i'm sam brock. >> i'm laura garcia-cannon. let's get to that forecast. >> we'll have great weather for much of the bay area. i mean cooler temperatures and it's also great we do get rain in the forecast. especially for the north bay. we are tracking that on the radar as it moves closer into the north bay and temperaturewise we start out in the mid 50s, low 60s in the east bay with highs up to 65 there. off and on rain for the north bay. light shower possible in san francisco as well as the peninsula. i'll give you clarification on that and mike is showing that it's all clear now through fremont. >> we have that verified. we saw the crews clear right here. no more distraction. look at your map. traveling down past the truck scales and mission boulevard. zooming into the south bay. southbound 85 in saratoga, a new

crash reported there. one lane was blocked. the slow lane, no slowing. chp have yet to arrive. rest of the bay moves well on the peninsula. redwood city there is a water main break reported. bob redell will give us a report when he arrives on the scene. breaking news overnight. two people shot in the mission in san francisco hours ago. >> stephanie chuang live there now. active scene. >> good morning. this is where the double shooting happened. a tow truck arrived in the last couple of minutes. to tow away a honda civic, the focus of these investigators' concentration this morning. they are still using their flash lights looking around that car. we see the driver side window is broken, maybe shot out. we did confirm with police two people were shot. we have video of the ambulance

taking away those victims. we know both people were alive when first responders took them to sf general. it's unclear what condition they are in right now. homicide investigators have been here this morning. one officer said that was to, quote, cover all the bases. this is the third shooting here in the mission district. late sunday night a couple of blocks away from here a man survived getting shot in the face after an argument. police did arrest the suspected gunman. after tuesday morning, just a few blocks away at 20th a man died after he was shot. there were no arrests. as far as we know, there have been no arrest after this morning's double shooting. back here live, you are looking at a tow truck getting ready to take away that vehicle. we are just a block away from 16th and mission at b.a.r.t. station. there are quite a bit of people

around. we don't know if there have been witnesses or if there have been any people investigated. there is minor traffic impact on 17th street. now to a story you'll only see on nbc bay area. jumping into action to try to save a fallen san jose police officer. we spoke exclusively with a man who did all co-to help the officer before he died. >> kris sanchez is live at san jose police department headquarters to tell us about his quick thinking and resourcefulness. >> you hope people will do the right thing when it matters the most. community members have been thanking the officer, but also that good samaritan. they've been leaving notes and trying to honor the officer. it was a community member who tried to keep that officer

alive. >> he is laying down. he's badly hurt. ambulance right away. >> that is the voice of dan sullivanç who saw the crash happened and jumped to action. he used the officer's own radio to call dispatchers for help and initiated cpr until that help arrived. a day later, he showed up to pay his respects to the officer and try to find a little bit of peace for himself as well. >> it's been really hard to sleep. when you see something like this tragic, a fallen officer and all they do for all of us, it's really tough to take. tough to take. >> the officer was a family man, father of two young children.

this is video that he, himself, shot of the unity tour in washington, d.c., which honored fallen officers. the next time those officers ride, they will ride in memory of the 11-year veteran of the sapd. the memorial service is still in the works. today there will be a procession as his body is delivered to the funeral home where that will happen. kris sanchez, today in the bay. it is 5:05. another scare after a crash involving an officer. this video just into our newsroom happened about two hours ago. no one was hurt in that crash. police have not released details about how it all happened.

>> this time it's rick orosco, a retired oakland police commander and inspector for the alameda county d.a.'s office. the woman at the center is a self-described prostitute who says she slept with more than 20 police officers. there is more drama at opd. a different scandal prompted the mayor to fire the interim police chief who is on the job for a total of 120 hours. assistant chief paul figeuro will step into the department. mayor schaaf admits she made a mistake rushing into hiring deputy chief farrow. he is not the right fit to lead the department. >> information raised concerns for me about whether he can effectively lead this department at this particular moment in time and during this critical transition.

