"early today" starts right now. good morning, i'm dara brown. breaking overnight, floored officials are searching for a 2-year-old boy drag the into the lake by an alligator. it occurred neared the grand resort at walt disneyworld last night. the family was on vacation from

nebraska. there are 50 officers involved in the search, and it happened in front of the boy's parents. sarah join us now. what is the latest there? zrchlts good morning, the orange county sheriff's office just a wrapped up a press conference on this horrific story. the boy has not been located. right now, they're bringing in new personnel, fresh eyes, they say, to give them a fresh look at the area. they're also bringing in additional sonar units, a dive team and aerial unit to aid in the search. right now, they're calling it a search and rescue operation, although they are acknowledging that a lot of time has passed, and the situation is growing more difficult. this little boy was wading in the water only about a foot into the water with his family nearby, when the alligator attacked the four to seven foot alligator, dragging him into the

water. the son tried to wrest alligator and was not successful in freeing his son. they're acknowledging the difficulty of the situation, but still, they say, holding out hope. >> this is still a search and rescue operation. still a search and rescue operation. we are very hopeful. we are hoping for the best. sometimes we get the worst, but we're certainly hoping for the best. >> reporter: and fish and game said they've managed to capture and euthnise four alligators. meanwhile, disney has released a statement expressing condolences saying they're devastated by what has happened. they're pledging to continue to help the family who right now is with counselors. back to you. >> hearbreaking situation there, sarah in orlando, thank you so

much. well, investigators now believe the current wife of omar mateen may have known her husband was planning the attack and even attempted to talk him out of it. nbc was the first to report she admitted to driving mateen to the nightclub on one occasion. officials are deciding whether to press charges against her. nbc miguel almaguer has more. >> reporter: nbc news has learned, noor, said she tried to talk her husband out of the deadliest mass shooting in u.s. history. >> did you know your husband is a terrorist? >> the young mother was believed to be staying with her father-in-law. >> she is a very good girl. very honest. >> reporter: federal agents tell nbc news she was with her husband when he test test bought ammunition and a holster, and those familiar with the case said she once drove her husband to pulse, because he wanted to

scope out the club. >> people are getting shot. >> reporter: where he would later kill 49 people. the couple lived two hours from the crime scene from this modest apartment since 2012. she had been married before. she met her ex-husband in ramala and she was divorced seven years ago. >> i have known her since she was 3 years old. >> reporter: neighbors are devastated. >> after she left, i have no idea what kind of a girl she is. all i know, she was a very good girl. we're also learning new details into the gay tendencies he may have exhibited. this is what his ex-wife said to don lemon last night. >> he did have a different side of him that he could not open up to his father about, the fact that he liked to go to nightclubs, the fact that he loved to drink. it doesn't surprise me that he

might be gay. and it doesn't surprise me that he was leading two totally different lives and was in such deep conflict within himself. >> joining us from orlando this morning is nbc's blake mccoy. what can you tell us about the investigation into his current wife? >> reporter: dara, good morning. all along, authorities have said there could be charges in this case, and this morning, they're zeroing in on the wife, noor salman. she met him on a dating site and they have a three and a half year old son together. she had been talking to authorities, she was with the shooter when he bought ammunition and one time, she brought him here too pulse nightclub to scope out the place. she said she tried to talk him out of any attack, but never alerted any authorities. that's the stem of any potential charges. fbi agents did visit her

parents' home in northern california yesterday. when we asked when the charges could come down, and they said their priority is a thorough investigation, not a deedy one. >> blake, thanks for the report from orlando. meanwhile, 27 of the 53 injured remain hospitalized, six still listed in critical condition. one is profoundly ill. one of the victims held hostage am the bathroom with the shooter. yesterday, she read from a poem she wrote, expressing the weight of being alive while her friends are not. >> the guilt of feeling grateful to be alive is heavy. wanting to survive but not sure if the people around you are ready. i feel guilty about screaming about my legs in pain, because i k feel nothing, like the other

>> a trump spokesperson clarified his remarks, saying he was referring to iraqi soldiers. the democratic primary is officially over after washington, d.c. held its contest yesterday. hillary clinton was the overwhelming winner over bernie sanders. 79% to 21%. the results came shortly after clinton and sanders held a private face-to-face meeting at a hotel in an effort to unify the party over the next several days. that meeting lasted well over an hour and a half, and both campaigns hailed it as a positive step forward. no word yet on whether sander also drop out of the race and formally back clinton ahead of the democratic convention. check out this unbelievable video from southern china that shows cars being swept away by rangi raging floodwaters. at least one person is missing, and thousands have been displaced. here at home, things are really starting to heat up, and nbc meteorologist bill karins is here with more on that.

we want to get you caught up on the breaking news overnight. a 2-year-old boy was dragged into a lake near disney resort. the attack happened in front of the boy's horrified parents. the boy, who was on vacation with his family from nebraska was playing in the water when the alligator attacked. the father desperately tried to rescue his sons. there were signs that said do not swim in the area. the alligator is described between four and seven feet long. this a live picture, which is based in the seven seas lagoon area. 50 officers are involved. representatives for disney say the thoughts are with the family. the orlando nightclub gunman
