yesterday police said the suspect was killed at the scene and the governor called for calm during the recent state of violence. >> today has been a very tough day here in baton rouge and in louisiana and in our country. absolutely unspeakable heinous attack claimed the lives of two baton rouge police officers, one sheriffs deputies and injured three others, one of whom is absolutely fighting for his life. it is unjustified and unjustifiable. the violence and hatred has to stop. >> they believe he acted alone. federal agencies including the atf and marshals service are assisting with investigations as police departments react to the news. the nypd ordered all of its

officers to remain in groups of two. last night president obama addressed the tense climate in the country after this latest shocking incident. >> i said that killer would not be the last person who tries to make us turn on each other for will today's killer. it remains up to us to make sure that they fail. that decision is all of ours. the decision to make sure that our best tellers are flekted across america, not our worst. that's up to us. we have our divisions and they are not new. the shooting comes on the heels of the fatal attack on police in dallas and the dilling of alton sterling less than two weeks ago. we have more from baton rouge.

good morning. what can you tell us about the shooter and the investigation? >> reporter: good morning. baton rouge waking up to more shock and grief as we learn more about the three officers killed and two injured, two being treated in the hospital behind me. brad had served with the east baton rouge sheriffs department for more than two decades. he was in his look ki year and jackson was the frart of an infant son he had posted an emotional response saying in part, please don't let hate effect your heart. the city must an get better. any protesters, officers, friends and family, if you see me and you want a heg or want to say a prayer, i've got you.

short list to be trump's vice president and we'll here from rudy giuliani along with a number of other people. they open this afternoon for business. they have to adopt a platform. the rules for this convention which will include binding delegates to vote for the person who was the winner in their state. there is still a group that wants to try to overturn that. they just don't seem to have enough votes to do so. as you just heard a lot of security concerns outside but inside the clear focus here will be nominating donald trump. he will take that stage on thursday. >> thanks so much for that. a third american has been confirmed dead in thursday's terror attack in nice, france. nicholas leslie was in nice in a study abroad program.

three other students were among the injured. here is nbc with more on the man that carried out the attacks. >> reporter: two more arrests, french police now questioning six people. they released the killer's ex-wife without charge. they now say he rehearsed his rampage twice, cameras recorded him last tuesday and wednesday driving the same rented truck on the same road he took thursday night when he plowed into crowds of people. survivors including americans met still in shock. >> the terror of not knowing what was going to happen, the shock was just hell. it was something coming towards me and then the people were just lying there like rag dolls. it was going totally

intentionally high speed run nig on the people. >> reporter: of the people he hit on this rampage, 18 are still on life support. check out this dramatic video from china. a massive landslide comes crashing down into houses. it was caused by days of heavy rain. fortunately the homes were evacuated ahead of the landslide. we have your forecast now with bill. >> back home we had a little bit of flooding last night in illinois and indiana. it is a boundary between hot, humid air to the south. all eyes are on cleveland. thunderstorms this morning. they will try to clear it out as we go throughout the day. they could get an isolated shower or storm. throughout the afternoon or evening they will clear out. everyone will have a fantastic forecast the rest of this week.

after a stand off with police at a baltimore burger king. they spotted a man driving late sunday morning. when they attempted to pull him over he fled crashing into another driver. he then ran into a burger king hostage including a seven-year-old girl. the hostages were released unharmed and the suspect was arrested. two people rescued from a phoenix storm drain yesterday morning. they got stuck after searching for a dog. a bicyclist reported hearing screams for help. after an hour of search and rescue they immerged unharmed and without the dog. over 500 competitors participated in the rue biks cube event.
