july. mike is getting you to work on time. we have a couple of crashes to tell folks about and they're in the east bay. east bay for the most part typical out of the tri-valley but here it is a westbound right around the zoo exit we have a minor fender bender reported here. over the the bay bridge toll plaza the second of the crashes, that was a big concern. i don't see any interruptions in the flow nor do i see any crashes. the bridge crew takes care of things quickly here. >> thanks. breaking news right now out of the east bay this morning where a wild chp chase came to a crashing end with a patrol cruiser taking out a fire hydrant and several parked cars before coming to rest against a building in oakland. >> chris joins us now. the good news is no one was hurt

in this crash all rig. >> reporter: no one was hurt. either of the two officers in that patrol suv nor anybody on the street but it happened around 2:30 as those officers were trying to pull over a car with expired registration and the driver took off at that point. it happened on westbound 580 near eagle canyon road. there were speeds up to 100 miles an hour until the suspect took an exit off the freeway and continued to mcarthur boulevard. the chase ended when the cruiser crashed into the fire hydrant and smashed into three cars and ended up wedged between those cars and a building. before the chase ended the suspects got creative in trying to get away. >> the passenger in the vehicle pulled something akin from a fire extinguisher.

>> reporter: neither officers was hurt but the suv was clearly in no shape to go back into that chase. we are working on a vehicle disruption because the suspects did get away. >> thank you for the update. look at this, more breaking news out of oakland when a black toyota camry crashed into a home not far from oracle arena. the driver appears to have lost control crashing into the fire hydrant there, breaking the hydrant causing water to gush out like a geyser. the driver proceeded to hit a telephone pole before stopping in that house. we're working to confirm more details about what caused the driver to lose control. breaking news out of mountain view. that's where police were seen comping through googleplex early this morning. they set up a perimeter as they were trying to find a suspect

but investigators are not telling us specifically who they're looking for. you might recall just a few weeks a google earth demo car was fire bombed on campus. the country's oldest park ranger was brutally robbed inside her home. the thief stole a coin given to the 94-year-old given to her by president obama. >> we have video of the story that we did when betty traveled to the white house last december to receive that coin. she woke up to an intruder in her home. she was punched several times but she was able to get away and locked herself in a room. after the thief left she discovered many items and the coin taken. call the police if you have any information about this robbery. santa rosa movie theater, a man was stabbed during a show

and it might have been random. it happened around 4:00 yesterday afternoon. the suspect snuck up behind the man and stabbed him several times before fleeing. the victim is in the hospital this morning with serious wounds. the suspect has been arrested. following news from yesterday, a walnut creek woman is facing manslaughter charges after she killed a teenager while she was driving under the influence. that happened on tuesday. the 50-year-old woman is accused of driving her car head on into where two girls were walking down a street. the 15-year-old girl was killed instantly and her 16-year-old best friend is in stable condition at a local hospital and the family is trying to cope with this loss. >> she's my best friend. she's a really big part in my life. she has a special place in my heart and she will never be forg forgotten. >> police are wait og lab reports to see what kind of charges she will face.

a deadly crash in the north bay, a big rig slams into a tree and as you see there it burst into flames. it happened yesterday. witnesses jumped out of their cars to try to help out but it was too late. the fire ungulfed the truck killing the driver. there was a report that the truck was driving erratically. the man accused of shooting and killing a police sergeant will be in court for two hearings today. the 21-year-old man is charged with killing the sergeant nearly a year ago. the shooting happened during a routine traffic stop. he will appear for a pretrial hearing and then he'll be back in court for a plea hearing. in a push getting stronger thousands of more signatures calling for an investigation of judge aaron perski.

