>> it's been up and down as far as the heat the past several days. looks like we are still on that ride with some cooler temperatures for the next couple of days. then it goes back up in time for the weekend. not bad at all as we step out the door. san francisco 58 with highs reaching the 60s in the city through 70s for the north bay, east bay and peninsula. 80 for the south bay, as well as the tri-valley. i'll have more details on what else to expect as we go through this week. that's coming up in a few minutes. >> we've been talking about a few accidents across 880. fremont. we do have accidents i want to take you to. this is 880 southbound. you are going to run into a stall.

it's a big rig so it could stall you a little bit. crews are trying to get it to the shoulder. 880, a car spun out in the center divide. you have to move over to the shoulder. 101 southbound is slow because of an accident there. thank you very much. take a look at this video. fire tore through two vehicles there. fire crews were called at 64th and bromly just before 3:00 this morning. flames were so hot that the heat cracked the windows of a nearby building. thankfully, nobody was injured. 5:01. heating up when it comes to politics. decision day for people here in california as we reached that turning point in the election. >> nbc news reported hillary clinton has already hit the magic number of delegates to be considered the presumptive

presidential nominee. bernie sanders says this race is not over yet. kris sanchez is tracking the latest from the campaign trail. >> would you believe this coincidence, exactly eight years ago today hillary clinton ended her campaign for president. things are different this time around. the magic number is 2,383. that's the clinch the nomination. clinton is one delegate over that as of this morning. bernie sanders has 1,566 delegates, but he says it's not over and this is his point. speaking to a san francisco crowd, the senator reiterated his contention that the count giving clinton the win includes super delegates who do not have to commit or vote until the july 25th democratic national convention. until then, they could be persuaded to go either way and he says they could. however at this point, clinton still leads the count in

committed delegates, those that cannot change their minds and the popular vote. each candidate urging californians to turn out and vote today. >> we have the most important primary. the people of california have the right to determine who is going to be president of the united states. >> we're going to fight hard for every single vote, especially right here in california. >> hillary clinton steered clear of the talk of the presumptive nominee. she says she will turn her focus to the general election and donald trump. bernie sanders says he will stay in until the convention. >> an exclusive nbc bay area vote shows 8 million people are expected to come out and vote today, 44% turnout. the highest was in 2008 with 57%. lowest turnout was 3012.

check out our home page and click on the voter's edge election guide to find unbiased and indepth information about the national and local races. fury continues to grow after the sentencing of a stanford swimmer convicted of sexually assaulting a woman. last week the judge sentenced brock turner to six months in prison. turner could have received up to ten years. critics say the judge was too lenient. >> it's like a little blink in his life and for this woman, you know, it's going to be a lifetime of grief. >> turner could be out on probation as soon as three months from now. new change.org position calls for the judge to be removed due to his decision. more than 230,000 people signed the petition. a child is stabbed during a bank robbery in san leandro as

he was sitting waiting in the bank. the 32-year-old stabbed a 12-year-old boy in the back three times while he was waiting inside of a wells fargo. this boy is in stable condition. here is video from our chopper overhead the bank yesterday. that woman also robbed another person making a cash deposit. as she was running away, police caught her outside of the store. prosecutors have now filed a slew of charges against the man accused of keeping police at bay in a tense standoff in san francisco. the drama unfolding friday, police used bean bags to subdue the suspect. he now faces multiple felony charges. the five hour-long standoff started when someone reported an intruder into their home. he took off past police jumping over to a neighboring building, falling through a skylight. he wound up in the neighboring hair salon where the arrest

ensued. coroner's report found a man died from a self-inflicted gun shot wound. he shot two police officers after a traffic stop last wednesday then hid in a fremont home where he was surrounded by s.w.a.t. teams. the fire broke out after officers shot tear gas inside the home. the two officers are still hospitalized. one said to be improving, the other remains in critical condition. anger over multiple freeway shootings sent five east bay mayors to sacramento with a demand for immediate action. they hope a camera crackdown will put an end to crime scenes like this one. chp is blaming gangs for this violence. the mayors want the state to pay for surveillance cameras on interstate 80 and highway 4 with license plate readers. >> we are local officials so we don't have say what's occurring

over the state freeway, but what we can do is what we are doing today. >> yesterday's meeting with the governor's staff is the first step bringing state law makers onboard with these reports. mayors wanted 50,000 to pave the way for roadway improvement. >>. >> 5:07. heartbreaking loss for the san jose sharks last night. >> if you're looking for a silver lining, they did get to hear metallica at the start of the game but the energy was not enough to power team teal to a victory. the only bright spot for the sharks was this goal about midway through in the third period. in the end, the penguins came out on top 3-1. they lead that series by the same tally. devoted sharks fans are not counting out the team. >> this is the first time we made it this far. we didn't make it this far for no reason. we are in this till the end.

back to muhammad ali's people from all corners of the world continue to make their way back to muhammed ali's hometown of louisville, kentucky, all to pay their respects to the greatest that ever was. tracie potts joining us live from washington with the latest details on the icon's funeral arrangements. a former president said to give the eulogy.

