to the latest on the orlando terror attack. this morning, we are learning more about the shooter as the hospital prepares to talk about survivors. >> michelle roberts has been live in orlando since yesterday. as we see behind you, a memorial grows at the hospital. still trying to figure out what the shooter is doing in the days leading up to these attacks. good morning. >> absolutely, good morning sam and laura. 29 people are still at the hospital. five in serious condition. later we will be getting an update from the hospital. hearing from those doctors and survivors. take a look at what we are seeing outside of this hospital, this growing memorial. back in 2013 he was reported to the fbi after he made radical comments. agents continue to look at the shooter's background.

he sent messages using a gay online dating site and had been seen at pulse night club several times. the fbi will be looking for any clues at his apartment and on his cell phone. >> unfortunately, he's evil. we happen to be the gun store he picked. there is nothing else i can say. it's horrible. >> hate cannot bring an end to hate. only love can do that. >> investigators have begun to recreate the crime scene using evidence and witness testimony to determine exactly what happened. if anyone else could have been involved in planning this attack, but officials have said mateen appears to be a home grown terrorist. last night downtown there was a memorial, a vigil. thousands turned out. there were two more vigils planned in orlando today. as you can see, this growing memorial, these are popping up all over town. an emotional day as everybody

has their thoughts and prayers with those fighting to survive. back to you. >> thank you, michelle. kris sanchez joins us now. all 49 people killed in that attack have now been identified. >> their names are public. we are starting to find out who they are. in this age of connectedness, one of the hardest parts of mass shooting is putting the names with the faces. there's where you see the true loss of life. with all the technology, people were connected until their very last moment. that is a snapchat posted by 25-year-old amanda olviar. she died in the shooting with her best friend. eddie justice was on his phone with his mother. don torres was on the phone when omar mateen was gunning people down. they work in travel and pharmacies. here is what we know about them.

the suspect stabbed the man near his home then went inside the home and killed his partner. she was also a police employee. a 3-year-old was taken hostage during the attacks, but managed to survive. an elite police unit stormed that home and killed the attacker. investigators say the suspect was arrested before due to ties to terrorist groups. certainly a lot of grief in the small community in new jersey. friends and family of christina grimmie gathered last night to remember the talented young singer. she was a former contestant on "the voice." the 22-year-old was shot and killed friday night during a meet and greet after her concert in orlando. the gunman described as an obsessed fan killed himself after shooting her. new this morning, another vestage of old las vegas bites the dust. two hours ago demolition teams imploded the riviera hotel. they went down amidst fireworks.

forecast for 5:00. you see the arrows coming in from the northwest. it will be 15 to 20 mile-an-hour winds. a little bit higher right along the coast. highs today reaching the 60s and 70s. this is absolutely perfect. 76 in los gatos. 66 in san mateo. taking a look at the seven day forecast, doesn't stay this way. make sure you enjoy it. the giants last night just smashed the brewers scoring 11 points. hopefully we can do it again today. we'll have perfect weather, more clouds moving in by the end of the game. slightly cooler temperatures today. will once again be in the 60s and 70s inland. this cold front moves in shows we could have a few quick moving scattered showers moving in by thursday. something we'll be watch as far as how much rain we could see during that time.

firefighters battled a massive fire at aac we learned that one person was killed as firefighters battle a massive fire at a vacant office building in downtown los angeles last night. city fire officials say more than 140 firefighters were battling those flames. three people had to be rescued. body of one person was found after the fire was brought under control. the arson unit right now is investigating the cause of that fire. in san francisco, the man police say robbed high end union square stores multiple times since march is behind bars. >> san francisco police arrested kevin dale burton from

hospital prepares to talk about the survivors. >> michelle roberts has been live in orlando covering this since yesterday. we see the memorial at the hospital where you are. you learned one of the shooter's co-workers is speaking out about the attacker's rage. good morning. >> good morning. we are here outside the hospital and good news overnight being tweeted out they are seeing improving conditions and later we'll get a full update and hear from the doctors that treated dozens of people at the hospital a couple blocks away from the scene. look at this growing memorial. emotional to see all these messages and candles left behind. investigators have been very busy. they've been recreating the crime scene at pulse night club using evidence and witness testimony to determine exactly what happened. they will also be continuing to interview the gunman's family, friends and co-workers. there are reports mateen sent messages using a gay dating site

and had been seen at pulse night club several times. federal officials say mateen appears to be a home grown terrorist. >> he would kick things and throw things and slam his hands down and have a violent outburst of rage. he always referred to every other race, religion, gender in a very derogatory negative way. >> reporter: in 2013 mateen was on the fbi watch list for remarks he made about a terror connection. if he tried to buy a gun then the fbi would have been notified. because the case was closed, notification was not required. mateen did buy the weapons used on sunday legally. president obama will be in orlando on thursday to support this community that has been through so much. live in orlando, michelle roberts, nbc bay area news. thank you very much. she mentioned 53 people who

i said, "i love you, too." >> 18-year-old akira murray was among the youngest people killed. she was in orlando celebrating her high school graduation. the eldest victim was 50. she was a mother who beat cancer twice but was no match for an ar-15. she had gone dancing with her 21-year-old son. he survived, she did not. they are described as beloved sons and daughters and friends and they are people who worked in travel industry and pharmacies. they were students at florida universities and beyond. some of them died alongside their best friends. one was a social worker who worked with the elderly, even lived with his grandmother. he could take care of her. you can read more about the victims and tributes that poured out. you see them here on air and online. lady gaga was out and this morning we saw prince william