he sentenced brock turner for six months in jail. a group of advocates and assault survivors handed a group more than 200,000 signatures on top of 1 million signatures that have been submitted. advocates are asking that agency to investigate the judge over what many are killing an overly lenient sentencing of brock turner. conditions are challenging firefighters battling this fire outside sacramento. it has grown to 1,000 acres and it's only 12% contained. the fire is in the path of more than 2,000 structures prompting widespread evacuations. tense moments in martinez last night. flames threatened homes and the fire is contained to five acres. the fire is out and no word of

how it started. elevated temperatures have fueled a lot of fires but now we're getting a pull back. >> that will be nice. let's check in with anthony slaughter. we have that marine layer in place this morning and that will lead to cooling. we're looking at cloudy skies as the marine layer takes hold. many of us will see cooling and many of us see temperatures cool yesterday. we will still have a few 80s for the south bay. fog will stay put at the coast line but high pressure starts to back off over the next couple of days allowing for the sea breeze to reinforce and that will lead to cooling over the weekend. things do warm up for the fourth of july. we'll have that forecast coming up in about ten minutes. mike is tracking the morning commute. i have a couple of crashes in oakland as well as i think is

people are being urged to take action right away. >> reporter: absolutely. it's urgent. the national traffic highway administration says those older cars could be more dangerous than first thought. this is what's left of a 14-year-old honda civic after a collision in march. when the air bag exploded the teenager was killed. data has officials trying to reach owners of older cars. >> with the new data we know how bad it can be. literally flipping a coin in a crash you don't know if you could end up having the shrapnel coming at you. >> reporter: there are about 300,000 older cars on the road that have not been repaired. notifications have been sent but some owners haven't followed up. >> i'm here for the air bag service. >> reporter: no tests on these older cars with takata air bags found when people drove them in hot damp places like florida and

the gulf coast of texas and southern california the inflaters malfunctioned causing shrapnel to go flying. the inflaters ruptured 50% of the time. >> of the ten united states lives that have been lost, eight have been in these vehicles. >> reporter: many cars have been recalled since 2008. honda says 70% have been repaired, it's the other 30% they're trying to fix one car at a time. honda said they have been trying to track down all of these owners including the 300,000 outstanding that may be particularly dangerous sending millions of letters and automated voice messages texts to cell phones and they said they've hired private investigators in a few occasions to track down people that they've completely lost. >> hopefully they are able to connect with them. reporting live from d.c. thank you very much.

the man who once claimed he own half of facebook has disappeared and the feds are trying to hunt him down. you may remember him making claims to facebook in 2010 and presenting a document with zuckerberg's signature on it. mark said the claims were bogus and fought back hard. >> the judge wanted to make sure by digging deep into the communication between the two that the claims were false. >> authorities allege that zuckerberg's signature was doctored. he faces up to 40 years in prison and hundreds of thousands of dollars in fines but he's been on the run since last year. authorities believe he's traveling with his wife and two children. britain's cloudy future managed to get worse this morning as the leading candidate for prime minister dropped out. >> boris johnson is not going to

along the coast line today will stay cool. we're talking 60s for ocean beach. inland temperatures will be warmer but not bad. oakland up to 68 degrees. even the tri-valley no 90s today and back into the mid 80s towards livermore. we have high pressure in control so as it continues to back off and move down to the desert southwest that will allow for our typical sea breeze and that's going to mean cooler weather into the weekend and then temperatures start to climb as we head towards sunday. saturday, south bay at 80 and close to 90 on monday. peninsula you'll be close to 80 on the fourth of july. san francisco you'll be back in the mid 60s and expect morning fog through the holiday weekend.

