many parts of the state remain under flash flood watches and as you can see behind me there is no place for this water to go. authorities say it could be days, even weeks before some of these waters recede. guys, back to you. >> thank you. >> texas, texas, texas. here we go again. we have no good news to talk about. again we are watching right now more heavy thunderstorms stretching from san antonio. they're going to keep coming over the next several days. we've got 24 million people under a flash flood watch and warnings from oklahoma city all the way down to brownsville and what we're watching is this stationary front plus an upper level low add a juicy atmosphere so flash flood watches remain in effect through tomorrow through texas and through parts of southwestern arkansas will be

involved as well. flooding will ease towd the end of the weekend but look at the rainfall amounts. a wide swath of rainfall, two to three inches per hour but we could see up wards of ten inches of rain for south central and central texas. the flooding is going to continue and we don't see any relief until early next week. stick around and we'll be back in a couple of minutes. now the deadly shooting at ucla. police are trying to figure out why a man shot and killed that professor before taking his own life. nbc is at ucla this morning. >> reporter: good morning. all classes are expected to resume as normal here at the ucla campus except over at the engineering center where this deadly shooting took place. now students are trying to refocus on school after a tragic day that left them on edge.

>> shots fired in a parking lot. >> reporter: frantic moments. students rushing in to save students. for nearly two hours tactical teams spread out searching for the gunmen, students searched by police. students in the lock down posting pictures of heavily armed police going from door-to-door. some of those doors impossible to lock from within so students improvised using cables, stacking chairs to stay safe. >> we barricaded the door. >> in the lock down site i was at some students were calling their parents telling them they loved them and they were crying. it was crazy. >> reporter: police say the shooting took place in an office inside this engineering building. the gunmen killed a professor and took his own life. law enforcement sources say there was a personal conflict

between the gunmen and the professor. he was a husband and father of two. >> it's hard fathom it to -- excuse me, to have your son grow up without a day. >> reporter: his former student says he's outraged. >> i'm mad someone would do that to a young professor who started his career. he was one of my favorite professors. >> we're very saddened by the loss of these two lives. >> reporter: for 43,000 students this shooting taking place right before finals. how do you concentrate on finals after this. >> that's what i was thinking. i was worried my brain can't just go back to that now but we'll see later how it shakes out. >> reporter: school officials say they have been troubled by reports of those doors not being able to be locked from the inside. they are now reviewing campus

safety, a vigil has been planned for the professor. back to you guys. >> thank you. in other news president obama will deliver his final commencement speech today in colorado springs. after today the president will have delivered the address twice at each of the four academies while he has been in office. he plans to discuss security challenges facing the u.s. and the role the next generation of service members will play in protecting this country. the city of minneapolis will proceed with an informativestigf two white polices who shot a black man in november. they will not criminally charge the two officers with violating the civil rights of the man. they cite insufficient evidence. the officers had been cleared by the state. police say the man was shot while resisting arrest. his death sparked weeks of protests.

this is a bizarre story out of washington where a top pentagon official is charged with stealing license plates in a neighborhood dispute. the top public affairs official has entered an agreement with prosecutors to keep him out of jail after he was charged with stealing license plates from a car in his neighborhood. the charges will be dismissed next year if he pays rest stush, completes community service and doesn't get in any more trouble. he remains on the job at the pentagon. a high profile case back in the national spotlight this morning. the school with owen lee bree assaulted a classmate is being sued by the victim's family. we are in new jersey wihampshire latest. >> reporter: these are strong charges for a prep school known to turn out senators. they say the school is

responsible because they knew what was going on and turned a blind eye. >> guilty or not guilty. >> guilty. >> reporter: this morning the parents of the young woman sexually assaulted are suing the school alleging the elite prep school knew of a troubling sexual culture and did nothing to stop it. >> i was violated in so many ways. >> reporter: her voice disniezed the victim was 15 at the time. the school was guilt of promoting a tradition of statutory rape. the prosecution alleged he was following a tradition of the young men in the final year known as a secret salute. it was a secret club where male students tried to score with girls they called fresh meat. the encounters the suit alleges were often held here, a school storage shed nick named the mars hotel.

the suit claims school officials knew of the culture. the school is accused of negligence. >> they have a duty to protect these children as if they're their own children. >> reporter: the school denies wrongdoing saying in part we reject any allegations that the school has an unhealthy culture. the safety of our students has been and will continue to be the highest priority for our school. the suit says the victim will suffer for the rest of her life. >> what he did to me made me feel like i didn't belong on the plan planet. >> reporter: the boys attorneys said they have no comment on the suit. the girls family is asking for damages close to $400,000. regardless of how this turns out it could be very expensive to the school in the court of public opinion. back to you. >> all right. thank you. on a much lighter note a

up. >> okay. ma'am. >> you're riling him up. quite, quite! >> now he's up on top of the child. he has him by the shirt going back and forth. zoo officials made the decision to shoot and kill the gorilla. the boy's family has now released a new statement saying our child has had a checkup by his doctor and is still doing well. police said they would review the actions of the family leading up to the incident but the cincinnati zoo is not under investigation and saturday plans to reopen the gorilla world exhibit. following his death ten western gorillas remain here including one other silver back. the zoo has not said if it's making any changes before welcoming back visitors. the zoo said it was already in the process of making big changes over the next year doubling the size of the gorilla exhibit. as for the boy's family in their statement they thank the zoo for actions taken to protect their child. a spokesperson tells us that the

slammed into wentworth maynard's mitsubishi. court documents say he speed climbed to 80, 90, 107 miles an hour while using a snapchat filter that calculated her speed. she denied using the crash when it happened. maynard left with permanent brain damage. his attorney saying today, we look forward to pursuing justice against snapchat and miss mcgee. in a civil lawsuit against the company and young driver they argue mcgee was motivated to drive at an excessive speed in order to gain recognition by snapchat trophy. snapchat denied giving trophies for speed filter and declined reest for comment on the new charges. last week the judge grant add 30-day stay in the case after snapchat argue it has activity logs that demonstrate mcgee was not, in fact, using the snapchat application at the time or immediately prior to the collision. for its part snapchat does warn

continuing our breaking news coverage: good morning. at 9:26 on your thursday, i'm sam brock. continuing our breaking news kumpl. fremont police believe the man they believe shot and injured two of their officers died this morning in a house fire. the department just wrapped up a press conference minutes ago. bob redell is joining us live from fremont. did we learn anything new about the condition of the injured officers? >> reporter: fremont police telling us, sam, that both officers are in the same respective conditions. the detective that was shot twice is still in stable. the first officer who had the initial contact with the suspect, he is still in critical condition. the officer out here saying that he is considered to be very hard working, relatively new to the force, only on the force one to two years. you're looking at the burned remains of this home here where

looking at the headlines, report finds four big automakers are selling cars with takata air bag deflators that are defected. that reports say fiat, myths bee that, and the volkswagen vehicles from the model years have the same type of air bag inflaters as those already being recalled, but new model years are not yet covered by the recall. one wants automakers to replace them before the vehicles are sold. takata inflaters have been linked to at least 13 deaths. the government is hoping to cut the amount of salt that americans take in. the fda is proposing big voluntary reductions in sodium in 150 categories much processed and restaurant foods. now the aim is to reduce the
