east shore freeway not looking bad. slowing for the tri-valley for pleasanton in toward fremont. south of the dunbarton bridge. let's give you a live look. you see headlights heading southbound. >> happening later today, after several delays, the trial for the man accused of kidnapping and killing sierra lamar could begin this morning. >> kris sanchez live in san jose. the trial is supposed to start today, we understand there could be another push back. >> right. to give you a frame of reference, this case has been on the court calendar 16 times since the beginning of the year. the trial has not even started yet. take a brief look at the timeline. march 2012 is when sierra lamar disappeared. it was almost 1 1/2 years later

ant olin garcia-torres was arrested. here we are in april 2016 and the latest delay had to do with a request for more time for evidence. antolin garcia-torres is 25 years old. he faces the death penalty if convicted of kidnapping and killing sierra lamar. lamar told us he knew seeking the death penalty might mean a longer wait but felt it was important for his daughter. today we could see a delay because one of those attorneys is handling another trial. this case had a long list of delays. many having to do with evidence, which is to be expected when dealing with capital punishment trials. >> thank you very much. new this morning, aç dramatic rescue at the scene of a two-story house fire that

heavily damaged an east bay home. this started around 3:40 this morning in antioch. firefighters arrived to find a woman trapped on the roof of that house. she managed to get to the ground after firefighters turned over garbage cans. they had the fire under control in 30 minutes and no one was injured. the home did suffer major damage. a young boy not as fortunate. a young boy died. two more people recovering after a house fire in vallejo over the weekend. firefighters arrived at this home yesterday morning where they were able to pull out two of the residents and get them to a nearby hospital. a 5-year-old child did not make it out alive. the neighbor who called 911 sprung into action when she saw what was happening. >> took the hose and went in the building.

>> that neighbor was able to hose down one burn victim. that fire is considered suspicious. the cause of the fire is under investigation. 6:05. developing story this morning south of the bay area. crews are working to gain the upper hands on a wildfire burning out of control. the metz fire is burning in a rural area. take at that large plume of smoke. the fire started yesterday afternoon and right now more than 100 firefighters are on the front lines. nearly 4,000 acres are burned, homes destroyed and some in the danger zone. >> there are some range land ranch houses in the area. we want to protect lives and property. >> more crews are making their way to that area last check the fire is only 20% contained. >> injured on the job.

santa clara jail guard is recovering after being assaulted by an inmate. that happened yesterday. a sheriff department's spokesperson said the guard went to the e.r. for head injuries. he was treated and later released. that attack involved an inmate who has a history of violence. san francisco's new acting police chief tony chaplin is pledging to make important changes in the police department. he spelled out his plans during a meeting with the naacp yesterday. he talked about priorities like body cameras and reworking the city's use of force policy. >> i'm not going to let anything fl sway from the path wrong and get to a place where we are happy and understand police are here to help you. >> chaplin was named interim chief last week. former chief greg suhr resigned after several controversies and

another fatal police shooting last week. 6:06. a lot of talk about the thunder's total domination of the warriors last night. there is chatter surrounding dove star mont green. >> he could be out. here is why. in the second quarter green is fouled by stephen adams. in the process, green kicked the thunder center right between the legs. you are going to see it right there. the nba is reviewing the flagrant foul. they could decide to suspend or fine green before tomorrow night's game four. this is the second time he hit adams there in this series. >> i don't think i'll be suspended because i don't know how anyone could possibly say i did that on person.

because of the way her campaign drew a circle. >> two circles in fact. neither made sense? >> i want you to harken back to 6th great when you had two or more circles that overlapped to show what a group has in common. clinton campaign showed off this one to show how many gun owners want stricter gun laws. it makes no sense. the bottom yellow circle implies gun owners are not american. in the blue circle is 90% of americans, we are not sure where the other 10% went. people responded with their own diagrams. i suppose it was inevitable somebody would do a scientific study, what is cleaner a taxi or uber. ride sharing companies marketed

themselves as safer and cleaner than cabs. but cnbc says cabs win. cnbc quotes data from a company that did that swab for germs thing. looking at the rear seat belt, the one you would use, the experiment found ride share services were on average the worse. they were able to grow a million colonies of bacteria after swabbing the seat belt. taxi a fraction of that at 26,000. rental cars, you could eat off a rental car, 403 colonies of bacteria. >> what if you find an old pizza inside a cab? >> maybe are a lot of business people and they don't usually use the back seat. >> that is a good point. rental cars only have a single passenger. >> sherlock holmes solved that. >> still not eating that pizza.

we start out with sunshine in some spots, clouds in others. sunol, that's one of the cloudy spots. we are seeing sun elsewhere. especially in the south bay. here is a look at those temperatures, what it feels like. 56 in the east bay. 50 in the south bay and 48 in the north bay. let's drop in there to get a closer look. 40s in spots like napa. petaluma 49. 46, and we will see temperatures in the 50s and 60s as we go through the rest of the morning. le more clouds through lunch time. clouds start to roll in tonight with highs reaching into the mid 60s. low 70s for parts of the south bay. 76 in gilroy. burlingame. 65. 62 for the mission district. low 70s for the north bay. oakland today 65 and 75 in

pleasanton. here is a look at the next five days. it will be much cooler than average. take a look at dublin. now the average high is 76. we'll be up to 68 today. we will stay cooler than average for the next three days. by thursday and friday, should be better but not back to where we should be. this is why this area of low pressure giving us a strong onshore flow. a slight chance of showers farther north and to the east of us. the bay area stays dry. another low dropping in in time for the weekend. that will reenforce this cool air and also bring in a chance of mountain showers for the end of the week. we may have put in those weekend plans, it may be raining off and on. look at the weekend forecast. we see a mix of sun and clouds. high temperatures reaching into the mid 70s. we will see that in interior parts of the bay area like the north bay, tri-valley as well with as south bay.

