race and yes, that beard. and good-bye to the greatest. friends, fans and celebrities arrive in louisville for the funeral of muhammad ali, and matt joins us for a live preview today friday, june 10th, 2016. >> announcer: from nbc news, this is "today" with matt lauer and savannah guthrie live from studio 1a in rockefeller plaza. good morning everybody. welcome to "today." it's friday morning, 7:00 a.m. on the west coast. we have carson. matt is in louisville, kentucky where later today tens of thousands of fans along with a star-studded crowd is going to say good-bye to the champ. muhammad ali. good morning to you. >> good morning. it's going to be a sad day here and inspiring day, a procession is just about to get under way through the streets of this city that muhammad loved and loved him in return.

that will be emotional seeing people lining the streets, waving to the champ, one more time. as you mentioned behind me 15,000 or more people will be inside for a memorial service. there will be eulogies and a chance to remember, the moments of his life and his career that made him one of the most iconic figures of the last 75 years. savannah and carson, a appoint yept moment for me as i walked out of my hotel room at about 5:00 in the morning, i stopped in my tracks in the hallway because it every door of every room down along the hallway was this picture. sitting on the ground and i walked down the hall insilence saying to myself morning, champ, morning, champ. it was a nice moment. >> we'll all be remembering him. we'll check in again. let's get to our top story, politics. two big endorsements for hillary clinton. first president obama saying i'm with her shortly after his meeting at the white house with bernie sanders.

then late last night, senator elizabeth warren announced support for clinton on "the rachel maddow show." let's start with peter alexander. he's at the white house for us. peter, good morning. >> reporter: good morning. if there were any questions about democratic unity those have been silenced with the president, vice president and now elizabeth warren rushing to back hillary clinton. a top democratic official telling us that senator warren's emerged as a weapon of war against donald trump. warren was the only female democratic senator who had not yet backed clinton. as we speak any moment now down the road from here, the two women are set to meet at clinton's home. overnight hillary clinton's securing the endorsement of another powerful ally. >> i'm going to do everything i can to help hillary clinton get elected and do everything i can to make sure that donald trump never comes within shouting

i am fired up and i cannot wait to get out this and campaign for hillary. >> reporter: the endorsement full of praise for his 2008 rival. >> i don't think there has ever been someone so qualified to hold this office. >> reporter: in a private hour-long meeting with bernie sanders thursday obama played presidential peacemaker giving sanders room for a graceful exit. sanders vowing to campaign through tuesday's d.c. primary showing signs he is open to backing clinton. >> i look forward to meeting with her in the near future to see how we can work together to defete donald trump. >> reporter: the 2016 finalists exchanging shots on twitter. trump swinging first, obama just endorsed crooked hillary, he wants four more years of obama but nobody else does. the clinton camp's response, delete your account. trump pouncing, how long did it take your staff of 823 people to think that up. and where are your 33,000

7:07 am
she's got this democratic sort of tour de force. whether it converts bernie supporters, the political tactical thing that needs to occur is unknown. >> as we heard peter say clinton officials are delighted with elizabeth warren, a weapon of war and can take it to donald trump. i know you have your ear to the ground. do you think she is a potential v.p. candidate for clinton? >> i think it depends on your definition of potential. she's going to be among the wide net of people that get vetted. if you know hillary clinton and people close to her, you know, she's getting to know many of the people that are on the v.p. short list and getting to know them throughout the campaign. one person she doesn't know very ll, elizabeth warren. so, while there's a chance they could get to know each other very well in a short period of time, she's campaigned with tim kaine, campaigned with tom perez. she knows mike mullens. it's more mikely she's going to
