we'll talk about fremont. 880 south past the truck scale moving well. farther north there seems to be something going on. we'll send it back to you guys. >> thank you, mike. at 5:02, we begin with a fire in alameda. the person inside that home did make it out safely, one firefighter was hurt trying to ballot those flames. >> it's a house fire on the 1500 block of fountain avenue in alameda. firefighters were able to contain the flames. there was one woman inside at the time it broke out. they had difficulty getting access to her inside. one firefighter was injured during that operation. the firefighter is being treated in a hospital. that's all we know in terms of her status. we'll get a live report and update in the next half hour. new clues in the mysterious

disappearance of 15-year-old pearl pinson. investigators continue to comb several areas to search for that team as her friends and family hold out hope that she will return home. >> the teen was last seen and evidence is first being revealed. >> the teenager was last seen in this area. they say, witnesses say the suspect took her away at gun point. the sheriff's department issued an amber alert for pearl pinson and the suspect's car. witnesses heard a gun shot and loud screams and she had a bloody face. the suspect's car was later spotted and led to a shootout and chase in santa barbara county. last night a candlelight vigil was held for pinson.

>> i promise she is going to come back. we are going to keep going until she comes back. >> find a way home. i know you can. >> the sheriff's department says the suspect who was shot and killed, 19-year-old fernando castro was an acquaintance of pinson's. friends and family are desperately trying to find pinson. if you have any information to help, call the sheriff's department. >> thank you very much. a developing stopy out of novato now which is where tensions remain high overnight as police try to track down a homicide suspect still on the loose this morning. two suspects. both novato high school students are in custody after a series of raids. police are trying to find one more suspect. they are all accused of shooting and stabbing two students wednesday night.

one of those victims died. a 13-year-old who saw the s.w.a.t. team in her neighborhood yesterday said students in the area are feeling uneasy. >> made me feel unsafe. i didn't want to get out of the car because i thought if something happens, or if there was some shooting, maybe i would get hurt. >> my heart was pounding. i was telling them just get out there. >> the marin county sheriff's department searched near the country club yesterday looking for evidence. they wouldn't say why those teens were attacked. there are no classes again today at novato high school because of an already-planned staff development day. >>. >> police need your help catching a car thief in the tri-valley. this ford f-250 truck has been linked to several stolen vehicle cases. it has a light sticker in the center of its rear window. if you see the truck, you're urged to call pleasanton police.

unified school district leaders will join the call to make the state school safer for transgender students. officials will partner with transgender students and others later this morning. they are calling on all schools to promote dignity, safety and respect for all students. this on the heels of the obama administration's guidance for all schools in the united states to do the same. that sounds like a party to me. fireworks lit out the sky outside oracle arena as the doves live to play another day. the warriors held off the thunder last night. >> i never had no doubt. >> if i was in oklahoma, i work worried for game seven. >> i flew from florida to see them play. i am stoked. >> the game was close to the

from washington, d.c. good morning. >> mixed reaction from some japanese who think that the president shouldn't be there or it was long overdue, 71 years before the u.s. came to visit that site. the white house made it clear this was not an apology tour. the president laying a wreath at the site touring with japan's prime minister. he greeted survivors, people who were children when this happened. some of those who are having mixed feeling about the president's visit say he could never really understand the horror of what they went through being buried in rubble and feeling the effects of the radiation for years and years after. in his remarks this morning, president obama described it this way. he said death fell from the sky that day but talked about trying to avoid war today in this current clime.

cave. officials say a sudden torrential downpour caused the water to rise inside that cave trapping 19 clemson university students who were on a tour inside. the cave director and guide went inside waiting through rising water and led the students out to safety. can you imagine how terrifying that would be? >> we had a lot of animals in the news this week. >> we are headed to see warmer temperatures and it's going to get hot. if you like beach weather, we've got that for you. if you don't have air conditioning, that's the one thing. it's going to get uncomfortable, especially for inland valleys. no fog out there keep in mind, we are expecting to see those temperatures ramp up quickly. high pressure is in control of

the medical community has long feared is now in the united states. =vo= doctors confirm a pennsylvania a drug resistant superbug the medical community long feared is now in the united states. a pennsylvania woman has this strain of the potentially deadly superbug. it's still not known how she was infected because she never traveled abroad. that superbug was first discovered several months ago in china. doctors are extremely concerned because the bacteria is resistant to even the strongest antibiotic.