then by monday we will be pushing back close to 90 degrees for some inland valleys. if you're headed to san francisco on monday for the fourth of july keep in mind while it be clear around 9:30 to 10 time we'll see the fog roll back in. keep in mind you may not see all of the fireworks but i think you have a good chance of seeing most of them. we're looking at a nice flow of traffic around the bay but the volume is starting to kick in and that's a problem over here in hayward where we have this crash. still scant on the details but we see slowing from that crash so that must be effecting at least one lane. things move well and then bogd down in industrial and things start to let up again towards union city. we're looking westbound we see that once you get past the toll

bay. earlier the crashes we had in oakland are cleared but hayward we're watching southbound 880 that jams down with a crash. those are both moved off the roadway but you see that slower drive. you can see things are lighter around the bay so we're getting recovery there. northbound is starting to kick in for the slow down. we have north 101 with another slow down and 680 with reports of a fire. we have more breaking news this morning. chp says deputies trying to pull over a car, the driver of the car didn't stop and deputies followed in a chase that at times reached speeds of up to wul miles an hour. it ended at mcarthur boulevard and byron avenue in oakland when the cruiser crashed into a fire

early monday she was awokened by the intruder. she tried to call 911 but the burglar grabbed her phone and dragged out of her bedroom and punched her some more. he stole several items and a coin president obama gave her last summer. the police are asking the public to keep an eye out for that coin. it's a one of a kind piece. reporting live in richmond, today in the bay. >> thank you very much. there are new developments out of turkey and new word about who might have been behind this week's deadly terror attacks as the drag net to find suspects continues. a sources indicated the attackers who died at the airport were nationals, some were from russia.

authorities say a series of overnight raids have left more than 20 people detained up from 13 armiearlier this morning. isis was previously targeted for the attack. the attack has killed 42 people and injured more than 240. the police department is scrambling to keep up with the homicide rate. tuesday's shooting was the 24th of the year. the mayor says the city needs for officer and the union agrees saying staffing shortages are contributing to fatigue. >> it's likely you will get an officer who is here on their day off or have completed their shift and is being held over. >> the mayor is pushing for a ballot measure to improve pay and benefits for officers. a teen-age girl is fighting fo are her life after being

rescued from a burning home. the girl was trapped in a back bedroom when flames erupted yesterday. mike was driving by when he saw her brother and nephew outside shouting for help. the 16-year-old girl was trapped inside. >> i got five feet in and the smoke was too thick and kind of overwhelming. i couldn't breathe. it got to hot. >> firefighters arrived a few minutes later and they pulled the girl out of the house. she was taken to the hospital and is suffering from severe injuries. a growing number of fires in the mission district have some people wondering if an arsonist is trying to push out the poor. the sprrv says it's too big a coincidence that low income residents lost their home. the most recent fire is under information. >> ten years ago the mission accounted for 3.3% of the fires

and ten years later it's three times that number. >> we do have reports that are concluded that are showing that these fires are not arson. >> fires have displaced about 200 people in the last 18 months along. a mechanical problem forced the emergency landing of this plan into san jose's airport yesterday. video capturing the moments inside the plane. you can hear the applause. that flight had taken off from burbank and was on its way to san jose. the plane did land safely. here it is at the gate after that or deal. more than 600 bay area homeowners making noise, they're upset over loud airplanes flying over their properties. many people living in the area

$50 million to help the homeless. oakland landlords are taking action to stop a fee they call unconstitutional. the fee has to do with trash collection. the landlords filed suit yesterday over the deal the city made with waste management two years ago allowing a 30% fee. landlords say the fee is a tax and all taxes must be approved by voters. they say garbage rates have more than doubled since the fee took effect. >> it will get transferred to new tenants moving in because somebody's got to be able to break that $10,000 a year extra. >> landlords are asking for an injunction to stop the fee and reimbursement for the extra money they've paid out. so far city attorneys are not commenting. the weather forecast does not stink. anthony slaughter is joining us

it's not clear if there's a shooting at this point. word getting in is that it happened at the medical facility on the base and all personnel there directed to shelter in place. we'll attempt to bring you more information as soon as it becomes available to us. a mudslide in japan caused a house to topple over and crash on to the houses below. that entire scene was caught on camera. heavy rain had pounded southern japan over the past week. video seen on japanese television showed the house breaking into pieces as it collided with those on the lower side of the cliff. fortunately throughout all of that nobody was injured. a grime discovery made in the ashes of a southern california wildfire. the fire destroyed five homes and 11 structures after it started 11 days ago. yesterday firefighters discovered the remains of two people in a ravine.

