cold front is bringing showers to northern california. for us we're going to stay in between the sunshine, 60s and 70s. nothing out of the blue. 64 degrees for san francisco. 70 for wine country up in the north bay. 67 for the east bay and nice and comfortable, a little warm for the south bay. low 70s there. overall, though, temperatures will be nice and comfortable today and tomorrow. a warming trend is on tap this upcoming week. summertime heat returning to the bay. we'll go over that in about 15 minutes. hope to see you then. >> can't wait. see you then. new this morning, one man is dead and two people are hospitalized after a three-car collision on the freeway. it happened around 1:30 this morning on interstate 808. the california highway patrol says a car was stalled on the freeway near the 980 interchange in oakland. it's not known why the car was stopped there in traffic. the crash shut down three lanes, but the roads are now clear. officers are investigating whether alcohol was a factor in

the accident. the oakland police department is investigating whether three officers had sexual relations with a woman who may have been under age at the time. last night that woman responded on her facebook page that her relationships were consensual and legal because they began after she turned 18. police say the case began to unfold last september when this officer brendon o'brien committed suicide. sources say he left a note revealing the alleged sexual misconduct and other officers who may have been involved. >> i tasked the office of inspector general in the police department with doing a review of off-duty misconduct cases over the last several years. >> it is truly tragic that this type of conduct is happening at this moment in time. >> mayor libby schaaf issued an executive directive which requires opd to notify the district attorney's office when there is any suspicion of criminal conduct by a police

officer. now to the fbi accused of crossing a line in the east bay taking surveillance video without a warrant. the agency planted hidden microphones and conducted secret video surveillance at the alameda county courthouse without a warrant. the surveillance was part of an investigation over a ten month period ending in 2011. the fbi at the time had been investigating bid rigging at foreclosure auctions at the courthouse. some of the people accused in the rigging scandal say the fbi violated their constitutional rights. a san francisco man is recovering after he was hit by a police car. the crash happened thursday near second and mission. take a look there. tim doyle was cycling past the police car in the bike lane on bike to work day. you could see the cop car hit him as he passed by. sfpd says the officer was not responding to an emergency call and did stop to help and call an ambulance. >> they didn't do it intentionally.

they definitely made a mistake. but it's like whoa, where did that come from. they didn't see me for sure. >> there's know cause for the city not acting with urgency to prevent another crash like this from happening. >> doyle suffered a fractured bone in his back and a gash in his leg you see there. san francisco police say the officer who hit doyle is still working but is not allowed to drive during this investigation. only on nbc bay area, we've learned a south bay tech executive at a tech company is expected to increase the reward in an unsolved murder. applied materials will offer additional money to help bring attention to this cold case. this according to the victim matthew flores' family. flores was gunned down in the company's parking lot back in march of 1994. flores had just moved to california after taking the job when he was shot and killed. the only evidence, a ford explorer seen leaving the parking lot of the company right after the shooting.

a san francisco man is in jail without bail in connection with a crime spree in the south bay. andre redmon was arraigned accused of robbing and killing a man in los gatos on wednesday. he's also charged in the death of his accomplice who was with him when they crashed their car on highway 17 in campbell. some neighbors say they're stunned that such chaos could unfold in their neighborhood. >> it's a very quiet area and everybody knows everyone. it's a very unusual occurrence. >> officers say redmon ran off after crashing his car near hamilton avenue. his accomplice was taken to valley medical center where he died. intense moments yesterday evening near the pittsburgh marina where four people were saved from the cold waters bay rescue crew on a fire boat after their jet ski overturned. this happened shortly after 5:00 p.m. two adults and two children were stuck in the water.

all four were wearing life jackets but they were showing signs of high though therm ya. one of the adults and both children were taken to the hospital. workers in san francisco are efforting to have this massive sinkhole fixed by noon today. the sinkhole opened up and nearly swallowed an suv in new montgomery during the wednesday evening commute. here's a picture that crews posted yesterday on twitter as they worked to replace the old sewer line that had ruptured. a major bug problem at a legendary bay area pizza place. new pictures obtained by nbc bay area show the situation at blonde's pizza in union square. the pizzeria has been shut down because health inspectors found cockroaches all over the restaurant from the prep table to the mixer even the pizza oven. the health department says blonde's can reopen once they've solved this infestation. school is out for the

weekend but the cleaning crew is still on duty at a san jose elementary school where the fight is on against the stomach flu. more than 100 students out sick and norovirus could be to blame. it's been a difficult two weeks at horace man elementary and the school is working to teach the kids the importance of washing their hands. >> we had the children apply a powder and lotion that will show them the germs that maybe remain on their hands. >> the school nurses used a black light to show how germs can spread. school officials say this outbreak started two weeks ago when just one student got sick and threw up. at 7:06 much more ahead on "today in the bay" -- >> coming up, yesterday's directive by the white house for schools to provide transgender students access to bathrooms that match their gender identity sparking debate. did you foe bay area high schools have had those options in place for more than ten years. s also, the road to rio comes

