six-hour-long standoff in the north bay behind bars this morning. dramatic ending to this tense and dangerous situation right now on "today in the bay." >> first, good morning. thanks for joining us. i'm laura garcia-cannon. >> i'm sam brock. we are keeping things drama free this morning. >> try. >> the only drama is how hot is it going to get later today. >> it is going to be a hot day for the inland areas. get ready for that. make sure you drink lots of water and try to stay out of the sun when you can. it is now 52 degrees in the north bay. 59 in the east bay. the south bay and looking at a lot of sunshine. but it stays nice and comfortable in san francisco. 68 degrees compared to the low 90s in the north bay. we'll talk more about all of that and how hot it gets this week. heading over to mike now. he's focused on your drive through silicon valley. >> i've seen unusual patterns. we're looking over and the maps shows a nice smooth drive. we're looking at the northbound route for 101.

the earlier crash at oakland road was a concern but that cleared off the bay shore freeway and now we have your normal commute for summertime wednesday that is. southbound 880. look, we see a little slowing coming in through frefremont. just a few minutes ago did show a good volume of traffic. that was that same block of traffic through milpitas. 237. i'll track that. i shouldn't say problems. not to alarm. just should see congestion early and then maybe clearing. back to you. we're also tracking breaking news. we are just learning san jose police are investigating the 267th homicide of the year. this morning officers responded to the area of ocala avenue near south king road. they found a man suffering from injuries. police won't say how that victim was hurt but a person of interest has been detained and is being questioned. at this time last year, san jose only had 11 homicides. >> increase of 130%.

6:01. more breaking news. fire crews still at the scene of an overnight fire that tore through an east bay warehouse. >> it happened on research drive near the corner of vasco road and eastbound in livermore. "today in the bay's" bob redell is live at the scene this morning. any word on how this fire started, bob? >> not yet. good morning to you, laura and sam. livermore fire department doesn't know yet whether or not this fire that dput gutted mill air conditioning and heating is suspicio suspicious. this light industrial area is unpopulated at that time of hour. the fire investigator is expected out here within the next couple of hours or so. the fire started around midnight. anyone with windows open here in the livermore valley could hear the sirens blaring as police and fire rolled out a heavy response to a two-alarm fire. the deputy fire chief says the build was involved when the crews arrived.

first firefighters did attempt an offensive attack. >> tried to go inside and put the fire out. but they weren't able to make any knock down or progress on the for and eventually had to withdraw and move to a defensive tactic where you see the aerial ladders go up and spray water downward on the building. >> reporter: the fire gutted the inside. firefighters had it knocked down by around 1:00 this morning. took them about over an hour to put it out. one firefighter was treated at the scene but the department believes he might have been sick beforehand. fighting this fire just exacerbated his illness. back out here live you will see these two dumpsters that are scorch marks on those bins. fire department will be looking into whether or not the fire started in one of those bins and spread to the building or if it was the other way around. reporting live here in livermore, bob redell, "today in the bay." >> thanks for the update, bob. happening today, gun, handcuffs and now cameras. starting this morning police officers in the bay area's largest city will be equipped with body cams. officers with the san jose

police department will be issued the cameras this morning and they will spend several hours training with them in the field. last year the department field tested cameras for several months. they're now standard for officers on patrol and s.w.a.t. units. any videos for incidents involving officers such as shootings or in-custody deaths must be immediately be downloaded into the department's storage system. kris sanchez is at san jose police headquarters gathering information. she will join us at 6:30. difficult week in dallas continues. funerals will be held today for three of the five police officers shot and killed by a sniper during a protest last week in downtown dallas. dallas police senior corporal lorne ahrens, dallas police sergeant michael smith and rapid police officer brent thompson will be laid to rest. the two other officers will be buried later this week. yesterday, president obama and george w. bush led an emotional memorial for those five

officers. the men were also honored at a large public memorial attended i be president obama yesterday. it marks the 11th time the president has had to eulogize the victims of a mass shooting. just a few weeks ago he did so in orlando. >> but your work and the work of police officers across the country is like no other. for the moment you put on that uniform you have answered a call that at any moment, even in the briefest interaction, may put your life in harm's way. >> former president george w. bush, a dallas resident, also spoke at the memorial yesterday. presidents obama and bush also met privately with the families of the slain officers. two suspected armored car

