we'll talk about the high heats and cooldown for the weekend. you're tracking a crash in san jose. >> traffic is light as you see from this live camera at the bay bridge toll plaza. it's tuesday and we expect to kick in 5:30. overall the bay looks good as far as speeds go. in the south bay, northbound 880 at the brokaw off ramp, reports of a crash might be affecting lanes but not expecting speeds. this happened seven minutes ago. we'll watch for reports of injuries or slowing. overall san jose looks good right now. back to you. >> thank you, mike. 5:01, video just coming into our newsroom out of san francisco showing a muni bus wrapped in crime tape after someone was stapd onboard. a man was taken to the hospital after being stabbed in the torso about 1:30 this morning at mission and ninth street. it's not clear how badly the

passenger was hurt. search is on for the attacker. >> stepping up the fight against crime and string of freeway shootings. prg leaders are moving forward with a plan to roll out new surveillance cameras in the hopes of preventing more crime. >> bob redell with more on the $100,000 decision. >> good morning. last night pittsburgh city council voted to spend that money, that $100,000 on new video cameras going up along highway 4. this will be in addition to the extensive surveillance network that is in operation around pittsburgh city streets. this decision comes as there was another shooting along the freeway yesterday afternoon. you see police walking highway 4 looking for evidence after a shootout that started in antioch and ended up on the busy roadway. since november, chp says four people killed in roughly 20

other shootings. these shootings are hard to solve. there aren't many witnesses because many drivers can't hear the gun shots.ç the suspects get away quick because they are driving at highway speeds. law enforcement, city leaders and members of the community hope these new video cameras be installed could help put those shooters in jail. >> to find those people that decide that pittsburgh is the place to be the wild, wild west. >> i have to be honest with you, when i get on the freeway, i'm concerned. my family members are a little concerned. my wife won't take the freeway unless she absolutely has to. >> pittsburgh police will have cameras installed along highway 4 as soon as possible. the city's manager is saying he is going to ask the state to consider paying for a camera system that covers other highways. live outside pittsburgh city

hall, bob redell today in the bay. a trip to the dog groomer ends in tragedy. a san francisco man is under arrest and facing animal cruelty charges after a dog died in his car. he was arrested sunday at pet smart in san mateo. police say when the dog's owner came to pick up the 1-year-old dachshund named henry, he was barely breathing. >> not surprised because two years ago my dog was almost killed and had to have major hip surgery where they cut out his femur head. >> "we are conducting an internal investigation and will take immediate action based on our findings. we are working with local authorities. the individual involved has been placed on suspension pending the outcome of this investigation." happening today, the case against a victim of a widely seen beating by sheriff's deputies comes up in federal

court in san francisco. he faces gun and weapons charges. the alameda county sheriff's deputies who arrested him during that beating last year are facing assault charges. the deputies that chased him into san francisco on report of a stolen vehicle. 5:05. a 15-year veteran of the department has been arrested and charged with overtime fraud. he faces one count of grand theft and four counts defrauding a government agency and is suspended without pay. more fallout for the oakland police department currently wrapped up in a sex scandal. a fourth police officer is on administrative leave. sources tell nbc bay area that several officers had sex with a minor last year. she is now an adult. last friday she posted that her sexual relations with the officers began when she turned 18. internal affairs and prosecutors are refusing to release any

information about the names of the officers involved. changing tones to the campaign trail. voters in two different states, oregon and kentucky, are heading to the polls today to weigh in on the race to the president. there may not be suspension surrounding today's primaries. republicans are only voting in kentucky. donald trump appears to be the last man standing on the gop side. he locked up the nomination. for democrats, hillary clinton has leads in both states. she is telling voters in kentucky she supports coal mining. bernie sanders hopes to rally late in oregon. >> i am not going to let them be left behind. >> i know that we've got an uphill battle. >> sanders is turning his attention to california which votes next week. bay area will soon get a chance to feel the bern. bernie sanders set to make stops in san jose and vallejo tomorrow, holding a rally at the

santa clara fairgrounds at 1:00, then he heads north to water front park for another rally at 7:30. california's high speed rail authority hoping an open house in san jose tonight. planners will give update from the leg of the project that stretches from the south bay to central valley. there will be another open house on thursday. the project stretches from los angeles to san francisco. packed house last night. >> it was, but a disappointing house. live look at oregon el reasona after the team lost their opening game of the conference finals. >> they were not able to protect it. kevin durant and oklahoma city thunder stunning warriors and their fan base. now the team trails in the series the first time since last year's finals. >> what happened. the biggest lead of the first half was a measly 13 points. thunder quickly caught up and

