in the north bay and 59 in the south bay. 80 in the north bay as well as the tri-valley, san francisco staying at 65 degrees. we'll talk about the warmup and it will definitely feel like july by sunday. let's head over to mike now. we'll show you what i found. also b.a.r.t. just updated, a 20-minute delay they're recovering from now at pittsburgh bay point. that's on the line for pittsburgh and bay point out of san francisco. no major problems for the south bay communitites. that came from the traffic partners. chp is where we're getting the word for that. what i did see is over by the toll plaza, the live camera, we have two vehicles over on the side here. west down. there's a crash in that area but again we'll wait for chp to give us the all clear. for now we'll send it back to

you. >> mike, thank you very much. an update now to breaking news. an armed carjacking leads to a chase and then a crash in the east bay. this story spanned two different cities and two different police departments. today in the way kris sanchez is joining us live where it all ended with the information you just got from police. kris, good morning >> it did start at another city. it was in the parking lot of a toys "r" us in hayward. that's where the chase started this morning with an armed robbery. we see skid marks on to east 14th street and then there was a crash into this pedestrian guardrail where the suspects took it out as they crashed and injured themselves. hayward police told news the last hour this all happened around 1:30 this morning when the suspects allegedly held a woman up at gunpoint in that parking lot of the toys "r" us store and then stole her car. police say the suspects

allegedly car jacked her, took off, officers started pursuing the vehicle. the driver went from hayward through san lorenzo into san leandro and police approached with guns drawn because they weren't sure where wl the three suspects were armed with the weapons that they used the alleged armed robbery. when the car crash into the pedestrian guard tail and the curb here, the suspects were injured. they were taken away in ambulanc ambulances. the windshield of the car was smashed. the car's tires were not facing the right direction and it was not drivable. we saw the car being towed away on a flatbed truck. the good news is all of this happened before the start of the morning commute. though this is a very busy thorough fare here, all of the impact was over before the drivers took to the road. in san leandro, kris sanchez today in the bay. >> 6:03 right now. moving on to decision between, day two of the convention starts in just a few hours.

instances included fragments that reflected her own thinking. hours before the speech mrs. trump told nbc's matt lauer that he wrote the speech with very little help. we'll have more reaction in a live report from cleveland at 6:30. after students on krl's campus fled what appeared to be gun fire, cal police are trying to figure out what fired a bb gun or a pellet gun on campus. this created panic and scary moments for students. police say that shots were fired at the international house which a program center and housing facility for international students. it happened at midnight on monday night. there's very visible damage including a window that was shattered. a student was struck and has a flesh wound. >> the faces of the people running toward us, they were very scared. >> police searched for the suspect and couldn't find him. f

investigators believe it was committed by two people. hundreds of friends, students and faculty gathered on campus to remember a fellow student killed in the terror attack in nice. >> if you had the chance to meet him for a second, just know how lucky you are. >> close friends of nicolas leslie described him as a great guy who worked hard. e was studying abroad in nice when he was killed during last week's terror attack. his friends say honoring leslie is the best way to deal with the tragedy. >> many of us hurt now than we ever have before. i hope instead it feels as if we've gained an extra limb to reach for more with, an extra mind to think twice with and best of all, an extra heart to seek our vengeance with. >> heart break in the north bay

community as well as, a tragedy in new york city hitting home here in the bay area after a young man from hillsburg was kpild by an alleged drunk driver. and that driver turned out to be an off-duty police officer. the victim, drew es coville was a senior at m.i.t. interning in new york. this is a picture from his facebook page. husband walking with friends when the rookie officer drove on to the sidewalk early saturday morning. the officer hit four people in total. the other three victims have serious injuries. the suspect was arrested facing a slew of charges including manslaughter. >> people angry over a deadly police shooting in san francisco last year will gather today to argue that the department is falling short on reform. officers shot and killed mario woods. saying he refused to drop a knife. woods' supporters say the chief's recent resignation is a good start but they want more change. they plan to air their concerns