>> yes. president bill clinton is set to give the eulogy along with brian gumbel, billy crystal and wife and oldest daughter of muhammed ali. it will be an interface servi service -- interfaith service. he specifically said he wanted all to be part of this service. he signed off on this back in 2010, including the long procession that will go through the streets of louisville past many of the areas where he grew up. pallbearers include will smith, actor who played ali in the movie by his name. lennox lewis, former heavyweight champ and the city of louisville is extending invitation to so many of the people who will be there for this public memorial. they set up a special website and having a festival starting

tomorrow called "i am ali." they'll have the ali museum open for free, entertainment, activities for children trying to engage people as they are there to pay their final respects. >> it will be quite the event. quite the memory of the incredible, the greatest really. people across california and the nation are mourning the death of helen chavez, the wife of cesar chavez. she died yesterday in bakersfield at the age of 88. >> if it wasn't for her, cesar wouldn't have been able to do his work. >> they had eight children when they moved here to organize field workers. her nephew tells nbc bay area helen is the one who helped keep the movement together during caesar's hunger strike. >> she was right there as a

neutral. but then later he periscoped from a dunkin' donuts and returned to his normal attitude saying i can't say on television. the best i can paraphrase is he felt he had beaten the prosecutors in the case. back in february, he testified before congress and perhaps made history with the most eye rolls and cys of anyone ever. he was later tweeted, it's hard to believe these imbocils represent the people in our government. >> janet yellen's federal open market committee was expected to raise interest rates but was faced friday with a less than stellar jobs report. she back tracked. take a listen as she used fed speak to say we'll hang out and make a decision in a while. >> monetary policy is not on a preset course. significant shifts in the outlook for the economy would necessity corresponding shifts

it's now 62 in the peninsula. san francisco at 58. as we get a closer look at south bay, 53 in morgan hills. campbell 59. saratoga at 60. temperatures feeling mild. here we've been talking about the dry weather, but out east it's all about tropical storm colin. now the storm still has wind speeds of 50 miles per hour as it continues to move over florida and then into north carolina. it will be moving out to the atlantic over the next couple of days and becoming less of a problem. dumping a lot of rain over florida. something that will be making headlines at least through today. here we are looking at some warm weather in the south bay. up to 80 in san jose. redwood city at 78. mission district at 63. 73 in santa rosa. oakland 72 and 83 today in pleasanton. seven-day forecast bottom of the

letting up just yet. that storm is moving out of florida but slowly strengthening as it moves up the atlantic coast. the storm is taking aim at parts of the carolinas. in sarasota bay, florida, people were scrambling trying to secure their boats. some were going under as strong winds and heavy rains continue to pound that part of florida. >> new video showing more sharks spotted along the california coast. the sightings forcing the closure of beaches in orange county. the one-mile strip was shut down before 4:00 p.m. yesterday and will stay closed throughout the morning. life guards reopened the beaches over the weekend after sharks were seen 50 yards offshore. sightings come a week after a woman was bitten in the waters of newport beach. a follow-up on a controversial shooting death of a gorilla at the cincinnati zoo. >> the mother of the toddler who fell into that exhibit is not going to face criminal charges. the head prosecutor says the mom didn't act in a harmful way with

her child. witnesses described her being attentive and that the boy is not hurt. zoo staff shot and killed the gorilla after he grabbed that boy around that enclosure. history made as californians are heading to the polls today. reports hillary clinton clinched the presidential nomination or has the delegates to take it to the convention. why sanders is saying don't count him out yet. >> a 32-year-old woman facing serious charges after stabbing a 12-year-old boy during a bank robbery in san leandro.

