a disappointment in the run for the stanley cup championship. good evening. >> thanks for joining us. if you stuck around long enough to see the end a couple moments ago you are a sharks fan. we have team coverage of the painful loss. >> let's start with fallon smith live in the studio. a small comeback, too late. >> yeah. a little too late. the sharks dominated the previous two games, outscoring st. louis, 7-0 with martin jones recording two straight shutouts. the team we saw in those games wasn't the same team that showed up to the sap center. game four sharks lead 4-1. martin jones had not allowed a goal but it was snapped in the first series. st. louis pounced on san jose early, scored two goals over four minutes apart. and then in the second, kyle met

his goals, one of them short handed and the sharks would score but the blues go on to win, 6-3. and even the series at two games apiece. now we'll have much more later in sports. including reaction from the team following the game four loss. for now back to you. >> thanks so much. our team coverage continues with nbc bay area's robert honda outside of the sap center. fans begin to stream out. >> reporter: you know, the sharks have been playing pretty well at home in the playoffs. as you may know, that hasn't been the case throughout the season. that early regular season trend picked up today. fans had braved the rain, to pack the shark tank to see a downpour from the blues. i can say the sharks did play hard but got behind early and never really got going. and fans we talked to tried to keep up their optimistic

in antioch dozens are displaced after a fire. for many it was a terrifying scene. christie smith has the latest on this fire and the aftermath. >> reporter: residents describe a frightening scene. there was a rush to get out, a few tell us they lost everything and for now no one can stay here. just after 7:00 this morning as many slept, smoke and flames forced neighbors out of apartments. >> flames, everywhere. next to the balcony, by us, and i couldn't believe it. like bright flames. >> reporter: at lone tree meadow apartments where neighbors made it out some with the help of a person as it jumped to two alarms. >> there was a passerby that came by and started knocking on doors to get people out. >> reporter: firefighters say one juvenile was treated for

smoke inhalation. six units were damaged in the building, 34 people displaced. >> everything is gone. i'm so sad. because it's all my stuff. my kids belongings. >> reporter: for veronica another painful loss. >> my rabbits died in there. >> reporter: others held their pets close as firefighters knocked down the flames. >> we ran through the house, get up, get up. >> it was amazing how it happened so fast. >> reporter: we're told a dog died in the fire and the red cross is helping the displaced residents. christie smith, nbc bay area news. >> people lost their pets. in oakland firefighters battling this large fire that gutted several businesses. it happened after 1:00 in the morning, this is near the intersection of mccarther avenue and 73rd street. it began in a store and spread

quickly. as many as seven businesses were destroyed. no injuries though. winds in the bay area likely helping to fuel the fires, take a look at the scene from our tower camera in fremont. you see the flags are blowing, not terribly strong. the weather story was the rain. rob is in the weather center with a look at the showers moving across the bay area. >> still breezy conditions, seeing that for a couple days, cool 59 degrees in livermore. you see the altamont pass, the wind mills enjoying the breeze. and winds for 10 to 20 across the bay area, some gusts close to 35 miles per hour. we've had a few showers today but most of that has started to shut down. we did see rain around san jose. most locations less than .05 inch of rain. enough to come down but look at the sierra, still snow showers, winter-like conditions in the high country at this hour. right now 50s and 60s outside. looks likes as we head into tomorrow morning still a chance of showers and look at the

fies fiesta. the group gaining nation wide recognition following a 17-day hunger strike calling on the then police chief to step down. the strike was in response to a series of deadly officer-involved shootings around the city. he was asked to resign by the mayor on thursday after yet another one. >>because they knew if they didn't do something they would have real trouble. >> reporter: the group wants the mayor ed lee to step down and are helping with recall efforts. >> he's a coward for never talk to us. we asked to talk to him. >> reporter: they appreciate the honor but are already looking ahead. >> i don't think that we deserve to be honored but what we did was what any good human being would do in order to bring justice and stop the murders. >> reporter: the five plan to move forward in fact they like to see the officers involved shootings eventually go to trial, they are also hoping to get a meeting with the new police chief in the future.

