garcia-cannon. before the fireworks happen, a lot of folks have barbecues and pool parties. the weather okay for that? >> you couldn't ask for anything better! we'll see the sunshine and warm weather but not too hot. the coastal areas will be cool but you'll get a little bit of sunshine throughout the day. not as much, but this is where we start. mid to upper 50s are nwith 50s to 76. the south bay you see the sun starting rise there. it will be a sunny and warm afternoon. up to 85 degrees. we'll talk about to expect as we go into tonight and over the rest of the week. that's coming up in a few minutes. and back to you. new this morning firefighters were kept very busy overnight in the east bay fighting a string of small grass fires that eventually merged into one big fire. crews were called a little bit after midnight to an area in

martinez. still no word about how many acres were burned. or whether fireworks could be at the root of the problem. firework dangers are high this time of year. they are on edge. >> specifically over illegal fireworks. bob redell is joining us live. they've been cracking down on illegal fireworks. >> reporter: good morning. you can see by the sign hanging out fire station one all fireworks are illegal here in the city limits. in an effort to try to crack down, the city recently enacted new laws and stiffer fines to stop people from setting off fireworks here in the south bay. the main concern over safety and the threat of fire. this was the scene last night up north in brentwood. firefighters suspect this fire in the not far from the sunset

athletics complex was fireworks related. it started as a grass fire that spread to palettes. back here, the city has more new laws. because of new laws code enforcers and park rangers can cite offend eer eroffenders. the fine is similar to a parking ticket. >> i can only hope it's going to deter people. i ask people not concentrate on what the law says and concentrate on what is safe. >> reporter: the fines for illegal fireworks in san jose are up. reporting live in san jose bob redell "today in the bay." >> thank you. the weather a concern for the biggest fireworks show in the bay area. where is this?

san francisco! will the fog block out the fireworks extravaganza? crews set up the massive display that will last more than 20 minutes tonight. and a new feature that lets people enjoy the show's music even if they're not close enough to hear it at the pier. >> the audience, no matter where they are, if they're not in the water front, they can download the app and get the sound track on their phone. kind of cool and high-tech. the app is called pyro spectaculars. it's free for android and iphone devices. fireworks will be launched near fog put a damper on the fireworks show in richmond. not enough for families celebrating the holiday. >> reporter: in richmond the 3rd of july was cause to celebrate as fireworks lit up the sky. dana webb came with her grandsons and wasn't bothered by the fog. >> just a little bit of fog but they're still gorgeous.

who is missing in monterrey bay. first responders were looking for a person that went for the water near watsonville yesterday and never came back out. the coast guard was called out for the search. a chp helicopters helped out as well as santa cruz firefighters, paramedics, and life guards. here is a look where palm beach state park is located. right between santa cruz and monterrey. an armed man who barricaded himself inside a house in gill roy is on the run. police were responding to a call of domestic violence yesterday when 41-year-old trinidad zip ree pa refused to come out of the home because he reportedly had a firearm inside the home with him. neighborhoods were either evacuated or told to shelter in place. the street was blocked off as well for some time. ultimately he fled out the back of the house prompting a search. sheriffs deputies came up empty. they found a gun in the house but trinidad remains at age.

the domestic violence victim was able to get out safely. oakland police are looking for a suspect they say raped and kidnapped a person. police say it happened yesterday morning on eighth avenue not far from 880 and bill patterson park. investigators know who the suspect is but they have not made any arrests yet. they say the victim refused any kind of medical treatment. a bizarre incident in reno left a man dead and a lot of people rattled. police say a driver there tried to drive his car into a crowd. it started yesterday afternoon when police tried to stop the driver of the minivan near a downtown festivity. he kept going and tried to get past a barricade. that's when he allegedly swerved toward the officer causing the officer to shoot the man as he crashed into a vendor. the suspect died later at the hospital but no one else was

hurt. >> sylvia said her granddaughters came into her house and saw the burglar. they sprang into the action and shooting the video of the culprit. >> when they came back they found the guy here in the hallway. so my other granddaughter took a video of him while he was running and the other one was running after the guy. >> they confronted him directly. during a scuffle the suspect dropped a bag full of stuff. when she got home and started to assess what was missing she discovered all her jewelry was gone. she estimates the value at $20,000. what hurts most is a lot of it was given to her by her husband who passed away last year. the family is urging people to share the video in the hopes

we are following a developi story out of iraq. ==take vo== the death tollow stands a200 .. from the dy we're following a developing story out of iraq and the death toll from a bombing there stands at 200 after a deadly truck bomb attack in a busy baghdad shopping district. a truck blew an entire block of shops and restaurants to rubble. yesterday's attack targeted a up-scale restaurant in the city. isis is claiming responsibility. >> they will continue launching the offensive strikes while defending as best they can their remaining territory and their two cities mosul and rock can. >> authorities say many of the dead are women and children.

