of control in kern county. it's happening near lake isabella where hundreds of homes are gone. crews are wrapping up a news conference moments ago. kris sanchez is monitoring us and will have details in moments. global shock waves as the world reacts to this, a historic decision just hours ago. great britain will leave the eu. prime minister david cameron is stepping down. the impact across the globe. today in the bay continues right now. a very good friday morning to you. thanks for joining us. i'm laura garcia-cannon. >> we are going to go across the globe for our news but keep it here in the bay area for our forecast. how does it look? >> looking good to start out with clouds near the coast then sunshine starting out in the south bay. as we get a look at our microclimate cameras, 50 in the north bay, 57 in the east bay and south bay, and a look at the

highs today making it up to 90 in the north bay as well as tri-valley. 80 in the peninsula and san francisco. 72 into the weekend. we will see temperatures rising, especially in the valleys. mike is watching the tri-valley after a couple of crashes there. >> overall give folks a look at the bay. we did have a couple of trouble spots earlier. southbound 680 slow out of pleasanton in toward sunol. the first one was a shared and second one. the tri-valley and bay looking good. easier flow of traffic. after an earlier crash at the maze, there was a burst of traffic, folks coming through the area that had all lanes backed up 15, 20 minutes. now just the fastrack lane showing that backup.

we'll track that. negotiation with the european union will need to begin under a new prime minister. >> an international shake-up hours ago as british prime minister david cameron says he will resign. this comes as the people of great britain voted to change their future and leave the european union. for more information, scott mcgrew joining us. he's got the markets open 30 minutes. right now dow futures are down 500 points. that might be the tip of the iceberg. >> that's right off the top. you were asking about circuit breakers earlier. they slow the trading on the american market. our predictions put the s&p s&p losing about 3.5% off the top. we'll be halfway there by 6:30. we never dealt with a major world economy leaving the eu so we don't know what to expect. that uncertainty is what world market hates. britain voting 52% to leave.

48% voted to stay. various world leaders voicing their shock this morning. it puts enormous pressure on germany and france to keep the rest of europe together. this exit will not happen quickly. it's a two-year process, but it will have to get somewhat ugly as britain negotiates to leave, the eu will have to be a tough negotiator so that other countries aren't tempted to leave. people ask what does this mean for me? in the bay area beyond my retirement account taking a huge hit, i'm going to put together a laundry list of things that are going to happen in your life. i'll have it in a couple of minutes. >> maybe don't check that 401(k) today. >> let it ride. 6:03. we are waiting to see if president obama will address the nation following this historic vote. this is a live look at stanford university. the president is set to arrive

there in just about two hours. he is in the bay area to talk innovation. the president is heading to the stanford campus to speak at the seventh annual global entrepreneurship summit. every year entrepreneurs, investors and ecosystem supporters connect at the event created by president obama. the summit is focusing on involving women, minorities and youth. today in the bay is live in stanford and will join us live in 20 minutes. more breaking news from kern county where a wildfire there is raging out of control. it's already destroyed almost 100 homes. >> this is happening near lake isabella. it's about 45 miles northeast of bakersfield. so far 8,000 acres have burned. kris sanchez checking the latest. i understand you got an update from the fire department. >> just got off the phone with the incident commander. with the weekend coming up and considering there are campgrounds there, should folks consider bagging their camping

plans. he can't say that, but it would be prudent. there is a hospital in that fire zone that is sheltering in place and in the last 15 minutes we learned that the fire exploded in size overnight. it's now 8,000 acres. that's an area bigger than daly city. it is still out of control. heat and wind will not help today. this is one of the more than 100 homes destroyed in that fire. burned down to the foundation. 1,500 other homes are still in the line of the fire. emergency crews had to evacuate 40 seniors. they are using that center as an evacuation area. hospital patients are sheltering in place. phones, cell phone towers and power towers down around lake isabella. some folks told to get out had no time to take anything. >> soon as i got to my house there was a sheriff sitting there said, get out. >> i've nothing.

