calm and cool, kari. >> let's do that because we've had some hot weather last week. it's going to turn hot again next week. now we're in between and taking in some nice, cool air. right now as we get a live look at our microclimates. 59 and foggy in san francisco. while mostly clear in the south bay at 57 degrees there. highs today reaching the low 60s near the coast and upper 70s for the inland areas. and this weather cooler than average. we'll talk about how long it stays there as we go into the next few minutes. that's coming up. mike has a look at what's clear for san jose. >> that's right. better news for san jose. the crashes have cleared from 101. early morning we had a couple, they've been sticking around 880. they have all cleared up. a little recovery for speeds. we'll see more slowing in 20 minutes. we'll zoom in, looking at hayward but zoom past that because that's not a surprise. build south of 92. over here the recovery. that's what we wanted to though. walnut kracreek. the volume starting to build out

of concord. standard pattern there as well as bay bridge. lighter than standard flow of traffic for this standard pattern like the bay bridge toll plaza. metering lightses are on. backup filling in the toll plaza. mist and fog around the span. maybe some mist on your wishiel. no problems reported. guys, back to you. update now to breaking news. protesting going on in front of the governor's mansion in minneapolis, minnesota. after police shot and killed a man during a routine traffic stop. a child an man's girlfriend both inside the car at the time and his girlfriend apparently broadcast the aftermath on facebook live. "today in the bay's" bob redell joins us now. bob, the video is graphic. it's hard to watch. i think you can hear the officer crying in the video. what did you think? >> it sounded like he was definitely upset and he will be able to listen for that when we play that snippet for you in a moment. a warning for you at home. this video is disturbing.

it was shot on a cellphone and streamed live by the girlfriend of the man who was shot and killed by police during a traffic stop for a broken taillight in a small town outside st. paul, minnesota. >> we got pulled over for a busted taillight in the back. and the police just -- he's covered. he killed my friend. he's licensed. he's care -- licensed to carry. he was trying to get out his id and his wallet out of his pocket and he let the officer know that he was -- he had a firearm and he was reaching for his wallet. and the officer just shot him in his arm. we're waiting for a -- >> keep your hands where they are. >> i will, sir. no worries. >> he just shot his arm off. we got pulled over. >> i told him not to reach for it. i told him to get his hand off. >> you told him to get his id, sir. his driver's license. oh, my god, please don't tell me he's dead.

>> the man was pronounced dead at a local hospital. he was a 32-year-old cafeteria supervisor, a local school in minnesota. that video has already been viewed more than a million times and has prompted a small protest outside the governor's mansion in minnesota. the st. anthony police department has put their officer on administrative leave which is standard protocol. the police chief tells us this is their first officer involved shooting in more than 30 years. >> it's not something that occurs, you know, in this area often. call the bca in here to investigate so we can learn what happened and be transparent. >> the bca is the minnesota bureau of criminal apprehension which, again, will be investigating this officer involved shoot that left one man dead. reporting live in the newsroom, r

bob redell, "today in the bay.." that is not the only instance of police force. more protests over another police shooting. this one in baton rouge, louisiana, where a black man named alton sterling was shot and killed by two white baton rouge police officers. cellphone video captured the altercation outside a convenience store where sterling had been selling cds. police were responding to a call about a man threatening someone with a gun. the video appears to show two officers on top of sterling. they had detain i'ded him. one officer indicates sterling had a gun which sterling had recently started carrying for protection. the other officer shot sterling several times in the chest. back here in the bay area police officers had a different outcome. they used new use of force training to bring an hour's long stand off to an end without using lethal force. police released these photos of the gun and the am knew in addition that police say they confiscated. it played out on jones street

near 7th and market near the tenderloin. the suspect refused to drop a gun that he had and it was threatening to harm himself and that he wanted police to take his life. acting chief tony chaplin says time was the officers most critical tool. the longer the officers drew out the situation the better the ending, he says. >> the officers did what we've been training to do for the last 18 months. they created a safety pocket, backed up, created time. elongated this whole situation to give us a little time to get the people to the scene that could de-escalate this thing. >> officers eventually took the man down with the use of bean bags and flash bangs. the suspect has not been identified but we know he was eventually taken to the hospital with nonlife-threatening injuries as a result of those bean bags. a south bay limo driver is accused of molesting a child in los galos. 61-year-old alley shikori of san jose was arrested for po lesing

a child under the age of 10. according to police, a family claims that that incident happened at their home nearly two weeks ago. shikori has been driving limos in the south bay for several years. investigators are asking anyone with information on this case or any other involving this suspect to come forward. right now police in palo alto are looking for a man who exposed himself to a 12-year-old girl. this happened yesterday afternoon on louis road on north carolina avenue. not far away from jordan middle school. the flasher was in a car, pulled up next to the girl. when the girl pulled out a cellphone to call for help the suspect took off. a new details now on this fire that we were reporting all morning long as breaking news yesterday, crews are still on scene there in emeryville after the flames guted a five-story apartment building with retail space that was under construction and almost complete. live look at the after math left behind this morning. you can see the smoke is still