people otherwise invisible. >> when i heard about the guidance i was happy. >> reporter: kevin is director of student wellness and safety in san francisco public schools where students have long had the right to access the bathroom that conforms to their gender identity. >> san francisco has had a policy since 2003 and then, of course, what we did is we clarified our policy in 2013 with the assembly bill change around transgender students' access to rest rooms and changing facilities. >> reporter: this as the department of education offered guidance allowing transgender students to use facilities in line with their gender identity but stopped short of legal eb forcement. >> the challenge is not to isolate anybody. it's not to discriminate against anybody or make anybody unsafe. it's to ensure that our schools are as inclusive and respectful and safe as they can possibly be. >> reporter: there has been backlash in states like texas,

you're watching "today in the bay" . welcome back. turning 7:14 on your saturday morning. lots of clouds as we look at sinal and the green rolling hills. 60s today, warmer today and a warmup this coming week. the countdown to rio is on. the olympic torch relay has reached a hilltop city on the 11th day of the torch relay through brazil. the city with the former colonial mining town was named a world heritage site for its striking baroque architecture set high in the mountains. the torch relay will snake throughout latin america's largest country on a three month torch tour ending with the olympic ceremony on august 5th. more than 10,000 athletes will gather in rio and for a local two-time olympian this event offers her a chance to

"today in the bay" explains. >> reporter: watching her coach youth soccer you would never know you're watching a former to time former olympian and soccer legend. that's stacy. returning to home country of brazil for the largest sporting event of the world is a dream come true. >> play play. >> reporter: at 48 years old. she is still a competitor. she now coaches youth soccer in walnut creek. >> that's how we roll. >> and at sew lan no community college in fair field. >> i can still do my job well. >> reporter: don't let her unassuming way fool you. she's a two-time olympicic athlete. she went pro at 14 years old at a time when girls didn't play. in fact, back home in brazil she

learned by kicking around her doll's head. >> my doll's head. >> reporter: she's going to rio as a representative of her country. >> i know athletes right now cannot wait. >> reporter: and heading to the olympics as an ambassador of fifa, the governing body of soccer. >> like a dream come true. >> while more girls play the sport. her real dream, she says, is to eventually even the playing field and sharing male and female athletes are paid equally. >> every single girl in brazil are waiting for this. >> the shift is over. oh. >> reporter: and she says girls here in the u.s. have many more opportunities when they grow up. they can get paid to play professionally but note they still don't make as much as men. and she says just to have the opportunity in her home country of brazil is a huge opportunity for the sport of soccer for girls there.

in walnut creek, nbc bay area news. can you believe it, beta breakers is tomorrow and, in fact, the annual race tomorrow morning marks the 105 running of the famous footrace. it may be the only one in the world that is costume and clothing optional. 40,000 runners are registered but thousands more join unofficially. b.a.r.t. and call trans has added service. police are adding if they see you with alcohol they will make you pour it out. i ran it last year. >> and i think that alcohol is the least of their concerns. >> seriously. i saw them last year taking it out of people's hands. >> see a lot of other stuff too, things you don't want to see. >> stuff we can't discuss on air at 7:17 in the morning. you know what we're talking about. >> you went last year and won't be going this year. >> no. when you have kids it's a different story. >> yeah. >> i'll leave it at that.

>> take it away. >> outside, look at belvedere this morning. you can see we're waking up to clouds and if you have kids hopefully they're still sleeping in. i hope mine are too. let's talk about weather. here we go, a shot at belvedere, another gorgeous shot of the city. sunrise coming up. orange in the background. it will be a nice weekend and looking at temperatures that will be 60s at the coastline what our hour by hour forecast tells in san francisco. by lunch time low 60s. by this afternoon break out and see a few peeks of sunshine but cool today, temperatures in sf only near 64 degrees. keep the jackets handy if you will be at the coastline. elsewhere if you're ven during to the inland valleys or to the zoo or get out of the park and enjoy, it's going to be nice. we're not talking about rain in the forecast. looking at tperatures again in the 50s and 60s. and as we head through the day we will see temperatures top out in the 70s. look at the power of beta breakers taking over my computer.