we are losing everything. plus our cat's going to be dead. >> here is a video of what firefighters saw. kern county fire department captured a neighborhood where 50 homes burned all at once. at one point, the hospital was ordered to evacuate, but again there just wasn't time. they are still there in place. the flames were just right outside the hospital doors. crews deploy from all over the place. bay area crews are in southern california at a different fire. we are trying to figure out if we have strike teams headed out to the erskine fire. it exploded in size overnight. would you believe, it only started at 4:00 yesterday afternoon. >> no doubt they are anticipating a hot weekend there as well. stagnant air in the central valley. we'll track this breaking news throughout the morning on air and across all our digital

platforms. pride weekend is about to kick off. it starts today. thousands are going to hit the streets of san francisco for the first event, the trans march. you'll notice added security. san francisco police tells us there are no known threats this weekend. but given the back drop of the massacre at a night club in orlando, law enforcement is taking extra precautions. civic center plaza, security will carry wands and using metal detectors at all the entrances. the city is restricting the size of bags allowed at the venue. to honor the 49 people who lost their lives in orlando, volunteers will hold 49 boards with the victims apartments faces and names. >> we can't stop celebrating because we are still being killed. that's the reason we are celebrating. we refuse to let you make us sad. >> the police department will deploy 25% more officers this

year to help keep the streets safe. we talk about what's going on in san francisco, let's take a live look from our camera at at&t park. low cloud cover there. giants are back home taking on the phillies tonight. it's lgbt night at the ballpark. a moment of silence will honor the victims in orlando. fans will be able to donate to the pulse victims' fund. police are searching for a man who attacked an employee after he was caught shoplifting. they released this picture in hopes of capturing the suspect. he lunged at a store employee. the employee reported seeing the man stealing item and confronted him. this wasn't the first time the man has stolen from the store. each time he's gotten away. 6:08. a former oakland police officer now an investigator for the alameda county d.a.'s office has been cleared after a misconduct

investigation. sergeant mike gants was accused of having his girlfriend transcribe audio recordings of major cases while on the force. no crime was committed. they say he did not compromise any of the prosecutions. gant is one of a long list of people linked to opd accused of misconduct. >> a new and prominent çvoice. professor barbara babcock was the first member to join stanford's law school. she opposes recalling the judge who sentenced student brock turner to six months in jail for sexual assault. in an open letter released, she wrote, judges should not be responsive to public opinion. that is the essence of unbiased judging at the very heart of the american justice system. she adds, the recall movement is not a sitting strategy. we are heading into the weekend this morning and it is

high pressure. >> not only for the region, but a big chunk of the country dealing with well above average temperatures. we are not going to see anything different. as we get a live look out there, we see that high pressure pumping in the heat and temperatures today will rise quickly for the inland valleys. while we will catch relief along the coast, temperatures in the 60s in half moon bay and san francisco will make it into the low 70s. low 90s for the tri-valley as well as the delta. we'll talk about what else to expect as we go into the weekend as this heat continues to go up. let's head over to mike focusing on the bay bridge backup. >> this is heavier than folks might expect there was an earlier crash that held folks up there. when that crash cleared all those folks released to the bay bridge at once. this might be heavier than you would predict. we are looking at the map though. other than that, no problem

increase in their monthly gas b. it is 6:14. pg&e customers will need to prepare for double-digit increases. over the next couple of years, monthly bills for natural gas are expected to rise an estimated 11%. that translates to about $6 tacked on to your monthly bill. the rate increases are set to

begin early august. the party bus driver who had teenagers with booze and drugs object his bus is expected to enter a plea in court today. james greene was arrested after a tip from a concerned parent. investigators say onboard that bus they found 33 minors, 30 bottles of hard liquor and a jar of marijuana. greene is facing four drug charges and one felony child endangerment charge. greene told police he did to the know there was alcohol onboard the bus. san francisco's bicoalition is calling for improvements to two city streets after two bicyclists were killed this week. they are asking to slow down traffic. a woman was killed when a driver ran a red light and another woman was killed while riding her bike in golden gate park. she was struck by a driver in a stolen car. >> what the city needs is to provide infrastructure, to provide engineering that makes the streets safer for all road users. we want to see protected bike

lanes across san francisco, specifically on the streets where both these crashes happened. >> police are asking for help finding the driver who hit the woman in golden gate park. 6:16, back to our breaking news, britain has voted to leave the eu. world markets have come unglued. >> a lot of people did not see this coming. shock across the world. dow futures plunged 500 points or worse. scott mcgrew, you've been on the phone with silicon valley leaders. >> a lot of concern this comes from the uncertainty, the fear, unease, the doubts. we have never seen anything like this before. the prime minister of great britain david cameron will resign effective october. london will have to negotiate over the next two years how it is going to leave the european union. it will not, it cannot be the center of european banking that it has been. it was an emotional vote throughout the uk. not necessarily an intelligent