authorities have not yet confirmed if it may be the bodies of a young man and woman who were first reported missing shortly after that fire started. the pentagon is work og a new policy. >> a new policy is going to allow transgender people to serve in the u.s. military. we are expecting an announcement this week on that topic. this would end one of the final bans on service in the military. there are reports that several senior military leaders believe this plan is moving too fast with many details still not resolved. students who attend in the the bankrupt cor theeen college don't have to pay their student loans back. the obama administration has a agreed to forgive debt owed by the former students. the college filed for bankruptcy last year. corinthian schoo corinthian school students don't

the coast line but inland today. we're talking temperatures very comfortable for most of us. 70s, so comfortable weather expected. 77 for the east bay and 74 for the peninsula and a little warm for the tri valleys but san francisco only up to 76 degrees. we have high pressure that's starting to back off a little bit and that's going to lead to some warm spots. even reading 100 degrees. look at the next couple of days. temperatures cool off by a couple of degrees. not a lot but that high pressure sliding off to the south and eventually that's going to lead to some very cool weather especially by saturday. look at that south bay up to 80 degrees but as we head towards the holiday weekend monday it will be 88 degrees. by monday expecting a temperature of 80 degrees. san francisco will be your cool spot, along the coast line we're

expecting 60. so definitely not perfect beach weather but comfortable if you want to get out there and enjoy it. lots of sunshine. temperatures climbing up as we head towards sunday and monday and eventually we'll see highs on monday close to 9d 0 degrees. temperatures cool off and back up on sunday and monday but for the fireworks in san francisco temperatures will be comfortable. jacket weather even. we're talking upper 50s as the fireworks kickoff. by 9:30 clouds are expected to start to move in so we're not expecting an overly cloudy sky but keep in mind the fog will be rolling in around 9:30 on monday. let's look toward the bay area commute and we see a nice drive over. we do see nongreen that would be slowing for the south bay kicking in. no surprises. we will take you up to the upper east shore where westbound 80

oracle arena. the driver appears to have lost control coming off of 880 at high street crashing into that fire hydrant breaking the hydrant causing water to gush out like a geyser. the driver proceeded to hit a telephone pole before landing in that house. breaking news from google overnight where police were scene combing through the googleplex this morning. police set up a perimeter with search dogs as they look for a suspect but investigators aren't saying who they're looking for. limited details about the investigation. we'll check in with police for an update. we have concerning breaking news from the washington area and specifically from joint base a andrews where there's reports of an active shooter. that base was placed on lock down just after 6:00 our time, 9:00 their time. all personnel have been directed to shelter in place. this is still an active lock

down. it's not clear if there was an actual shooting at this point but that base is the home of air force one and to other emergency reaction units for the area around the nation's capital and it's important that we note they had a scheduled active shooter drill set for the exact same time 6:00 a.m. eastern at about 6:02 or 6:03 that's when we learned of reports of an active shooter for real. a movie theater turned into a crime scene. this might not have been a random attack. the suspect snuck up behind the man and stabbed him several times before fleeing. the victim is in the hospital this morning with serious wounds. the suspect has been arrested. time to get a quick check of weather and traffic together. let's start with anthony. it's looking good. we've got cooling and fog at the coast line.

it's 54 degrees and 58 around the east bay and 56 for the peninsula. we'll see temperatures today in the 80s. low 80s for the south bay and mid 70s for the peninsula and cool at the coast line. we're talking 60s. this cooling trend continues into the weekend with warmer by the fourth of july. things are calm around the bay but we've had a couple of spots because of earlier crashes. we have the volume building and the 280 jamming up around the off ramp there. a bigger concern is the dramatic it crash or at least that's the initial report northbound 680. reports of a car that spun around a couple of times. no lanes reported block but the chp is not on the scene. thank you very much. that's what's happening today in the bay. we continue to follow breaking