we do have developing news out of the pentagon. the senior defense officials telling nbc news that a taliban chief seen here was targeted by u.s. air strike today. this happened along the afghanistan/pakistan border. officials working to confirm if the top terror leader was killed. this air strike was authorized by president obama, the senior defense official says there was no collateral damage, means no civilians were killed in the strike. coming up next, on the move from an old hospital building to the new hospital building. a delicate procedure of moving patients today in san francisco. a makeover at apple. why large crowds were filing into the apple store. >> and maintenance issues at oakland coliseum, the unpleasant surprise the yankees got in the dugout during the game against the a's. about 160 patients at san

francisco general made a delicate move today. about 160 patients at san francisco general hospital made a delicate move today. after nearly eight years in the making the hospital's new facility is fully operational. patients were loaded on gurnees for the trip across the bridge connecting the buildings. the new hospital is named the san francisco general hospital and trauma center, which is a lot they call it the zsfg for short. it has a lot of features. the old building does not. >> we have 13 operating rooms, in the old building we had 10 so that can help. we have more critical care rooms in this hospital. the technology is very patient centered. it's overall a hospital for the 21st century for san francisco. >> wondering about the name because zuckerberg donated $75 million for this project.

>> another milestone for apple, the company opened its newest store in down town san francisco, the huge 23-foot glass doors opened. it's a beautiful store. if the you wonder where it is, this is where the old levi store was. apple also revealed the plaza, it's open to the public all day long with wi-fi, a 50-foot green wall and performances. customers apreeshed this addition to union square. >> i think that that's exactly what union square needs, where something from the future. this is the future. >> the store is also powered by 100% renewable energy. big matchup in baseball. a look at the oakland coliseum. the a's took on the new york yankees, and the a's may have been trying to put a hex on new york. at least a hex. before the start of the game there were plumbing issues in the visitors' dugout.

several spent an hour trying to fix a backed up toilet. remember the mess. this is the kind of thing that happened before. we've seen it. it didn't phase the yankees, beating the a's 5-1. >> tough to report on that much less be there. >> it's after dinner for most. it's okay to do. >> good point. thanks. right now rob has that microclimate forecast. a few raindrops. >> we did and temperatures well below where they should be for this time of year. you can see the temperatures here hour by hour, san francisco and san jose, san jose's average is 76 and throughout the day low 60s, passing showers at times. and san francisco average high is 64. so at least san francisco running closer to average right now we've got clearing skies around the bay area but the winds coming in off the ocean keeping temperatures cool, upper 50s and low 60s. wind speeds are starting to come down a bit. of course last 24 hours we've seen wind gusts above 45 miles per hour around the hills of the east bay and the coast we're going to look at cool and breezy

conditions through the weekend. but wind speeds not as strong as yesterday. it's the scattered showers starting to shut down. a few more out in napa and lake county. those two starting to move to the east. you can see on the regional view, a lot of snow in the sierra, freezing levels unusually low. about 5500 feet. that's good enough for snow at times. winter-like variety will continue in the high country, check this out, through 8:00 tonight you got snow showers around south lake tahoe hour by hour, if you head to the high country morning temperatures 20s and 30s. during the afternoon upper 40s for highs around south lake tahoe. reno about 63 degrees tomorrow afternoon. the bay area, starting off with partly cloudy skies, and still at least a chance of a few more scattered showers. the upper low giving us this cool and unsettled air over the bay area is going to stick around at least through sunday. so breezy and cool around the coast and bay, but the mix of clouds and sunshine and still that slight chance of seeing a