vote. economists say great britons will take the brunt of their own decision with falling house prices and increased unemployment. what does it mean here at home? i put together a list for you. the stock market will suffer. the dollar will get stronger. that's not always a good thing. that makes it harder for our businesses to sell to the world. our mortgage rates will likely fall as the world pours money into the safety of american treasuries and travel to britain will be cheaper. the pound plummeted to levels we haven't seen since the 1980s. that's the financial side of it. we take a look at the political side of it. more countries will be tempted to leave the eu. some scandinavian countries who are eu members but don't use the euro could be the first to go. scotland may look to leave the united kingdom. this vote in great britain may

be a prediction of our own presidential election with concern donald trump may win. a word about concern. i'm telling you what the markets think. as a reporter, i'm politically neutral. mr. trump has proposed 40% taxes on silicon valley products made in china. he proposed not paying back american debt or negotiating it down, mainstream economists say that would damage the u.s. economy. moody's say that could lead to a recession. mr. trump is on british time. he is in scotland because he is proposing a new golf course. the vote to leave the eu, he says, was an excellent decision. you can see parallels from the brexit vote and trump election. people want to show their anger. >> it is not the same thing. british culture and american

culture, things they were fighting over aren't necessarily the same thing. >> not at all, but i think this populous movement is the same in both. >> you can feel it. thank you very much. if this isn't enough of a roller coaster, would you try this? >> your heart will stop. a 45-foot glass slide in downtown l.a. will be open to the public tomorrow for $8 thrill psychers can climb into the one inch thick tube and take the nearly straight down shot. the slide is part of a $50 million renovation that includes an open air observation deck and a bar. >> they are going to need to put a bar for the landing there. it seems a little unfinished. >> i don't know about high scores for our heat. >> it's going to be a hot one. unless you are in san francisco or along the coast where there will be enough of an onshore flow to keep temperatures down. we look at fog this morning.

you can't see the golden gate bridge. that will slowly start to clear as we go into the morning. temperatures will be held down there. it's now 57 in concord, oakland and san jose. 55 as you head out the door in most spots in the mid 50s. another hot one today. once again especially if you're away from the coast line. we'll have 80s from the north bay over toward the east bay and south bay. by tomorrow we'll start to see a few more 90s starting to creep in. that trend continues into the weekend with hot weather and over 100 degrees in parts of the central valley. shortly after sun set at the alameda county fair, temperatures will drop back to 70 with mostly clear skies. the trans march this evening, we will have great weather for that beautiful sunshine and temperatures in the mid 60s dropping back to 59 by 8:00. a lot of people heading out to the beach this weekend.

we have the concern of dangerous rip currents. also the weather that will be very nice with mostly sunny skies from ocean beach in the mid 60s to half moon bay 63. much cooler than the 90s we will see for those inland areas. santa cruz reaching into the upper 70s. looking ahead to the weekend, expect 80s and 90s for most of our microclimates. the peninsula rising up to 83 on saturday. some 90s for the tri-valley, north bay as well as south bay. san francisco once again will be a spot where we can cool off. mostly sunny and highs only in the low 70s for both saturday and sunday. let's head over to mike to see if there are any slowdowns on the roadways. >> tracking san jose. that's one of our later slowdowns. it's friday, lighter flow of traffic. south bay northbound 85 had an earlier crash. since that crash happened, we

paying off. at a meeting yesterday, bart directors were told that the efforts to encourage bicycling to b.a.r.t. stations are paying off. at a meeting yesterday, b.a.r.t. directors were told the number of people taking their bikes to train stations is up almost 4% since 2000. at that rate, 10% of b.a.r.t. riders will be bicycling to stations by 2022. that is significantly higher than what was first projected. 6:25. nbc bay area responds and puts money back into viewers'

welcome to today in the bay. that is the opening bell on wall street this morning. the new york stock exchange, it could be complete calamity today. dow futures are starting out 500 points down. from there the floodgates will open as the britons have voted to leave the european union taking the world by storm. scott mcgrew is going to tell what you this will mean not just for the markets but your pocketbook. good morning on this friday. thank you for joining us. i'm sam brock. >> i'm laura garcia-cannon. a warm day anticipated. >> it will be warm, especially for the valleys today as the sun heats us up. we have clouds along the coast that will help keep temperatures down. highs today reaching the 90s. 87 in the south bay.

a nice cool 72 in san francisco. we'll look at the microclimates as we head into the weekend coming up. >> no major injuries. as we look at your map, south bay shows northbound starting to kick in. northbound 880, we never saw any problems as far as going up to that dunbarton bridge. that crash involving a motorcycle off on the shoulder. . all lanes cleared and just that little bit of slowing for the tri-valley. hayward down toward the san mateo bridge with a little backup. we have a backup here and looks like lanes are starting to fill in on the approach.