microclimate forecast. let's head over to anthony. the metering lights are on. >> let's take you over to the bay bridge metering lights. they've been turned on at the approach. backup just started within the last few minutes. slowing is starting to happen there. across the rest of the east bay, not too bad. lots of rain from antioch to highway 4 and 680. there is an accident in the south bay. it's a small one but left debris in the roadway. 101 southbound.ç 101 southbound could start to slow in san jose. >> thank you, anthony. 5:31. in contra costa county, an investigation under way after an apartment fire in antioch broke out in the attic of a building just before 3:00. the fire crews arrived and found three badly damaged units. 11 people were displaced. luckily no one was hurt but a kitten was rescued from the

fire. you see firefighters using a tiny oxygen mask to help the kitten breathe. they are so great, aren't they? >> we hope the kitten is fine. it's not clear how the fire started. the kitten shall survive. will bernie sanders? it's a turning point on election day in california. nbc news reports hillary clinton has struck the magic number of delegates to be considered the presumptive democratic nominee. >> bernie sanders says not so fast. maybe he is bringing oxygen into his campaign as well. californians head to the polls today. >> he is saying we are not pulling the plug on the campaign at this point, but the delegate count indicates the presidential primary is almost over. both candidates urging californians to turn out. talk about that magic number here. it is 2,383 to clinch the nomination. hillary clinton is one above that as of this morning. bernie sanders has 1,566

information from both the national and local races. >> san francisco rules happening today. san francisco supervisor reportedly will introduce an unorthodox idea to allow undocumented immigrants a say in the political process. "the chronicle" reports the supervisor wants to allow noncitizen parents and legal guardians the chance to vote in local school board elections. anyone with a child enrolled in the san francisco public school would be allowed to vote even though it's without documentation. voters rejected similar measures twice over the last decade. >> later today, san francisco supervisors are going to hold a second hearing on the recent passage of modified sanctuary city law. a new policy barred law enforcement officers but gives new sheriff wider discretion to

notify agents under certain circumstances. the measure prohibits use of city funds an enforcement of federal immigration law. armed robbery in the east bay. the investigation continues after a 12-year-old boy was stabbed three times in the back at a bank. what are police saying about the criminal charges? >> in the case of the suspect, she is being interviewed by detectives. first she was charged with assault by a deadly weapon and now charged with attempted murder. they are saying the stabbing was unprovoked and the severity of those injuries. the stabbing took place at a wells fargo bank on east 14th yesterday morning. police say hammond walks into this customer service area and stabbed a 12-year-old boy from

behind with a pair of scissors as the boy was sitting in a lounge chair waiting for a family member. she demanded cash from a bank and customers, robbing at least one person. police arrested hammond as she tried to run away from the scene. please are investigating why she attacked this boy in the first place. >> cases like this, the first thing that would come to mind is she is mentally unstable. that we don't know right now. >> police say the boy was in town visiting family and remains in stable condition but will need surgery. pete suratos for today in the bay. it's 5:37. san ram moan police are hoping someone will recognize the voice of an armed robbery suspect. >> open the cash register. open the cash register. >> the suspect puts a gun to the cashier's head then proceeds to

outrage growing.. sentencing of former stanford anger exploding after the sexual assault sentencing of former stanford swimmer brock turner. this as we get our first glimpse at the mug shot from his arrest. turner could receive up to ten years in prison, instead sentenced to six months in jail. >> bob redell live at stanford university. he let turner off easy. >> good morning to you. now there is a movement to remove santa clara county superior court judge from his bench. as of this morning, more than 242,000 people have signed a change.org position demanding

judge persky's removal. law enforcement for the first time has released brock turner's mug shot from the day of his arrest back in january 2015 and released the mug shot taken last week after his sentencing. it was on thursday judge persky sentenced the 20-year-old turner, a former star of the stanford swim team to six months in jail and three years probation for the sexual assault of a 22-year-old woman outside a fraternity house. turner could have faced ten years in prison. with the current sentence, he could be out on probation in as little as three months. >> going to be a little blink in his life. and for this woman, it's a lifetime of grief. >> six months is like not enough for something that serious. >> in a powerful letter to the judge which has since gone viral, the victim urged the

court for strict sentencing and i'm quoting in part, "you took away my worth, my privacy, my energy, my time, my safety. my interest si, my confidence, my own voice until today." in turner's defense his father wrote a letter saying incarceration was not an appropriate punishment for, quote, 20 minutes of action. brock turner is appealing his conviction. >> that woman's life will never be the same again. if you had your car stolen in the bay area you're not alone. the bay area is one of the top regions in the country for theft. san francisco had more than 30,000 car thefts last year. that includes oakland and hayward. san francisco had the most thefts the year before. now we are ranked number five. number one on the list is modesto. seven other california regions

are in the top ten. that includes stockton, lodi, vallejo and fairfield. high up in the grand canyon vandals defacing a rock. the graffiti says evans 16. rangers say this couple likely did it. this is the third vandalism incident at the national park in recent months. earlier in the year, actress vanessa hudgeons paid $1,000 fine for carving into a rock. frustrated travelers the topic of a meeting this morning. they are reworking tsa operations to improve screening and wait time. when it comes to delays, the bay area airports could do worse.