at a news conference. two alameda county districts are expected in court today for a preliminary hearing. deputies paul weaver and lose santa maria face flown charges for beating a car thief suspect last november. you may remember the video that captured the beating. he led the deputies on a high speed chase. pet trof claims that he suffered a concussion with a mild brain injury. >> in the midst of several scandals, today they're thinking of forming an independent police commission, and it's expected to have more clout than the usual review board or auditor. this one will have the authority to fire the chief. the police officer's association is expected to oppose the plan. activists say it doesn't go far enough. if approved, it will go before

the voters in november. for fran and its plan waterfront arena for the warriors were it's looking like game on. the judge yesterday ruled that the plan can go forward. that arena is proposed along vacant land in mission bay mear the children's hospital. a judge yesterday shot down an effort by the mission bay alliance to block the project. opponents argued that the city cut corners in compiling its environmental impact report. >> what the court and the judge got out of it is somehow the notion that the environmental review was ramped through city hall, all political and not done adequately. that's really not the case. >> yesterday's ruling may not be the last word. 0 f 0 opponents have five day to decide if they want to appeal to a higher court. a look at the forecast this

morning. >> we start off with coastal clouds and fog. but you know when we start this way we'll have slightly cooler temperatures, cooler than average. it's a reheat of yesterday. by the weekend we'll have the highs reaching near 95 degrees. it is going to be hot. we'll talk about that coming up in less than ten minutes. now as we head over to mike, he's updating us on b.a.r.t. and hayward. >> two focuses. the one on the rails, b.a.r.t. recovering from a 20-minute delay out of the montgomery station. but again recovering, they've been doing that for 20 minutes. we should see some good improvements for the times on the rails. hayward is where we see any slowing to worry about. south bay clear and peninsula is clearer than that. the earlier crash at 92, chp says yes, it was nothing, no lanes blocked.

a group is vowing to replant two dozen trees in the south bay after vandals sawed them in half. happened sometime friday morning along marin ya in san jose. volunteers have posted signs asking for help finding those responsible. in all, 23 newly planted trees were chopped down. the trees were paid for by city and federal dollars. >> the sadness that somebody could do something somewhat premeditated and so mean. over 100 volunteers planted these trees. >> volunteers are trying to raise money to replant the trees. well covered california users should learn today what kind of rates they're going the pay in 2017 and some fear it could be a lot higher.

car crash into a truck. experts say that years of testing show that humans have a difficult time keeping their minds on boring tasks like monitoring automated systems. we need more excitement in our lives, i suppose >> i may have some excitement on the traffic front. >> hopefully not anything pad. first, kari, what have you got going? >> we start off with clouds across the bay area. it will be a nice day. we'll talk about a warmup as we go into the next couple of days. but now we see the low clouds over the garcia-cannon bridge as you head out. that's not affecting the drivers at the very top of the span but the clouds may lower within the next hour or so and then gradually clear out later on this morning. so looking outside we have more of the temperatures that are in the upper 50s and we will have some slow rise into the mid 60s along the coastline. looking now at the golden gate

we see the temperatures are in the upper 50s. so looking like a nice start to this day. as we see all of those bike riders now rolling across the bridge right now. 56 degrees u there, a high today expected of 65 degrees. and also in sunol we started out at 50 degrees. as we look at the day planner today in oakland, a lot of clouds to start, 58 degrees but quickly we'll into in the upper 60s. mo morgan hill up to 82, up to 63 degrees, 75 in napa while oakland is at 70 and 80 today in danville. not as much of a wide range in temperatures but there are changes as we go through the rest of the week as that area of low pressure starts to move inland, high pressure starts to nudge in and that will cause the heat to build in the coast into the 70s by the end of the week. but by saturday and sunday it