the white house, of course, condemned the attack and vowing to step up the fight against isis. politics now hillary clinton trying to put the e-mail controversy behind her with three weeks to go before the democratic convention. clinton answered questions from the fbi over the weekend. >> nbc news reports donald trump is having some action this weekend getting closer to a vice presidential choice. >> reporter: hillary clinton wants to focus on narrowing down a vice presidential pick and attacking the republicans.

and new york last night an illuminating reminder of the extraordinary life of eli elie weasel lit up in the colors of t . family and friends gathered to remember him. he passed away saturday at the age of 87. many people who never met him showed up outside the synagogue to play their respects. in his classic memoir "night" he shared his story of surviving nazi concentration camps. people spoke about his message to the world yesterday. >> he carried the message universally. he carried the message to the jewish tragedy to the world. he took it away beyond. >> he was freed from a concentration camp in 1945 only after his mother, father, and sister had been killed there. new details in last month's deadly alligator attack at

disney world. according to a new report, not one but two alligators were involved in the deadly snatching of the toddler. the father of lane graves, the boy killed in the attack told firefighters a second alligator attacked him as he was trying to reach his son. e-mails shows that lane's father initially refused to leave the area as rescuers combing the water. the boy's body was discovered the next day. toxic green algae virtually shut down a florida beach. signs posted along the beach in martin county warning people not to make any contact with the water. the beach is nearly empty as life guards test the water toxicity. nearby residents say they won't be getting in the surf until they're sure it's safe. sometimes we tell people not to get in the water but it doesn't look bad. this, i think, you know -- >> and i'm sure the smell is

spotted just south of santa cruz. you'll want to be mindful of all the hazards out at the beach today. be safe and enjoy yourself. and santa cruz in the mid 60s today and we'll see the temperatures quickly dropping into the 50s later on tonight. livermore we break it down we start out in the upper 50s at 11:00. up to 74 degrees. a nice, warm day into the mid 80s with a breezy wind coming in from the west. maybe southwesterly later on this evening. but we look at the forecast and all the gray shows the coverage of fog and the low clouds this morning. as we go through the day, the fog retreat back to the coastline and then starts to move back in later on tonight. so some of the inland fireworks shows may be your best bet for aly clear view. be mindful of that. you may have the low clouds as we go into tonight. a look at the microclimate. 70 in san mateo today.

before i hear the go. tesla appears to be falling behind on the car shipments. the palo alto-based company announced it delivered 14,000 vehicles during the second quarter. that's fewer autos than the previous quarter. the announcement that tesla won't likely meet the 80,000 car goals. tesla blames the decline on production changes and an increase in custom order vehicles. a bay area stand alone in many ways. among them the high salaries of local ceos. nine of the ten highest paid ceos in california are here in the bay area. here are the staggering numbers released by the l.a. times. the highest paid ceo work for oracle mark hurd. his co-ceo makes about 100 less. third is robert iger with almost $45 million. and marissa meyer is the third

>> everyone wants to know if you'll be able to see the fireworks today. that will be a huge issue. because we've had some cooler air moving in the marine layer definitely a lot thicker and giving us low clouds and fog. as we start out this morning, you can see the clouds over the north bay looking for san francisco. over san francisco now and the south bay is all clear. we start at 57 degrees with highs today up to 85. 76 in the north bay as well as the east bay and san francisco up to 63 degrees. it will be breezy there and the clouds rolling right back in tonight. i'll talk more about that and a few fireworks shows going on around the bay area in a few minutes. back to you. >> thank you very much. new this morning firefighters were kept busy overnight in the east bay fighting a string of grass fires that eventually merged into one. crews were called to an area in martinez. no word how many acres were burned or whether fireworks could be at the root of the cause.