here's your forecast for tomorrow as we were talking about. wake up to clouds and drizzle for tomorrow. 55 degrees expected for that morning start and then as you go through the day we will break out into sunshine and still going to be cool, though, in san francisco tomorrow. temperatures only topping out near 60 degrees. all right. let's go on to the next thing happening. you know about this, the sharks taking on the blues tomorrow at the sap center. game one of the western division finals happening tomorrow. we're looking at 69 degrees for the sharks and the blues. we can do tailgating outside. we know it's inside so you don't have to worry about anything as far as the forecast impacting that. satellite and radar a storm system making its way through the bay area. the low clouds in place, not the typical fog we're used to seeing. the cloud cover associated with this system will bring us a little bit of drizzle to the north bay and see the clouds drifting on through the san francisco bay right now. towards the north, eureka, they may see showers through the day today, mostly in the next couple hours and then as the system

moves owl we will all see sunshine and that will warm us back into the 60s and even for the 70s. so there's the system as i told you about 60s and 70s in place for today and really same deal for tomorrow. we're not going to see much change as far as the forecast goes. today and tomorrow. look what happens on monday. those 80s start to creep in here from the central valley and that's going to mean for some warming as we head towards tuesday and wednesday. so this is monday as we start the work week notice temperatures again, above average. and nice and warm. 78 degrees for the south bay for monday. tuesday and wednesday in the 80s. same deal for the peninsula. even san francisco. you're not going to be immune to this. we're talking 70s for the start of the work week but by wednesday you will be in the 80s as well. the north bay, the east shore and the tri-valley it is going to get toasty. look at the north bay on monday, 82 degrees and by wednesday, most of our inland vals will top out near 90. get ready for the summer sizzle. by tuesday and wednesdays the days you need to make sure you

opportunities this country has given her. though, her reason for giving back to others on mother's day, well that has much more personal roots. of all the places a mom wants to spend time with her kids on mother's day, juvenile hall cannot be anywhere near the top of that list. >> it's not the end of your life. >> reporter: thanks to one mom, megan williams, that dim scenario, has turned out a bit brighter for thousands of other moms. you see on the saturday before mother's day, for the past 20 years, megan has been coming here, bringing with her a handful of volunteers she's corralled and hundreds of flowers she's paid for herself. >> you have to break like this and you cover yourself. >> reporter: they spend the next few hours helping the inmates, boys and girls, create floral arrangements so even though they live behind bars they have at

least a little something to give their moms on mother's day's. >> i wanted to give the kids the opportunity to say i love you. >> reporter: something megan says she's never done. one of 15 children growing up in war-torn vietnam, megan says she never had a close relationship with her mother. >> i never ever give my mom a hug. i wanted so much. >> reporter: it's what motivate hers, she says, to do what she can so that these kids don't find themselves saying the same things later in their lives. >> i wish every day somebody could do this to me and bring me closer to my mom. >> reporter: like the bouquets she helps them create megan's approach is a mixed arrangement. >> you're not alone. >> reporter: in her case of compassion. >> you are a tough girl, huh. >> reporter: and comedy. >> what do you mean? >> reporter: yet for all the time and effort megan spends on this she's not really concerned with what the arrangements look like when they're done. the flowers, she knows, won't

under way by june 21st but his lead attorney doesn't agree a parentally because he's busy with another case. garcia torres asked to switch attorneys which would lead to another year of delays. after a brief closed court meeting garcia torres withdrew his request. the two will return to court later this month. sierra lamar disappeared going to school in morgan hill four years ago. students are rising up for transgender rights, an issue being addressed from the white house to the bay area. pete shows us it's not your typical anti-bullying campaign. >> never even home. >> reporter: juan gonzalez played the role of a transgender student by the name of robin. >> his mother ends up finding out that he is a transgender and she rejects him and he feels like no one is there for him. >> reporter: in real life, juan identifies as gay. but the andrew hills senior has close friends who have been bullied just because they're

transgender. >> back talk about them being different. saying that they are not supposed to be a transgender. >> reporter: juan is a part of the high school's anti-bullying club. the student club puts on this annual show, re-enacting different cases of bullying and how to prevent it. >> this is how our students are expressing their concerns about bullying and trying to get everybody else on board. >> reporter: the performance comes on a day when the obama administration issued a guidance for transgender students in public schools to use bathrooms based on their gender identity. california law allows them to do so. >> i hope that i can feel the same emotions they have gone through and let them know that there is hope. >> reporter: nbc bay area news. turning now to decision 2016. the political buzz in the bay area is intensifying as we get closer to our june 7th primary. former president bill clinton is coming to the east bay on

tuesday, may 24th. he's campaigning for his wife and democratic frontrunner hillary clinton. the fund-raiser is hosted by fremont entrepreneur jay betoria. the following day they will appear together at the home of sharon nears and steve [ inaudible ]. mrs. clinton has a sizable lead over bernie sanders in the delegate counts. caught in the act, a would-be package thief has been arrested following a confrontation that's gone viral. >> if i were you i would put that down. >> why? >> that's my stuff. i live here. >> really? >> this is my house. >> my mom lives here. >> i'm going to call the police on you. >> wow. police in southern california arrested that womanp after she tried stealing two packages in front of a home. that homeowner as you saw there arrived just as the woman was walking away. he told the woman he lived there and was calling the cops. the woman tried to tell the man her mom lives there before she gave up and walked off.