happening today... ==cu== san jose leaders are expected to answer a 6- point-8 million dollar question. ==vo== that's how much money is now owed to san jose's publi happening today, san jose leaders are expecting to answer a $6.8 million question. that is how much money is owed to san jose public libraries for past due items. council members are trying to come up with way to come up with as much of the money as possible without chasing patrons away. did tesla under way about 140 factory workers? according to "mercury news" the answer is yes. the newspaper uncovered alleged labor violation. it reports tesla brought in employees from eastern europe through a third party and paid

them as little as $5 an hour. tesla released a statement after these accusations saying in part, "if the claims are true, tesla will take action to ensure that the right thing happens and that all are treated fairly." more trouble this morning for san francisco's lending club. >> scott mcgrew, a stock you think couldn't go any lower got pummeled again. >> when you're trading less than a grande latte, you're trading low enough. lending club saw its stock fall another 11% in after-hours trading after words that the san francisco company received a subpoena from the justice department and worst, it says it has to start funding its own loans. and yes, that is worse than a subpoena from the justice department. we warned investors this day could come. that the company whose whole business model is lending out other people's money might lose

access to other people's money. for a lender, that is a disaster. speaking of disasters, this candidate from congress from virginia disappeared from the internet. his facebook posts are gone, campaign page is gone after he posted the screen shot to facebook showing what he thought was something innocent. here is a look at that page now where he made the post. all gone. erased. news.com and several outlets saw the post before it disappeared. mike webb from virginia. the primary thing he posted was internet but candidate webb left several other browser tabs open showing what else he was looking at which was naughty videos. you knew that's what it was before i said it. he said he was doing research. >> twitter appointed a new board member, deborah lee. the notable thing about this is that it's twitter's first

golden gilroy garlic fries. mcdonald's has been testing them out at four locations. it was such a hit, all four restaurants ran out of the garlic sauce and sales were put on hold until today. i am the bearer of great news. that is as long as supplies last. supply and demand. >> taking credit for the garlic fries? >> no. i'm taking credit for bringing you the good news. i'm just the messenger. >> also a hit. we'll see more backup dancing moves in a few minutes. the between bee took over levi stadium last night. this is where she was actually about three months ago performing during the super bowl halftime show. if you missed last night's performance because she is so popular, she will be back in september for another show.

peninsula and 55 in san francisco. let's drop in on the east bay now to get a closer look from our weather underground sites. hayward 49. 67 in brentwood and livermore. already a wide range in temperatures. as we break it down from palo alto, 56 at 9:00. it will be 75 and then throughout the day our temperatures ramp up quickly into the low 80s. for tonight for the a's game, it will be nice. temperatures start to come back down. we have 76 at first pitch. by the end of the game 68. to the upper 80s for the south bay. mid 70s for parts of the peninsula and san francisco. low 90s for some of those spots like fairfield, santa rosa, concord and the tri-valley. then we'll have a chance of rain

funny yesterday has a sad ending a story we reported on yesterday we all thought was funny had a very sad ending. perhaps the lesson for anyone thinking about overstepping the rules inside a national park. >> that baby bison we told you about, some visitors at yellowstone believed it needed help. they put the calf in the back of the car because they believed it was cold.

a photo taken last week you see here went viral. now park rangers euthanized the calf because the herd rejected it. >> we made numerous attempts to put that bison back with the herd it came from. that newborn calf kept coming back to the road, kept chasing cars, kept trying to get close to visitors and not to the herd and its mother. >> so sad. the park service is reminding everyone to respect park rules and stay at least 25 yards away from park wildlife. the father and son were trying to help the calf actually ended up with a hefty fine. >> tough lesson to learn. 5:25. >> the washington monument is expected to be back open next hour, but the elevator which had been out of service since saturday morning has now finally been repaired. a spokesperson says the problem was a faulty computer chip on the elevator's control board. the monument has been closed several times over the past few

months because of problems with that same elevators. visitors in april were forced to walk down hundreds of stairs when it stopped working. >>. >> investigative unit exclusive. the government is concerned about toxic chemicals once found in foam firefighters what they use for crash landings. they are finding toxins are getting into our water supply. san francisco and san jose firefighters are using environmentally-friendly foam. for decades, toxic foam was used at airports, water refineries and military bases across the country. the epa asked water public systems to test for the chemicals. they found positive hits in 28 drinking supplies in california. water managers say because toxins are found in the water doesn't mean they pose a health risk.