>> this time of year fire danger is generally high for the fourth of july. police and fire crews around the bay area -- >> illegal fireworks one of the threats to start the fire. as today in the bay reports, plenty of people have been lightening them all over the bay area. the city has been trying to crack down on illegal fireworks. >> reporter: good morning. the sign says here outside fire station one fireworks are illegal here in san jose, and this year this fourth of july the city has new laws and stiffer fines to try to help deter people from setting off fireworks in the south bay. last year only police could issue the criminal citations. now because of new laws passed in april, code enforcers and park rangers can also cite offenders here in san jose. the citations now considered a city administrative fine. similar to a parking ticket. the fine for the first time

violators $500, second $700, third time $1,000. >> frustrating. not just me but every firefighter in the county. we know how dangerous they are. >> reporter: this was a scene in brentwood. firefighters suspect the fire was fireworks related. it started as a grass fire near a drainage canal and spread to a roofing company. fortunately no one was hurt. like, amputated after a bizarre explosion in new york central park. >> police say the victim a 19-year-old connor walden of fairf fairfax, virginia was jumping off rocks when he landed on a device that exploded. his family confirms his leg had to be amputated below the knee. >> it was a life-changing injury for the poor young man. hopefully he's in his character and he'll come through this. >> the police say the blast was as a result of some sort of experiment with fireworks or perhaps a homemade explosive. firefighters say that slightly milder conditions are helping them to hold the line on several large wild fires burn across the state. good news in kern county where the deer fire is listed at 50% contained. the fire burned close to 2,000

acres just since friday. authorities have now listed evacuation orders there meantime in sbernardino a fast-moving grass fire in the county is fully contained. before it happened, the fire destroyed fours and terrified one resident who lost his dog. >> the flames were beating up against the glass. the dog was freaking out. we ran out. the dog ran out and we can't find her. >> firefighters believe that fire in bernardino may have been intentionally set. closer to home the trail head fire burning in eldorado counties is now 20% contained. no structures have been damaged but some 5,000 acres have been burned. firefighters quickly put out a grass fire threatening structures there. they tweeted out these photographs of crews mopping up yesterday. the flames broke out on a hillside. nobody was hurt and no damage. developing in saudi arabia this morning the u.s. state

department is investigating a suicide bombing early this morning outside the u.s. consulate. a spokesman said the attacker detonated his device when security guards approached but only the attacker was killed. the guard suffered minor injuries. the attack may have been timed to coincide with fourth of july celebrations. students and teachers at uc berkeley will hold a vigil for the you went student killed in the bakery terror attack in beng will desh. she attended high school in the city where she died. the capital of dacca. she began her studies at corral in 2014 and was working as an intern this summer in bangladesh. tomorrow's vigil is scheduled for noon at cal. 5:36 now on the monday. no arrests yet in the stabbing of a teen in mountain view. we broke the story on saturday night. police say the attack happened

just before 10:00 p.m. in mountain view. by time police got to the scene, there were no suspects in the area. the victim of that stabbing is in the hospital. we don't have an update, at this point, on his condition. teenages lead police on a high speed chase early yesterday morning. chp said it started shortly before 4:00 when an officer tried to pull over the driver of a white ford for speeding and racing another car. the driver took off down 880 in hayward going as fast as 1230 miles per hour. the chase lasted about ten minutes and ended near a crash with the westbound 84 off ramp and all fourteens were taken into custody. officers found a firearm in the car. good news 0 no one was hurt. the san francisco chronicle made a bold editorial move. >> a scathing editorial about homelessness on the front page yesterday. the paper called san francisco's homeless epidemic a civic disgrace and called on city

==take vo== iraq. eeath tollow stands at 0 we're following a developing story out of iraq this morning. the death toll now stands at 200 people from the deadly truck bomb attack in a busy baghdad shopping district. a truck blew an entire block of shops and restaurants to rubble. yesterday's attack targeted an upscale neighborhood. isis is claiming responsibility. it happened during ramadan. >> they will continue launching the offensive strikes while defending as best they can their remaining territory and their two cities mosul and rock can.

>> authorities say many of the dead are women and children. the white house, of course, condemned the attack and vowing to step up the fight against isis. a young man had part of his leg amputated after part of an explosion in central park. >> 19-year-old connor bolten from fairfax, virginia was jumping off rocks when he landed on a device that exploded. the blast could be heard for blocks. >> it was a life-changing injury for the poor young man. hopefully he's in his character and he'll come through this. >> the police say the blast was as a result of some sort of experiment with fireworks or perhaps a homemade explosive. in new york last night an illuminating reminder of the life of elie wiesel.