seeing light showers this morning. for us, we're not getting enough moisture in the atmosphere so getting a few passing clouds and over the next couple hours these clouds are going to be out of here. the weather story for today, really does paint the picture of 60s and 70s. usual we're used to having. 60s are coast, 70s inland vallejo. tomorrow the same until monday when our warming trend kicks in. 70s for the north bay, the east bay including the tri-valley and the south bay towards santa cruz, things really start to warm up for monday and by tuesday and wednesday, wednesday near 90 degrees in the south bay. same deal for the peninsula. a little cooler but again in the 80s for tuesday and wednesday. and for san francisco as well. you will be at 73 to start the work week. in the 80s by wednesday. in wine country for monday and tuesday, already going to start off in the 80s. the east shore in the 70s for monday, climbing close to 80 by wednesday and the tri-valley

you're watching "today in the bay." >> welcome back. 7:49. we are using our emeryville camera to give you this look at the eastern span of the bay bridge. san francisco off in the distance. shrouded in clouds. meteorologist anthony slaughter says 60s today, warmer tomorrow and warmer by wednesday. ride sharing services like uber and lyft have made it tough for taxi drivers but those taxi drivers are also getting squeezed somewhere else and it could be costing you. drivers on the peninsula turn to nbc bay area for help saying they're being forced to pay hefty kickbacks to hotel staff. vicky nguyen went undercover to see what the cabbies call extortion. >> reporter: a group of taxi drivers called us saying they're

getting fleeced by hotel staff who want 40 or 50% of their cab fare as a payoff. the drivers say they if don't they pay up they don't get work. what might look like a quick hand shake is an exchange of cash. >> yep. got money. >> we took our cameras undercover at hotels in burlingame after these cabbies asked the investigative unit for help. >> is this a big problem for all of you? >> yes. >> they asked to be disguised worried they will lose business for speaking up. >> the drivers say over the past few years, hotel doormen, bellmen and valets started demanding more cash in exchange for service calls. >> who do we talk to if i need a taxi. >> that would be me, sir. >> reporter: they say instead of $5 or $10 a ride, hotel staff now want a much bigger piece of the pie.

>> you have to give up half of your salary to the hotel? >> that's normally what we're doing right now. >> reporter: these drivers say unlike in san francisco where cab lines are more established and respected hotel staff here have more control of who to call and when. they asked us to go undercover to document their routines. >> all right. i'm going in wearing a backpack. >> reporter: one by one at the embassy suites drivers made cash payments to hotel workers. one employee appeared to receive three payments within ten minutes. and when we went out on other days we saw similar exchanges. like this driver we captured at the marriott valet desk. we observed him placing cash under the counter. when our producer approached the valet put the cash in his pocket. another giving cash to a worker at the hilton. >> we work seven days a week and we cannot support our families. >> reporter: and the drivers say sometimes customers end up paying the price.

>> sometimes they overcharge the people because it's the only way they can get money and pay. >> reporter: our cameras caught this, cabs cutting the taxi line. the drivers say they sometimes wait hours in line only to have the hotel staff call our drivers who -- other drivers who offer bigger kickbacks. >> they are very greedy. let me remind you they don't pay taxes on that i do. it's under the table, it's cash. >> the only people who can fix this problem is the hotels and the police. >> and that's also a taxi driver. >> reporter: we took our video to police chief eric wallman and says burlingame has an ordinance banning hotels from soliciting fees or compensation for preference or priority to any taxi. >> what can you say to reassure the taxi drivers their concerns aren't going to fall into a black hole? >> well, i think call me. and i'm very, very anxious to

take action on it and meet with the hotel managers and understand that i plan on enforcing this. >> reporter: the chief says it's a misdemeanor citation for anyone caught accepting kickbacks in exchange for rides and if the hotels don't enforce the rules. >> i can't go on record saying that i will pretty much guarantee a compliance check in the future. >> reporter: we reached out to all the hotels where we saw the cash exchanges. the hilton which owns embassy suites and tunnel tree says it has a policy that prohibits employees from soliciting gratuities and requires all to employee with local laws. it is investigating this matter. the marriott told us the hotel has strict guidelines and adheres to local standards for booking transportation and the marriott takes the accusations very seriously and if needed will take the appropriate measures to address the situation. >> i want to make it right for the taxi drivers and i want to change the behaviors of the hotels and if we can accomplish