will be near 100 degrees inland. let's look at the seven-day forecast. you may not want to see it. but hey in san francisco it will be nice there, in the mid 70s by the end of the week. check out the valleys. up to 98 degrees on sunday. a lot of people heading to the beach trying to find somewhere to cool off or you may just be relaxing pool side. find your neighbor with a pool. let's head over to mike now. breaking news out of san francisco. yeah, we talked about the delays out of montgomery station, came in half an hour ago. in san francisco now, the same station, they're reporting that there is smoke reported coming out of one of the trains at the montgomery station on the b.a.r.t. level. that would correlate to the delay but this is a new report that came out. just as we were recovering from the 20-minute delays, we may possibly have a secondary issue and if there is smoke coming 0 it of the car, an inclosed area, concerned for the safety of the folks in the area.

we're going to follow this and we'll bring you the updates as it affects your day and your commute. meanwhile we are still recovering from that b.a.r.t. delay. that's the biggest issue for the traffic flow for the commute. bay bridge toll plaza, we expect to see that backup. hayward a typical slowdown past the san mateo bridge. there's the tri-valley, there's san jose. let's zoom in toward the san mateo bridge. the sensors are green, a live picture from the hayward side of the bridge shows you westbound really picking up the volume. whatever was going on between those two cars, looks like the issue has been resolved and the cars have cleared in toward that slower drive. and in the south bay north 101 and san jose we're seeing the start to build up. we had a break for 20 minutes but now we're starting to see this. we're following the issue, whatever the smoke was reported out of the montgomery station at the b.a.r.t. level. back to you. coming up next, nbc bay area

inallg wkin a follow-up now. b.a.r.t. is moving forward with installing working surveillance cameras on the trains. there were cameras before, but they were fake. now after testing out several different kinds of cameras, b.a.r.t. officials have decided on one of them. the board of directors has to authorize the purchase which will cost more than $100,000. the decision should come by septemb september. a side show suspect is off the streets after ticking off one too many drivers. the chp arrested a driver on sunday for doing these donuts on the bay bridge and stopping traffic. officers were able to get the driver and arrest him as he was getting off of the bridge. the mustang is now impounded.

officers say that a citizen's timely phone call enabled them to be in place as the suspect drove by. 6:25. nbc bay area responds to long lines at the airport this summer. >> consumer investigator said we've got to brace for crowds bigger than the holidays. >> some like to say christmas and thanksgiving are the busiest time for air travel but summer is hot were, especially now, late july. of the top 25 business jest travel days of last year eight were in july. and july 31st was the single busiest day of the year. we requested data from the airline's own trade group. last year 21 of the top 25 busiest air travel days were in the summer. what does this mean? you've got to plan around big crowds. bill in time for long lines at the counter and security. because you simply can't be late. forget expecting to take the next flight if you miss yours. the transportation department

the clouds and the fog near the coastline will also give us a nice sea breeze and keep the inland valleys cooler than average. and right now it's 51 degrees in the north bay and 56 degrees in san francisco, up to 65 degrees there today with some 80s for the south bay, north bay and the tri-valley. the peninsula up to 76 degrees. it will warm up as we go throughout the weekend. i'll talk more about that coming up. but mike is following the b.a.r.t. delay. >> good news as far as that goes. b.a.r.t. no longer reporting any delay out of the montgomery street station. the latest information we have from the system is there was smoke coming out of one of the cars related to the olympic difficulties. that was on b.a.r.t. level platt platform. so go toward that station and now your b.a.r.t. station should be okay. the driver is mfg well. we have a new crash south 680 right at 24. looks like that may be an issue

this isn't the only shooting that police are investigating. >> reporter: they believe whoever fired at the i house they also shot at the back of a man prior to this. what made this frightening for the students is initially they couldn't tell where wl this gun being drawn on them were real or a bb or pellet gun. it turns out it with us a bb or pellet gun. you can see where the yellow tape is. whoever was firing blew out the glass pane window. it has since been replaced. a few international students here for the summer for hanging outin front when they saw a man across the street draw what looked like a gun and start firing. the shooter fired between 6 and 15 shots shattering the window as i mentioned, leaving one student with a flesh wound by his eye. >> the faces of the people who were running towards us, they were like really scared. all of this stuff just happens in like 20 seconds or something, you start to panic. i thought i was fireworks or someone was playing. but then i looked and i saw a

