thank you so much for joining us. i'm laura garcia-cannon. >> i'm sam brock t. temperatures feel like they could be the dog days. >> absolutely. we're stuck in this pat empblt it looks like at least the next several days, there will not be much relief unless you live along the immediate coastline. now we start off in the north bay, a few more clouds in spots. it's 49 degrees there, 56 degrees in the east bay as we get a little light in the sky. can you tell, it will be a hot one with a high of 92 and 73 degrees in san francisco. so we'll talk about what else to expect as we head into the rest of the weekend coming up mike's talking about opening up the rest of the cash lanes. >> it looks like they have a little wait on either side of the fast track lane. this should change over. i will track them. let you know if it's a problem. not a problem for your speed

sensors around the bay t. city to the south bay. over here on the east bay and the altamonte pass. southbound 101 moves very well. to the golden gate bridge, a smooth flow of traffic for the north bay. we will leave it for our first story as well, guys, back to you. >> there was a bus loaded with col, drugs and dozens of teens. well, this morning the driver of that bus under arrest. questions are swirling about how the underaged teenagers were able to rent out the bus in the first place. >> "today in the bay" steffi chung, the investigation is now under way. you can only imagine the reaction from parents, kids were doing what? >> reporter: that's right, sam, laura. from what i understand, police are saying some people have no idea what their kids were up to. this bus was apparently leaving this bus at the terminal within it got caught, ready to drive around pa rin for six hours, instead ending, parents having

to come here to pick tear kids up. the central pa rin police authority giving this picture to show the so-called party bus, reported by an anonymous caller monday, early evening. police talked to the driver and he told officers he was taking the kids to their parents. police say what they found were 33 teenagers with 30 bottles of hard liquor. one case of spike lemonade, a variation of prescription drugs, adding they found green with drug paraphernalia on him, as well as maybe meth, alcohol and a switchplayed. >> he was arrested for a felony child endangerment, due to the age of the children on the bus. >> reporter: police say a 16-year-old girl had personal prescription drugs. shelves cited for possession and having fake i.d.s. a 16-year-old male rented this bus online from galactic

charters.com t. 16-year-old did not have to produce i.d. and had $900 in cash for the payment t. public utility commissions oversees these kind of buses have been notified and green is supposed to be in court for his first appearance 10:00 this morning. stephanie chung, "today in the bay". the search is on for two people that stabbed two people. coincidentally, contra kosta authorities were just around the corner getting ready to serve a search warrant at that home. when they rushed over, they saw one person shot, one person stabbed. no sign of the attacker. both victims are in the hospitl. the man accused of hiding a teen murder suspect in nevada was in court for a bail hearing.

they say he harbored a 17-year-old. the teen along with a 16-year-old have been arrested for stabbing and shooting two nevada high school students last month. one of the victims died. police are still looking for a third suspect. enriquez is also suspected of rapeing a nevada high school student a week before the deadly attack. following the sentencing of former stanford swimmer brock turner backlash has now may have beened the way for change and prompted officials to create new laws. later today, santa clara district attorney says he is announcing legislation inspired by turner's sexual assault victims. there is also a bill moving forward in the assembly right now, that would eliminate the current statute of limitations on rape cases. chris sanchez will bring us a live report. speaking of this situation, meantime, bay area lawyers are defending the judge, aaron persky who sentenced brock

turner. >> an online petition saying his decision following the sentencing guidelines of the probation dependent. santa clara public attorneys gathered more than 200 signatures supporting him, opposing recall efforts that have spread across the nation. a recall effort ago ens the judge just got larger. this is that new digital billboard calling for his removal. it went up along highway 82 in hayward. the billboard directs people to a recall petition that has more than 1 million signatures. three men are in jail accused of going on a robbery spree in san francisco, armed with handguns. four robberies happened in the early morning hours of last week. all in a two-hour span t. neighborhoods that were struck include the pan hand him, inner sunset and persid why heights. witnesses described the get away car, which led police right to them. a brazen crime involving a

smash n grab at the bloomingdales last year. you see the car blouing into a door there. three men drove a stolen suv through the front doors and took off with a large amount of jewelry. now investigators are iding those three suspects. two of them are behind bars. they're still looking for the third person, joseph sandeval the one right there. detectives also believe fourth suspect, a woman, also played a role in this heist. they're still working to identify her. . some pretty intense video coming out of sonoma county as a helicopter rescues two teens stuck on a cliff. it happened after four kid hiked down the trail to the beach. they became stranded within the tide came in. the teens decided to climb the cliff to the top of the blue. only one made it all the way to the top. luckily, he called 911 for help. firefighters rushed out and rescued one team using a rope. but a helicopter had to swoop in

