chaotic scene that ended with three people shot, including one that may have been shot by a police officer. it all unfolded about 9:00 p.m. on kingsley drive, witnesses say at least five gunshots were fired amongst a group of people. the police source tells the time the officer on the scene actually shot one of those people. again, in all, all three people were taken to the hospital and all are expected to survive. so far, there is no word on arrests. this morning, feelings of shock and sadness at an east bay high school after a football player collapsed during a conditioning exercise on the field and later died in the hospital. >> bob redell is live at encino high school where it all happened. bob with the grief counsellors will be there to help people cope with the tragedy. >> reporter: good morning, lauren, sam, the high school sent out a note to let them know professionals will be here to help staff and students talk

through happened here yesterday. the principal is asking for the students to lend each other support during the typical time. it was yesterday evening one of the school's football players collapsed at the end of conditioning. staff immediately called 911 and attended to him. he was transported to highland hospital, where he was declared dead. it's not clear if this workout took place indoors or outdoors or if yesterday's high temps could have had any impact on the scene, itself. reporting live here in alameda, bob redem, "today in the bay." it was a four-hour south bay standoff that ended with a flurry of flash bangs and pepper spray. the dramatic sequence that happened on a gate drive in santa clara last night. near wilcox high school. it all started with a knife attack about 7:00 at night, police say the 57-year-old stabbed a neighbor of his in his apartment building and other neighbors came running out of

their homes after they heard the noise. >> he came at me with a knife. the kid were behind me. i didn't know what to do. i just making them go back, back, back. >> the suspect ended up barricading himself in his own apartment following the stabbing after hours of negotiation. a s.w.a.t. team eventually moved in and used flag bangs and pepper glass to coach him out of the building. the stabbing victim is hospitalized and is expected to be okay. the family of a missing millbrae father confirms he was found dead. his body was found last wednesday in sonoma. he was seen april 28. the next day a hiker found his cell phone at golden gate park. there is no word on how he died. there is still no sign of a missing two-year-old. now, police are hoping you can

help. no one has seen arian fitts since february. the fbi and family and friends will announce a reward this afternoon. the video of opening more call navigation centers in san francisco to help the homeless population is reportedly now being put on the back burner. the chronicle reports to supervisors yesterday the latest vote requiring the city to open a half dozen centers over the next two years. one navigation center already exists for the mission. it allows homeless people to bring in all kind of belongings, including a pet, until they can find permanent housing. supervisors may vote on a plan next month. >> two more states weigh in on the race for president. primaries were held yesterday in oregon and kentucky. but there is stale little uncertainty about one race. republicans in oregon voted for donald trump, leaving him 81 zel gather away from officially grabbing that nomination.

democrats in oregon chose bernie sanders. sanders still needs 800 delegates to steal the nomination from hillary clinton. in kentucky, nbc news is calling hillary clinton the apparent winner, in kentucky, clinton was less than 100 delegates from clinching the nomination. >> i a him the only candidate, the only candidate with a plan, a $30 billion plan to help coal country. >> kentucky republicans did not go to the country. they voted back in march. despite that delegate gap, bernie sanders is pressing forward. he's here in the bay area, holding two rallies. >> it is huge victories at this point to try to make up that gap. crews here spent last night setting up the villejo water front. the santa clara fairgrounds is also gearing up for a similar event. those are the two locations. the democratic hopeful is stumping for votes.

many are asking why he picked san jose and villejo. >> we are looking for people who are perhaps blue collar workers, who are disanexted from the main stream party, whom he thinks he can captured. >> villejo is the bay area's hottest real estate market. the people here care about each other. >> all right. so he's trying to mobilize votes there. sanders organizers say they expect the rally to be filled to capacity. some estimate a crowd of 10 to 18,000 people in toll. we always get a big crowd at oracle arena, that's for sure, cheering on our warriors, they are dropping the western conference finals to oklahoma city thunder. they say they're breaking the unfamiliar position of the playoffs. >> after the game, he smiled, he said, we haven't been here before. yeah, i know, i like this.

now. we're taking a look at san jose, getting ready for the sharks to come back home tomorrow night. today, we are still sizzling in this very warm air. we break it down for palo alto. at 9:00, we're at 67 degrees, into the upper 70s by lunchtime, hitting the low '80s there. we detect a little of a break in san francisco and the warriors game this evening. we'll be at 70 degrees, winds in from the northwest at 10 to 15 miles an hour. over the next three days, our temperatures go from the '80s today in the south bay, 68 degrees on friday, a big drop in the peninsula, more drives moving in. a look now at san francisco as our temperatures continue to drop. in the north bay, we'll have a chance of rain late on friday. we go from 87 today to 68 degrees on friday and the east bay also a big drop in those temperatures into the mid-60s. tri-valley also from 90 today

into the 60s. so if you are making plans outdoors this weekend, keep in mind that it will be very cool. many of us will struggle to make it out of the 60s and we'll pass scattered showers, this model shows that we will have a pretty good coverage of some rain this afternoon. it could bring about a tenth of an inch of rain. small possibility that we could get a little more up to a quarter of an inch. most of the models showing a tenth of an inch of rain all across the bay area. as we look ahead to the weekend. once again, a soggy saturday at tiles, won't rain the entire time. sunday clears out, with a small boost in those temperatures. let's head over to mike now, checking out the san mateo bridge. >> kari, we're looking at a nice drive, what's down away from us moves very well as we look over towards the other side, you see it coming across, on the right, jump off and take that into the commute. we have a nice evening drive, look at this cluster. we see that coming through.

