temperatures are warming, close to 60 in the south bay. we're starting off nice and mild and bright. there you can see the sunshine across san francisco. no fog at the coastline right now. that's going to lead to a warm day. temperatures are close to 60 in some spots like oakland, san jose, even livermore close to that as well. cool at the coastline, half moon bay at 54 and santa rosa, 52. later it will warm nicely, 60s for the coastline and a few 80s. temperatures go up ten degrees tomorrow. we'll talk about a warmup slated to hit the bay area for a few days. >> rumor has it temperatures in the 90s? >> yeah, as soon as tomorrow. >> oh, boy. all right. stay tuned, anthony, thanks. first, another interim police chief from the oakland police department has stepped down. this as of yesterday afternoon. you may remember ben farrow

replaced sean wendt last thursday. a week later he was replaced by paul figueroa. now he is being replaced by the oakland city administrator. claims have been made that at many as 20 officers had sex with the same minor and racist texts sent to at least four other officers in the department. we have an exclusive look at the text messages. we're told they were sent in 2014. one shows a cereal box with a kkk picture on it. and another shows a kkk rally with an obscene caption. the mayor says it's important to note that the texts were sent by african-american officers. >> they are wholly inappropriate and not acceptable from anyone who wears the badge of the

oakland police department. >> the mayor described the culture of the opd as quote, toxic and macho. she said she was running a police department not a frat house. who is overseeing oakland pd? sabrina landress used to be city manager in emoryville. while they look for a permanent chief, command staff will report to her. >> i have seen overseeing the day-to-day of all our public safety departments. the police and fire chief on a day-to-day basis have been reporting to me. that structure does not change. >> and amidst all of this, oakland city officials have requested that the alameda county district attorney open an investigation into another opd officer over misconduct. the east bay express is reporting that sergeant james michael gant had an affair and allowed his mistress access to

sensitive opd files. that woman posted evidence to her social media. sources say he has been on leave for a year for an unrelated incident. in other news now, chilling details in the orlando shooting massacre. this morning investigators now have surveillance video in their possession from inside the club that they will be analyzing to determine how the attack unfolded. and we're learning more about the actions of the gunman during the attack. he killed 49 people and injured more than 50 others when he opened fire inside the gay nightclub early last sunday morning. nbc news has learned he used his cell phone during the attack to check social media to see the reaction to his actions. he also texted his wife, records show the couple had transferred the deed to their home just two months before the shooting. aerial footage over a disney resort in orlando shows crews putting a fence around a lagoon

where a young boy was killed by an alligator. the two-year-old was in ankle deep water when an alligator attacked him and dragged him underwater. his father tried to save him. disney is under fire with the incident with many people saying the no swimming signs were not enough of a safety measure. disney says in addition to adding the fence they're adding alligator and snake warning signs and employees will be trained to look out for the dangerous reptiles. back here in the bay area, after four years and many delays, the man accused of killing sierra lamar learned he has a trial date. he was arrested in 2012, two months after lamar disappeared on her way to school in morgan hills. yesterday, a judge announced the murder trial will begin august first. lamar's body never was found. investigators say dna in garcia's car does link him to the crime. devoted volunteers have spent their weekend searching for the

missing 15-year-old girl and say they're relieved to have news of the trial. >> it's about time they're going to do something. we've been waiting for four years and three months. >> the volunteers often wear tennis shoes in red, sierra's favorite color, to show their solidat solidat solidat solidari solidarity. prosecutors say the utility company, pg&e ignored safety regulations to cut costs and that pg&e tried to cover everything up by lying to investigators. pg&e's attorney responded by saying the company did what it could in the face of ambiguous regulations which utility workers struggled to understand. the 2010 explosion and fire killed eight people and destroyed 38 homes. the first family is in california at yosemite national park. the obamas arrived in yosemite early yesterday evening for father's day get away.