robbers are behind bar this morning after a 5 1/2 hour manhunt through two counties that ended when a squad koran over one suspect. now on the right side of your screen there you can see a second suspect tracked down in a mobile home park. it all started yesterday when a gunman shot an armored guard. he and his accomplice took off with an undisclosed amount of money setting off an intense search and that is where an officer spotted the suspect's car. one suspect fired at the officer who responded by ramming his car into the suspect's vehicle. one of the suspects was injured and arrested. the second suspect made a run for it ending up in that nearby mobile home park. >> the officer that actually took the first suspect in custody confirmed the id of the second suspect that it was, in fact, the gentleman that ran from us earlier today. >> they seem to be all happy that they were caught. but one of the sheriff's said we caught the bad guys. >> this morning there's no word on the condition of the guard

who was shot in windsor but we do know he was alert when he was transported to the hospital. a 57-year-old vallejo woman is still missing and we've learned that one of the four suspects in her kidnapping for ransom case used to date the missing woman's daughter. investigators say the four people kidnapped elvira babb two weeks ago and demanded $60,000 in ransom. the suspects are all now being held on a million dollars bail. investigators say that none are talking about what happened. yesterday her son dliched a powerful message to his mom. >> if you can hear me i want you to fight and be strong because we are going to find you soon. >> a friend of the family tells us that one of the suspects is not only the former boyfriend of babb's daughter but at one point the couple lived with babb. changing topics now at 6:07. mosquitos keep testing positive for the west nile virus in the south bay so more fogging is going to take place tonight down in this hear outlined on that

viewers go to look at the bay and see there's nothing really unusual about the pattern of traffic except for it's lighter because it's the summertime. a smooth flow there but, observati oakland, chp doesn't have an incident for oakland but the live camera at the oakland coliseum, traveling northbound with those flashing lights. looked like it was going to stop around this area but then it got back up to speed again. it may have been called off. the flashing lights continued past hyde street. the bay bridge toll plaza is looking like a nice easy drive. it's the backup you expect to see. the fastrak lanes are showing up there. i have a note for maybe some folks bringing kids to summer camp. that's coming up. next up, next effort for one of the south bay's most controversial new developments. a run-in with the robot. temporary changes the stanford shopping mall is making after a 300 pound security robot rolled

next month the town council of los gatos is expected to take the final vote on a development known as north 40. last night the community had the chance to voice concern or support for this project. phase i of the development calls for more than 300 housing units along with retail shops. so some mixed use development there. and some neighbors are worried it's going to cause major traffic problems. that proposed development would be on 44 acres of empty orchard space right by highways 85 and 17. only in silicon valley a security robot had a run-in with a toddler. quite literally. now the robotic company and toddler's mom are responding. it happened last thursday at stanford shopping center. 15-month-old harwin teng was with his family walking with his mother when he bumped into the robot, fell down and then that 300-pound robot just ran over his foot. paramedics checked on the toddler. his foot was swollen and bruised

but not broken. >> and the robot did not stop at all. and just keep on moving forward. and it ran over my son's, i believe, right foot. and at that moment i start screaming. >> we have machines operating all over the state of california. we've operated for over 35,000 hours with zero incident. so this is a horrific accident and we believe the technology and the machines are incredibly safe and we're going to continue to do our best to ensure that they are. >> "knightscope, the when that makes the pro bot is investigating what may have gone wrong. the shopping center will shut off the robots until that investigation is finished. the toddler is doing okay now. huge news, mountain view this morning. google will apparently build that space age dome headquarters after all. >> scott mcgrew, liftoff but it's entirely unexpected. >> absolutely startling news, if you're waking up in mountain view this morning. google had largely torn up the plans for crazy domed headquarters in mountain view

after the city said google could not go forward. mountain view, the city, said link linkedin, not google would build the new campus. well, the silicon valley business journal says google made a deal with linkedin, google will take over the headquarters seen here. linkedin will take some of google's buildings. everybody is going to be happy. we're not sure how much money is changing hands. linkedin says it's not related to the purchase of the company by microsoft. it is hard to oversee how disneylandesque this headquarters are going to be. here you see the dome city. that's just the start. the plans call for offices to be built in modules sort of like shipping containers and then giant sky crane robots will move those offices around like tetris pieces so that you have a different office location under the dome from time to time. this is a totally serious plan and apparently it's going to happen. other news. the dow gained 120 points tuesday. record highs.