highs reaching 82 in the east bay. 85 in the peninsula, and 92 in the north bay. tri-valley with the low 90s. i'll talk about that and our temperatures quickly cooling down the rest of the week. let's head over to you. you have a backup on the bay bridge. >> it's right on schedule. no problem through the maze and north bay on the left side of your screen. you're at the limit except for over by the altamont pass. check on east bound 580 slowing and see more popping up again. on the peninsula, a light easy drive out of the silicon valley with headlights coming north on 101. >> 5:31. dog owners outraged after a trip to pet smart turned pajic for a peninsula pet owner. a groomer under arrest facing charges of animal cruelty after a dog died in his care.

>> it's not a mom and pop store. this is a national chain. today in the bay stephanie change outside that store where this allegedly happened. we are told the dog was left bleeding and barely breathing. >> reporter: yeah. very tough details to hear especially for anyone who ever had a dog or pet. this is bringing to light california has no laws regulating pet groomers who can become one or certification. a san mateo man dropped off his 1-year-old dachshund henry at this store sunday afternoon. three minutes later the groomer came out holding the dog which was bleeding from the mouth and despite efforts by an on site vet to save henry, he died a few minutes later. police's rested the man for breaking would ribs and puncturing his lung.

lucy's law would require dog groomers to have certification. law makers voted it down. >> if the groomer is no longer working at that salon, they might be grooming down the street. >> legislation is licensing is not going to do a whole lot. as in any license industry, there is no test for carelessness or stupidity. >> this pet smart released this statement which reads, we are conducting an internal investigation and will take immediate action based on our findings. the store is working with local police in its investigation and their investigation and has also suspended the man pending the outcome of the investigation. stove any chuang today in the bay. gun fire rattles nerves and causes major backups in antioch. authorities briefly closed highway 4 yesterday after they made four arrests.

investigators say it started when someone fired a rifle in a parking lot. the gun fire damaged cars. luckily, it didn't strike people. police say officers later rounded up four suspects traveling in two cars on westbound 4. investigators combed the highway but did not find any evidence of more shots fired. as we take that event in, the city of pittsburgh is taking action in light of the recent rash of highway shootings. >> city leaders are moving forward with a plan to install cameras along highway 4. >> the plan will cost $100,000 for a network of cameras. last week a mother of 4 was killed in a shooting on highway 4. >> when i get on the freeway, i'm concerned. my family members are a little concerned. my wife won't take the freeway unless she has to. >> pittsburgh police say that criminals all too often try to use highway 4 to evade police. at this point, the highway is not equipped with cameras

through pittsburgh, but are trying to put them in as soon as possible. >> pittsburgh leaders addressed a controversy over crime statistics. a former officer claims the police department manipulated those stats to make the crime rate appear lower. city council says it will support the chief and the department until an investigation is complete. the d.a. and sheriff's office are looking into the claims. >> two men face charges in connection with the murder of a man outside a san jose night club. the two men are suspected of shooting a man back in october. this happened outside of the lou beer club and restaurant on monterey highway. that case is still under investigation and they hope more people will come forward with information about what happened that night. new details on a gruesome discovery at a concord park. police hunting for eric nelson and say he is considered armed

and dangerous. he may be linked to the discovery of a woman's body found yesterday morning. the victim was found laying among the shorelines at the park's pond. investigators say the victim and her accused killer knew each other. 5:36. santa clara police need help tracking down two burglars. it happened at joe's chinese fast food on great america parkway. the suspects break a glass door and walk in. the break-in happened april 21st. police are just releasing this surveillance video to us so we can show it to you. fairly sweeping changes happening today. santa clara leaders considering options to create new fair backgrounds that include a new community park, sports complex and maybe a performing arts venue. there are many possibilities still on the table. today the county is holding an

open house to speak with potential investors and businesses who might be interested developing that project. legislation expected to be introduced to close a loophole in san francisco's rent control law. city supervisor scott weiner is making this proposal. he came up with it after hearing about a 59-year-old man with the virus that causes aids. the man's landlord demanded 175% rent increase. the program that helps him with the rental voucher couldn't and wouldn't cover that increase. weiner says those under the assistance program need to be included under san francisco's rent control laws. 5:37, the sun is coming up. enjoy the cool while you can this morning. the sign of things to come. >> good morning. yes this morning will be the time to get yard work done or if you have to get something done outside, it's going to be hot later on today.

