this is an "nbc news special report." here's lester holt. >> good day. we are on the air because law enforcement officials in orlando are providing an update on the massacre investigation, and perhaps offering some enlightenment of the wife and what she knew. special agent ron harper is speak i speaking. >> governor rick scott, and orlando mayor buddy dyer. and i would like to thank all of my partners standing here with me today and many others who have come from all over the nation to assist us in investigating this terrible attack on our community. the level of cooperation and partnership that we have seen has been phenomenal. in the last several days, it has been completely overwhelminging. we continue to stand shoulder to shoulder and work together to investigate this horrific

attack. we wanted to take the time to give you an update on what we are doing, and again, ask for your help in certain areas of the investigation. because it is an ongoinging investigation, there is still much that i cannot share with you. so i'd ask for your patience, and when i tell you that there are certain things that i cannot discuss at this time. we continue to cover many leads. we want to make shure that we share information that when we share it with you, it is not only timely, and that it is accurate. we owe it to the victims and the families and the loved ones and the community to bear witness with finite accuracy. the fbi office of victim assistance, and the rap p pid deployment team is working together with the city of orlando and many of the state and local counterparts and community agencies to provide resources and support victims

and the next of kin and the loved ones at the familys a s assistance center. we ve recently moved the family assistance center and i will share where it is located at the camping world stadium open from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. wednesday through friday. and 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on saturday. and noon to 8:00 p.m. on sunday. for more information regarding that i would ask you the please visit fbi.gov/orlandovictims. that is all one word. there have been media reports about alleged attacks of religious or ethnic communities that could be perceived in response to the shooting at the pulse. let me be beyond clear on that point, civil rights violations are a priority for the fbi. we will investigate reported incidents against individuals

based upon any class, any protected class through race, religion and sexual orientation. any known threats or incidents should be reported to the local fbi office or local law enforcement agency. let me tell you a little bit about where we are today with the the investigation. the fbi's response team remains at the pulse and we continue to process the crime scene. as you might imagine, this is a methodical time-sensitive work that include tras jekt ri analysis and crime scene mapping. it is imperative that we get it right. we are committed to staying here for longs it takes to carefully process the vast crime scene. i will tell you that efforts are under way to reduce our footprint in an attempt to have the city return to some sense of

normalcy. we are doing our best to work as efficiently and effectively as possible, but remember, the goal is to maintain the sbeg integri the crime scene and the evidence that we collect. we continue to seek and follow all leads about the activities a of the shooter, and the shooter's family omar mateen, and i will not mention his game again. we have listed more information on the fbi.gov that includes photos and additional information about the shooter. we want to hear from any member of the public who has had any connection or involvement with or any information about the shooter. no matter how big or small you think that information may be,

in the plea i asked you in the beginning of the investigation, we want to hear from you. we appreciate your help, because we have received volumes of information and leads and tips that we have been following up on, and will continue to follow up on. and no matter how small the information may be, the fbi stands ready to receive your information. and so you can call fbi, 1-800-call-fbi or by submitting us a tip at online at tips.fbi.gov. again, we ask anyone who may have had contact with the sho shooter to report that information to the fbi. no piece of information is too small. no piece of information will not be kept, will not be not confidential. we will keep that information.

and this investigation is ongoing, and we cant not provide more information here, and these are by the very nature, because we want to tell you what happened in a thorough and accurate way, but realizing that it will take some time. i ask for your patience as we go about our work. we will continue to keep you informed of the progress and continue to have the briefings as information dictates and share that with the entire commu community. once again, i'd like to thank our partner agencies, and most of all, i want to thank the orlando community. your courage, compassion and reresilience in the face of a great tragedy are an inspiration to us all. orlando strong. before i depart and turn it over to the chief, i want to the remind you that there are two sites that i hope that the public will take advantage of. the first one being fbi.go

fbi.gov/orlandovictims and that has information about the assistance center, and what you can do as a victim or family member of one of the victims. and so now, if you happy to have a vehicle that is is abandoned because of the crime scene, we v have et is up a phone number 407-246-helt or 407-246-4357, and if we are not able to release the vehicle to you at this time, we will provide you information as to when that vehicle will be available and what you need to do to take possession of the vehicle. i now turn it over to the police chief don mena. >> good afternoon. many of you, and many people from the public have been asking how the officers are doing, and especially the first responders from that night. our, yesterday, 300 or more officers came to a critical stress debriefing.