>> mayor schaaf did not give any indication what led specifically to her decision but the chief of b.a.r.t. police did issue a statement suggesting farrow was involved in an extramarital affair more than a decade ago. it's hard to believe but today marks one year since the tragic balcony collapse in berkeley that killed six young peop peop people. last night friends and family gathered to celebrate the young lives that were lost. father brendan mcbride believes coming together can help ease the pain for victims' families and their countless friends. >> the first anniversary is always difficult. if you lose a parent, the first -- with a child it triples the pain.

new balcony construction and inspection rules. more than 400 have been or will be repaired as a result. the latest on terror in orlando. city devastated by the deadliest mass shooting in american history is going to get a visit today from president obama and vice president joe biden. both will meet with survivors and families of victims. they will stand in solidarity with the community there. most importantly the lgbtq community. the president will visit with first responders and hopes to offer them comfort on behalf of the american impeachment the focus remains on the killer's wife. investigators are now saying the gunman omar mateen told her he was going to visit friends on saturday and she feared that he was actually going to attack that club but she pleaded with him not to do anything violent. though she did not contact police. as the investigation moves

forward, the fbi is asking for the public to help out. >> regardless how small that information may be, i want to hear about it. >> 25 survivors remain hospitalized this morning. six are still listed in critical condition. new this morning, nearly 15-hour filibuster on gun control on capitol hill finally comes to an end. democrats are calling it a victory. dozens of them, along with a few republicans, spoke nonstop since yesterday morning to bring about a vote on gun control measures following the orlando massacre. that includes what president obama and hillary clinton have been calling for, to ban people on watch lists from getting guns. it was led by chris murphy of connecticut. it's going to be a nice, hot weekend. >> good morning. in between we'll have cool

highway 101 shut down in both directions due to a growing wildfire that started yesterday and is burning near the state beach. more than 1100 acres burned with zero containment. this is a live look from santa barbara county. our telemundo crew is on the scene, as well. zero containment at this point. structures are threatened and many mahomes evacuated. >> big fire here in the south bay yesterday. we brought it to you as breaking news all morning. there are 15 mom and pop businesses in that strip mall. 12 of them, all a total loss. investigators say the fire may have started in a trash bin behind the restaurant donna maria. it spread quickly. the older building was built before sprinkler systems were required. the flames destroyed the house

takeover target. >> interesting talk this morning. google might be interested. >> that's right. that's conventional wisdom. we've seen twitter share price rise. the idea gained traction after microsoft bought linkedin. there are two logical big companies, facebook and google. google seems to be the favorite among those trying to get the future. it was a year last weekend by t by the way jack dorsey returned as ceo of twitter. shares are up on google talk but down about 13% in the last six months. we are still waiting for spacex to get the video from its drone ship in the atlantic ocean. the attempt to land the latest falcon rocket did not work. live video failed.

lives lost in the orlando night club shooting through its shiny bright lights next weekend during san francisco's gay pride weekend. 49 l.e.d. lights will forever be dedicated to the victims. the creators say san francisco serves as a beacon of love and hope to the lgbtq community. they are committed to spreading the light of love. that is amazing. it's one thing to light up a building for a day as the world does, but to do it for decades to have those lights dedicated is powerful. >> we'll bring you that illumination there. they are going to bring up the heat. that is starting i guess tomorrow. >> one day left with nice cool temperatures that comes along with spotty rain nor the north bay and rest of the bay area will see a mix of sun and clouds. you may have a quick passing shower. it's all clear as we get a live look from the south bay. beautiful sunrise. we have a weather system that is

very close by. that is stirring things up farther north. it's showing we do have rain. here is the circulation that area of low pressure that is offshore and producing rain for the pacific northwest. as it continues to move closer to the bay area, a lot of this rain is sizzling out but giving us the potential of rain and unusual moisture streaming through for the middle of june. futurecast shows we will start to see this rain working its way into the north bay later on this morning and early afternoon. that is where most of the measurable rain will be. as this moves farther south, some of that rain dries out. it will be scatter the and hard to tell when and where we will see that rain. you want to keep checking out the nbc bay area app to get a view of the radar. 1/4 inch in santa rosa and