a south bay man is being called a hero for his quick thinking actions to save a driver from a burning car. the dramatic scene was caught on cell phone video. the man said he was having lunch in cupertino last saturday when he saw the parked car start to spew smoke. he could barely see the driver inside slumped near the steering wheel as the car filled with smoke. he said his instincted kicked in. >> i was out of breath. i pulled him six feet maybe the first time. i was like, breathing very heavily. you know, i don't know. there is heat, also that comes from the car i could feel it on my face. >> once on the curb, he said the driver was okay and that driver was later arrested for dui and arson. a massive wildfire continues to rage in santa barbara county. the fire has scorched nearly 7,000 acres, it's 24% contained as of this morning.

more than 1,200 firefighters are battling the blaze as portions of highway 101 remain closed. the cause of the fire is under investigation. multiple fires down south have cal fire crews in the bay area on high alert. we are in santa clara county. >> the significance of that fire is that there were structures burned. >> reporter: cal fire division chief jim crawford said this could be the beginning of a bsyz fire station. this fire scorched 10 acres. >> we're going to start to balance out with potentially what we saw last year, which was a historic fire season for us. >> reporter: crawford says right now at least five fires are burning in the region, including fires in monterey county. cal fire has already deployed at least five engines and a helicopter to assist. and there's fear the scorching temperatures settling in on the southwest could strain resources.

>> we really start to see an increase in calls for people that are ill from heat illness. that takes our resources that are the same fire fighting resources and puts them in a role of being a life protection instead of fire protection. >> reporter: add that to a drought stricken landscape, firefighters warn the potential for catastrophe is real. >> make sure people are fire wise when they're working to prevent a start from happening. we are just at the beginning of fire season and meteorologist anthony slaughter has a forecast that seems to just be getting warmer. >> yeah. unfortunately. it's going to get hot, and we're talking 90s even triple digits for places down south near santa barbara and la and palm springs. they're no stranger to that kind of heat. it's not a good thing when you have long stretches of temperatures like that. start off with a shot from

emeryvil emeryville. it's going to be a hot "today in the bay" area. i want to start you off with the map we were talking about the fires that were burning, still actively burning across the state. this shows those fires. you can see about five of them still. i put on the drought monitor, which actually shows where our current drought status stands. and it's still an extreme and exceptional drought for places south of the bay area. you can see where we didn't see the rain, we are definitely paying for it right now. we saw some rain overnight in parts of northern california, north bay, mount tam got .25 of rainfall and more than that up to a couple of inches across parts of northern california. great news. all in all we're still seeing rain here in june. believe it or not. as we go through the next couple of days, we'll go in the opposite direction. temperatures will start to climb. today, still going to be comfortable for most of the bay area. we're talking mostly 70's from

san francisco at 71 to the north bay at 79. even the inner bay, east bay and the peninsula will be looking at temperatures very comfortable, room temperature, mid to upper 70s. so the maps show 70s for most of the inner bay and see a few 80s for our inland locations today. tomorrow, the 80s take over most of the bay area, we'll see even a few 90s for the tri valley and the south bay for tomorrow. the coastline does stay cool. not overly cool. we'll rise into the 70s for tomorrow. and things stay put over the next couple of days once we hit sunday, monday tuesday and wednesday. 80s for most of the bay. 70s for the coast line and we'll see a few 90s for the south bay and tri valley. as we put the winds into motion, this is key because this is where our weather really shifts when we start talking winds. over the next couple days you'll notice a southerly flow. that's what brings the heat out of the desert southwest. tomorrow we are going to start off with a mild temperature, probably close to 70 in some spots. that's going to push us close to

90 in some of the inland valleys. tomorrow night, those winds start to shift a little bit on shore. and that means we'll see some cooling at the coastline on monday. and maybe even some more fog to start off the work week. so high pressure, that's coming in from the desert southwest. for us here in the bay area, we're going to get taste of summer heat. across the desert southwest, look at these numbers, phoenix, 107 footomorrow, palm springs, are -- 117. peninsula you'll be closer to 80. san francisco in the 70s. not everybody's going to see the 90s. definitely going to stay cool at the coast line. nice warm up coming for the north bay. up to 90 by tomorrow, same deal for the tri valley. that will be one of our warmest. we're talking low 90s as soon as tomorrow. all the way through tuesday and then after tuesday, temperatures