serious damage. >> sharon we understand the homeowner says this happened more than a dozen times before? he must be in an area where cars can slam through there? >> yes. we are off 680 off ramp on jackson street. a busy intersection in this area take a look behind me at this damage. the owner has been in and out of the house this morning talking us to. looking in a daze over the damage, but surprisingly very calm. he says he's been through this 19 times before. the owner says he was heading to the back of the house around 11:00 last night when he heard a loud rumbling noise. he thought it was an earthquake. then heard his neighbors yelling that a truck slammed into his house. >> i park made car here to prevent my house from getting

hit. didn't do any good. the guy in the truck hit my car and pushed it into the garage. >> my house is behind him. the driver was pretty intoxicated. he seemed like he was drinking, obviously, a huge amount. you can see that the homeowner had set up these big cement poles trying to keep this from happening to his house again. this time apparently you can see it did not work. fortunately though, no one was seriously injured. and we are told that police arrested the driver for drunk driving. live in san jose, sharon katsuda, today in the bay. the oakland police scandal continues to expand. nbc bay area learned the contra costa sheriff's department is investigating allegations that one of its employees had sex with a woman who tells the media she was a prostitute.

that woman says she slept with 24 law enforcement officials, some of them while she was only 17 years old. they include members of the oakland police department, richmond police department, alameda county sheriff's department, livermore police and someone based in stockton. a fifth officer has been put on leave as a result of this scandal. 5:39. prompted by the controversial stanford sexual assault case, two state law makers are pushing for an expansion of the definition of rape. many states have adopted the fbi definition which labels rape as pen penetration with any body part. the bill was introduced to change the wording. a juror in the brock turner case is expressing outrage to the judge about what he calls a, quote, ridiculously lenient

traveling to orlando thursday to pay his respects to the victims of the pulse night club shooting. today, he says he is focused on isis. obama scheduled a meeting of his national security council. part of an ongoing review on efforts to degrade and destroy that terrorist group. this meeting will take place at the treasury department in washington and a series of national security council meetings in recent months. the shooting in orlando as the nation celebrates pride month. >> safety is the number one concern for san francisco's pride parade in two weeks. stephanie chuang following that story for us. there is a lawsuit to put more safety measures in place during these celebrations. >> that's right. it's already going on. there is heightened sensitivity over security after orlando, understandable, there were already a couple of people who said they were the victims of violence in previous events.

this man was a bystander at the civic center where there was the annual pride festival when he was shot in the arm. an l.a.-based attorney says he represents man who were hurt in a stampede. there's been a pattern of violence and wants pride to have more security. the same kind we saw at super bowl city events earlier this year, including barricades, metal detecting wands and bag searches. >> people tried to shoot us. people who can address the situation. >> there is a special place in hell for personal injury attorney whose want to use terror attack events to try to garner media attention to line their pockets and clients' pockets with money. >> a judge in san francisco superior court is said to hear

the lawsuit. pride says the suit has no merit. last november, they did end upsetling a different lawsuit filed by a man shot at that civic center festival in 2013. the supervisor said pride organizers as well as sfpd representative will talk about security for this pride celebration that's happening june 25th and june 26th. stephanie chuang, today in the bay. it is 5:48 right now. we have photos of three more people wanted by san jose police in connection with these donald trump rallies. police say the men attended the trump rally in downtown san jose earlier this month and committed various acts of violence. it was quite the scene down there. so far, nine people have been arrested from the same rally. all for assault-related charges. some of those people arrested are minors. police are looking for eight

santa clara valley water leaders are getting set to ease drought restrictions for 2 million customers. district members meet tonight to discuss a 20% cut in water usage for the second half of this year. that's down from the current 30% reduction standard established. lawn watering will be allowed three days a week up from the current two days allowed. bring back those lush lawns if you can. we'll see. the temperature is going to heat up. we'll need a little drink of water. >> this weekend it is going to be hot. enjoy the nice mild weather the next couple of days. we may have a little rain in the north bay. we'll talk about that in a second. let's head outside to see what it looks like as you get this day started. a lot of sunshine. a live look at sunol as the sun comes up. we have all clear skies all around the bay area. >> it will be once again cooler with our temperatures now in the mid 50s for san francisco and the east bay. 56 also in the south bay as we drop in to get a closer look, we

have upper 40s in san martin. it is 48 and 51 in willow glen. our winds coming in onshore northwesterly at 15 to 20 miles per hour all throughout the day. a little more gusty along the coast. half moon bay, wind speeds at 26 to maybe 30 miles per hour. then it stays up to breezy in the start of the day tomorrow. that brisk onshore flow keeps our temperatures in check. we are going to be slightly below average for this time of year with some 60s and 70s all around the bay area, oakland today 70. pleasanton, a high of 74. we are looking forward to another great game out there at at&t park. giants won last night scoring 11 points. hopefully we can do it again today. first pitch will be at 7:15. temperatures will be in the lower 60s dropping back to 58 by the end of the game. we will be slightly cooler today

fargo, all in the 9:00 p.m. hour. the man then fled in a stolen car and police say was driving recklessly so he stopped the pursuit. the man police say robbed a high end union square stores multiple times since march is behind bars. san francisco police arrested kevin dale burton from pittsburgh. investigators say over the past few months he stole more than 100,000 dollars in designer clothing, pursers and accessories. he is facing multiple charges of robbery, burglary and assault. he works with at least two other suspects. they are still at large. a possible break in a murder case in a san francisco construction site last friday. investigators now say they have a motive. sources tell nbc bay area the suspect, 23-year-old los angeles woman, fatally stabbed a female construction worker because she was denied access to the construction site's port-a-potty. that young woman faces a murder charge. the suspect is likely linked to