air crash- yptiaofficialssay the developing news on that egyptair crash. egyptian officials say they zeroed in on the wreckage of the jetliner that crashed last month in the mediterranean. the u.s. vessel under contract by the egyptian government has apparently identified several main locations of the wreckage. there is still no indication if the black boxes have been recovered. 66 people were killed in that crash. new details on the alligator attack that led to the death of a 2-year-old boy at disney's grand floridian resort in orlando. lane gray was playing in about a foot of water in the lagoon when the gator grabbed the boy. >> i can't imagine what his parents were going through. crews recovered his fully intact

body after a 15-hour search. they found five additional alligators that crews killed, then cut open during the search to try to find the toddler. authorities believe the alligator that snatched the boy was not among those caught. 5:26. a $50,000 reward and national campaign is bringing renewed hope to catching a brutally violent serial rapist, murderer and burglar. he's known as the east area rapist. he terrorized california communities throughout the '70s and '80s. investigators believe the killer is still alive and at this point about 60 to 75 years old. he committed 12 murders, 45 rapes and more than 120 burglaries. we are hearing from a victim who doesn't want to be identified. >> if they catch this guy, they should lay him on the floor and let everybody that he raped get to do whatever they want to him.

thursday morning at the beautiful golden gate bridge. clouds are moving. in we are tracking a rare chance of june showers. >> a little something for everyone. >> thank you for joining us. i'm sam brock. >> i'm laura garcia-cannon. let's talk about this rain. >> along with that comes cooler temperatures today. much of that rain will be in the north bay. spotty showers for san francisco toward the northern parts of the east bay and elsewhere. we won't see a lot of that, but once again it's a north bay thing. we'll start to see the clouds moving in there as well as san francisco as you get a look at that camera in the south bay. it is all clear at 53 with highs today reaching 68. we'll stay in the 60s across the board. you'll want to make sure you grab the umbrella just in case. i'll talk about that and what else to expect as temperatures ramp up this weekend. here you go. >> we'll take that. south bay clear for weather but not the traffic. the toll plaza starts to stack

this morning we confirmed with police two people were shot here. we have video of the ambulance taking away those victims. we also know both people were alive when first responders took them but we don't know what condition they are in now. about a dozen investigators and crime scene specialists were here about three hours collecting as much information and evidence as they could. we could see the driver's window was broken, possibly shot out. this is the third shooting in the mission here in roughly the last four days. late sunday night just a couple of blocks away from this scene a man survived getting shot in the face after an argument. police did make an arrest in that. just a few blocks away from here a man died after he was shot. there were no arrests and have been no arrests after this morning's double shooting. we are just a block away from the popular 16th and mission b.a.r.t. stop.

they do for all of us. it's tough to take. >> officer katherman was a family man, father of two young children with a wife. the memorial service is still being planned. today there will be a procession as his body is taken to the funeral home. 5:346789 dozens gathered at 13th and franklin streets in oakland to call for peace. they are mourning the death of a man shot and killed tuesday after leaving a funeral. three other people suffered gun shot wounds are expected to survive. police are looking for suspects. for the judge who presided over the stanford sex assault case is taking an extended vacation. judge aaron persky went on vacation yesterday, three days earlier than planned. all of this coming one day after prosecutors had him removed from

hearing another sexual assault case. persky has been under fire since he sentenced brock turner to six months in jail for sexually assaulting an unconscious woman in front of a dumpster on campus. he could have sentenced brock turner to up to ten years in prison. four days later and the orlando community is picking up the pieces following the mass shooting inside a night club early sunday morning. today president obama and vice president biden will travel there to stand in solidarity with the people of orlando. today in the bay's liane greg has more. >> when president obama and vice president biden visit orlando they'll spend time with first responders, families of victims and survivors of the largest mass murder in u.s. history. this video captures the moments when police entered the night club. >> they performed heroically.

