another tense scene in oakland overnight as a car slams into a home. the damage left behind this morning. and police activity at the googleplex, details coming into our newsroom. today in the bay starts right now. thank you for joining us. >> let's get to the forecast. you're going to notice it's cooler out there this morning. once you step out the door there's definitely a chill in the air. you can see in san jose right now no fog but the onshore marine layer has developed. we'll have 80s for places like the south and north bay. we'll talk about the forecast and in the meantime mike is getting you to work on time. you'll be on time if you leave on time because there are no major delays as we look at

the sensors around the bay. and the bridge eastbound, we had some slowing that just cleared and now moving toward the hayward side. there are flashing lights there. there's some right down here on the approach toward the span as well. that's crews moving around the bay. calmer on the peninsula side. a lot of activity on the east side. a wild pursuit through the streets of oakland ended with a cruiser smashing into a fire hydrant and three parked cars. >> the aftermath there does not look good. how did it unfold. >> reporter: it started when two officers driving together spotted a vehicle with expired registration. they tried to stop that car. the driver had another idea and that's when the driver took off at speeds of up to 100 miles an hour on westbound 580.

ten miles down the road leading those officers. those officers on the chase and then here is how the chase ended. the chp suv crashed into the fire hydrant and then wedged between several parked cars and then a building. the fourth was enough to sheer off a light pole too. looking at this video you might not believe no one was hurt in this crash but during the chase the suspects got creative in trying to get away. >> the passenger in the vehicle pulled something akin to a fire extinguisher attempting to evade the unit. >> reporter: neither officer was hurt but their suv was in no shape to continue the chase so the suspect got away. we are working to get a vehicle description.

we will make sure you have it as well. >> thank you. it's been an active night in the east bay and specifically in oakland. a black toyota camry crashed into a home not far from the oracle arena. the driver appears to have lost control first crashing into a fire hydrant and breaking that hydrant causing the water to gush out. the driver proceeded to hit a telephone pole before landing in a house. we're still working to confirm details about what caused the driver to lose control. we have breaking news out of mountain view this morning. police were seen comping through the googleplex overnight. we have limited details about the investigation but as soon as we hear from the police this morning we'll give you an update. we're updating all these stories on our website where you can download the free app for instant information as soon as it comes in.

now to the latest developments out of istanbul this morning. police sources are telling nbc news that the attackers are from russian. turkish police have arrested 13 people connected with the attack on the airport. turkey's president is vowing his country will overcome terror groups. he says terrorists are trying to keep turkey from becoming one of the world's ten strongest economies. no specific group has claimed responsibility for the attack but the turkish government says it has the hallmarks of isis. the death toll stands at 42 people. a british videographer who had landed took these pictures and helped a man in a wheelchair get to a safe place. >> people sprinted to get to the corridor, huge masses of families struggling with kids and babies and small children and all trying to get back away from the area. >> at this point the airport is back open as the investigation and the cleanup continue.

it is time for report right now. a park ranger was robbed in her home. the 94-year-old woman woke up to an intruder in her home monday night. the suspect punched her several times and she was able to get away and she locked herself in a room. after the thief left she discovered her phone and ipod and jewelry and that coin was taken. this is the story we did when she traveled to the white house last december to receive that coin. call the police if you have information on this robbery. a walnut creek woman is facing manslaughter charges after she allegedly killed a teenager while driving under the influence. yesterday we reported on the crash that happened. the 50-year-old woman is accused of driving her car head on into two girls walking down the street. the 15-year-old girl was killed

instantly. her 16-year-old best friend is in stable condition in the hospital. the family is coping with a huge loss. >> she's my best friend. she's a big part of my live. she has a special place in my heart and she will never be forgotten. >> police are waiting on lab reports to see exactly what charges she will face. a fatal crash in the north bay. a big rig slams into a tree and bursts into flames. witnesses jumped out of their cars to try to help out but it was all too late. the fire engulfed the truck killing the driver. no word yet on what caused that crash. the chp says it received reports that the truck was driving erratically but the agency doesn't know if that call was related to the crash. an incident in santa rosa forced power to be cut to homes last night. a man climbed an electrical tower and refuse in had to get

