good morning, i'm live here in san francisco, soma area where a sink hole is set to tie up some of the morning commute, we got an update the latest on repairs and this road closure. dozens of people dead, dozens other seriously hurt after a bomb explodes right in the middle of a crowded market in baghdad. a clear under surveillance picture of a man that they say he broke into a home and how he got in, what he got away with, right now on "today in the bay." a very good now wednesday morning. thanks, for being with us. >> things are starting to tighten up a little bit. >> things are starting to worm up as well? >> get ready for that. we start out with cloud and fog this morning.

low visibility in spots we see low clouds over san francisco, temperatures in the low 40s to low 50s, looking up to 80 degrees in the north bay as well as 80 degrees in the tri-valley. san francisco up to 68 degrees. heading over to mike now, breakbrake lights for the south bay as well as the bay bridge. >> that's right. this is not the surprise over here the metering lights caused the brake lights and the gathering at the toll plaza itself. that's a nice drive there. highway 4 she shows slowing at concord. 87 into downtown a live look shows traffic backing up, a typical schedule around the bay. that's good news. we will get you updated in a minute. >> we have an update to breaking news we are following. within the last hour. we have learned the death toll is now at 63. dozens more are hurt.

we are learning that an suv packed with explosives went off near a market filled with people who were shopping at the time. isis is claiming fiblt for that attack. back locally now. we have a developing story where crews are expected to start repair work on a big sinkhole that opened up on a busy san francisco street. all this is happening on mission right near new moug in soma. >> reporter: today stephanie chuang is there live. people got stuck in that sink hole and there were people inside? >> reporter: that's right. an uber driver taking a family, pretty scary moments as the suv teetered here. can you see the sinkhole this morning. i got an update from the public utilities commission, which said this road will be closed through today. it depends on what they find but you can see the sewer line dating back to 1875, a hole that is, 12 i should say by 5, nine feet deep, to keep this area

safe until crews start repairs. now, take a look at what was captured on a cell phone. a uber driver stopping here when the sink hole opens up, firefighters had to stabilize and pull the suv out using a hope. people inside were fine, though shaken up. this is the latest incident caused by aging infrastructure, one if april that caused a sinkhole on meadow street t. city expedited its work to prevent more sink holes from opening up. >> age, drives replacement. so we are looking at all the sewers throughout the city. >> reporter: so muny will operate in the area, though it will be rerouted in both directions. during the repairs, again, how long this stakes depends on factors, including how much if you come back live here, touch time crews will have to take to

identifying a suspect who burglarized a home. security cameras caught these pictures of the man. it happened at a home on south clark avenue late last month. police say he got into the home through a section under construction. took out some belongings and walked out through the sliding glass door afternoon. a follow-up now to the car blurringlaries in campbell. police now say two people are in custody. they face charges of attempted car theft, grand theft and conspiracy. police released this video footage after the crime the two could be seen rummageing through two other vehicles. they were able to steal cash and an iphone afternoon. a boost is planned for student athletes enrolled at the university of california t.uc governing board is considering a policy, it would triple the students for financial aid with

a sports injury. the idea is to improve the well-being of students who participate in intercollegiate sports. super bowl 50 is now a little more than a distant memory. so instead of playbooks, two cities are pouring over financial books, to get a sense of the payout for holding the biggest event. this morning, san francisco leaders will look at the impact to host super bowl 50 t. city of santa clara crunched its numbers. both cities came out ahead. some are still asking if the hassle made it all worth it. >> was it worth it? absolutely. it gave the city a lot of recognition. >> i think we could have finally paved some streets or put in lightt crosswalks we need around our schools. >> most of the numbers in these reports are focused on tax revenues versus the costs for extra services. the numbers focus less on how bay area businesses were

impacting and hotels and restaurants that saw a big spike in their business. laura, we are still trying to fill up our banks of reservo reservoirs. the drought is not over t. restrictions are gone. reservoirs there nearly filled with winter rain, east bay mud is dropping the monthly drought surcharge. >> that added about 8 bucks to household water bills. mandatory rationing is also cancelled. administrators say voluntary water rationing is still strongly encouraged. >> no rain in our forecast. in fact, temperatures will be heating up, right, kari? >> that's right. it will be warming up into the '80s today for many inland areas. we will see that for a couple of days before it cools off. so air conditioners on full blast later on this afternoon. but we do start out with mild temperatures and some morning clouds, also some patchy fog. your lunchtime temperature, take it outside, it will be in the low 60s to 70s. 68 degrees in san francisco during that drive home.

if passed by voters -- anyone 16 or older could vote on measures on the city's municipal ballot -- as well as any city-wide office. but they can not vote in state or national elections. the vote was 9 to 2 -- with "supervisor eric mar" saying his 16-year-old daughter is ready to vote. he ss >> the legal age for voting in local elections could drop to 16. the supervisors approved the ballot. if passed, any 8116 or older can vote on the city's municipal ballot and city wide office. they cannot vote in state or national elections. the vote was 9-2 with supervisors eric mahr saying his 16-year-old daughter is ready to vote. he says it's about expanding drake so more people can have a say in government. widening the scope to national politics. no surprise, donald trump did pick up primary wins in nebraska and west virginia. also victorious in vest west

virginia, bernie sanders, edward, does this win do anything for hillary clinton? >> reporter: bernie sanders has an uphill tough road. donald trump is now the presumptive nominee. donald trump will be here at capitol hill. he is going to meet with house speaker paul ryan on thursday. now that meeting is going to be to sway ryan and other party leaders to show that donald trump is not only republican, but the right republican to win the presidency. donald trump fresh off the victories in west virginia and nebraska, huge victories. has a tough road in a meeting thursday, ryan said quote we shouldn't just pretend our party is unified when we're not. this as senator ted cruz says he may jump back in the race. he says let the door opened. if the landscape or political landscape changes, he would