a firefighter injured while trying to put out flames at this home in alameda. >> laura is live at the home on mountain street. do we know how serious the firefighter's injuries are? >> the good news is i'm told that firefighter is expected to be okay. she suffered a possible fracture, but firefighters wouldn't get specific. i am told she was taken to a local hospital for treatment. take a look at the house here behind me. firefighters haven't determined if this is a total loss. you can see part of the roof caved in. windows are broken. the house is completely charred. the fire broke out just before 12:30 this morning. one woman was home at the time and got herself out safely before firefighters arrived. just before 1:00 a.m., firefighters pulled a second alarm and oakland came out to assist. seven engines, three trucks,

three ambulances and three fire chiefs out here. firefighters are still investigating the cause of the fire. they say it started in the front of the house and was hard to get to because there were a lot of stored items in the house. >> there was a lot of heavy load in the house, fire load. so crews had a heart time getting in. >> the firefighter injured is expected to be okay. she suffered a possible fracture but they would not get specific. the homeowner is okay. she spent the night at a neighbor's house. developing story right now, holding out hope, friends and family of this young woman, 15-year-old pearl pinson gathered for an emotional vigil

last night. investigators continue to search for her. now the solano county sheriff is joining that investigation as we learn new details about how pearl disappeared. deputies are in santa barbara county with a search warrant for the car of 19-year-old fernando castro. that suspect is allegedly connected to pinson's disappearance. he was shot and killed during a gun battle with authorities on the central coast yesterday. pinson was abducted around 7:00 in the morning wednesday near her moment on taylor avenue in vallejo. there is still an amber alert in effect as authorities focused on trying to find her. >> trying to process as much of the evidence we can. our main goal is to find pearl. that is our goal. it hasn't changed. no matter what the events were today. >> pearl, you need to come home. find a way home. i know you can. >> witnesses tell police they saw castro dragging pinson

across a pedestrian overcrossing as she was screaming for help. authorities are investigating a blood stain left on that overcrossing. 5:35. new details emerging on a mysterious killing of a scientist in oakland. local investigators are working with the fbi, poring over hours of surveillance video. they released images of three people who may have key information about that case. brian boyle was shot and killed steps away from his home in oakland last month. >> footage of persons of interest that may have come in contact with brian prior to him being murdered here. >> police released photos of this silver honda accord they say was in the area at the time. they raised the reward to $30,000. not guilty is the plea from the two alameda county deputies

accused of a brutal beating. deputies were in court yesterday, both facing several felony charges, including assault with a deadly weapon. surveillance video captured the beating last year in san francisco. they are seen repeatedly striking the alleged car thief with batons. >> one of the most savage beatings. >> it is always disturbing. police use of force is disturbing. when it's captured, it's disturbing. that doesn't make it illegal. >> deputies were put on paid leave following the release of that video. they are scheduled to be back in court in july. two homes were burglarized in one neighborhood. all this happening in the ringwood elementary neighborhood near skyline boulevard yesterday. both homes are about a mile apart from each other. they were burglarized between 2:00 and 4:00 in the middle of the afternoon. police are searching for the thieves. call if you have information.

in san ramon, police on the hunt of a woman suspected of robbing a bank. this happened yesterday at the pacific services credit union. surveillance cameras captured these photos of the subject. b.a.r.t. riders will have to contend with closured over the holiday weekend. they impact the san leandro and bayfair stations. crews are finishing work on a rail replacement project that work is supposed to start midnight tonight and wrap up over the weekend. b.a.r.t. will use shuttle buses between the stations. the state's public utility commission is hoping old school can help prevent catastrophic wildfires. that school is a map that indicates areas where power lines pose the greatest wildfire danger. the goal is to prevent fires. the commissioner approved fire

onboard an airplane. more than 300 passengers and crew were onboard when the fire started as the plane was about to take off. everyone made it off the plane. no one was hurt. alarming news about cell phones and cancer. scientists say there might be a link. >> scott mcgrew to talk us through the science here. >> there are a lot of reasons to pay attention to this study. it was done by u.s. government scientists. it was one of the most expensive studies ever. it was peer reviewed, and it does show a connection between cell phone radiation and cancer. scientists overseen by the national institutes of health exposed rats to the radio frequencies commonly used by cell phones. they did so underground isolating the experiment from most other radiation and found instances where male rats developed cancers in their brains and in their hearts. do keep in mind there have been

to be taking some sort of a trip this holiday weekend. it's no wonder that people are looking for alternatives. with the lowest gas prices in more than a decade, majority of people are driving to their destinations this memorial day weekend, and for their summer vacations, according to aaa. with the most recent crippled tsa lines, many travelers found it takes longer to get through security at the airport than it does for their actual flight times. fewer screeners and more passengers led to lines as long as three hours here in chicago, leading some people to avoid holiday travel all together. tsa says it is making progress cutting down on these lines. we have seen that this morning. they are still lacking some 4,000 to 5,000 officers. at this point you can't say enough. got to get to whatever airport at least two hours early. live in chicago, wendy woolfolk.
