the roadways. today on the bay continues. a very good thursday morning to you. thank you for joining us. i'm laura garcia-cannon. >> we are rolling through our week. we are almost at the weekend. >> it's going to look nice for the warmer air moving in giving us more of a summer feel for the unofficial start of summer. mild and cloudy this morning. there will be a touch warmer this afternoon. lunchtime temperatures feel being nice in the upper 60s to low 70s. upper 70s to the south bay, north bay as well as tri-valley. a look ahead to the warmer air in the forecast. let's see the approach to the bay bridge. >> this is slow going. this is what it looks like every day at 6:00. you can see for yourself, it is stop and go. the other area stop and go is the east bay. a couple of accidents have the

east bay slow. 880 southbound. two cars involved with an accident. two lanes are blocked there. very slow backed to the san mateo bridge. hop over to 92. avoid this whole area. >> 6:01. a developing story in the north bay where a novato high school is cancelling all classes today because some of its students were involved in a deadly shooting and stabbing yesterday. >> steph chuang from novato. dozens of searchers and police dogs will be back at that crime scene looking for more evidence. >> good morning to you. we are expecting those teams to go out near marin country club. all this as people are waiting to hear how these students were involved in last night's deadly

double shooting. dozens of marin county sheriff deputies as well as police officers responded to the open space preserve around 5:00 last night. a man called 911 to report he had been shot and stabbed by three hispanic males. deputies went farther to find these gunmen. they found a second victim who had been shot. they tried giving him first aid but he died at the scene. investigators say they are working with solid leads. >> we did have a report there might have been a white sedan. we don't have any more details other than that. reaching out to the community. if you have any information. >> police lifted a shelter in place. crews will be back to process scenes with 40 search and rescue

team members. back here, students are not set to return until tuesday after the holiday. when they come back, school officials say there will be grief counselors to help anyone who needs it. stephanie chuang, today in the bay. 6:03 in vallejo, desperate search is on for a 15-year-old girl witnesses saw bloodied being dragged away at a freeway overcrossing. pearl pinson never made it to school yesterday. they believe this man may be connected to her. 19-year-old fernando castro was reportedly seen pulling pinson along i-780 overcrossing yesterday morning. >> there was some form of altercation that happened there with an assault. there was one shot heard in that area around that time. a witness saw a female a be drug away that had blood on her face. we are very concerned. >> a witness told police castro

was carrying a gun. if you have information call vallejo police. mayors say enough is new. mayors from five contra costa county cities are going to join crosses to ask governor brown and the state help install surveillance cameras on local freeways. all this after more than 20 shootings in two bay area counties since november last year. two days ago a man was shot in the leg and a woman had her window shattered by a stray bullet. >> i can't believe it lodged in the roof of my car. that is close. it could have hit me, my dog. >> mayors hope governor brown will grant them money and access to cameras that are there but controlled by caltrans. >> decision 2016, the bay area gets another visit today from a presidential front-runner. hillary clinton is scheduled to make two stops, one in south bay

and one in san francisco. that is where clinton will make her first stop this afternoon. she held a public rally in salinas and private fund-raiser. the focus on sal comes in the midst of controversy for clinton. state department inspector genre leased a report saying the former secretary of state violated suber security guidelines using a personal e-mail. with california's june primary around the corner, the timing of the report is not good for clinton. >> for sanders, this is a chance to keep in the game. for clinton, it's a chance to put sanders away this has become the turning point of the primary season. >> bernie sanders has been aggressively campaigning in california hoping to take clinton on in a debate. prior to the primary june 7th. after her stop in san jose, clinton will head north for an

evening event. listen to what trump said. >> i would love to do that. >> trump made those comments last night. sanders quickly responded saying, "game on. i look forward to debating trump in california." nothing has been made official. in southern california, tactical police faced off with protesters outside a donald trump rally in anaheim. several arrested were made. it was no repeat of the night before when protesters were throwing rocks and bottles at police officer. >> state supreme court justices will weigh juvenile sentencing and whether long sentencings are

necessary. the case surrounds a man convicted at the murder of age 16 who was sentenced to what is required to be 50 years to life. his attorneys argue the sentence makes his right to a parole hearing moot. judges will decide if that violates the constitutional ban on cruel and unusual punishment. for the first time in history, the san jose sharks will advance to the stanley cup finals. >> a lot of pent-up celebration released last night. sharks advance to the stanley cup finals the first time in franchise history. team teal sent the blues home packing last night feeling the blues with a dominating 5-2 win. fans waited a long time for this. like 25 years long. others say they waited their entire lives. >> unbelievable.