guy by that tree over there, he had a gun and he had it with both hands. >> reporter: police are looking for two men who drove off in a white sedan. the officer tells us the suspects also shot a man in the back the bb gun channing before the international house. reporting live here, bob redell "today in the bay". at 6:37 right now today, another fallen dallas police officer is set to be laid to rest. a funeral service will be held for officer michael krol. he was one of five police officers funned down during a protest march in dal last last week. officer krol's poddy was flound to his hometown of redford township, michigan. new details are emerging about the gunman who ambushed baton rouge police officers on sunday morning. we're getting a glimpse of new

our va le surveillance videos. three officers died, three other were wounded. the suspect was eventually gunned down by police. the ambush of police officers in baton rouge came just days after a similar attack in dallas,texas that left five officers dead. now there's a heightened alert for tepts across the country. san jose police and the santa clara county sheriff's office have put new procedures into place to make officers feel safer. one of the biggest changes is the option to go out in two officer units if they choose. however there are drawbacks >> we're not going to have that many patrol cars out so the visibility portion of it, you know, would be a factor, i guess. >> leaders of both agencies tell us they're considering additional changes in the next few days. an east bay police department is under the microscope this morning after the contra cost that da's office revealed flaws in how the

department reports crimes. a new report finds the pittsburgh police department failed to note more than 100 crimes in 2014, instead classifying them as suspicious circumstances. ho of the submissions should have been reported to the fbi as a serious crime. overall the report concludes that the mistakes were not deliberate and recommended better training for personnel. time to check the forecast with kari hall. she's got a look at the microclimate. that's not a weather alert. it's pretty good weather. >> pretty nice weather. the only thing we're concerned about is a little visibility in spots. we're looking at now temperatures in the mid to upper 50s a as you head out the door. a light jacket will be needed. the rest of the day it's going to be a repeat of yesterday, morning clouds, morning fog that clears out and then a beautiful afternoon with comfortable temperatures. but then it does gradually warm through this week and by the weekend we're looking at the temperatures peaking near 95 degrees for the inland valleys.

we'll continue to watch those highs rising as we go into the next several days. now as we head over to mike, he's been saying that the tuesday commute has been kicking in. we're starting to see the volume increase, we're seeing slowing in the typical patterns around the bay. specifically over here where we've been watching the build toward the san mateo bridge. we'll zoo into the silicon valley and we seal see the general slowing trend kick in. there's 680 where the live camera is. we'll take a look there. you see the volume really starting to build. this is nothing unusual, especially on a tuesday. your silicon valley drive as slowed and it will continue. 6:40, coming up, it wasn't a mountain lion after all of that. the harmless pet that created quite a scare on the peninsula. >> reporter: a huge win for the warriors off the court. they're one step closer to a new

move forward. >> no doubt a win for the warriors but the fight is not over yet? >> reporter: that's right. at least one group intends to file an appeal of the judge's decision. its members remain convinced that build on the plot of land behind me will cause sere yois traffic issues in the area. we're at the corner of 16th and 3rd and the misbay alliance says it will cause emergency shoes especially on game days. still the superior court judge rejected the lawsuit without comment late yesterday afternoon and ruled that the city's environmental impact was sufficient. you're looking at rendering of a project. ap 18,000-seat sports arena. the warriors are very pleased by the court's ruling. >> what the court and the junl really got at was somehow this notion that the environmental review was rammed through city all, all political and you know