s&p 500, our best measure of the market, also a new record. today is probably going to be flat. this was the market that roared. lots of life lately. the jobs report on friday. david cameron just left 10 downing street. hess headed to buckingham palace to officially resign as prime minister. the joke i really like, he says he's not going to be new host of k "top gear." investors liked cameron but instability when he said he was going to step down but we weren't sure who was going to replace him. now we know, theresa may, she will meet with the queen shortly and become the next official prime minister of england. markets like stability. >> theresa may said she's going to go through with brexit anyway. >> no doubt. >> but that's not spooking the markets. >> no, i think it's that we now know who the leader of a nuclear power is going to be. >> right. >> as important. >> to offer that stability. all right. interesting there. lots of activity there's in

we're getting a check of traffic and weather. kari hall joining us right now. comfortably warm today. >> in some spots. then it gets a little bit more incomfortable. >> sticky. >> yes. it's going to be really hot. and as we start out this morning live look at the golden gate bridge. some fog has rolled in there. you can't see the top of the span. the visibility is clear for the drivers rolling on through. we will some patchy fog near the coastline helping to create the wider range of the temperatures. as you head over towards pleasanton, one of the areas we watch for some hot weather as we go through the day. right now in concord, 59 degrees. also 59 in san jose and oakland. san francisco at 55 degrees. livermore starting out in the low 60s at 8:00 this morning. lunchtime already up to 84. you will be getting the lunch and coming back inside to the air conditioning into the low 90s as we go into the middle of the afternoon. and then into tonight mostly clear skies. 62 degrees at 2:00 in the morning.

so a look at all the microclimates today. 90s, upper 80s as well for the south bay. palo alto, 83 degrees. half-moon bay, 72 degrees. some upper 60s in the mission district today and some 80s and 90s for the north bay. fairfield, 93. antioch, 92 as well as 92 today in pleasanton. the wind will not help us out at all. in fact, this very light northerly wind at five miles an hour. so it will be just enough to keep the immediate coastline cool and then the inland areas once again very hot with some poor air quality, especially in the east bay. and the south bay. that's where we will have some high levels of some ozone. as high pressure continues to build it keeps it hot in the valleys for today, tomorrow, as well as friday. and then on saturday, feels better as this area of low pressure moves in. looking ahead to the weekend forecast, mid 60s coming down for the 90s on friday and the outitys by the end of the weekend for all of those inland areas. as we head over to mike now getting a view of what's

happening as you head out for this morning's commute. >> take a look and the big look at the bay shows you what you would expect for the speed patterns. we'll take you over to the peninsula. i'll talk about folks taking your kids to summer camp, if you're going to camp galileo you may have an issue this morning because i heard about a traffic incident on santa cruz avenue between elder and olive which is right there by that school. and sounds like a power pole down. pg&e might be on-site at 11:00 or noon this morning. and if that affects the power at the school then we may have an issue. be those kids, it's a science camp so they might be inventing a way to get around that problem as well. we'll let you know if we have anything else. no word on changes from camp galileo. on the east bay we have a typical pattern here. again starting to slow down through fremont and newark. look, the tri-valley not a problem but the crash reported near the dublin interchange waiting on chp. san mateo, easy drive westbound

>> "today in the bay's" kris sanchez is live from sjpd headquarters. this has been in the works for quite some time now. good morning. >> quite some time. and this is day one of issuing those body cameras to all police officers. this is the time that officers start doing their shift change. we noticed them walking in with their uniforms. no body camera on yet. that's going to change as of this afternoon when they start getting them issued. nbc bay area was invited to sit through some of the four-hour training the officers will get before they get their cameras. the city spent $4 million on nearly a thousand body-born cameras. these are the ones made by tazer corporation. the video won't be pubably but we can request it when need be through a public records request. here's what we know about the cameras and policies so far. the cameras have a 12-hour battery life and can record 70 hours of content. officers cannot disable the hoard wear n hardware nor the software.