most famous signs in the world. a self-proclaimed youtube prankster -- clbe 6:136789 busted for scaling one of the most famous signs in the world. a youtube prankster climbed on to the hollywood sign yesterday, started waving a flag that read "i'm back." lapd promptly arrested him along with another man. 6:13. a new report shedding light on the extremely grim topic of military suicides. researchers in bethesda, maryland, studied this issue. more than half the people who tried to take their lives had not been deployed. they were still in their first years of service.

that was about 61% of the people studied. those findings suggest it may be times of transition that stress the military. gun fire erupted during a crowded concert last night. it happened in irving plaza in new york city before rapper t.i. was scheduled to hit the stage. four people shot, one man died. no arrests and no word on a motive. a judge in florida told online news organization gawker the case against it is going to stand. it will have to pay former wrestler hulk hogan $140 million. >> which will bankrupt the company. >> gawker gave it one last appeal. the case had a silicon valley connection because it was paid for by billionaire peter thiel.

he admitted as much to "the new york times" on wednesday. thiel is attacking gawker because it covered invasive stories about thiel. that led some to wonder if thiel is quashing the free press but he has given no indication he is after all kinds of news agencies, just the one that behave behaved irreputably. remember the airbnb that got trashed? you're renting out your home. allstate says it will offer new special airbnb insurance

with red noses today, blame it on red nose day. it's a global charity drive to lift children out of poverty. it culminates with a comedy tell none tonight airing here on nbc bay area. some of the world's best known comics take it seriously including jack black and craig ferguson. watch it tonight at 9:00 p.m. it's a touching interview with jack black talking about seeing children that live in poverty. >> he has done a lot of charitable work. you always see him in hospitals and speaking out about global poverty. >> he is a funny guy, too. >> no red noses today. >> it's going to heat up the next couple of days. looking at great weather in time for the holiday weekend. make plans to get outside. make sure you want to stay cool. now you can see those low clouds. we are seeing that in spots.

that will once again be clearing out with better visibility. temperaturewise we have upper 50s in the east bay and upper 40s in the north bay. let's drop in on the east bay and get a closer look. pleasanton 55. alamo starts out at 53. it's 53 in the peninsula with highs today reaching the low to mid 70s. still 60s along the coast. 79 in los gatos. 73 in petaluma. oakland 70. pleasanton a high of 79. we'll be stuck in this weather pattern that will warm up our temperatures over the next several days. no major changes here. more of a northerly flow and get rid of morning clouds. looking ahead to this weekend's

forecast, 78 into the low 80s in the peninsula by the end of the weekend. 87 on saturday. you see temperatures making it to the upper 80s and low 90s. i'll want to make sure you have somewhere nicend cool to hang out. along the beach, we'll have mild temperatures in the mid 70s. passo robles will be hot in the 80s. santa barbara feeling more comfortable. 81 tomorrow. weekend, upper 70s with a mix of sun and clouds. quite a few events going on early next week for memorial day on monday. 63 for the memorial day day ceremony at 1:00 it will be 70.

