conditions? >> good morning. fremont police tell us their officer, the one who was critically injured, can survive his injuries. but that the first 24 to 48 hours is crucial. by that measure he is in that critical time period. the other officer is recovering well here at san jose regional medical center. yesterday, law enforcement from all over the bay area streamed in to offer their support. yesterday afternoon the one officer pulled over a driver. there was a confrontation and shootout between the men. ten minutes later, the suspect got into another shootout with the detective who was shot once and is now in stable condition. >> i should say thank you to the medical staff who helped to care for our wounded officers. we are very grateful to them for

their kindness. >> the suspect, 44-year-old lived here in willow glen neighborhood. until recently he was on mandatory supervised probation and served time in prison for drugs and weapons conviction. he died yesterday during a standoff with police. the house in fremont he was holed up in caught fire after s.w.a.t. fire tear gas canisters in an attempt to flush him out. his body was found inside a closet. the coroner had yet to determine if he died from the fire or injury sustained from the shootout with police. bob redell, "today in the bay." >> it is 5:03. happening today, a former 49ers defensive star accused of raping a disabled woman will answer to charges in court today. dana stubblefield is accused of attacking a developmental disabled woman who went who his home for a job interview more

this was hardly peaceful. pro trump and anti-trump supporters shouted at each other, shoving each other around on the sidewalk. one woman was walking out with a trump jersy, got egged in the face. other people outside set trump campaign items on fire. there was a heavy police presence. police expected anywhere from 12,000 to 15,000 people here. things escalated and spilled down the street, police tried to disperse the crowd. >> this is for the wealth. >> you don't like immigrants? maybe you should go back to europe. >> i'm not from europe. >> really? >> no. >> i'm from tracy, california. i'm from the united states. >> there are a lot of supporters here but i don't know where they come from. this is a city that strongly supports immigrants. >> all of this happened after donald trump's hour-long speech inside which he countered hillary clinton's claim earlier in the day that he was not fit

last night vta board of directors approved putting a proposal on the november ballot. in 2/3 voters approved the measure, santa clara county would increase its sales tax by 0.5%. that would help pay for the south bay b.a.r.t. extension and modernize cal train and easing traffic on the busiest freeways, including highway 85. >> clear lanes straight to the championship for the warriors. winning never gets old. especially when it is the first step what the warriors are hoping is a championship trophy. >> for fans watching one of the nba finals at oracle last night, there was ample time to hunt for souvenirs before the game ended. warriors took control in the fourth quarter and cruised to victory against the cleveland cavaliers. 104-89. warriors faithful hope this is the first sign of things to come. >> home-court advantage, we still have the game to play in

san ramon man was arrested accused of sexually assaulting an uber driver. reportedly things escalated with verbal abuse turning physical. the woman managed to get vos out of the car by the time officers arrived to arrest him. people who know the suspect say they are shocked. >> oh, my god, are you kidding me? not him. he's a gentleman. he doesn't get himself in trouble like that. >> lyft tells us they are working wi working with authorities and voss is no longer allowed to use their services. it is quarter after 5:00. an accidental overdose of an extremely powerful painkiller is the official cause of death for prince. medical examiner's report says a lethal dose of fentanyl was in the singer's system. it's not clear if a doctor prescribed the drug or prince got it from another source.

the gunman earned a masters degree in 2005. this story stretches from the bay area to west los angeles to the shooter's home in st. paul, minnesota where a grizzly discovery was made yesterday. detectives found a kill list with three names on it, including the man's wife. her body was found 20 miles away inside of her house. on that list, a second ucla professor who was not on campus at the time of the shooting. that professor is okay. investigators say sarkar accused professor klug from stealing computer codes with him. >> he had issues with them. >> klug was a married father of two young children. breaking news at 5:38, the monthly jobs numbers are out. the unemployment rate is down. u.s. labor department says 38,000 jobs were added.

after a fiery crash in tennessee. the fa-18 hornet went down yesterday shortly after a a blue angels pilot is dead after that fiery crash in tennessee. the horpt went down shortly after the squad was practicing for an air show this weekend in colorado. you can see the fire ball. the pilot was a marine captain. it's not clear why he was not able to eject in time. another crash at an air show in colorado had a different ending. an air force pilot with the thunderbirds managed to eject just before his plane crashed yesterday. that pilot had just been a part of a flyover to celebrate air force academy graduation you see here that was attended by president obama. when the president heard what happened, he stopped to thank

the pilot for his service and to thank first responders who actually rushed to the scene. this morning, the world's most famous art museum the louvre in paris is closed after deadly floods wreaked havoc in paris and western-up. >> the river seine is overflowing in paris. crews are working overtime to remove artwork as the flood waters rise. thousands of people evacuated in the worst flooding in decades. people living in belgium and germany were also forced to flee. >> this week's floods have killed six people and trapped thousands in their homes or cars. california may be the first state in the country to allow undocumented immigrants to buy health insurance through the affordable care act. the state senate approved a bill that seeks approval to open up california to undocumented workers. those immigrants would not be eligible for subsidies. they would have to pay for their policies in full.