few more showers for the end of the weekend. right now looks like the peninsula south bay and east bay hills have the best chance finding a few raindrops at times tomorrow. if you head to the coast, cool day, you can see the winds coming in off the ocean keeping temperatures like we saw today, again in the same range tomorrow. upper 50s to mid-60s out at the beaches. san jose tomorrow, close to 70 degrees, but again, these numbers 5 to 10 degrees below where they should be for this time of year. you can see san francisco at 60 degrees tomorrow, close to 70 in santa rosa, and around the tri-valley highs in the upper 60s to low 70s. this is the pattern responsible for the cool weather we're seeing now and another low drops in for the first half of next week, so the extended forecast shaping up cooler than average. maybe not so much for san francisco, but the low to mid-60s, but check out san jose, the numbers that should be in mid-70s, it's going to take all week maybe till about thursday before the temperatures rebound and in the tri-valley a spot that sees mid 70s, it's not in the forecast. we're going to say locked in this cool pattern and right now

bid to be horse racing's second triple crown winner in two years. cherry wine in second and nyquist third. the races started on a somber note when two horses died after the preliminary races. home boy chris died of an apparent heart attack moments after having his picture taken, following the win on the first race of the day. and then a short time later a second horse had to be euthanized on the track after breaking his leg. >> a giant orange space shuttle fuel tank moving through the streets of los angeles. the 65,000-pound is on the way to the california science center. it will be displayed with the space shuttle "endeavour." crews began moving it after midnight but can only go five miles an hour. the average speed of cars during most times in los angeles. >> on the 101. >> 16-mile journey expected to take 18 hours.

waiting for the san jose sharks, to square off against the st. louis blues. i'll tell you no group was more in need of this playoff atmosphere than this family, the foley family members from canada. they were the special guests of the sharks, and the family, big fans of the sharks, they lost their home to the wild fires raging through fort mcmurray, alberta. the only thing they were able to salvage were four prize sharks jerseys including one of owe win nolan. the sharks heard about it and invited them to the game. >> we were at our lowest low when it was confirmed that our house was gone. and then we get a call from doug wilson and just lifted our spirits, gave us something to look forward to. and it's been really -- he has been a sharks fan for as long as i can remember. and as a mom that's all you can hope for is you know, your kids to be happy. yeah, i'm very proud.

>> reporter: now, as a bonus the sharks arranged for nolan to greet the family before billy and his brother got to ride the zambonis. the family expressed gratitude to the sharks and the public for helping the family and the community, and they know they still have got a very tough road ahead. robert handa, nbc bay area news. >> thank you. to developing news out of the south bay, police are looking into a possible homicide. police received a call about a body discovered last night. investigators say a man was found dead near sunny court. this is close to where highway 101 meets interstate 680, no word yet on how the person died or his identity. a san francisco from is wetting a settlement to avoid going to court. the woman filed a suit last year claiming she was badly injured by b.a.r.t. police at the station back in 2014.

b.a.r.t. police say megan was drunk and argumentative with officers who found her on a bench in the station. she says during her arrest an officer beat her, breaking bones in her face and left her bloody. video appears to support her claims. b.a.r.t. has accepted responsibility and making sure similar incidents don't happen in the future. days after the resignation of former police chief greg sir, they went on a hunger strike they were honored in a cultural festival in san francisco. the annual fiesta is a celebration of filipino food and culture. organizers lauded the group that gave recognition following the strike calling on the police chief to step down. the strike in response to high profile deadly officer involved shootings. he was asked to resign by mayor lee.

>> the former president did not mention the increasing criticism coming from clinton's democratic rival bernie sanders, he did take a couple of swipes at republican front-runner donna tetreault, however, calling some of his plans destructive to the idea of what it means to be an american. bill clinton is due to hold a rally for hillary in fresno on monday. mrs. clinton will be in actorton on monday for a fund-raiser. >> both trump and clinton are reaching out to a demographic they need. latinos. the two retaped speeches played at the christian leadership conference yesterday trump promised latino voters he is on their side while clinton slammed trump's stance on immigration. >> national hispanic christian, three great words. we're going to take care of you, we're going to work with you, going to be very happy you're going to like president trump. >> we have a candidate who wants to tear families apart, and forcibly deport 11 million