coming up. the fire is still smoldering. more than 24 how weres later. it's a very different scene from yesterday but still dozens of people are without power because of the massive fire. hundreds of people who were evacuated. some cannot go back home because several to homes went up in flames. several cars just exploded. >> i saw the flames and it's like, twice taller than the building itself. kind of scary. >> we were halfway to getting all of our stuff in and apparently there's no elevators. that's great. at least we didn't burn down. >> she was just moving in from out of state. team of fire investigators are working to figure of it the cause of that six alarm fire but it is a very big space. at this point they're not ruling illegal fireworks nor arson as possible causes. seven san jose homes that were essentially functioning as greenhouses for growing pot have been busted. you're looking at pictures here from one of those on dubanski drive not far from the boulder

ridge golf course. in all police seized more than 1800 plants for the reported street value of $3.5 million. a couple who investigators say ran that operation were arrested as well as four other people. >> this is going to require a lot more follow-up investigation as to who the observers were of the properties, if there was anybody else involved. >> how did they find out about this? police say the landlord for one of the properties reported suspicious activity which led to that sweep. crews are going to be fogging for the west nile virus in san jose. crews are going to spray the area roughly centered around guadalupe parkway. this is the region that's going to be fogged tonight at 1 second quarter. santa clara county has been fogging several areas lately after mosquitos tested positive for the west nile virus. people in asleepy san francisco neighborhood apparently had restless moments last night. now we're just learning why. the area that we're talking

about is along ocean beach near daly city where the chronicle reports people heard booming noises of some kind. tweeted later it was planned detonations. they detonated materials seized earlier in the day. no word about where or why those explosives were confiscated. >> not what you want to hear when you're trying to relax. meteorologist kari hall, probably had their window open because it was a lovely evening. >> it was. it's nice and cool also at the inland areas where mostly clear skies. 54 degrees there. look at our highs today. 60s and 70s. oakland, 65 degrees. 77 in san jose. some upper 70s in livermore and morgan hill. 76 degrees. palo alto, more of the same while san francisco stays at 60 degrees today. into the next several days, expect our weather to stay like this and then it warms up.

verify that. this comes after the fatal crash of a tesla model s in florida. this was a model x, suv model. it went off the road and flipped. nobody seriously hurt. for those of you who have drif veb ven it, you know, the pennsylvania turnpike has no shoulder. tesla says it's not sure it was in automated mode. tesla says, as we do with all crash events, we immediately reached out to the customer to confirm they were okay and offer support but were unable to reach him. we have sense attempted to contact the customer three times by phone without success. that investigation continues. meanwhile, elon musk has been reacting angry to questions about why his company did not tell shareholders about that first deadly tesla crash sooner. tesla was in the midst of selling more stock. a secondary offering at the time. musk says the crash was immaterial to the stock's value. there are so many teslas on the road the state of california is apparently thinking about

changing the rules for other car dealers. california says a certain percentage of cars that a company sells must be zero emissions. if a car company falls below that requirement they can buy credits from a car company that has extra like tesla. tesla has extra because all of its cars are zero emissions cars. the bottom line here, guys, is there are so many teslas on the road in california, other california car companies sell in california don't have to work as hard to sell electric cars. tesla is happy they make money. car companies don't have to work as hard. the bottom line is they don't have to work as hard to get the electric car. it's like the rule worked too well. >> it's cap and trade. >> it's working so well it's not working the way california inten te intended it to. live look at oracle arena

where crews are starting to install a huge welcome banner for nba superstar kevin durant. in just a few hours the warrior will announce durant as the newest member of the warriors. he was the most sought after free agent. he spent nine seasons with the oklahoma city thunder. nearly sunk the warriors. but on monday he revealed he would be leaving okc for the bay area. warriors general manager bob myers and head coach steve kerr will welcome durant today at 1:00. you can watch it on nbcbayarea.com. we'll be sitting with popcorn, i think. >> yesterday i think it was showing him taking dawn kef vine durant's posters from the arena and now we have a big sign up there. wow. >> got to make us feel bad now for the okc. if you can't beat them, join them. we can't be beat with the weather.

