>> it looks like it will be a great start to the week. we'll have slightly cooler temperatures. kind of like what we had yesterday. in some spots a couple of degrees warmer. as you start out this morning, this is what to expect. temperatures in the mid to upper 50s. 59 in the south bay with mostly clear skies. we have patchy fog. san francisco and in the north bay and along the coastline. 70 the high in the peninsula. 83 in the south and north bay up to 76 degrees. we'll talk about what to expect as we head through the week. that's coming up. heading to mike now. already a small crash in san francisco. >> just a small one, kari. looking over here the rest of the bay no pain. no injuries were associated with this one. southbound 101. in fact, it happened over an hour ago but chp has one cruiser on scene on the shoulder. live look across the bay off san

mateo bridge. no problems. back to you. developing news baton rouge, louisiana is in shock and mourning after these three officers are gunned down after what police are describing an ambush-style attack. montrell jackson, on the left. and matthew gerald new to the force, married with two children. and deputy brad garafola, a father of four on the right. three more officers were injured as one is in critical condition this morning. a city and the nation shaken by violence. as jay gray reports, there's fear, concern, and many questions this morning. [ sirens ] >> reporter: as the shots exploded sunday morning in baton rouge -- >> shots fired. officer down. officer down. got a city officer down. shots fired. >> reporter: three officers were killed.

montrell jackson, matthew gerald, and brad garafola all three husbands, fathers. three more officers were wounded during the attack. one still in critical condition. officials of louisiana called it an ambush carried out, police say, by a lone gunman gavin eugene on his birthday. >> it's unjustified. it's unjustifiable. the violence, the hatred has to stop. >> reporter: overnight we learned long had an extensive footprint online using the name cosmo setepenra. describing himself as a spiritual advisor. days after five police officers in dallas were assassinated bay sniper. after the attack he posted messages about, quote, victims fighting their oppressors. protests and tensions have been building in baton rouge for almost two weeks after the controversial shooting death by al ton sterling.

day in france when a madman drove a truck into a crowd. uc berkeley is coming together. >> reporter: yesterday's news that nick leslie was killed in the nice terrorist attack was devastating, obviously, for his family and friends here at cal. they had hoped that perhaps he was in a hospital in france being treated for his injuries and just wasn't able to alert people to his whereabouts. his father planned a trip to france but then came confirmation he was one of 84 people killed when a man drove a large truck through a large crowd of people celebrating bass ste bastille day. he was in france as a part of four-week study abroad program with 84 other students. he was described as talented and kind. he's the second cal student to

be murdered this month. >> the fact they have to get, like, caught up in the events that don't have anything to do with them is tragic. >> reporter: three berkeley students were injured in the nice attack. two have been released from the hospital. a third is being treated for a broken leg. you were talking about a vigil today for nicklessl lessllie it 4:00 behind me. today in the bay. >> thank you. there are new details about the investigation into the truck attack in nice. french police say the suspect was seen on closed circuit tv at least two separate times before the attack. he was in the same truck, apparently scouting out the future route in his van. authorities also took another man and woman in custody for questioning. both of them are acquaintances of the main suspect. it's monday. that means a week of weather to forecast. let's check in with kari. >> as you head out the door now

an east bay police officer and police dog are recovering this morning after a wild chase on saturday night. you're looking at video of the aftermath in walnut creek. two smashed cars, including the police cruiser. police say it started as a hit-and-run crash in which two people were injured. once police caught up with the suspect they say the suspect rammed the patrol car. police used taserers, a police dog, and a bean bag to catch the suspect. officers did eventually arrest him but not before he stabbed a canine several times. one officer was hurt and expected to recover. police identified the driver as 33-year-old gonzalez of walnut kree creek. he's in the hospital facing felony charges.

the name of the dog is shana. here is a picture of her at a fund-raiser last year. sh her and her handler do demonstrations. she's expected to make a full recovery. a historic ceremony in the east bay lead to a big surprise for the country's oldest park ranger. >> ranger betty -- [ applause ] >> standing o for betty. betty received another presidential coin yesterday during a ceremony. you'll remember that coin was stolen from the 94-year-old ranger last month. she was beaten up inside her home during a burglary and the coin was stolen. the president first awarded it. >> when i was introduced to the

morning. low clouds there. you can tell just over the bridge. we are going to have some clouds to start out the day. right now it's 57 degrees in san francisco. napa 55, and livermore at 58 degrees as you head out the door. as we break it down for san francisco today, for your day planner we'll be at 56 degrees at 8:00. still cloudy and then by lunchtime we start to see the sun coming out. it will be 60 degrees eventually making it into the lower 60s. some spots hitting 65. it will be a cool day at 57 at 8:00 this evening. a look at the microclimates in san jose up to 78 degrees. 85 in loss combat toes. the mission district reaching 60 today and napa will see the highs reaching 75 degrees. walnut creek at 82. also, 82 in pleasanton. we have the area of low pressure bringing a strong joan shore flow and a nice cool ocean breeze. but then high pressure across

the southwest gradually starts to build into the bay area. and that will cause our temperatures to warm up. so as we look at the seven-day forecast for the city, we will be at 65 degrees and seeing those temperatures going up near 70 degrees by the end of the weekend. for the inland areas expect the highs in the upper 70s for the next couple of days and look at the end of the forecast we'll see some of the highs reaching the 90s. so i'll talk about that coming up. mike, you have a crash in the east bay? >> yeah. like last time a smaller crash but i have to call it out. not a lot of slowing. no problems here. that's what you expect. we zoom up to the shore freeway. it's westbound 580 the richmond center. it's toll plaza. i can't see the status of it because look at the camera. that's westbound on 580. a smooth drive. we'll show you another bridge.