undocumented immigrants. who calls mexicans racist, who talks about banning muslims from entering the country. that is not who we are as a people. you can always count on me to fight for you, your congregants and your communities. >> the fox news latino poll released yesterday shows 62% of hispanics would vote for clinton if the election was today. 23% favor trump. bernie sanders back in california. the democratic hopeful is in san diego for a rally and several events throughout the next few days. he trails clinton in polls of california democrats but has two weeks to try to change that. 275 delegates, clinton needs 90 more to clinch the nomination. even if that happens, sanders is promising to stay in the race until the democratic convention in philadelphia in july. well, still ahead debris recovered from the egyptairliner

some of the debris recovered from the egyptair flight c our first look at some of the debris recovered from the egyptair crash, that crashed in the mediterranean. 60 people were on board. few clues about the cause other than a data reports that smoke was in the plane before it went down. now the latest on the investigation taking place in cairo. >> reporter: the egyptian military released video and still pictures of the debris it says it recovered. some of the images that have been released show personal belongings, some of the material recovered clearly had egypt air logos all over it. the strongest indication yet that debris belongs to the missing flight. meanwhile, egyptair announced that it's going to be holding a memorial service for the pilots

as well as the flight attendant crew working that flight. they have announced that they are bringing in a foreign expert to help with the identification process, they are going to be gathering samples, dna, from both the surviving family members as well as the remains recovered to try to help with the identification of all the victims on board that flight. we are learning more about some of those passengers that were on board ms 804. some of the crew, man was a man, we learned of a canadian national who left her three children here behind in cairo while she was on a trip to france. in terms of the investigation, authorities have not made comments whether they are honing in on the black box. all that exists in the public space is the information from the acars report coming from outside of egypt, not officially from the egyptian government or

military. new detai about the man shot after he walked up to a white house checkpoint yesterday holding a gun. washington, d.c. police identified him as 30-year-old jesse ollie vera from a community called ashland, a community still in disbelief. >> the last thing that you would think of would be somebody from the oliviera, even close remotely concerned with that. >> according to the secret service he ignored orders to drop the weapon and he didn't, an officer shot him. he is in critical condition. no one else injured. police continue to investigate but say it appears to be attempted suicide by cop. in other words, to entice the officers to shoot at him and therefore take his life. he wanted to die. that's what they say. checking in with rob, talking about the microclimate forecast. all i heard is it's going to be cold. >> yes.

still cool and breezy around the bay area. this gives you an idea what the temperatures should be like for san jose afternoon highs should be closer to 76 degrees, san francisco 64, as we move through the day same sky condition, passing showers, partly cloudy. san francisco staying in the 60s, but even san jose we had numbers today in the low to mid-60s for highs. so, the cloud cover passing showers and strong push of cooler air off the ocean keeping our temperatures down. breezy around oakland, 62, a wind out of the west at 12 over the san francisco, also 62 degrees, late day sunshine. not bad out there but jacket weather if you're going to head around the golden gate bridge with winds west at 17. san who stay, 623s, all locations 62 degrees now. typically this time of year we get our microclimates to work. not the case today. speaking of the south bay we had a few spots pick up a quarter temperature of rain. santa clara, los gatos, we had a

brief downpour or two which moved through but notice the difference not that far away. sunnyvale not that far, under .05 inch of rain and silver creek valley, nothing. so widely scattered. and some of the east bay rain totals, danville a quarter inch, dublin not so much. so hit and miss with these isolated showers which could drop briefly, good downpours, most of the action on the radar moved to the east. north bay starting to clear out for the sierra still snow showers occurring around lake tahoe. tomorrow some clearing and cool start. you would not expect to see that in may. upper 20s to start tomorrow morning for parts of the sierra. the bay area a few more scattered showers for tomorrow morning, and possibly into the afternoon for the south bay hills and around the north bay. not much change from what we saw today with highs in the mid-60s across most of the bay area. there is still that chance around the east bay and south bay to see a few more showers