>> it is going to be beautiful again today. feeling nice and cool. nice breeze. sunshine. and it will feel like you will want to head on to the beach and be on vacation almost. as we take a live look outside now at the golden gate bridge as the sun comes up this morning, still some low clouds there. we'll see that for a couple of more hours and then it clears out to give us a spectacular day. we're now in the mid to upper 50s as you head out the door. let's break it down for palo alto. as we go through the 8:00 hour we will be at 60 degrees. upper 60s by lunchtime. you will want to take that lunch outside and then during the evening commute, still the windows down and letting in that natural air conditioning we've been enjoying the past couple of days. we're in the upper 70s in the south bay. some upper 50s for half-moon bay. 74 at redwood city. and 60 degrees in san francisco. some 70s for the north bay as well as the tri-valley. 87 degrees in brentwood while oakland is at 55. this area of low pressure bringing some rain well to the north of us. for us it gives us a stronger

onshore flow and keeps our temperatures in the 60s and 70s for the most part into the next couple of days. there won't be any major changes. it's cooler on saturday afternoon before it heats up early next week. as we look at the next foouf days in san jose, the average high, 84 degrees, will be up to 78 degrees on saturday. but then it does warm up early next week once again into the mid 80s. as we focus in on the forecast for the weekend, looking at san francisco in the upper 50s on saturday. 64 on sunday. and some 70s and 80s for the inland areas. let's head over to mike now. should be seeing a little bit more busy on the roads now for commuters. >> should be? it is. there are more cars on the roadway but we're not seeing a lot of slowing. that's great news, all week we've seen that. folks have taken the week off. especially the way the thing goes scheduled on monday with a holiday. look at the south bay. debris reported. 85 south around homestead,

instance of lethal police force that has left a louisiana community reeling. >> in baton rouge peaceful protests in the wake of the shooting of alton sterling dead. sterling was killed outside a convenience store after police responded to a call about a man threatening someone with a gun. video of the altercation appears to show officers shooting sterling as he was already detained and held to the ground. the store's owner says sterling sold cds outside the store and police say sterling had a gun. the department of justice's civil rights division is investigating the shooting. back here home in the bay area a different ending to a tense hour's long standoff between san francisco police and a man arm we'd a gun. >> this went on for four hours. ended peacefully. and police say that new training likely saved that man's life. >> "today in the bay's" lili tan is live in san francisco. this was a dangerous situation for quite some time. we saw how things could be

different in other cities. lily, the police chief here crediting time as the most valuable element. >> yeah, it was. he says time was all part of the plan, drawing things out so that officers would take their time and so that the outcome was better. clearly it was but it was very tense for four hours. this standup starting yesterday. jones street near 7th and marketer in the tenderloin. he refused to drop the gun and police say he was threatening to harm himself and wanted police to take his life. but san francisco police diffused the situation by firing a bean bag at the man. he fell to the sidewalk and still refused to show officers his hands to prove he wasn't holding a gun. >> the sanctity of human live above all, we would have stayed out here until tomorrow if we had to. >> reporter: acting chief tony chaplin credits the train that started under former police

cheer chief a year and a half ago. he had a number of officer involved shootings that happened differently. now, mayor ed lee is praising the new de-escalation tactics issuing this statement. we are making critical investments to rebuild trust with our communities and are changing out how our police officers handle the conflicts on our city streets. now, that suspect who has not yet been identified is in the hospital with nonlife-threatening injuries due to those bean bag rounds and for psychiatric evaluation. live in san francisco, i'll lili tan, "today in the bay." a hit and run suspect is dead after a fiery crash in san francisco's sea cliff neighborhood yesterday. this is his suv after it burst into flames after slamming into that multimillion dollar house there. witnesses say the driver was speeding down 32nd avenue and slammed into the side of that mansion. >> construction workers are rushing towards the car on fire. and the guy inside the car still.

so up with of them tries to go near the car. i think it burns his hands and then he says, no, nothing to do. >> police say only the driver was in the car and he was killed in the crash. a part of the house also caught fire. you can see officers were able to rescue two dogs from inside the house but luckily no one was home at the time. kris, a home burglary suspect is behind bars after authorities say he led police on a high speed chase that quickly turned into a manhunt in freet month. it started yesterday afternoon when police spotted the suspect in a car in nearby hayward. officers tried to pull the suspect over and say he rammed their cruiser and then sped off. at one point swerving around people on the streets. the suspect later got out of his car and evaded officers on foot before he was arrested in a creek. much to the relief of neighbors. >> i realize there's two dead ends and then bailed out and then started to fence hopping and got back in the creek area. >> i think he got stuck down in this creek because the cops

started circling around from the cemetery. >> authorities say it took several hours to track down that 20-year-old suspect and he is facing multiple, cha including assault with a deadly weapon. some san francisco lawmakers want the city to collect data on lgbtq people and they say that information will actually help them to serve the community better. the ordinance would refire city departments and contractors providing health care and social services to collect sexual orientation and gender identity data of the clients they serve. supervisors scott wiener running for state senate came up with that ordinance. a supervisor's committee will hold a hearing on that legislation this morning. before we go to rio, the road leads to san jose. women's olympic gymnastics trials begins tomorrow and it's all going to happen at s.a.p. center. the excitement is building there. the ice is gone out of the shark tank and instead there are balance beams, uneven bars, what

