fourth of july right around the corner, and starting today police in several different cities are starting to crack down on illegal fireworks. in places like pacifica you can face thousand dollars fines or even jail time. the extreme fire danger is forcing counties and cities to step up their crack down efforts this year. some parts of the bay area do allow safe and sane fireworks.
6:14 am
you have to check with your city for legal fireworks you can enjoy this fourth of july holiday. and officials plan to show the dangers of the illegal fireworks today in santa clara. they will hold a news conference at 1:00 this afternoon. it's good to be prepared. 10,000 people nationwide end up in the er during the fourth of july weekend. >> if you're planning to hit the road on the fourth of july, expect some packed highways. it's going to be likely be the busiest. >> aaa predicts nearly 43 million americans will travel this holiday weekend. the majority are driving. since aaa started tracking in 2001, it's expected to be the highest. gas prices expected to be the lowest so far this year. it's maybe why so many are hitting the roads. we learned the word "brexit" now a new word "regret." >> speaking of hitting the road, now they want back in.
6:15 am
>> britain plus regret gives you bregret. many voters realized what they had done. they had voted to leave the eu. certainly the world's stock markets got their attention. the dow fell more than 600 points. many of britain is asking for a second vote to change their mind. the prime minister david cameron said he will resign. the vote between stay or leave was basically his idea, but he didn't expect britains to vote to leave. cameron will step down and allow the next prime minister to pull the trigger. send article 50 to the european union. the unreversible action that leaves great britain all by itself. who will be the next prime minister? it could be former london mayor boris johnson who is david cameron's rival. even though they're in the same political party. cameron has set him up to fail.
6:16 am
cameron is making him tell the guy they're leaving. the uk probably goes in recession. to the land and northern island leave. if he doesn't, he goes against the will of the people. the next prime minister is going to have a bad day either way. lots of people have compared johnson to our donald trump. and there are some similarities. lots of people made fun of trump online over the weekend after he congratulated the scotts on their vote to leave. he said they were taking their country back. scotland guys overwhelmingly voted to stay because they benefit from the eu. there was some concern mr. trump did not understand the brexit and the implications and congratulating the people who are devastated by the vote on their vote seemed peculiar. >> yeah. not well thought out. >> no. >> you don't have to be an expert of every area of foreign policy, but you need to understand the temperature in the room. >> that's a good idea.
6:17 am
>> or maybe hold the comments. >> i wait to see that. >> stop with my crazy talk. to a developing story and out of west virginia. historic flooding. the state is trying to dry out after flash flooding has already claimed 25 lives. at least. while the sun was out yesterday, more rain in the forecast today. that's causing a newfound wave of concern. >> dylan drier has the latest from the area. >> good morning, guys. here in white sulfur springs, west virginia i'm standing on main street. you can see a lot of activity behind me. this is a two-lane road normally. because of the recent rains one of the lanes washed down into the creek below. crews have been working since the crack of dawn to repair what they can. this is the scene we're seeing across west virginia. this is a one in 1,000 year event that occurred last thursday. we had 10 inches of rain fall in just 12 hours.
6:18 am
that lead to devastating flash flooding. it's taken at least 25 lives now because of the deadly flooding as well. so we have more rain in the forecast later on today. even though it did dry out over the weekend. it helped to recede some of the flood waters. if we get some of these heavier downpours later on this afternoon and evening, that produces the heaviest of the rain in some of the hardest hit areas that can lead to more flash flooding. that's the biggest concern for later today. we'll see improvements as things dry out for the rest of the week. in the meantime, the area is working as hard as they can to clean things up. we'll have more coming up on the "today" show a little bit later today. >> all right. thank you, dylan. from epic storms there to pretty epic heat we've been seeing the last few days. that's not showing any signs of stopping. >> yeah. it keeps on turning up. >> should we call -- >> yeah. it's going to be hot. and as especially for the inland

areas. now the coast you're catching a break. here is live look from san bruno mountain. you can see the amazing shot of the clouds just rolling by as we get a view from the camera high atop the mountain. so our temperatures are starting out at 52 degrees in san francisco. it's 51 degrees in santa rosa, and san jose at 59 degrees. so not a bad start to the day, but let's check out livermore as we go hour by hour. we start out at 69 at 8:00. 10:00 temperatures are jumping up quickly each couple of hours. lunchtime it's already too hot outside to take the lunch out. it will be 100 degrees as you look out for the commute. we'll have the air conditioners on full blast through at least 8:00. and then the temperatures come down enough for you to open up the windows and let this fresh air. it will be another hot dare. we're going to see those triple digits temperatures in parts of the bay area. in gill roy up to 102.