researchers found 85 commercial airports where flights were delayed an average of 15 minutes. no bay area airport landed in the bottom ten, all three did make the list. sfo ranked 17th in the number of flights delayed. probably because of our fog. oakland airport close behind. baltimore finished worse with 23% of flights delayed. 5:47. the $64,000 question or $64 billion question in the presidential race. how much money is donald trump actually worth? >> he's the only presidential candidate not to turn over his income tax records. scott mcgrew, left a lot of people looking elsewhere for evidence. >> crane's business is a financial newspaper did digging and discovered trump takes a $300 tax credit on his property tax for the penthouse he owns

atop trump towers. that's his primary home and that tax credit is available to people who make less than $500,000 a year. crane's asked trump's campaign about it last year. why does a billionaire take a tax credit open to people who make less than $500,000 a year? a city tax representative said it was a mistake. that same tax credit showed up on his property taxes again this year. this time the trump campaign says it's an error once again. trump did turn over financial data to journalists last month. it was a list of trump's businesses. the income they make, not the profit, just the income. wall street looking to add to monday's gains. s&p the highest this year. fed chair janet yellenç spoke 3407b hinting they may hold off

much. the fight to contain flames in monterey county continue this morning. a strike team is joining in that fight. they join a crew trying to contain the coleman fire. it's about 15% contained, but it's grown to 2,300 acres. the fire is burning within the los padres national forest. more than 120 homeowners have been evacuated so far. this is one of six large wildfires we've been telling you about burning across the golden state. >> no doubt the drought has not helped with that. california has been performing pretty well when it comes to adjusting around the drought. water resources control board announced the average household used 77,000 gallons of water per day. that is far less than the 104 gallons people were using in

heat that we had over the weekend. temperatures are feeling cooler. it's 58 in san francisco. 62 now in the peninsula. east bay you get a closer look. brentwood 59. dublin 57. north bay 57. breaking it down for san jose, a few clouds at 8:00 as we start out. quickly warming temperatures with a lot of sunshine. we'll be in the upper 70s by the early afternoon hours. up to 80 by 3:00. as you head home, temperatures will start to dip once again. 86 will be the high in gilroy. redwood city at 78. mission district 63. seven-day forecast shows our temperatures going down then right back up. 70s for the north bay and 82 in antioch and 78 today in dublin. changes here as high pressure continues to move away from us.

we'll have this trough moving in this area of low pressure giving us the stronger onshore flow with winds moving counterclockwise. it will give us a little bit of a break before another area of high pressure moves in. temperatures over the next three days staying in the 70s. san francisco will be in the 60s. 70s for the north bay, east bay and 80s in the tri-valley. i'll have another look at the forecast coming up. >> it's early. we have an accident coming in from the emeryville area. this is the east shore freeway. you see lots of cars here. we have an accident that involves a motorcycle. as you come through this area, keep in mind it's going to be a slow go. it's right before the richmond san rafael bridge, 80 westbound. another accident past that in berkeley. this area dealing with fog and that motorcycle in the roadway

police officers after a bomb detonates targeting a bus. this happened in a busy intersection in the heart of the morning rush hour. in addition to those killed, another 36 others are injured. so far, no group claimed responsibility for that attack. >> closer to home, tropical storm colin slowly winding its way and strengthening this morning. tropical storm colin is out of florida but strengthening as it moves up to the atlantic coast. this storm is taking aim at parts of the carolinas. in sarasota bay people were scrambling to secure mayor boats. some were going under as strong rains and heavy winds pounded that region. the cincinnati gorilla exhibit will open the first time since zoo officials shot and killed harambe. the mother of the toddler who fell into the exhibit last week will not face criminal charges.

the prosecutor says the mother didn't act in a harmful way with her son. witnesses described her as being attentive. the boy was not hurt. zoo staff shot and killed the gorilla after it dragged the boy around in the enclosure. >> the last known surviving search and rescue dog who worked at ground zero following the september 11 terrorist attacks has died. >> the dog is britney who would have turned 17 in august. the golden retriever's health had been declining. sadly her handlers had to put her down. she was given a hero's salute. >> she served our country deploying to the world trade centers on the 9/11 disaster, deployed to hurricane katrina, hurricane rita, several other deployments. >> the dog's body will be taken to texas a&m university where an autopsy will be performed as part of a long-running study on 9/11 search dogs. >> nice tribute there.