let's get a look at some of the headlines and what to expect as we take a live look at san jose. a mild morning and clear sunzire. it quickly warms up with more sunshine. highs today will be anywhere from 75 from the coast to 94 for those inland temperatures. it will stay clear this evening with sunset at 8:12. overall a quiet but hot day. we'll see it tomorrow. then a cooldown in time for the weekend. i'll detail in my next microclimate forecast. mike is checking in on livermore. >> we had earlier slowing 580. not here. we have a smooth drive at the dublin interchange. it was heading east out of livermore. we still have that slowing which popped up once again. i thought the pavement work did clear. caltrans did not give the all-clear and there is slowing once again. we'll track that mild flowing and mild flowing out of the

house. >> he could win oregon today. hillary clinton was up by only five points. he is hoping to be competitive there. he is trying to win coal country that was an easy win for her. her energy policies have miners concerned about their jobs. she is still way ahead in terms of the delegate count. she would be hundreds of delegates ahead. california will be the real game-changer. both she and donald trump are now focused on the primaries and on the fall, the fall campaign, the debates. trump said his people have told nbc he is going to be focusing on hillary clinton, first of all her e-mails. we'll hear that come up again, her character and her response to her husband's infidelities

which democrats don't think should be on the table at all. >> thank you very much, tracie potts live from washington. 5:44. u.s. supreme court sending a challenge back to obamacare to a lower court. it asked an appeals court to reconsider both party's arguments. they are trying to get the affordable care out thrown out over a provision dealing with contraception. they argue their rights are being violated. obama is defending a law say a group's religious freedom does not include the right to restrict access to health care for employees. nearly half of those who suffer heart attacks don't know it. researchers in north carolina say out of 700 people they track have experienced heart attacks, 45% were not aware they had a heart attack. the big issue researchers say is heart attacks don't always come with classic symptoms of chest pain and shortness of breath. you can experience them any way. a new stanford university

study reveals why children are comforted by their mother's voice. children responded more strongly to the sound of their mother in areas of the brain linked to emotion, reward, face recognition than to a stranger's voice. children who show the strongest connection have better social ability. that would make sense than a stranger. >> that would be weird if it were the other way around. we are recognizing trouble for uber and its settlement with drivers. one plaintiff says drivers are not getting enough cash from this lawsuit. >> scott that driver is special. >> yes. we thought this class action lawsuit was over. uber paying out millions, drivers agreeing they'll remain contract workers not employees. a driver named douglas o'connor says he is not satisfied. he is notable because it's his name on the lawsuit. he is the lead plaintiff. it's not clear if he can stop the progress of the settlement

of the lawsuit at this point. uber settled its case with drivers in california and massachusetts. the question whether drivers are employees or contractors was very important. had drivers been classified as employees, ub core have owed them millions of dollars and pay their gas money. >> pandora is the latest company to be pressured by activist investors. a group bought up lots of pandora stock and sent a letter to pandora's board saying it is time to sell the company. you may recall yahoo came under similar pressure from a different corporate raider. we were talking earlier about twitter's newest board member appointed monday. deborah lee and twitter's first african-american woman director. she also uses twitter.

lee has more than 7,000 tweets, marco lane nearly 18,000 tweets. twitter's first woman board member, 22 tweets. most of those are retweets. hugh johnson, 15 tweets. seven of them are retweets. last time he tweeted was late last month. as we were talking earlier, doesn't mean they shouldn't be good in business but if you are on the board of a company you should probably use the product more than seven times in your life. >> right.

so is today in the bay's kris sanchez this morning. how early do they start serving them up hot there? >> we haven't smelled the garlic cooking. a lot of people left with their mouths watering after the first trial run. had to be stopped because demand outpaced the supply of that iconic gilroy garlic. so many people ordered up the fries with the gilroy garlic puree, olive oil, parmesan cheese and particlesy the trial run was cut short after two weeks. that begins again today with greater supply. it's an attempt to tap into regional flavors. that location at least seven times over just three years. but you won't find all those violations on the city's website. here's why. over the years, the restaurant filed paperwork with the city to change ownership. the city says by law that change in ownership requires that a restaurant's old inspection report be removed from the website. we discovered even when new owners of the companies were listed, they still worked for the same corporation. later, when a new corporation was listed, the people in charge of that corporation were the same owners listed before. even though the restaurant's own sign says all seasons, that name does not exist any more on the city's data base. the restaurant changed its nape name to harbor villa more than a year ago. the city's website says it's been shut down twice instead of seven times. the restaurant's current owners did not want to comment on our