northeast of sacramento. a small, private e >> an investigation is under way into how two planes collided in an airport in nevada city northeast of sacramento. a small private plane making a hard landing crashed into another plane near the runway bursting into flames. the pilot made a hard landing and was injured and was taken to a nearby hospital with burns. new details on a raging fire outside of sacramento, it started as a grass fire yesterday, it quickly spread to a nearby special area. near the thunder valley casino, northeast of sacramento, right by roseville, fire fighters say that it's 50% contained and no longer spreading. that itself the good news, the flames hit a delivery truck.

arrests. decision 2016, a split night for the democrats last night, bernie sanders pulling out a win in on the ground as hillary clinton, it appears narrowly won in kentucky, 47-46. adding to her already large delegate count if those results hold, clinton is now just 92 delegates away from clinching the democratic nomination. but despite this delegate gap, bernie sanders is pressing forward here in california with two stops in the bay area. today the bay stephanie chung is live in the bay. good morning. >> reporter: good morning the bernie sanders camp expecting thousands here at the fairgrounds, the doors here opening at 10:00 this morning, as sam mentioned, bernie sanders holding a rally in carson, where he learned he won the oregon primary, declaring, quote, he is getting to like the west coast. he also said democratic rally rival hillary clinton's victory in couple's primary was narrow,

noting they essentially split delegates in a state where she handily won if 2006. sanders promising to go all the way to the convention, has his eyes on california, with 548 delegates the biggest prize of any state, political analyst, bernie sanders says it's the last stop. >> he knows he doesn't have enough pledge delegates to stop hillary clinton, but if he can gather to a stand still to make it so the super delegates have to make the difference. that's what he hopes for. >> reporter: now, crews spent hours yesterday setting up at the water front for tonight's campaign rally at 7:30. doors open at 4:00. the question is why san jose? why villejo? one thought is sanders is targeting both democrats and independents who are blue collar workers and who might not feel a

demonstrators. shock and sadness in the east bay after a football player di died. he later passed away. investigators aren't releasing the players's identity or how he died. >> they said there will be grief counsellors on campus today. in the meantime, a security guard is behind bars accused of animal cruelty in san francisco. police say charles moore was on duty at this safeway on 16th street. he got into a confrontation with a man who had a chihuahua with him. hess caught on store under surveillance camera kicking that dog twice. the dog ran from the attack and was struck and killed by a car. former security guard is being charged with felony animal cruelty and misdemeanor battery. two people accused in a large scale sex trafficking race, bailsed in the east bay are scheduled to be arraigned today, james joseph, jr. and a woman operated a sex trafficking ring spanning several states.

investigators believe it was centered in san ro money. the pair was arrested last august along with a third suspect. that suspect not scheduled to appear if court today. a man and a woman have both been hospitalized in san rafael after they were hit by a car while they were walking through a crosswalk. this happened near dominican university on lincoln avenue by grant. officers say the driver struck that couple about 6:00 last night and there is no word on the extent of tear injuries. police are hoping to add high-tech tools to their crime fighting ars nam. they are requesting a half a million to install license plate readers along the interstate 580 exit in dublin. they are hoping to equip patrol cars with mobile readers. police say in march the number of home burglaries doubled. some people question the added layer of under surveillance. >> i do valuepy privacy and so i'm just a little concerned about that. >> that's not all. government authorities are requesting do tap into private home under surveillance footage.

they are done in some other bay area cities. sharpening our water policy as the drought is still an issue in california. later today, state regulators are taking action on a long-term plan to save water. right now, we are under a mandatory water rationing. >> that is seen as a blunt short-term wave dealing with the drought. regulators are scheduled to vote on a longer term three-year plan, one that would require three water actions to assess how much water they have. how much can be used t. state would then monitor each individual agency. it is 5:37 right now. the feds are concerned california faces another devastating fire chief. so they're step income with money and man power to help. $30 million is being made available. they are used to clear trees from national forests. federal experts said yesterday, the winter's wet weather really helps only in the northern part of our state. southern california remain mostly dry. four years of drought have killed an estimated 40 million

lax at the time of the shooting in 20-12. the theater has no armed guards and security was lax at the time of the shooting in 2012. a dozen people died, 70 more were injured, the shooter, james holmes is serving multiple life terms. a state grand jury has indicted the pipeline company responsible for last year's massive oil spill near santa barbara. they spilled 150,000 gallons of crude oil washing out into the ocean. the pipeline says no criminal acts were committed. the company is now facing nearly $3 million in fines and penalties. an investigative unit this morning, airports on standby in case there is a crash. now the government is concerned about some contaminants, one found in firefighting foam. our investigative unit explains where those chemicals are still

ending up. >> good morning, foam is a powerful tool to fight tire, airports use it, the military bases like the one in this photo. toxic chemicals have been phased out, they use the environmentally friendly kind, for decades, foam was made up of toxic chemicals. they have been linked to cancer, now the military is testing for contamination around its bases, 55 are in california. the e is requiring public water systems to test for the contaminants. we analyze agency data and found hits in 28 drinking water supplies in california. that's more than any other state. pleasanton reported two low level detections in 2013 and 2014. officials there say they don't believe there is a health risk. the e calls the emerging contaminants, it plans to issue a new health advisory for the summer. it's only a guide. as we learned, the e doesn't