and rescue the remaining two because of dangerous conditions will. in california, two massive fires have officially merged into one in l.a. county. 5,000 acres are scorched. hundreds of residents are forced to flee. fortunately, no buildings are damaged just yet. firefighters have the fire about 10% contained. take a look at this. the view from space t. image shows the tall smoke plume northeast of los angeles. >> that is fascinating. one weren't of el nino storms is not going to era is the damage done by years of drought. it will take california another four years to recover. those predictions coming courtesy of ucla researchers. they find four straight dry years is the borest drought the states endured in the last 1,200 years. the current drought is still ongoing, now entering its fifth

another bay area connection has been revealed. just today before the attack the gunman bought plan tickets for his family to travel to san francisco next month. sources tell nbc news, the gunman purchased three tickets for himself and his wife and their son. salman's mother lives in rodeo and is rofing from surgery. we are told the family was planning on spending a period of time with her here in the bay area. attorney general loretta lynch visited pulse nightclub yesterday, during her trip, she visited a mem mofl, following up on the investigation into the shooter. she announced $1 million will be made available to cover investigative costs to the florida law department. catch wall street entirely off guard. an announcement tesla is looking to buy solar city left investors speechless. >> elon musk has been on the phone with reporters and analysts all morning, trying to explain it. >> good morning, musk says he sees the two companies as

related, lawyer remarks because they're both green companies, solar supplies, electricity for tesla, tesla builds batteries for solar city. he says it's natural. they're more related than that as companies. during a conference call this morning, muck did not sound terribly convincing, despite he calls it a pretty obvious thing to do. wall street thinks he has enough to build that model 3. the car could make or break tesla. tesla wants to buy solar city in an all stock deal for $5.7 billion. i'll be honest with you, on the phone call with reporters this morning, which is still going on, muck sounds unconvinced himself, like he was working without notes and he wasn't quite sure what he wants to say. this is very different than the way he usually conducts himself. let's talk about how these companies are related. muck is solar city's biggest investor and chairman of the board there. his stock if solar city skyrocketed when he announced

ground sites. 66 degrees in dublin him walnut creek 56 degrees. nice and cool air conditioner, all for a little while. we have been talking about the exa excessive heat, not only here, but we will have warm transportation and across socal into arizona and parts of nevada. we will have more that continues into the next couple of days. as we go into tomorrow, we'll have those temperatures there up to 111 degrees, while here, we have some mid-80s, so, yes, we are a little bit spoiled. it doesn't look as intense here, but this heat continues to move in and gets more intense as we go into the weekend and early next week. so that's something we need to be prepared for. headed into the weekend, looking at highs into the '80s and 90s, widespread across the bay. let's head over to mike now to see what's happening. still looks like an easy drive? >> yes, kari, it is, this is nicely flowing in lights,

inland areas. also for the south bay. it will be well above that. we are looking at high heat for the next self days as we get ready for the weekend. take it in this morning as we are starting out with clouds and cooler temperatures. it's 49 degrees in the north bay, 58 degrees in the south bay and another sizzleer for the valleys, while the peninsula and the coastal areas in san francisco are feeling some warm temperatures, not that bad. we'll talk about what to expect headed into the weekend coming up in a few minutes. mike is tracking the san jose traffic. >> i am. we have that first verse we almost always see at 5:30 and 101 and k3wr6789 it should clear up over the next five, possibly ten minutes. we willing that that for anything unusual. we have this incident around the mission grade truck scale.

comments about that legislation inspired by the case t.da and jeff rossen and the deputy da that prosecuted brock turner will speak today about that legislation born of this case. after that sentencing, she said that quote the fallout has been a greater awareness of the issues involved. for one of the co-sponsors of assembly bill 1813 is a change for the kooul culture. it seems to eliminate the current ten year statute of limitation. it would allow the indeaf night prosecution of rape. rights advocates applaud that case. most of the uproar in the brock turner case was over sentencing. it spurred other action, paying for a billboard, pushing a petition to ask a state judicial

commission to take action and also attorneys on the other side, lawyers who go before the judge are saying that they in support of him and using his judicial discretion in sentencing brock turner to six months in jail rather than the six years in prison that the da's office recommend. da rosen will make his remarks at 10:00. brock turner has served 20 days of his six month sentence t. judge is just returning from vacation in the coming days. in palo alto, chris sanchez, "today in the bay." >> thank you very much. a san francisco bus driver expected to be arraigned on charges of allowing 33 teenagers to use his bus to period of time. police arrested the ske-year-old yesterday. someone told him there will be passengers on the bus 15 to 17-years-old. they say the bus was loaded down with 30 bottles of hard liquor,