we are following breaking news out of kern county this morning. this is video taken from overnight. over 5,000 ikers, actually 8,000 acres, wildfire out of control in kern county. this is happening northeast of bakersfield. the fire consumed over 100 homes. people are being evacuated. cell phone towers are down in that area. we expect crews from throughout the region to need help and assistance. those coming from the bay area. we'll attempt to give you updates. kris sanchez has been monitoring the fire. new information coming in. a tough fight in the central valley in kern county this morning. the negotiation with the european union will need to begin under a new prime minister. >> shocking words this morning, an international shake-up hours

ago. that was british prime minister david cameron telling the world he is resigning from his post as the people of great britain vote to reshape their future and leave the european union. >> scott mcgrew joins us. the markets opened in the last three minutes. what is happening? >> it's not as bad as we thought. dow industrials losing more than 300 points. live to the big board. now almost 500 points. we are beginning to accelerate. we saw maybe not the panic selling off the top. right now the s&p s&p is down less than 3%. we are okay there. the president just released a statement a moment ago. he is in the bay area right now saying, "the people of the united kingdom have spoken. we respect their decision. the special relationship between

the united states and the united kingdom is enduring." you mentioned the british prime minister will resign in the wake of this historic vote. for that let's go live to tracie potts live in washington, d.c. >> good morning. it was a shocker early this morning. we watched it unfold live as david cameron came out 10 downing street and said he is stepping down by october to stabilize things. cameron lobbied against the brexit. he thought the british government should stay in the european union and he lost the vote 52% handily in favor of leaving the eu. he said that choice, the will of the people must be expected. those on the losing side, himself and others, need to work to make this happen, but that he should not be spearheading it.

another prime minister will be in place, he expects, before they begin that long and arduous process of trying to disconnect from the eu, which could take years, at minimum two years. they've got contracts to renegotiate. all kinds of nuts and bolts and details. cameron said he should not be in charge of that but he wasn't for it. this is big news this morning. he will be going to the eu council next week to explain what's happened here. it looks like he is going to be bowing out soon as britain has this historic shift in its relationship with the eu, but also now likely very soon election for new prime minister. >> tracie potts live in washington, thank you. let's take you back over to new york city. this is the big board dow industrials now losing 511 points. less than 3%. david cameron will start the --

well, the next prime minister will start with article 50, the exit of the eu. the eu is going to be tough on britain. they have to be. the negotiations will be very tough. otherwise other countries are going to look at this and say, leaving the eu is not so bad. >> scotland has an interest. >> they may leave the uk as well. if you're scandinavia, if you're italy and britain has an easy time leaving the eu, they'll leave. >> they want there to be a chilling effect. >> right. >> tough taxes, tough air travel. >> the eu is going to be very hard on great britain to keep the rest together. >> the world's fifth largest economy. president obama is here in the bay area. also waking up to the news of the uk's decision. the president is in san francisco right now, but will hop on marine one and head south to sanford university. sharon is live at stanford

this morning with more on the president's visit. does it come at an interesting time right now. good morning. it sure did. a lot going on here in the bay area with president obama. he just made a comment about the european union vote. we'll have more on that later. last night he met with business leaders in san francisco for dinner, and today he is expected to meet with more business leaders here at stanford university. president obama will be speaking on campus today at the seventh annual global entrepreneurship summit. every year business leaders, investors and ecosystem supporters come to this event created by president obama. he will participate in a panel discussion with mark zuckerberg and others ready to provide input and be inspired. >> starts with someone needing something. >> i think he would be focused more on youth entrepreneurship

and i think he will focus more on africa. >> the summit is focusing on involving women, minorities and youth. president obama may even visit a cody camp for kids on cam yus today. this is all connected to the european union vote, illegal immigration and the economy. it will be interesting to see what is brought up today. i will cover the summit later this morning and i will bring you the latest. it is 6:38. it was an uneasy night for the president. not only the brexit vote but his immigration plan was blocked by the supreme court. many believe this is the biggest legal defeat of his presidency. >> we have to decide whether we are a people who accept the cruelty of ripping children from their parents' arms. or whether we value families. and weep them together for the same of all our kids. >> the court split 4-4 leaving

in place a lower court ruling that blocks two of the immigration orders. those measures would have allowed 4 million undocumented immigrants to leave work to live and work here legally on a temporary basis. more than a dozen south bay community groups announced a ruling and vowed to keep fighting. this group gathered in downtown san jose yesterday. one group says her family's future is uncertain. >> my mother would benefit by that. we were counting on it passing. we didn't expect for it to be let down. >> in east san jose, people gathered near our lady of guadeloupe church. a lot of families left in limbo. 6:39. celebrations this weekend as we have sf pride and the weather will cooperate might not be the best way to put that. >> it won't be bad in san francisco. temperatures will be much more comfortable. you have the alameda county