not done adequately. that's not the case. >> we always knew this case may well end up in the appellate court. we have a three judge panel that conducts the review and we believe with the proper foctfoc and time that we can in fact protect mission bay from this bad project. >> reporter: misbay alliance members have little doubt of their intentions and as of today they have four more day to appeal to the higher court and they say traffic and air quality in the area will only get worse despite the environmental report dispelling this. the new center is expected to open for the 2019/202 season. the mayor told us that the ruling validated the city's review process and he can't wait to waelcome the warriors back t fran. lili tan, today in the bay. thank you. while those warriors try to figure out if they'll have a new home in a few years, they got their work cut out for them

the judge ruling there's no hack in baseball. the st. louis cardinals chris ka rya pleaded gult to accessing a database owned by the houston astros. apparently an employee left the cardinals for the astros and as he left he turned in his company laptop the cardinals and told ka rya the password. yahoo! made what we expect will be its final quarterly financial report. the very first thing that ceo marissa meyers said to analysts and press was, good afternoon, there will be no announcement today. no announcement as to whether yahoo! accepted a bid. so the news is no news. yahoo! took its final bids yesterday. the company's financials are both irrelevant yet somehow disappointing. normally we would tell you -- we'd show you the start to have bell but we kind of like this guy. this is 50 seconds before the

from emeryville looking at the bay bridge and we will see this for a little while longer. then the sun breaks out mid morning and early afternoon and we'll get a beautiful day. also some cooler temperatures. here's the few from the golden gate bridge. you can see the clouds over the middle of the span. that's not affecting the drivers. visibility is nice and clear. the temperature at 56 degrees heading up to 65. it of course is very humid. looking at san jose, mostly cloudy skies, heading up to 78 degrees. 0 oakland, morning clouds and then by noon the sun comes out, 65 degrees, by 4:00 you're getting ready to head home 67 and also nice throughout the evening. a look at the microclimates, up to 75, peninsula 71 and on the embarcadero on 65 degrees. 75 in san rafael. con card cord is up to 82.

looking at what else to expect, an area of low pressure to the knot, giving us the nice onshore flow. but then through the rest of the week high pressure is building and moving in from the southwest. so that will cause the coast and the bay area to reach into the mid 70s and near 100 degrees inland. so here's a look at the temperatures. in fran we'll have highs in the mid 70s, beautiful weekend ahead. and it will be in the 60s for the next couple of days. but then compare that to the inland areas, nep tespecially i valleys. a nice cool start to the week but by this weekend up to 98 degrees on sunday and still a hot start to early next week. we'll keep you up to date on that. now mike is watching -- what's happening in palo alto and san jose? we appreciate your idea of not looking directly to the sun on her maps. looking at the maps i have, it's

. an update to breaking news. three suspects in custody after a carjacking and chase in the east bay. >> kris sanchez is joining us live where the chase ended. and kris there was an armed robbery involved too? >> reporter: that armed robbery happened five miles down from where i am this morning and there are skid marks leading off to 14th street and leading up to the pedestrian guardrail that the suspects took out when they crashed. hayward police told us it was about 1:3024 morning that the suspects allegedly held up a woman at gunpoint in the parking lot of the toys "r" us store in hayward. they then stole her car and police began pursuing them from hayward to san lorenzo to san leandro. when the suspects crashed here, police approached with guns drawn because they weren't sure where the three suspects were still armed with a weapon or

weapons, the pistols that they allegedly used in the armed robbery. the crash was with such violent force that they had to be transported to the hospital. once they're checked out at the hospital they'll be checked into the jail. the good news is that all of this happened before the morning commute began. this is a busy thorough fare but no impact on that. kris sanchez today in the way. uc berkeley police are trying to figure out who fired a bb or pellet gun on campus. it created panic and frightening moments. shots were fired at the international house, a programming center and housing for international students. happen midnight monday night. there's pretty visible damage including a window that was shattered. a student was struck and has a flesh wound to his eye. investigators believe the shooting may have been carried out by two men. a quick check of traffic open weather.