re-assess his decision. trump has made the pivot to talk about hillary clinton and attack hillary clinton. so is bernie sanders. bernie sanders is attacking hillary clinton. sanders won huge as you say in west virginia yesterday. still, though, he is behind in all of the delegate counts. he has to hit 100% of the rest of the delegates to win the nomination. hillary clinton is still in a very tough position. she can't ignore the massive amount of votes that supports senator senator has, she wants to turn and pivot towards the republicans. >> they'd like to move on. thanks a lot. it's 6 there. 14. chipotle hired new experts. >> it's been a tough time being a shareholder. >> an expert is a long-time critic. >> he is, he is definitely a safety expert. he hired david atchison a former

56 degrees now in palo alto. we have a mid-day game for the giants. they take on the blue jays. it will be warm at at&t park. even those these temperatures don't look that warm, it will start to kick in from the southwest at 10 to 15 miles an hour. a look at all the microclimate today. those high temperatures reaching into the mid-80s today for the south bye. some 70s for the peninsula and san francisco, up to 67 degrees, a wide range in temperatures. 60s along the coast. 70s for the inner bay. then we'll have some '80s in the tri-valley. livermore up to 83 degrees. and for the warriors game later on this evening. at oracle arena. it will be 70 degrees as you head inside. so comfortable temperatures. high pressure still in control for the next couple of days, which will bring widespread '80s inland in time for the weekend on friday so fog returns for the coastline and that will help cool our temperatures down. we'll feel it also all around

the bay area. so looking at that temperature trend for san jose, on thursday, up to 81 degree, it drops down to 76 degrees on friday t. average temperature 74. but we'll be below that in time for saturday and sunday, also into the start of next week. so our highs will be much cooler than today and tomorrow, looking at some mid-60s for san francisco, 70s for the tri-valley as well as in south bay and the north bay. so we'll continue to see those temperatures dropping after a couple of days of a summer field. let's head over to mike, wrapping you around that sinkhole in san francisco. >> we will talk about the closure t. slow down we expect. it is building right now in san francisco. over here the rest of the bay, that's the dublin shot. that's the entire bay speed sensors. nothing that unusual. south bay looks good the start from 101.

very good well. i'm prepared for my escape. i am going to find my way out using a spoon. we are excited about this. as you mentioned 100th i was in of the national park service. i visited alcatraz about 25 years ago, again as a visitor. since 1973, this is one of the most popular parks. so we're going to take you on a great behind the scenes tour of alcatraz. it will be a lot of fun coming up this morning on "today." also i took my 17-year-old daughter. if you got a teenager, you know it can be a little difficult getting them out in nature. i took le la with me to sequoia national forest about three hours north of here. it's worth the drive, guys, because as great as the video is we have for you, it still does not do justice to the majesty of these trees, so there are so many, you are so blessed just so

serious right now 3-to-1. they advance to the nba playoffs. >> you can feel it, right? >> a lot of twirling yellows going on tonight. thank you very much, bob. new this morning, a car crashing into the linkedin headquarters in mound view overnight. now, witnesses report the driver appeared to be unconscious. we expect word from police later on what led up to this crash. paramedics could be seen tending to the driver near the front of the building. that person was rushed to the hospital. there is no immediate word on his or her condition. big changes for the santa clara fair ground. the justice department building a new park and sports complex. they will hear a complex on the redevelopment plan. next tuesday, there will be a community bid for businesses in that new complex. if the plans are eventually

approved, construction could start next year. right now, san jose city leaders have given the green light to void one of the most divisive measures ever enacted. four years ago, voters approved measure b. >> that authorized pension reform that led to a massive rift between the city and its unions. last year, both sides brokered a settlement to replace the measure. yesterday, city councilmembers approved the recommendation to follow a judge's ruling and invalidate that legislation. moving to san francisco now, and critics of the city's police chief used a public forum at yesterday's city council meeting to grill the mayor. several members of the board of supervisors joined activists in speaking out. they want to know what the mayor is going to do about what's happening right now between the administration and a very vocal group of protesters who are at logerheads. activists are asking the mayor to fire police chief greg surt. mayor responded by outlining a

series of forms, improve training for police officers and new ways top up a dialogue with the public. they say those reforms will cost about $17 million. more criminal charges stemming from the beating of a san francisco suspect. two county sheriffs deputy, caught on camera last fall will face charges of felony assault and assault with a deadly weapon and battery with serious bodily injury. prosecutors say they're waiting for additional medical records from the victim. the deputies remain on paid administrative leave as the case against them moves forward. another sheriffs deputy in santa clara county is in trouble. he is accused of sexually assaulting a young girl. they say he abused the girl in en2012, di as, who is a seven year veteran of the force has been placed on unpaid leave. he is expected in court

tomorrow. >> we have new details on a series of knife attacks in massachusetts. it was a bizarre and deadly stabbing spree that ended inside of a shopping mall. officers say it all started when a man entered a home in bristol county, stabbing a mother and the daughter, killing the 80-year-old mother. he then saw and stabbed four more people, killing one of them, before he was shot and killed by an off duty police officer. there is still no word on the motive for his attacks. the relative accused in the stabbing death of public defender is expected to be arraigned today. >> that arraignment is supposed to happen outside the courtroom. instead the judge will travel to the psychiatric facility at san francisco general hospital where he is being held. police say he killed his defense attorney last friday. she was his great aunt. the bay area now has 13 cases of the zika virus. marin county has its first reported case. health officials stay patient