down. the man may have climbed the tower in some sort of protest. a police negotiator convinced him to down and he's in custody. a grim discovery made in the ashes of a southern california wildfire. the fire destroyed five homes and 11 structures after it ignited 11 days ago. yesterday firefighters discovered the remains of two people in a ravine. authorities have not yet confirmed if it may the bodies of a young man and woman reported missing after the fire started. tense moments last night. flames threatening homes and firefighters battling from the ground and air as you see here trying to maintain it. they kept it to five acres. the fire is out and no word on how it started. a new face this morning. anthony is joining us for the forecast. big changes on the way. in fact i was looking at numbers from yesterday and we had cool

fedel safety ficials areissuing about defective takata air gs. tests found some of the a bs may be even more prone to federal safety officials are issuing an urgent warning about defective air bags. some air bags may be more prone to deadly malfunctions than previously thought. >> tracy is joining us with more. we know age and exposure to humidity makes these air bags more dangerous and if you drive an older car you're being urged to take action immediately. >> reporter: the government is concerned there are 300,000 people out there that may be driving cars that are more dangerous than once thought. this is what is left of a 14-year-old honda. the when air bag exploded it killed the teenager driving it. >> with the new data we know how bad it can be. flipping a coin in a crash you don't know if you could end up having the shrapnel coming at

you. >> reporter: it is estimated there are 300,000 older cars on the road that have not been repaired. notifications have been sent but some owners haven't followed up. >> i'm here for the air bag service. >> reporter: no tests on the older cars found that when people drove them in hot damp places like florida along the gulf coast of texas and southern california the inflaters malfunctioned causing an explosion. in lab tests the inflaters ruptured 50% of the time. >> of the ten united states lives that have been lost eight have been in these vehicles. >> reporter: many cars have been recalled since 2008. honda says 70% have been remarried. it's the 30% they're trying to fix. >> one car at a time. now we reached out to honda. they said they are trying to get in touch with these 300,000 owners that they haven't reached

that for 70s and 80s. we have fog at the coast line. that's keeping the shore cool and that's the onshore breeze but then you have high pressure off towards the four corners region and that's pumping in the desert air. over the next couple of days we will be cool at the coast line but seeing warming for inland locations. here is a look at the holiday forecast. look at monday, closer to 90 but still back in the 80s. the peninsula will climb to 80 and san francisco you'll be in the 60s through the weekend and through monday. in the north bay temperatures will be closer to 90. east shore staying in the 70s and the tri-valley temperatures in the 90s. temperatures are going to cool after as he head toward the weekend and go back up for the fourth much juof july. clear skies but fog rolling in

flight shows there may have been a fire below the cockpit floor. the wreckage shows signs of high temperature damage and soot. the plane crashed last month. some relief this morning for the people of puerto rico after lawmakers passed a bailout bill. tomorrow is the deadline for puerto rico to make a $2 billion payment to creditors. u.s. territory is swimming in $70 billion of debt. the president has indicated he will sign that bill. it will be quite the birthday celebration for the most decorated olympian of all time. michael phelps turns 31 yesterday. >> forget about birthday cake, he was at the center of attention last night at the swimming trials. he punched his ticket to rio

a black toyota camry crashes into a home not far from oracle arena. it crashed into a fire hydrant breaking the hydrant. we put calls into opd and we're trying to get more information about what spawned that trial of crashes. also in oakland this morning a wild pursuit through city streets that ended with a cruiser smashing into a fire hydrant and three parked cars as well. >> chris has been tracking that story for us this morning. >> reporter: it started when two officers working the grave yard shift spotted a car with expired registration and they tried to pull that driver over and that driver had another idea and started a chase that went up to 100 miles an hour. the driver took off on westbound 580 leading those officers on to 580 off on to foothill boulevard and here is how the chase ended