briefly wetting the ground for your sunday. the breeze is strongly on shore. we'll see temperatures in the 50s and 60s out on the coast. during the day tomorrow. so a cool day, if you are going to head to the shore for tomorrow, upper 60s around san jose, near 60 in san francisco, with 60s and 70s from the north bay over to the tri-valley, for the end of the weekend and the start of next week. also looks fairly cool. another area of low pressure is going to drop in which is going to reinforce the cooler than average temperatures so you see san francisco not changing a lot. but more interesting are the numbers for san jose and the tri-valley. should see mid 70s, thursday into friday might get closer to seeing the numbers and you can see dublin, temperatures below average for the first half of the week. in fact as we head into next weekend, the start of memorial day weekend, temperatures staying below average. as we head to sunday and memorial day, now we're going to 8 to 9 days out, to see 70s and 80s back in the forecast. so the cool pattern is going to last through the weekend, likely

restaurant owners. that may now be hurting restaurant customers. dining out in san francisco is more than just gluten free menus and hard to get reservations. it's also a hobby, a weekly one for foodie tommy, he enjoys strolling through the city to find his next favorite spot. there was one restaurant that still leaves him with a bad taste in his mouth. >> if this can happen to me it can to anybody. >> he stopped by the all season restaurant in the diamond heights neighborhood. it wasn't long before he lost his appetite. he says it started with a pot of tea. >> drink cups, then i see a little thing moving in there. it's a little small -- >>tommy's story echoes what health inspectors caught on camera at the restaurant time and time again. records reveal repeated high risk violations, and unsanitary

conditions including at least four cockroach investtations. they found them on top of what were supposed to be clean utensils and plates. violation records we obtained show the city ordered the restaurant at this location to shut down at least seven times in just three years. >> why would the city allow to the keep reopening? >> because it is a due process. we have a process they have to go through. >> stephanie had san francisco's department of environmental health which oversees inspections for 7400 permanent restaurants and caterers in san francisco. the city only has 30 field inspectors. curbing says if a restaurant is forced to close because of health violations her team requires employees at the restaurant to undergo training and make visible improvements to reopen. >> we are trying to break that cycle with them. >> you may be trying. it doesn't seem to be working. >> again we have to go through the process, build the case.

this place may be close again. >> our investigation led us to a bigger discovery. a little known loophole that allows restaurants across san francisco to wipe clean some of their dirtiest secrets. city's website consumers can look up a restaurant's inspection history. but we discovered those violation records can essentially be removed so you can't see them on line. take all season restaurant. that's long been the name on the sign, the restaurant changed its name on city documents to harbor villa more than a year ago and ownership also changed on city paperwork. by law the city says that change in ownership requires that a restaurant's old inspection records be removed from the city's website. in 2014, the restaurant listed brand new owner. but those owners still worked for the same corporation. and last year there was new ownership again. this time the corporation name did change from sd chew

incorporated to sc lang. the two officers of the corporation stayed exactly the same. >> if the city knew it's the same people running that restaurant, why would it allow it to be able to wipe away their history of violation. >> if i owned a restaurant and you bought it, should my poor history follow you? >> but these aren't different owners. >> but the incorporation is different. >> wouldn't you want to know if you were to eat at a restaurant considered so dirty the city was forced to shut it down? >> i think the majority of people in san francisco don't think about those things. >> the city's website says the restaurant was only forced to close twice instead of seven times. but to find those violations you have to search for harbor villa, even though the own sign says all season, that name doesn't even exist anymore on the city's data base.

the restaurant's current owners did not want to comment on our story. >> do you have any idea how many other restaurants may be taking advantage of this loophole? >> many restaurants do. >> we showed our findings to san francisco's supervisor jane kim who chairs the board's committee on public safety. >> since nbc has alerted us to this loophole our office is going to work with the department of public health to create more specific rules. you shouldn't be able to wipe them out paying a couple hundred in fees to change your company name. >> but for now it remains a loophole one that tommy believes is pretty hard to swallow. >> i'm getting worried. i mean, if one can do that, who knows how many more can be like that. >> according to the city, you can still get the last five years worth of violation records for any restaurant, regardless of ownership changes, by submitting a public records request to city government. that of course can take days.
