the problem is that is not her name. the council on american islamic and american relations says school leaders have to reprint the yearbook. >> we are in an environment where we've seen an unprecedented increase in hate crimes to have a visibly muslim student be labeled isis, for whatever reason and whichever way, is frightening. >> the school is investigating that situation. apparently a student named isis phillips did previously attend the school but since transferred. it's not certain if that led up to this confusion. >> earlier in the campaign donald trump said he would not raise taxes on the wealthy, but the presumptive nominee is changing his mind. trump says the rich will pay more. >> for the wealthy, i think it's going to go up.

swallowed the liquid nicotine. ==vo== that's according to a new study by the u-s poison center. 5:24, electronic cigarettes and making young children sick as they swallow that liquid nicotine. several die and have complications after swallowing that nicotine. the results highlight a need for better awareness about the importance of keeping the devices out of sight and reach of young children. >> reopening the conversation now on the norovirus when there's been another outbreak on a cruise ship docked in maine. almost 1/3 of the passengers have gotten sick since it left southampton, england, last month for a 34-day cruise. that's more than 200 people including crew members. that ship is carrying nearly 1,000 passengers. test results were positive for norovirus. the symptoms include nausea, vomiting and diarrhea. the ship is being cleaned right now.

three so-called drifters. now we are looking at the victim. they face murder charges in the killing of a hiker and also a canadian tourist in golden gate park. both crimes happened back in october. a third defendant sean angold on the left pleaded guilty to second degree murder charges and agreed to testify against the others as a plea deal. the hunger strikers are urging a boycott of corporate businesses and restaurants and telling parents to keep their children home from school. protesters want mayor lee removed from office and police chief suhr fired over what they xlam is excessive use of force by police officers. >> they are going to be in the hospital a few days as they reintroduce food into their system. they are in good spirits.

>> activists say mayor ed lee is only focused on money and today's planned strike the only way to get his attention. stephanie chuang will join us with the latest in a live report in our next half hour. something else we are watching on this monday morning and a key medical marijuana decision could be handed down today in san francisco, one that might limit prosecution of growers and dispensaries. that case is being decided by the ninth circuit court of appeals. at issue is an amendment that says the department of justice cannot use federal funding to prosecute users in states where medical marijuana is legal. doj has been going after dispensaries and growers today. three sets of defendants sued over this practice. >> the idea of supervised

injection sites for heroin addicts is gaining traction. leaders in san francisco talked about this in the past. at least three states are debating the idea. there are serious legal and political obstacles to overcome. 5:36. a new $3 billion town center in cupertino could be in the works. the proposal has more than 3,500 signatures well over the required amount. there is the rendering of the plan. retail stores, residential units and officers topped off with 30 acres trails. >> time is running out to spend time in one of san francisco's most popular parks. tomorrow alamo park will be shut down for several months. the park is known for the beautiful views and famed painted ladies victorians in the distance.

half hour, assuming that the clouds and fog cooperate. the last time mercury passed in front of the sun was in 2006. you can see it as a small dot moving across the face of the sun. if you'll recall from grade school, mercury is the smallest planet in our solar system, just slightly larger than our moon and only passes between us and the sun 13 times every 100 years. this will be visible for about 7 1/2 hours if you're on the east coast, less than six hours here on the west. visible from sunrise until 11:45. you do not want to stare directly at the sun. they will allow visitors to witness this event with one of their large telescopes, assuming

"arthur buckel" is a convicted killer. the hunt for an escaped inmate is happening right now in new jersey. arthur buckle is a convicted killer. he escaped on tuesday and was spotted at a rest stop in jersey but was gone by the time state troopers arrived. he was serving a sentence for aggravated assault and manslaughter for killing a crying baby. medical advances are making it easier for kids with complex health conditions to leave the hospital, but as the demand for home care increases, the supply is failing to catch up. >> our investigative unit posed the question. is accessing home care a challenge for families with sick kids? >> good morning.

we posed this question after a sonoma county mother reached out us to. she needed a nurse to help her son james with a feeding tube but the local hospital did have anyone to send blaming a lack of pediatric home care in her area. in alameda, kids are on waiting lists for months. agencies admit they can't find nurses to fill hours. north bay senator mike mcgwire proposed a bill and hopes a rate hike will increase access to home care. we took these concerns to the department that overseas medical. we found parents taking extreme measures to finally get their kids the help they need. chuck and laurie's daughter requires round the clock assistance. they had to move from napa to san diego to find consistent