at mcarthur avenue. the chp cruiser crashed into a fire hydrant and cars and a building. you might not believe no one was hurt but during the chase the suspect got creative in trying to get away. >> the passenger in the vehicle pulled something akin to a fire exsting wisher and was spraying the units pursuing it. >> reporter: that officer says either they were trying to evade the officers or they were trying to taunt them. neither officers were hurt. no one on the street was hurt but the suv was clearly in no shape to continue that chase and the suspects did get away. we are working to get a detailed description from the chp. if they believe it's helpful we'll make sure you get it. >> we are constantly updating these stories on our website or

you can download the free app for instant information. a movie theater turned into a violent crime scene. a man was stabbed during a show and it might have been a random attack. it happened about 4:00 yesterday afternoon. the suspect snuck up behind the man and stabbed him several times before fleeing. the victim is in the hospital this morning with serious wounds. the suspect has been arrested. the country's oldest park ranger brutally robbed in her home and punched in the midst of that. the thief reportedly stole a coin given to her by president oba obama. >> good morning, bob. >> reporter: good morning. richmond police are looking for the man who broke into betty's apartment in the hilltop area of richmond who then broke in there, beat and robbed her.

she is seen here in a profile piece we did a couple of years ago is at 94 years old is the oldest park ranger in the country. early monday morning she was awoken by the introducer. she tried to call 911 but the burglar grabbed her phone and perju punched her several times. she was able to lock herself in a bathroom while the man stole her iphone and jewelry and the coin given to her by president obama. the park service is asking the public to keep an eye out for that coin. it's a one of a kind piece. reporting live, today in the bay. >> thank you very much. the man accused of shooting and killing a hayward police signature is goi sergeant is going to be in court for two here's. he's charged with killing the

officer almost a year ago. that shotting happened during a routine traffic stop. he will be in court for a pretrial hearing and a plea hearing. the police department scrambling to keep up with the homicide rate. the shooting tuesday was the 24th of the year. this time last year there were only ten. the mayor says the city needs more officers and the union agrees saying staffing shortages is leading to fatigue. >> it's likely you will get an officer who is on his day off or has completed his shift. >> the mayor is pushing to improve pay and benefits for officers. thousands much more signatures calling for an investigation into the judge for sentencing brock turner for six months in jail.

there are 200,000 signatures on top of the 1 million signatures that have been submitted. advocates are asking the agency to investigate the judge over what many are calling lenient sentencing. oakland landlords taking legal action to stop a fee they consider garbage arguing it's unconstitutional and the fee has everything to do with garbage or trash collection. a group representing landlords filed a suit yesterday over a deal the city made with waste management two years. landlords call the fee a tax and all taxes must be approved by voters. garbage rates have more than doubled since the trash deal took effect. dumpster fees are about $10,000 higher per year. >> eventually it will get transferred to new tenants moving in because somebody has go the to be able to break that

$10,000 a year extra. >> landlords are asking for an injunction to stop the fee and reimbursement for the money they've paid out. san francisco city leaders may be ready to consider a new funding option to finance help for the homeless population. they are getting ready to start homeless services. the committee is going to discuss the idea of a homeless and housing service fund. voters will consider a sales tax this november that will provide more money for the homeless over the next two years. suspicious, a growing number of fires in the district has some wondering if an arsonist is trying to push out the poor. it's too big a coincidence that low income residents have lost their homes. the most recent loss happened two weeks ago. the cause of that fire is still unknown. >> ten years ago the mission accounted for 3.3% of the fires

and ten years later it's three times that number. >> we have reports that are showing that these fires are not arson. >> fires have displaced people in the district. firefighters are being challenged battling this fire. it's grown to 2,000 acres and it's 12% contained. the fire is in the path of 2,000 structures prompting widespread evacuati evacuations. >> we're getting cooling temperatures and i'm assuming that's happening across the state. we are talking about cooler weather. you can see is that because we have the marine layer that formed over san francisco and it has pushed inland over the inner bay. 52 at half moon bay.