hit on its bottom line .. due to lower demand for its pollution credits "fee" program. ==vo== california will probably take a hit to its bottom line due to lower demand for pollution credit fees. the state launched its cap and trade program to control emissions. it makes polluting companies buy permits which are auctioned off quarterly. results of the latest auction show only about 1/10 of the credit were sold. that could add up to a shortfall that stands to be in the hundreds of millions of dollar for the state. some of that money is allocated for the high-speed rail project. ditch the car, take the bus, shuttle or ride share. that is a reminder for anyone

headed to the golden gate bridge this weekend. restrictions take place tomorrow through monday 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. tsa says a fix is in the works to clear up the long security lines across the country. >> tracie potts joins us live from washington, d.c. more screeners are on the way. >> the tsa says they need 4,000 to 5,000 more. they will hire more people. whether they can get it done in time for the busy travel season, that we don't know. american telling law makers here that 70,000 passengers had missed their flights and 40,000 bags hadn't made it because of these long lines.

door. we have sunshine in other spots. 48 in the north bay. 57 in the east bay. and our highs reaching 79 in the north bay, south bay, tri-valley upper 70s. san francisco, a nice sunny comfortable 66. a look ahead to warmer air in time for tomorrow and the rest of the weekend. what's happening on the roadways? >> not much happening. we are tracking a slowdown in the south bay. around 6:00 we are starting to see things close. we do have an accident around 101 northbound right where that camera was just positioning. it's beyond the interstate. there is slowing happening there. that accident 880 southbound, a backup is expensive here and goes to the san mateo bridge. there is another accident before the san mateo bridge near a street. 880 southbound a mess this

north bay where novato high school is closed because some of the students were involved in a deadly shooting yesterday afternoon. authorities are now searching for three suspects. shooting happened on fayway drive not far from the marin country club. one victim was found shot to death. a second person was shot and stabbed. stephanie chuang is in novato gathering more information and will join us at 6:56. we are learning more about a four-on-twosome scene near the bay bridge with part of a body was found on nearby rocks. investigators believe it might have been in the water almost a month. the torso was discovered off burma road in west oakland yesterday. it blocks to a young male. the fact it was in the water for weeks is probably how the body lost its limbs. >> there's many currents in the bay that could carry a torso 0.

>> investigators will try to identify the person the torso belongs to and explain how it ended up in the bay. new details on a disturbing fire in vallejo. the father accused of killing his own 5-year-old son and severely injuring the boy's mother is in jail. darylon shumake turned himself into police. the boy's mother is in critical condition. shumake was despondent and made comments about suicide. we are learning more information about a deadly train crash that took the life of a mother and child earlier in the week. a construction zone might have caused the mother's car to get trapped on the tracks. that happened tuesday. the 30-year-old mother and her 3-year-old daughter were killed. witnesses say their suv was stopped on the tracks when a train barrelled into it.

>> we are working with amtrak closely not only to get video from their train but get their computer data downloaded from the engine to show not only the speed but when the brakes to the train are applied. >> construction is taking place along washington avenue. that's causing congestion near the tracks. the mother might have been caught in heavy traffic and might have been trapped in the rail crossing arms. a fairfield high school student brought a gun to school. staff found an unloaded gun hidden under a trash bin in a rest room yesterday. later found a 14-year-old student with a bullet. a student brought a 380 caliber yam automatic on campus and hit it. it also hid a gun magazine with two bullets in someone else's bag. the student was arrested and the gun belonged to a relative. two dependencies seen in a video beating a suspect are

expected to be arraigned later today. they will appear in san francisco court this afternoon. the car theft suspect says he suffered serious injuries as a result. deputies chased him from alameda county to san francisco last november. the man convicted of shooting and killing an 8-year-old in oakland is expected to speak during his sentencing today. alaysha was killed when bullets came flying three her apartment three years ago. he faces the death penalty or life in prison. a bay area fire agency has gotten approval to operate drones. the district is only one of a handful to receive that distinction. the team will be available for large scale responses. you may have seen this yesterday

when firefighters sent up a drone during santa clara strip mall fire. in that case the drone operators were amateur volunteers who were working alongside the department. these adorable fluffy birds are a reason a stretch of marin county beach is closing. right now through labor day, it's nesting season for the snowy plover. rangers are going to close a small stretch of the point rays beach. the chicks and breeding adults can get privacy they need to thrive at a critical time. >> in case my kids are watching, no you cannot have one as a pet. >> or touch one. >> or a chicken. >> going to the birds, kari hall. >> we'll have great weather this

