"today in the bay" starts right now. and a very good morning now. thank you for joining us. i'm laura garcia-cannon. >> and i'm sam brock. go big or go home, kari, hot temperatures again, good morning. >> it will be hot for the inland areas. the coastal spots will be cooling off a little bit more from yesterday, so now at 52 degrees in san francisco, and a clear start in the north bay for only 48 degrees. it will be reaching 92 today, and 88 in the south bay, tri valley also into the upper 90s, while we'll have mid-70s in the

east bay, and a nice comfortable 67 in san francisco. so still a wide range in temperatures that continues into the weekend, i'll have a look at that fourth of july forecast coming up in a few minutes. any surprises for the drive so far this morning, mike? >> no. that's a tree right now. no surprises but kari, you showed some of the low clouds watch it along the golden gait and bay bridge. we'll talk about that a second after we look at the sensors around the bay. no surprises. little slowing shows up east across the dumbarton bridge, likely a road crew. we haven't heard of any problems and same thing eastbound 24 around the warren freeway interchange. let's look at the bay bridge we talked about. there are low clouds right at the top of the treasure island and the east shore freeway and the backup on the left for cash opened for the morning commute. we move to a developing story overseas. istanbul's busy ataturk airport is back open this morning, just hours after terrorists sent

explosions through those terminals with people in the airport running out, leaving dozens of people dead. though it's back open it's an active crime scene >> this morning, sam, we're hearing from panicked passengers returning to the bay area following that attack. "today in the bay's" kris sanchez tracking the overnight developments for us and kris, there's fear more terror attacks could take place soon. >> right, u.s. officials in turkey on the ground there say that this could be the beginning of a summer of attacks. they emphasized there is no reason to believe that our airports here are a target. meanwhile at the airport in istanbul, police and emergency crews are still on the scene of the airport, where so many people were killed. turkish officials believe that isis was responsible. witnesses say they heard gunfire first, and then while police were taking aim at those gunmen they then detonated suicide bombs. experts say it was a well-coordinated attack. it is worth noting, though, that the terrorists struck outside the security checkpoint, so they
5:03 am
were not inside the airport. they did not breach security. at sfo we met one people who were caught up in the terror waiting for loved ones from istanb istanbul, not knowing if the attack was over and from a passenger, too, who watched the news coverage unfold on the plane. >> i was like this has to be old. turns out it wasn't and i just completely froze. >> even though they were already over canada, i was still worried about if somebody's on the plane, that it's not over. >> reporter: u.s. agents inspect foreign airports regularly, sometimes they do it undercover. they inspection cargo. flight crews, ground crews, service checked under a terrorist watch list and undergo regular criminal background checks if they're arriving here in the u.s. if you have summer travel plans though you should not see a change in airport security here in the u.s., as security is already high. sam and laura? >> very frightening.

and lease revenue for the city every year. some concerns over the project include lack of affordable housing in the area for those who would work on the new development and at the new businesses. also a future phase of the project would take over the nearby dirt bike track so developers from related company have promised to eventually find a new home for the dirt bike track and back here live, this final approval from the city council isn't the last to be done though because there might be some court challenges and state regulators may weigh in but developers say they're definitely going to keep moving forward on this project. reporting live from santa clara, i'm sharon katsuda, "today in the bay." >> it is 5:15 right now. could san francisco get a bigger slice of the pie? all the big-name tech companies in the city might pay a new tax, a ballot measure was introduced yesterday that would charge certain tech companies 1.5% of their annual payroll. that's expected to generate $120

loans and sent its ceo out on the street. lending club had launched with great fanfare. the san francisco company was going to disrupt big banks with its peer-to-peer lending, but after some trouble, some of the big money dried up, making it harder to find money to loan out. the company parted ways with its founder ceo renault leprash. there are new revelations he and his family took out dozens of loans from lending club, they paid them back quickly so no problem there but the speculation is the loans were taken out to pump up the loan numbers at the company. the markets gained tuesday, though it's too early to call it maybe a recovery but we turn to landon dowdy live at cnbc world headquarters for the latest. landon? >> hi scott, good morning to you. wall street could refire for the second straight day as analysts continue to analyze the brexit.
