with kari hall. >> we've had a couple of days of high heat and no change into this afternoon. a live look at all of our microclimates right now. 55 in the north bay, 56 in san francisco and the east bay. highs again today in the 80s and 90s for the inland areas. san francisco still warm with a high of 76 degrees. we'll see the heat continuing for the next several days. and we'll talk about what to expect this weekend, coming up. let's head over to mike now. it looks like an easy drive at the bay bridge. it is, kari. it doesn't look like we have all the lanes open but that's not unusual for this time of morning. no slowing, that's also not unusual. we'll take you to the south bay. about 9:45 out of los gatos, there will be a procession on winchester boulevard heading north, parallel to highway 17,

to san jose, going east, san carlos, to s.a.p. center, a massive procession. for more on the touching reason for the memorial, over to you guys. that's right, mike, san jose police will honor one of their own killed in the line of duty. hundreds of fellow officers are expected to attend the memorial honoring motorcycle officer michael katherman, killed in a crash last week. >> bob redell is live with more. we've seen a lot of emotion and gravity for today's ceremony. good morning. >> reporter: good morning, sam and laura. members of law enforcement, bait ar the bay area and throughout the state, are expected here to join their brothers and sisters with the san jose police department

to honor michael katherman, a veteran of the force. he was killed while trying to speed over a speeding car. at a memorial outside police headquarters, his grandparents told us off camera last night that he was, quote, the perfect grandson who loved god, his country, and his family, that includes his wife and two young children. here is the mayor. >> our officers on the front lines are taking extraordinary risks for us every day to keep our community safe and to serve us. we need to honor them when they spend their final moments in that service. >> reporter: this is video of the san jose air support unit. it will fly over today. the sheriff's offices and other surrounding offices will help staff the police department so the officers can attend the

service, which is open to the public. the doors open at the s.a.p. center at 9:30 this morning. the motorcade procession will depart the funeral home at 9:45 this morning, expected to arrive here at the s.a.p. center at 10:30. memorial service starts at 11:00. 1:30 is when the motorcade procession will leave and is expected to arrive at the cemetery for private burial at quarter to 3:00. live here in san jose, bob redell, "today in the bay." >> no doubt it will be very moving as well. thank you very much, bob. officer katherman's memorial service, as bob mentioned, starts at 11:00 this morning. we of course will bring you live coverage during our midday newscast this morning. now to a developing story, laura. police are trying to sort out a car crash where one driver was apparently stabbed and left a trail of blood, fleeing the scene, before officers caught up

with him. >> it started at taylor boulevard and pleasant hill road. officers later found the man until the backyard of a nearby home. authorities say the driver struck two cars with his cadillac, then smashed into a light pole, splitting the car in two. witnesses say he then took off running and eventually ended up in a nearby yard when a homeowner spotted him. >> i turned around, there's this guy with no shirt on in the back corner of my house. it looked like he was maybe trying to jump the fence or something like that, covered in blood. >> he says police arrived before he had the chance to call 911. he says officers briefly questioned him before emergency crews took him to the hospital where last night he underwent surgery. officers have not said whether he will be charged. for the second time in a week an investigator with the alameda county da has been placed on leave. according to a source in the department, the issue centers around racist text messages.

insiders tell us the suspended investigator is accused not of sending the texts but of receiving them and not reporting them. david downing is now the leader of the oakland police department. the city has run through three chiefs over the past two weeks. >> we've been working hard to rebuild the bond between the community and the police. seeing this level of dysfunction undermines that. >> another da's office investigator was placed on leave last week in connection with the oakland sex scandal case going on at the same time. about a dozen oakland police officers are now linked to the teenaged prostitute at the center of that case. a new way to put pressure on a controversial judge. starting today, bay area drivers will see a very visible reminder of the efforts to recall judge aaron persky. he is the judge who presided over the sexual assault case of the former stanford swimmer.

a digital billboard is going up on highway 92. the billboard is said to reflect the community's outrage. >> we don't believe in special sentences for privileged stanford athletes. we think that whoever you are, whether you're at stanford or an elite athlete, you should be subject to the same laws as everyone else. >> ultraviolet is the advocacy group paying for the sign. legal experts stress that the judge's sentence was well within legal guidelines. the outrage following brock turner's controversial sentencing is not going away anytime soon. now more backlash after someone created a brock turner family support facebook page. it has more than 6,000 likes. the page's administrators claim to be turner's parents, saying their son is the real victim. turner's attorney tell us the family is not involved in any

gutters on your homes. firefighters in antioch say a reminder to clean the rain gutters in your home. this picture is enough to make you do it. firefighters in antioch say fallen pine needles helped a fire spread from one home to another in antioch yesterday.