"today in the bay's" garvin thomas has this morning's bay area proud. tina bowles was a san jose police officer for more than 20 years. she said it taught her a lot

about dealing with people and getting them to understand the right thing to do. they're skills she uses all the time but in a different venue. making sure her daughter has a future in her favorite sport. if you head into the back yard of the bowles' family home in saratoga be prepared to meet daughter raquel's feet before you see her face. that sort of thing happens around synchronized swimmers. a sport raquel has been doing for six years. though mom tina, says she's been in the water much, much longer. since she was four months old. therapy for her erb's palsy. a condition that limited her mobility as a child. >> couldn't raise both arms, she'd fall over or couldn't walk straight or she would act like she was limping. >> a major surgery at age six

helped raquel gain some range of motion. taking up synchronized swimming has helped that. >> she won gold and silver medals. she was the only girl with the disability on the team. >> as good and passionate as she is. her disability means high level competition like the olympics is out of reach. it was a bitter pill for her and her mom to swallow. >> that's the hardest thing as a parent you'll ever be able to witness is when your child regardless of who they are, they put their heart and soul into something, they excel. but because they don't meet a criteria, they're told they can't do it. >> but if that sport wasn't the right fit, tina decided time to start their own. a few years ago, tina retired as a san jose police officer and now dedicates all her time and

down a traffic pole and barrelled through an iron fence before crashing into the home. this is at lafayette and lewis streets in santa clara. the traffic pole landed feet away prom the father and his 5-year-old son who were up late watching tv. that father tells us the driver was drunk. >> uber and lyft, there is no reason for it, if you're going to be a drinking age adult you should be responsible. >> officers arrested a 21-year-old francisco cortez cruz a few blocks away. he faces charges of dui and hit and run. the home will need tens thouc z thousands of dollars in repairs. as the golden state warriors fight for a championship, their new arena is fighting for survival. a lawsuit aiming to prevent the project was put on a fast track. a group called the mission bay alliance is suing both the team and the city of san francisco to

halt the construction of the new are arena. opponents say it could create a traffic nightmare that could prevent access to emergency medical care at ucfs. they accuse the warriors of rushing the process. violating environment and zoning rules. well san francisco city attorney says it's done everything by the book and worked to lessen any impacts to the medical facility. >> i think the city has had unprecedented level of meetings with stakeholders and the warriors, giants, and other stakeholders to make sure that everything is balanced and we have a project that works for the entirety of san francisco. >> back in december, the board of supervisors unanimously approved the $1 billion project after three years of campaigning wi by the warriors, the judge could make his decision likely by july. steph curry's wife finds

welcome back here on this saturday, 7:44. we had some showers fall overnight across parts of northern california. you can see noted by the green there north of san francisco. in fact, mount tam got a little over .25 of rainfall and parts of northern california saw over one to two inches of rain. great news as we're still seeing showers here in june. you've probably heard, temperatures are going to warm up. it will be a comfortable day today. not overly hot today. we're talking mostly 70s for most of the bay area. 71 for san francisco. 75 for the east bay and 75 for the peninsula. the hot spots will be the tri valley and south bay. get close to 80 in some spots. the tri valley will see a few low 80s. tomorrow, those 90s start to

push back into the bay area. we'll see 90s for the tri valley and the south bay together. 70s tomorrow at the coast line. today, not going to be overly hot. then as we start off tomorrow, and really through the next couple of days, we're going to stay put. 70s at the coastline and that will continue through tuesday and wednesday. monday we'll see 80s for most of the inner bay. that continues for tuesday and wednesday as well. eventually we'll see temperatures cool off as we head towards thursday. the winds have shifted. they're going to continue to move out of the south and that's going to push in that very warm desert southwest air. so it's going to move over the bay area over the next couple of days. we're not going to see overly gusty winds. it's about the direction of where our winds are coming from. tomorrow morning, notice out of the southwest so we'll start the day tomorrow in the 60s close to 70 in some locations. that will easily get us close to 90 for our inland locations for tomorrow. look at this, tomorrow evening, look at the clouds off the