>> reporter: the fbi recovered omar mateen's cell phone and later collected a computer and camera. he had downloaded terrorist-related material but still no clear indication of a motive. and no signs of plans for another attack. >> there is nothing that suggests there was any other target other than the pulse night club. >> federal officials are focusing on his wife who told them her husband was going to visit friends saturday but feared he was going to attack the club. she pleaded with him not to do anything violent but never called police. as the investigation moves forward, the fbi has renewed its plea to the public. >> regardless how small that information may be, i still want to hear about it. >> looking for answers as a grieving community tries to cope. and today, support from the president. investigators did put an end to speculation and said mateen acted alone.

witnesses sought there may have been another shooter. there is no evidence he scoped out any other gay club. the attack pushed concerns to other parts of the country including here. they are adding safety measures to the pride celebration in san francisco next weekend. the judge could make a final ruling on a lawsuit calling for increased security. city leaders and castro business owners agreed to add extra safety measures and police presence following a closed-door meeting yesterday. a decision on that lawsuit is in limbo. one restaurant manager tells us his concerns were addressed in yesterday's meeting. >> everybody is dealing with the reality of the situation, how many people we are going to have to deal with and the new challenges brought on with the recent event, but i have a really good feeling coming out of this meeting. >> the police department will be increasing presence during pride

week and particularly on pride weekend. there will be more visibility with respect to police officers. we also have gay venues around san francisco. pride of course is a very important weekend in san francisco with over a million people expected to attend the event. no reform, no cash. that's what some are calling for until san francisco police implement use of force reform. some community groups are demanding the full board take away $200 million from the department's budget. the police department has come underç intense scrutiny over excessive use of force. sfpd is working on reforms including a change at the top following greg suhr's regular nation. >> cool weather today then swimsuit time by the weekend.

hill where the filibuster ended a few hours ago. >> while you were sleeping, they were talking on and on to try to force a vote that now it appears may happen. democrats going after two things here. universal background checks for people who buy guns at gun shows or on the internet. it's a loophole democrats have long tried to close. no fly, no buy. people on the no fly list being barred from buying weapons. right now they can. backers of this measure say they should not be able to. looks like the senate may eventually vote on both after this all-night talk-a-thon is forcing that vote. >> donald trump wants to talk about those issues with the nra. the nra says they are open to that. >> the senate stands adjourned until 10:00 a.m. this morning. democrats declared victory early this morning after speaking for more than 14 hours straight. >> is this slaughter not a wake-up call? is it not enough to get us to

act? where is our spine? >> weighing in on gun control including a few republicans. >> we don't want terrorists to walk into a gun store and buy a gun. we don't want an innocent law-abiding citizen to be denied his second amendment right because he is wrongly on the list with a bunch of terrorists. >> this filibuster led by senator chris murphy of connecticut where emotions are still raw after the sandy hook school shooting. >> ask yourself, what can you do to make sure that orlando or sandy hook never, ever happens again. >> the majority leader? >> republican leaders agreed to two votes. universal background check for gun shows and internet sales and banning suspected terrorists on the no-fly list from buying guns. >> the right thing is we don't sell to strangers, we don't sell to criminals or mentally unstable people. >> there is no word when those

votes will happen. >> we do know donald trump wants to sit down and talk about some of these issues with the nra. they said they are open to that. >> thank you very much. policy issues from orlando also spilling into social media. facebook is finding itself under increasing political pressure surrounding the orlando mass shooting investigation. senate committee asking the menlo park based company to produce information about the online activity of the gunman. in a letter directly to facebook, senate homeland security committee said the killer made a number of posts and searches before and during the attack. that letter says the shooter raged against the filthy ways of the west. the family of a southern california terror victim filed a lawsuit blaming social media for last november paris attacks. the father of amy gonzalez cites facebook and google to provide material to support extremists and said they knowingly permitted isis to use social