hayward 57. san jose at 58. san jose will be up to 78 later on but 60s along the coast line from san francisco to santa cruz. we're back in the 80s for livermore and concord. we are going to stay on this cooling trend with fog at the coast line and high pressure starting to move off and that will lead to more cooling over the weekend. we'll talk more about the forecast coming up. mike is tracking the morning commute. some folks are heading out of town but we're looking at a typical pattern of traffic. we're going to zoom in here. a couple of issues on the map. northbound 1 on 1 we saw southbound 880 reports of a disabled vehicle in the middle of the roadway. also you have a live shot just north of there. southbound 880 as you travel

house to topple over and crh onto t homes low. a mudslide in japan caused this house to topple over crashing into homes below. it was caught on camera. heavy rain has pounded southern japan over the past week. video shows the house falling off and breaking into pieces as it collided with the ones on the lower side of the cliff there. the good news is no one was hurt. >> incredible to see. the mechanical problem forced an emergency landing of this plane in san jose yesterday. video captures moments inside the plane during the landing. you hear applause after it finished. those on board clapped when the plane touched down. it was on its way to san jose when it started to experience mechanical issues. the plane landed safely p. more than 600 bay area

size to quote snuff out the competition. hard drive maker seagate will layoff 1,600 workers. the company's worldwide so we're not sure how many will be effected in the bay area. wall street was hoping for a positive day and then things got weirder in great britain. boris johnson who we all assumed would be the next prime minister has dropped out of the race so futures are in the red this morning. we'll talk more about that situation coming up in about 30 minutes. a viral video to suggest a way britain might wiggle out of what he's done.

that's going to lead to cooling across our inland valley. 70s in the inner bay and 80s for the south bay and north bay and tri-valley. the thing about these temperatures they are going down. it's still going to be warm but it's not going to be 90s and triple digits. but we'll see 80s and you'll notice reading 100 degrees. so high pressure staying in control and is going to continue to pump in that warm air especially for the inland valleys exhibit bvalle valleys, but we have a strong marine layer layer and we'll see cooling there and cooling for inland locations. the temperatures are going to cool off just a little bit for saturday and then they go up for sunday and monday. saturday up to 80 degrees. 85 for sunday and 88 for monday. the peninsula will reach 80 by monday. san francisco eventually will get close to 70 degrees on

monday with morning fog each and every morning. north bay, east shore and tri-valley will see temperatures above average once we hit sunday pushing close to 90 degrees. here it is the official fourth of july forecast, expect a little bit of fog to develop around 9:30 as the fireworks get going. keep in mind, you know how it goes, the fireworks shoot up in the clouds and you get a glare. you get the bang and boom. no bang or boom or crashes reported. nothing major going on for the bay. we're looking at 880 but i don't see slowing. we see slowing south on hayward. it slows off of 238 and south of the 92 enter change. a little slow over here for the tri-valley just a bit. now as we look toward san jose a

live camera shows you that volume of traffic holding steady and that's the reason for some slowing. >> thank you very much. a teen-age girl fighting for her life this morning after being rescued from a burning home in hayward. firefighters say the girl was trapped in the back bedroom when the flames started yesterday. mike saw the fire when he was driving by. he says the girl's brother and nephew were outside shouting for help. the 16-year-old girl was trapped inside. >> i got five feet in and the smoke was too thick and i couldn't breathe. it got too hot so i had to back out. >> firefighters arrived a few minutes later and they pulled the girl out. she was taken to the hospital. a man who had climbed down a cliff was safely air lifted yesterday. firefighters had to strap that hiker to a backboard and then