not. among the athletes to compete tomorrow, simone biles and gabby douglas. they are expected to make the u.s. olympic team and they are expected to medal in rio. two stars though are important role models for little girls like this one in the bay area who are aspiring to be just as good as they are. >> they inspire me so much because they look like me and they are like the best gymnasts, in my opinion, and they're just so awesome. >> here's the hope that some day she will be where her idols are heading to the olympics. but for now she's going to watch the greatest olympic gymnastics competitors battle it out tomorrow night and sunday night at s.a.p. center. it's so cool when we get to see the little kids rooting for their heros. >> she's like 5 or 6, a child property ji. sporting events going on all over the place. the south bay today becomes the

epicenter of women's golf with the start of the u.s. women's open but a tournament next month is sharing the spotlight the women have never played before? >> the last time golf was a sport in the olympics was back in 1904. and back then only men took part. so it wasn't even the women back then. everything changes next month with golf swings back into the olympics. the wrorld's best are playing this week at san martin. for some, their thoughts are almost 6,000 miles away. >> growing up i couldn't say that i'd wanted to be an olympian, so now that i can it's a dream come true. to be in rio would be an honor. >> each is among the top 15 in the world all of whom get in auchl ical automatically. we are 29 days away from the start of the summer olympics. jessica aguirre is packing her bags. she can bring us live reports from the games every day.

california but the last time this state voted for a republican presidential candidate was back in 1988 and that was for george h.w. bush. how does a trump/gingrich ticket sound? they hit the campaign trail together in cincinnati. donald trump didn't get specific but did say newt gingrich would play a role in his administration. gingrich is believed to be on his list of possible running mates. evidence that more motorists may be unknowingly clogging their car's engines by using cheap gas. aaa says it's boils down to the added detergents in gasoline. the problem is the cheaper gas has less engine cleaning detergents more than a gear head or grease monkey can tell you it can leave more deposit on on your intake valves. lesser gasolines up to 20 times the deposit which also reduce the car's gas miles.

san francisco is trying to cut connection with that biotech bad boy martin, you may recall he came under fire after he raised the price of an anti-parasitic drug by 5,000 percent, bought the sale of san francisco based kalo-bios and then lost after being indicted by the grand jury in a different matter. the company said it restricted his ability to do anything with the company's stock he owns. he will not be able to vote his opinion in shareholder votes as well. and finally, it's been a rough couple of weeks for elon musk. first he proposed tesla buy solar city. investors hated that idea. manufacturing numbers came up short. this morning he's in a war of words with fortune magazine questioning his judgment for not telling shareholders about the deadly florida crash sooner. this morning the national highway traffic administration says it's going to investigate a second crash. this one in pennsylvania. not clear it was an automated driving mode at this time but it

degrees. this area of low pressure well to the north of us causing rain up around seattle and portland. for us, it stays dry. but the wind circulating around that area of low pressure brings in some cooler air from the ocean and keeps our highs in the 60s and 70s. by the weekend we'll get our boost of the onshore flow giving us the coolest temperatures of the week. some 50s right along the immediate coastline. so we will still have the morning clouds and fog in san francisco. and our average high there, 69 degrees will only be up to 59. that will be the high temperature on saturday. but then it does start to warm up as we go into early next week. we'll also see more of the same for the valleys. so as we get a look now at the weekend forecast, east bay will be in the mid 70s and low 80s for the tri-valley as well as the north bay and south bay and the peninsula reaching up to 75 degrees on sunday. now let's head over to mike going to show you where the commute is now starting to kick? >> kari, first thing is job,

yes. today we haven't had to show you where the commute was kicking in yet because it hasn't done that. the south bay, just starting to see the build now. seeing a little slowing northbound direction. also over here toward hayward. also westbound across the san mateo bridge. first we'll address hayward. north off of 238, just now in the last five minutes seeing the sensors change to speeds in the 50s at their worst. that's an easy drive. the tri-valley, no problems for 680 through sonul. and shows your typical slowing. that's the pattern early in the commute. let's goat over here. san mateo bridge, live look shows you across that span. we are seeing the westbound build. we saw a lot of slowing for the last ten minutes. things are starting to ease up. that means more traffic to 101 and 912. slowing through san mateo coming up in 10 to 15 minutes. back to you. educational landmark for many and for others just a crooked sidewalk. for gee ologists, it's iconic. >> it was iconic. this is what the corner of rose