media platforms to recruit members, raise money and spread propaganda. his daughter a 23-year-old cal state long beach student was one of the 130 people killed in the paris attacks. so far none of the three companies issued a response. now to a story that scott mcgrew has been talking about. a trove of democratic national committee documents stolen by a hacker have been leaked. that includes a 200 page opposition research book, a play book on donald trump. >> that book is mostly filled with previously-reported information, but it provides insights into areas where democrats may view trump as most vulnerable, including rape allegations by his ex-wife. the dnc believes the russian government was behind the hack attack. federal investigators are not confirming it right now. professional security company is accusing the russians in that hack. >> scott mcgrew, you've been saying maybe not. >> we don't know if the hack

happened, the leaked documents are real, the person claiming responsibility is responsible. these are the actual documents they are talking about. a person posting these and other sensitive documents claims he or she was working alone, not with the russians. this dispute any connections the security company made to the russians. as we were discussing earlier, that is what a russian spy would say. fed chair janet yellen held a press conference wednesday after her federal open markets committee decided not to raise interest rates. indicated it would be less likely to raise rates in the future. the fed is in a pickle here. rates have been at historic lows for a historically long period of time. the fed wants to raise rates but can't find the data to justify it. every time they think the economy is strong enough, a wild number shows they are wrong. the worrisome thing for the fed, what if the economy gets worse? they haven't raised rates high

enough to lower them to help the economy. normally wall street loves when the fed says it's not raising rates. everybody is sitting around waiting for june 23rd, the brexit or not brexit question. >> mcdonald's may no longer include m&m's in its mcflurry shake. bloomberg quotes sources that the candy company will ask mcdonald's to stop including their m&m's because they add too much sugar to the shake. it wants people to think of their candy as a fun treat. the mcflurry has 86 grams of sugar. that's not a fun treat. that's way more than your daily intake. a candy company says the mcflurry has too much sugar in it. >> that's interesting. it should be up to people to decide whether they eat it or not. >> it should be up to

north. here is a view of mt. tam where you have mist and drizzle. temperatures in the mid 50s there 60 in the east bay, as we drop in on the north bay to get a closer look at some of the temperatures there. it feels milder, but we are going to have that chance of showers moving in. we are still watching it moving in on the radar near ukiah. as it moves in closer, we'll start to see that rain near santa rosa. futurecast shows the rain starting to stream in. until then, we will start to see the mostly cloudy skies working elsewhere. by 4:30 that rain is still coming down in a scattered nature for the north bay. the rest of the bay area will only have a slight chance of rain. san francisco also into the northern parts of the east bay.

as far as how much we could see, not a lot. santa rosa could measure up to 1/4 inch. that is quite a bit for the middle of june. after we have nice cool temperatures today with highs in the 60s all across the bay, we are looking at a warm-up for the weekend. not warm for the watch party this evening in oakland. we'll be at 63 out at oracle arena. get ready for those temperatures to jump into the 90s for inland valley by the end of the weekend. i'll keep you up-to-date on that. let's head over to mike. >> we are hoping for firework over oracle arena tonight. we are celebrating a pleasant drive in this portion of fremont. farther north from there, a crash just reported south 880 approaching your cut-off heading to the dunbarton bridge. these sensors changed from green to red over the last three minutes. big slowing reported there.

security guards paid to watch railroad tracks are frequently absent. >> vicky nguyen joining us with details. >> good morning. we first exposed problems with the track watch program in february. now we learned palo alto city leaders were warned missing guards would become an issue but they failed to act. our hidden cameras showed how some guards were sleeping and texting on the job while others left their post empty for hours, during critical times when trains were running in palo alto. the program was created to keep an eye on suicidal teens. many raised concerns after a series of reports exposed these problems. some of these issues could have been reported. cyber security predicted these issues and proposed solutions back in december. from a lack of bathrooms having guards to walk up to three miles, inadequate shelter, despite raising workers' pay it suffered turnover because of these job conditions. the current contract for this program ends june 30th. we asked the city for an