one home badly damaged. flames also causing damage to an auto body shop. the fire forced nine people from their homes. the cause is still under investigation. two fires burning out of control now threatening homes in the san gabriel mountains 20 miles east of los angeles. >> you mentioned two fires. the main concern here is that those fires will merge with the extreme heat only making matters worse. the first fire, called the reservoir fire, started yesterday after a deadly car crash in an asouza. an hour later, two miles away, the fish fire ignited in duarte. hundreds were forced from their homes. >> this is our disaster. we don't have hurricanes or tornadoes or earthquakes. we have excessive heat. >> temperatures are expected to hit the high 90s again in southern california. not good news for firefighters. places like palm springs are reporting 120 plus degree

it doesn't matter what day it is. there won't be many changes in the forecast, unfortunately. so we're stuck with this heat. we start out at least with some nice, cool mornings, and mostly clear skies, as we get a live look at the bay bridge. no issues as you head out for the roadways. we can at least start out with the air conditioner off this morning. we'll be cranking it right back up again this afternoon. temperatures start out in the mid-50s. as we drop into the north bay, novembato is 54, same in sandra fell. napa starts out the morning at 57. hour by hour, in livermore, our temperatures are in the upper 50s and quickly rising with all of that sunshine throughout the morning. even at 9:00, we're at 70 degrees. at 10:00, we continue to see temperatures soaring into the 80s and then the 90s by early afternoon. at 2:00 we'll be at 91 degrees in livermore. and a look at all of the

microclimates today. some upper 80s and low 90s in the south bay. the peninsula will be at 68 degrees at half moon bay. that's where you go to cool off. in palo alto on the other side of the hills, it's 90 degrees. san francisco will be in the mid-70s. mid-90s for fairfield as well as antioch and the tri valley. we have this strong area of high pressure that is dominating the headlines and creating some high heat all across the southwest. but we are seeing the heat less intense but still very dangerous. palm springs and las vegas today, 111 degrees, coming down from 120, so i guess that's a little bit of a break. as we take a look at the five-day temperature trend, in dublin temperatures stay well above average, soaring into the mid-90s this weekend. i'll have another look at the forecast coming up. let's head over to mike, watching a crew on the san mateo

bridge. thank goodness for them, it's a little cooler overnight. this is westbound with the headlights coming off the hayward side and the peninsula. we talked about the flashing lights. you can see the cones reflecting, they're blocking off the far right lane, still there with that crew. but the map shows no real problems and the traffic still light heading towards the east bay, not slowing at all. we have another crew eastbound at the lower deck of the bay bridge. a smooth flow of traffic around the area. we did talk about the memorial for officer katherman, that will be leaving 1:30, down into gilroy on the 101, you'll see lots of folks saluting on the freeway. back to you. >> always a nice tribute when they do that. thank you very much, mike. a cuban delicacy returning to the u.s. >> is it a cubano?

we turn now to landon live at cnbc world headquarters. >> good morning to you both. futures are higher. stocks rose assist investors react to polls that show the "stay" camp is gaining momentum in the uk. a "leave" vote could start a global selloff on uncertainty over the economic impact. if he had chair janet yellen is on capitol hill to testify about the economy today. dow rose 129 points. cuban coffee is returning to the u.s. for the first time in more than 50 years. this fall, nestle's brand will start selling an espresso roast for its home brewing machines. in april the state department added coffee and other products to its list of eligible imports produced by cuban businesses. cuba exports coffee each year.

there are reports trump's children wanted lewandowski replaced. hillary clinton will make the case today that donald trump is unfit to manage the u.s. economy. she will give a speech in the battleground state of ohio. aides tell nbc news clinton will detail why she believes trump's economic policies will, quote, drive america off a cliff. clinton is expected to go after trump on his private record. a new monmouth poll puts clinton 7 points ahead of trump. investigators right now are looking into how the gunman in the orlando rampage passed his psychological exam to become a security guard. the psychologist says she never actually examined him. the security firm that the killer worked for blames a

clerical error. the company says the evaluation was conducted by another doctor who bought the listed doctor's practice. u.s. attorney general loretta lynch will be in orlando in the wake of the deadly shooting at the pulse nightclub, her first visit since the june 12th tragedy. she's expected to meet with orlando police and visit the site of the massacre. security will be tight at this weekend's pride festival in san francisco, one of the largest pride events until the world. >> more than a million people are expected in san francisco during the pride parade festival, including increased police presence at every pride event and gay club. no large bags or purses will be allowed in, which is new this year. everyone will have to walk through a metal detecter to even enter the festival. officials say despite rattled nerves, the show will go on. >> you can attack us, bully us, kill us. we'll keep coming back and be stronger than before.