they must be accident during use of force, confront trace or assaults. the officers can turn them off during private conversations with their families, during strip searches, tactical briefings, or contact with sources who want to remain anonymous or minors. any video of an officer involved shooting or death in custody must be uploaded immediately. nbc bay area investigative unit asked all bay area police departments with if they tracked when they are recording during use of force incident and they found most of them are, though oakland is not. we will link you to that report and the sjpd nine-page policy via twitter and facebook. now, the sjpd body camera training is at 2:30 this afternoon. we'll be there. in san jose, kris sanchez, "today in the bay." a race esst flier is ruffli feath feathers. someone dropped the fliers in the neighborhood. it mentioned the black lives

matter movement, then calls on neighbors to join the ku klux klan. it also lists a phone number and website. san francisco police addressed the matter at a scheduled meeting last night telling residents to report it if the pl fliers are seen. one posted it on social media to make people aware of th hateful message. >> saying that, oh, it's just free speech. no, you're trying to intentionally hurt and smear people who live in this neighborhood and people who live in the city which isn't okay. >> police say they have received no complaints about the fliers and that patrolling officers found no signs of them. distributing the fliers is not an illegal activity. the former stanford university swimmer convicted of sexual assault is going to be required to undergo drug and alcohol counseling. now, that decision comes after brock turner was caught lying about his high school habits. internal probation department communications obtained yesterday showing that turner is going to have to have the

counseling requirements added to his probation before september 2nd release from jail. pivotal day for san jose man accused of killing his parents. hasib and his 17-year-old brother omar are both charged with shooting and killing their parents in their evergreen home. police say they left disturbing messages at the crime scene and then went to an a,nime conventin in oakland. hasib has pleaded not guilty. we're getting some gruesome details about last week's death in palo alto this morning. the killer stabbed the female victim multiple times. 65-year-old jenny she was found dead in her home. investigators say they still don't have any suspects be you they think the killers most likely new her who was a local businesswoman and realtor. the san jose man charged with animal cruelty is back in court today and angry pet owners

fuming over this. our once again planning to rally outside. robert farmer pleaded not guilty to ten felony animal abuse charges. he's accused of kidnapping, sexually abusing and killing cats in san jose. police arrested him back in october after officers found him sleeping in his car with a dead cat. this came after farmer was caught on camera luring an orange tabby cat from its home. court documents lichked him to similar disturbing incidents in the past. now today a judge is expected to set a preliminary hearing date. another animal abuse case, this one stemming from the east bay. investigators in the tri-valley want to know who attacked this small cat. a homeowner in livermore found the animal on her front yard last thursday. 18-inch arrow with a metal tip was shot through the cat's cheek. >> the arrow went all of the way through the cat so it was sticking from one side to the other. cats have nine lives, so at least he's got eight more to go with. >> just hard to look at that

guy. a chip implanted in the animal indicates it was possibly adopted from the cat foundation in san ramon. police are hoping anyone with more information on the cat's owner will come forward. >> poor little thing. new warning to east bay homeowner, thieves are targeting homes for sale. concord police are telling homeowners to be on the lookout after thieves targeted several homes there and in neighboring clayton. all had posted for sale signs. the break-ins are happening when the properties are empty. in some cases day nay bors have been fooled in thinking the thieves were movers or contractors. >> sometimes they go in the house and case it and see what's valuable. when people are gone they will come back and hit the house. >> please don't know if the crimes are connected but advice anyone selling their home to remove all valuables and to let as many neighbors know as possible so they as well can be on the lookout. it is a sweetheart scam that's targeting women. this is what investigators are

saying about this south bay man joel wynn. facing multiple felly charges after police say he scammed at least seven women into giving him more than $200,000 in all. there may be more victims out there. the suspect befriended the victims online and would ask for an emergency loan once he gained their trust. then he would stop calling and quickly disappear with all of their money. >> no love there. 6:38. let's check the forecast right now. you might love it if you're inland and you love the heat. >> yes. and we will have a lot of that to go around. coastal areas nice and cool as we get a look at the outer sunset. you look that there are some clouds and temperatures in the 50s. as we look at today's highs, really going up. rarely at 68 degrees in the san francisco. it's been holding steady the past couple of days. you will notice the difference as you head farther inland. oakland today, 80. 95 in fairfield. 89 degrees in morgan hill.