haggle over how much money is needed to fight the zika virus... health officials arfin money where ever they can to while congress continues to haggle over how much money will be allocated to fight zika virus, health officials are finding money wherever they can get ready. centers for disease control is shifting $40 million from emergency fund to zika. that is set aside to deal with crisis from flu outbreaks to hurricanes. president obama asked for $2 billion for zika. senate offered about half that amount and the house bill gives more than $600,000. 6:24. developing story this morning. isis claiming responsibility for deadly attacks in two syrian coastal cities overnight as 78 people were killed. there were four explosions in total including three rockets and suicide bomber at a hospital. the cities in the western region are strong holds of president bashir assad. president obama praising the

>> good morning. good news is you still have today. it has to be submitted online or post marked by today. marin county closes at 4:30. no last-minute rush there. the number of californians registering to vote at democrats this year surged to more than double from the number the same time in 2012 according to political data. there's been a 78% increase for republicans, 70% for no-party voters. the younger vote 25 to 30-year-old is nearly doubled. that could be considered good news for bernie sanders who has a major uphill battle in his fight against hillary clinton. sanders believes he can still win votes from the superdelegates who can change their minds. the numbers seem to be favoring

sanders in different ways. a poll of registered voters showed sanders would best donald trump by 15 percentage points while hillary clinton has a 46% to 43% lead over trump. that difference is whip the poll's margin of error. it is a small fraction of the 11-point advantage clinton held over trump in a similar poll that was just last month. during "meet the press" on nbc, clinton waved off these numbers and said sanders has not had a single negative ad run against him. she is not worrying about it with polls this far out. hillary clinton is supposed to be in the bay area wednesday to campaign. >> thank you. both candidates seem concerned about how they do in california. that is where bill clinton will be campaigning, no northern

being investigated. this time in richmond. it happened about 6:00 last night near the regatta boulevard exit off 580. police broefly closed westbound lanes to search for bullet casings. last week pittsburgh city council voted to approve $100,000 to be used for new cameras as they try to combat this problem. a popular san jose bakery closed after it was damaged in a fire. investigators are trying to figure out how it smarted. dick's bakery on meridian avenue early sunday morning. the fire started in the back storage area of the bakery. no one was hurt. dick's bakery is a favorite family-owned business since 1947. the owner has no idea how it could have started. >> they are investigated. they think it might be arson.

more love from the skyline. bob redell joining us live. quite the sight to see. morning. >> good morning to you. at 8:00, venus will finally get her head, a large crane will hearst the final block of this enormous statue that is being constructed inside the print place apartments here. when complete she will tower over the central plaza at 92 feet making her the tallest sculpture in the city. it will be only slightly shorter than new york's statue of liberty. the denver artist created venus out of stainless steel. venus was fabricated in china, shipped over in 70 pieces, put together in 11 blocks on site

mediterranean thursday. there is mounting evidence some kind of sudden catastrophic events occurred onboard that plane. he will not say that it's terrorism. the plane plunged into the mediterranean killing all 66 people onboard. searchers recovered parts of the plane wreckage including personal belongings. the flight recorders have not been recovered. the race is on because the batteries only last about a month. >> 6:44. bill cosby scheduled to appear tomorrow for a hearing to determine whether he faces a criminal trial. prosecutors in december charged cosby with sexual assault. that was only after comments he made after a 2005 deposition became public. he alluded to giving drugs and alcohol to women before sex and giving payments to lovers. 6:45 on your monday morning.

bill would pit the brakes on convicted drunk drivers. supporters will gather in sacramento later today. jerry hill offered a bill that would require ignition interlock devices. the device is a small breathalyzer wired into the vehicle's ignition system. this week it gets its second test in the state senate. the public safety committee approved that bill. that happened in march. scott mcgrew was telling us keep an eye on a tech company first data. >> the markets have been open about 15 minutes. how is it doing? >> not nearly as well as i thought it would. it was an atlanta company. >> kris sanchez joining us live in san jose where the trial in sierra lamar's murder case could finally begin today. >> right. the murder case of the man accused of killing her and there could be another day after four long years for that family. here is a look at a timeline. sierra lamar disappeared in march 2012, more an year later, antolin garcia-torres was arrested. he did not enter a plea until 2014. last month the judge granted him more time for evidence. today he could grant another delay because one of those lawyers is tied up in another triumphant he is now 25 years old and faces the death penalty if convicted of kidnapping and killing sierra lamar. lamar's told us he knew the death penalty might be a longer wait for justice but thought seeking that punishment was important for his daughter.

this year alone, the murder trial has been on the calendar 16 times at superior court and the trial hasn't started. kris sanchez, "today in the bay." >> 6:58. new this morning a dramatic rescue at the scene of a two-story house fire. started about 4:30 this morning in antioch. firefighters arrived to find a woman on the roof. she managed to get to the ground. she jumped down on to cans before reaching the ground. crews had that fire under control in about 30 minutes and no one was hurt. >> we are seeing brushfires popping up and down. is that because of dry conditions and wind? >> it's fairly dry. everything is drying out and turning brown. all you need is someone to flick a cigarette butt out the window and you have a wildfire. it's something to be findful of.