fair, nascar and sonoma. we start out this morning in sunol 58. a look at the microclimates. 95 in gilroy. 89 in palo alto. low 70s for san francisco. fairfield 93 and 96 in brentwood. oakland 79 and 89 in livermore. we'll take a closer look at that, what to expect this weekend as temperatures ramp up. that's less than ten minutes. mike is tracking a slower south bay drive. >> 65 is the limit. we have good speeds around most of the bay. watching a couple of key spots including the south bay. northbound 85 slow toward union. it's been sticking around all morning. 87 and 101. lighter than your typical friday. the dunbarton bridge slowing coming off the bay front

we'll join scott mcgrew in moments for a look how it affects you. local news. a former 49ers and raiders' star will be back in court after several delays. dana stubblefield is expected to enter a plea on a rape charge. he was officially charged almost a month ago. that case has been under investigation for more than a year. double field is accused of raping a woman described as mentally delayed in his home after she was interviewing for a babysitting job. that all happened last april. stubblefield maintains the sex was consensual and his lawyers deny the woman has a disability that prevented her from consenting. aldon smith has two legal issues to deal with today. he is back in court to try to block the evidence from last summer's dui hit-and-run crash in santa clara. that marks his fifth arrest since 2012 and ended his career with the san francisco 49ers. smith will be arraigned on a probation violation from a prior

conviction. it's unclear what incident that charge stems from. united kingdom voted to leave the european union, a decision that rocked the stock market causing the british prime minister also to resign and leaving europe just wondering what is next. >> economic fallout, political fallout. scott mcgrew monitoring all of this. starts out our coverage where the numbers are. >> let's take you out back to the big board. the new york stock exchange, the numbers are better than they were. that's funny when you see the dow industrials are down 444 points. it's the worst day on the s&p 500 since 1986. the vote was 52% leave, 48% stay. as recently as wednesday evening, it was too close to call. the britain will leave the eu. the brexit came as a surprise to most of us. economists and world leaders all warned british voters a vote to leave will hurt them

economically. in that sense they voted against their own best interest, emotion over money. donald trump was able to beat everyone to the statement, even the president of the united states. so the president did speak out a short time ago. trump is in scotland so he's on british time, not because he anticipated a brexit vote but because he is there to promote his own golf course. donald trump says it was an excellent decision for britain to leave the eu. >> i do want to talk about one thing that normally would be headline news on any other day. this is twilio. they opened the nyse yesterday. their stock rose 96%. it's a mountain view company, an ipo, a tech ipo that went incredibly well. the spigot is back open, we hope for tech ipos. any other day, we would be talking about twilio. >> we talked about them a little

temperatures in the central valley, especially as the fire crews try to get this kern county fire under control. today the temperatures will be topping out at 93 degrees. this fire burning just to the east of bakersfield near lake isabella. something that will be in the headlines. if you are going to the north bay for the sonoma raceway nascar race, big event on sunday. 90, mostly sunny skies k. stay hydrated and have the sun block out there. as you go into this evening for the trans march, it will be mostly sunny, beautiful weather, a lot of sunshine. temperatures in mid 60s dropping back to upper 50s. looking at all our micro climates, we'll have a range from 70s in san francisco to 80s in the peninsula and then some low 90s for the south bay. tri-valley will be up to 93 on saturday. we'll see that heat peaking in the north bay sunday. as you take a look at that

it is 6:57. welcome back to a very busy news morning. >> we'll start at home with an update to breaking news. kris sanchez tracking a destructive wildfire burning in the central valley. >> the erskine fire hasn't been burning a day yet but people have already lost everything. a national team is headed to kern county as we speak. about 100 homes are gone. 1,500 are at risk in the fire

line. thousands of people under evacuation orders, including senior citizens. the fire is now 8,000 acres and it is not contained. it's about the size of daly city. a hospital is now sheltering in place and three firefighters are being treated for smoke inhalation. the erskine fire is burning near lake isabella which has a number of camp grounds. if you were headed there this weekend, you should make other plans. we are watching for new information out of the command center this morning, including whether any bay area will deploy to that fire fight. i got word from emergency management office that only central valley crews are fighting. that could change. the erskine fire is burning in steep and rugg egedrugged terra. deep concern about a huge