the purpose of the debriefing was for the officers to talk about how they are dealing with their fears and talk about the experiences to help them to cope and deal with this tragic situation. so after the main group talks for a bit, and gives us instructions by the counselors they broke out into classrooms and groups of 10 or 15 and had more sessions with trained counselors to talk about the circumstances that they are experiencing and how they dealing and how to deal with the management of the stress in responding to such a tragic incident. this morning we did the exact same thing with our s.w.a.t. team and all of the members responded including the officers who were involved in the shoo g shooting. i can tell you that these are some of the most courageous and heroic and toughest men i know, and men who have seen things, murders and homicides and unfortunately dead infants, and

horrific car crashes, but no one can prepare you for what those officers encountered that night. they stood toe-to-toe, and went face-to-face with a mass murderer and they performed courageously and heroically and i'm extremely proud of them. so, after all of the stress debriefings take place, we will offer free counseling continuing to those officers and several agencies have come forward to offer that counselling to make sure that the officers are dealing with that correctly. now i want to talk about media contacting those officers who have been involved in the shooting. as per our policy and procedure, those officers who were involved in the shooting are relieved of duty and are prohibited from talking about the shooting or

>> good afternoon. i'm lee bentley, the united states attorney for the middle district of florida. for the last 3 1/2 days, it has been extremely difficult for me personally, for my office, for the department of justice and for our law enforcement partners. like you, and the city of orlando, we are grieving for the 49 victims of the horrific attack of the pulse nightclub. but while grieving, we are continuing to investigate the crime that occurred and all of the facts and the circumstances that led up to it. to today, i am not going to speculate respect to any charges that might be brought or indeed as to whether or not any charges will be brought.

involved in this investigation. our state partners have been wonderful. starting with the florida department of law enforcement, the city of orlando police department, the orange county sheriff's office and of course the state pros ecutors have bee cooperating as well. the statewide prosecutor as well as the orange county state attorney jeff ashton who is behind me. i also would like to thank my colleague at the main department of jus tis, and i have spoken regularly to our deputy attorney general salary yates and the deputy attorney general lor ret lynch. ly be speaking to them after this press conference, and i cannot tell you how concerned the attorney general and everybody else in the department of justice is about the victims in this case, and they are

devoting all of their attention to this investigation. now, i'd like to turn it over to a number of the elected officials -- we have been watching a news conference by law enforcement, and update the on the investigation into the orlando mas massacre, and the officials are careful to not touch on the specifics of the case, but more dealing with the requests and other things that they have been watching. i want to bring in pete williams right now. pete, the lee bentley there, he noted that he did not want to talk about any possible charges and i want to take a stretch and assume that is with regard to the wife of omar mateen who is central in this investigation. >> without doubt. she is the person under the most risk of charges, and frankly, lest lester, i would be surprised if charges were not filed in coming days there. is not any urgency to it, and it is not as if they are trying to find someone else to get the

charges filed or worried about someone escaping, and they are taking their time, and she has important information to share, because she was closest to omar mateen, but she is facing federal exposure from the authorities, because we know on the night of the shooting as omar mateen was leaving the house, she feared that he was going to go to the pulse nightclub and carry tout shooting. he told her that he was going to visit the friends, and that is not the fear. she told the fbi that she begged him not the shoot anyone and not the commit any act of terror, and he left the house, and she was afraid that is what he was going to do, but still, she did not call the police or warn anyone, and that could well expose her to the legal liability. >> and she is not in custody right now, and voluntarily coming in to talk to the authorities? >> or they are going to her, yes, that is right. >> and thank you, pete williams. and we will continue to watch this as it unfold, and we will have continuing coverage

follow label directions. a product like this, roundup, has this wand. it has this cone on the end so you can go right over the top of the weed. this is just water in here right now. you'll go right over the top of that weed and spray the solution. as it comes out, you don't need to go crazy. in other words, you don't to overdo it. the way these products work is they enter the weed through the leaves where the water and the sun comes in and it goes down to the root and kills it. >> kills itty root. >> but if you do this on grass, it will kill grass, too. if you have pets, this is not pet safe. if you're going to use it, you need to keep the pets off the area for at least 24 hours. >> donna wants to know how to spot clean outdoor cushions. >> oh, boy. >> this is such an easy thing i don't know why people think they have to buy crazy chemicals. i just want you to get some dish soap and warm water. all of your outdoor cushions are made with some version of plastic. whether it's rayon or polyester.