center health which operates the 300 bed facility wants to close and merge the hospital with summit medical center in oakland. that drew a huge outcry from the community saying they would lose the only emergency room between richmond and oakland. the city's decision last night is not legally binding but allows lawmakers to work with center health to come up with another option. a new law impacting thousands of people in san francisco is now on hold. it could have meant serious fines for popular websites like airbnb and craigslist. it was a lou that would force home sharing websites to remove listings not register we'd the city. companies who don't comply could have faced fines for up to $1,000 a day. now san francisco lawmakers are considering tweaking that law to address airbnb's legal arguments. there is also a a new lawsuit on

golden gate bridge, elsewhere, all nice and sunny. a view of the mt. tamalpais. this is where we're starting. now at 9:degrees in oakland and oakland and san jose. and 53 in santa rosa. we will go through the morning with some comfortable temperatures. whatever you have to do, try to get it done before these temperatures start to make it into the 80s and even low 90s in spots. in san jose, by 3:00, we're up to 85 degrees. 78 by this evening. so maybe either early morning or late in the evening if you can. if you have to do some yard work or just spending extra time outdoors. we'll be in the low 90s for gilroy. mission district today, 68 degrees. 88 degrees in santa rosa. and some low 90s for fairfield, antioch, livermore. up to 91 degrees. the wednesday comes in like during the north and northwest at five or ten miles an hour.

that doesn't help our inland areas. only along the immediate coastline will you feel relief. east bay as well as the south bay will have high ozone levels. it's a "spare the air" alert day. urge you to take public transportation and try to walk or bike to work if you can. high pressure continues to keep it hot in the valleys for the next couple of days. this area of low pressure drops in from the north helps us cool off in time for the weekend as that fog returns. so quick look at the weekend forecast. expect the highs to be in the mid 60s for san francisco. and some low 90s for the south bay as well as the tri-valley and the north bay. coming down by sunday. heading over to mike now, still monitoring what's happening in the north bay with a crash. >> this is going to effect some folks coming into the area. not many but it's our commute. so one to watch. looking over toward the bay. see a smooth flow of traffic throughout silicon valley. san jose, seeing that build over the last half hour. you expect them to see more flowing over the next half hour

coming into the south bay and silicon valley. san mateo bridge. we talk about overnight road work but this morning things are moving well. i want to show you the bay bridge. easy drive. metering lights are on. no surprises here. berkeley shows slowing down for the east shore freeway. farther north. this is the issue. now most of our viewers wornlt be seeing this because it's coming in vacaville. fairfield toward the bridge, you're clear. west 80 still has that crash. monitor that minor injuries with that big rig accident blocking two lanes. now let's look at the peninsula and palo alto. showing slowing southbound down toward that lane shift. this is lower and more congested. this is south of university approaching embarcadero exit and clears up again heading down into mountain view. dublin because west of the at altamont pass, volume is slowing. once you reach over here the dublin interchange, smooth drive. there's the off-ramp. that is your commute with that lighter flow of traffic. what about this, mike.

part of the investigation will focus on these dumpsters. you can see the scorch marks on the dumpsters. they'll try to see the fire started in one of the bins and spread to the building or if it was the other way around. the fire started around midnight last night. when fire department arrived the business was all fully involved. firefighters tried to go inside but had to withdraw and go on the defensive, fight from the outside and dump water from above. the chief ended up calling for a second alarm. the fire investigator will be looking into whether or not someone set this fire intentionally. >> we're going to investigate it and see. right now we don't have any indication one way or the other. any time you have a fire in an unpopulated area at night, it raises the question. so we follow-up on the question. was we don't have any other information beyond that. >> the fire took out the roof of this business, gutted the inside. firefighters had it knocked down in about an hour. one firefighter was treated at the scene but the department believes he might have been sick beforehand fighting this just