is either airtight or something less than that .. when it comes to airport 6:43. sfo is air tight or something less than that when it comes to airport perimeter breaches. the airport insists last year it had no breaches involving people getting over fences or going through gates. associated press found at least three such breaches last year. sfo did not provide a.p. with further detail but said none of the cases should be considered security breaches. a separate investigation said sfo had more perimeter breaches than other airports. a breach of trust and fight between a palo alto mobile home park owner and a city that will

head to federal court today. the city approved its bid to sell in 2013 but ordered the owner to pay $8 m in fees to relocate people that lived there. the owner sued the city saying that fee is a staggers financial demand. >> a new survey shows nearly half the americans say they would struggle to cover a $400 expense in emergency. the fed conducted this survey in 2013 to track how americans are recovering from recession. some say they are living comfortably or doing okay, up 5% from last year. 30% of those surveyed are just getting by. walgreens is being silly as it opens the nasdaq this morning. >> it's for a good cause but not a good day for walgreens. >> it's red nose day. it's a great charity. walgreens is a big part of that.

they are out on the nasdaq. executives from wall green and good for them, but a new report in the "wall street journal" says probably many are worried about their company may be worried about their jobs at walgreens. here is why. the issue is with a company called theranos. walgreens just did not ask the right questions this morning of theranos. "the journal" says their own scientist asked for a theranos machine to try out but theranos said no they sent experts to palo alto but the experts weren't allowed to go inside the lab. yet walgreens went ahead with the deal anyway. medical exams from the fed show theranos machines simply don't work. a new report says one of

apple's executives suggest the cupertino company buy time warner cable. time warner owns hbo and cnn which would make it easier for app toll create its own cable-like tv service. that deal never happened. tiffany reported another drop in sales on wednesday. the problem seems to be millennials. it's not that young people aren't buying jewelry. tiffany has a low end, under $500 with silver items. they try to bring them in and get them to the engagement level. millennials see tiffany as an

cloudy skies will clear out quickly. we are getting clearing in the south bay. live look at san jose. not a cloud in the sky. temperaturewise as you head out, mid to upper 50s. low 50s in spots like santa rosa. 50 there. highs reaching the mid 70s for the peninsula. 66 right along the coast and 76 in morgan hill. 66 in the mission district. 60s and 70s for most of us. there will be a couple of spots like brentwood hitting low 80s today. that will become the norm. the seven day forecast at the bottom of the screen. high pressure continues to build west of us. that will give us more of a northerly flow with winds flowing around that high pressure. we won't have the onshore flow. we'll stay in that pattern for several days with more of that warm air staying with us through the start of next week.

roadways. >> popular weekend. want to give you a quick heads's up. talking about the accident earlier in fremont. you see the cars moving. that slowing you have to get through. going to be a slow go. as you head down towards the rest of the south bay, looking good. there is some slow spots. there are slow spots starting to 0 develop. the one i want to zone in on here is 101 northbound before the 208 interchange. slowing on 85 and 280 near west valley. i want to show you what it's looking like near 101. you can see from here, not all that bad. you wait five minutes, cars start to pile in. stop and go here. you know how it usually looks. it could be much worse. >> maybe people are hopping on mass commuting this morning. b.a.r.t. wants to give passengers more options to hold

parents yesterday. they did say they decided to cancel classes to ensure the safety of both students and the staff here. dozens of marin county sheriff's deputies and police officers canvassed the open space preserve around 5:00 last night. responding to a 911 call by a man who said he was shot and stabbed by three hispanic males. they found a second victim shot lying in a ditch. they tried giving him first aid but he died at the scene. first victim is in serious condition but expected to survive. investigators will reveal more processing both scenes soon now that it's light out. 40 search and rescue team members will head out to search for weapons and evidence later this morning. no arrests, but they are working with good leads including a report of a white sedan driving away at that time. students will not be back here