coastline. that means for some cooler air at the coast by monday and the return of some fog. you'll notice that's noted by some of the contouring there. some of the white denotes the fog we'll see as soon as monday morning. those winds will shift as well on monday and that's going to mean for cooler weather at least at the coast line. it will stay hot inland over the next couple of days, high pressure dominates the west. that's going to pull in a lot of hot air. we'll get a taste of this, los angeles tomorrow up to 92. they've got heat advisories posted there. palm springs, 115 for tomorrow and phoenix pushing 117 for tomorrow. that's going to mean for this stretch of hot weather over the next couple of days, south bay close to 90 all the way to tuesday. peninsula, you'll be closer to 80 and in san francisco closer to 70. tomorrow you'll be close to 80. there's the cooling i talked about for monday and tuesday at the coastline. inland valleys stay warm all the way through wednesday. and then you'll notice the cooling in that seven-day forecast, again, koowe're in th

fireworks... going inside a pho. both police and firefighters fireworks going off inside a phoenix walmart. both police and firefighters showed up for the impromptu unwanted show on wednesday. firefighters put out the fire before it spread to nearby charcoal lighter displays. they are trying to figure out who was responsible. they say this surveillance video has given them good leads. after six months in space, the crew of expedition 47 landed safely in kazakhstan today. it carried british astronaut tim peake and two others. they reported they felt fine as they headed down to earth. it appears russia's track and field team will not be able to compete in the upcoming

olympics. the russian sports ministry says it was told yesterday the ban was upheld by track and field's world governing body. the initial suspension was handed down last november after the world doping agency accused the team of state sponsored cheating, corruption and coverups. the organization says russia has not done enough to earn reinstatement. our next story will last about two and a half minutes. in that same time, nathan adrian could win a gold medal three times. he's the reigning olympic champion in swimming's premier event. even that doesn't guarantee him a trip to the rio games. >> 49 days to go to the start of the olympics where it will be a new world, that's the official slogan of the 2016 games. gearing from the games is cal swimmer nathan adrian, the reigning olympic champion in the 100 meter freestyle. his winning time, 47 seconds. al before he can book his flight to rio, he's got to go to omaha first.

four years of waiting, hundreds of miles in the pool. all for the chance not to make the u.s. olympic swim team. the u.s. swim trials start next week in nebraska. nathan adrian will be there. he's a three time olympic champion, his spot on the team is not guaranteed. >> i mean, it's a blessing and a curse of being part of team usa. we have way too many fast people that would make that qualifying a standard, so we have to really compete for our spots. >> reporter: adrian, now 27 started swimming when he was two. >> my first memory of swimming is my mom would go and do lap swim and swim with me on her back. i was like a turtle and i hang on to her back. >> reporter: the youngest of three siblings, the 6'6" swimmer came to cal in 2006. he followed in the rather large footsteps of another swimming

giant. he became the first american to win gold. >> that was an incredible feeling to be able to look up and see a one next to my name and definitely surreal. i knew it was a close race. and then, you know, you kind of let your emotions take over. >> reporter: this would be adrian's third trip to the olympic games. he knows the sacrifices he's making today will pay off in august. >> i want to go back and i want to represent team usa. i want that american flag cap and just look up in the stands and have people going crazy wearing american flag shorts and you know, holding the flag up. and just because i'm representing my country, they're going to cheer for me. you know, that is just an incredible, incredible experience. >> reporter: adrian is known for his performance in the pool and for his appearance out of it. look for him to be the big rio heart throb. he told us he has a simple
