breaking news overnight. several people are injured after a driver slams into their car in the south bay and takes off. plus, making history. donald trump delivers one of the longest acceptance speeches in decades during the grand finale of the republican national convention. >> i humbly and greatfully accept your nomination for the presidency of the united states. and nearing an end. the current search for the missing malaysian flight could be the last. let's check that friday forecast with kari. >> it will be a touch warmer today. that can be what we will expect into the weekend. getting hotter, effort inland areas. as we get a look outside all of our microclimate, mostly clear skies as we start out the day. it's now 50 degrees in the north bay. nice and cool there. 59 degrees in the east bay. highs reaching up to 89 degrees. that will be 69 degrees rather in san francisco. 88 degrees in the north bay and 87 degrees in the south bay. we will talk about that warmup for the weekend. that's coming up. mike already has had adventures through fremont. >> adventures, predawn adventures so not much. when you're squeezing every second out of the morning commute, fremont already had traffic brakes so i know the construction is cleared southbound. after we stop there, activity blocking your two left lanes seconds ago. cleared that as well. that was south of 237 heading

down toward the great mall exit. thankfully as we look at the live stop, traffic flow across the nimitz about like that. you see here the crew on the northbound side just about ready to clear from that lane. there will be a quick traffic break north of that as well. we begin this morning with breaking news out of san jose where there's been a hit and run crash with multiple injuries. it happened in south san jose at hillsdale. a driver slammed into another car and then sped off. >> live at the scene this morning, damian, do we know the suspect, who caused this crash? were they arrested? >> reporter: yes, they were taken to the hospital and then presumably be under arrest after that. good morning. officers cleared the scene half hour ago. it happened right here in front of the nissan dealership at the capital expressway auto mall in san jose right where hillsdale turns into capital expressway.

the victim's car was pretty mangled where capital expressway turns into hills day avenue. there was an uber sticker and lyft sticker on the window but police say it's hard to say if the driver was carrying a fare or if he was simply driving with family members in the car. the cause of the accident is still under investigation but police say the driver of the other car took off after the accident. police were able to track him down to nearby carson elementary here in san jose where they took him to the hospital first and then later will be under arrest. he will be tested for drugs and alcohol to see if any illegal substance contributed to the collision. as police try to piece together the accident. >> so the vehicle left the scene and drove a mile, mile and a half to this location where officers located that person. and he's got injuries. so he also was transported to the hospital. >> reporter: sergeant here at the scene tells me the victims

were taken also to a nearby hospital after they complained of pain but he believes all of them will be okay. again, police did clear the scene here just a short while ago and took the victim's vehicle's car away. live in south san jose, damian trujillo, "today in the bay." hundreds of balloons helped bring the republican national convention to a close last night as the entire trump family joined their father on stage. >> that just flew right by, that whole week. donald trump seemed to hold most of the audience at cleveland's quicken loans arena captive during a speech that lasted more than an hour. >> it's time to deliver a victory for the american people. we don't win anymore but we are going to start winning again. >> donald trump painted the current picture of america as one that is crime ridden, under attack from terrorists and economically depressed.

convention. and build momentum heading into next week's democratic convention. virginia senator tim kaine is believed to be the front-runner at this point. the 58-year-old has been active in the senate on foreign relationing and military affairs. he was the governor of virginia prior to that. kaine has also built a reputation for working across the aisle as virginia's governor and mayor of richmond. sources also note that while kaine is the favorite, mrs. clinton has not yet made a final decision. breaking news overseas, a massive search is under way after an indian military plane carrying 29 people goes missing. the plane was taking passengers to islands in the bay of bengal when it lost contact with the air force. the flight was supposed to take three hours but the defense ministry says it's several hours past arrival time. the aircraft can only go four hours without refueling. happening today, raiders linebacker aldon smith expected back in san jose courtroom to be arraigned for violating the terms of his probation.

smith was arrested last august for allegedly drunk driving. hitting a neighbor's car and then taking off. investigators say that violates the terms of his probation from a prior conviction. smith is expected to enter a plea later today. he was cut from the san francisco 49ers following the arrest only to be picked right up by the oakland raiders. coming up, black lives matter protests in oakland and across the country. organizers say this is just the beginning. you're watching "today in the bay." tension over recent police

the streets of oakland. last nit 4:40. tension over recent police shootings boil over again on the streets of oakland. last night hundreds of people protested as part of a national day of action in 80 u.s. cities. black lives matter protesters marched from police headquarters to city hall. tension has been running high since the deadly police shootings of two black men. one in louisiana and one in minnesota two weeks ago. bay area organizers are promising more protests and calls to action in the weeks to come. after a woman is found dead inside her gilroy home police are calling this situation suspicious. officers say about 2:00 wednesday they received a call from a woman saying her daughter was driving recklessly around their neighborhood so officers responded and when they arrived on scene they found the daughter who told them that her mom had shot and killed herself inside their home. police have not identified the woman who died. the push to make california's largest community college free is -- excuse me,

the largest community college free is starting to ramp up. talking about the city college of san francisco. and today community members are holding a rally to educate san francisco voters on the free city college measure. it's going to be on the november ballot. that measure proposes putting a tax on mansions in the city to pay for this plan. if it passes tuition will only be free for san francisco residents. time to take a little look outside this morning. live pictures from oakland. mike and kari will join us next with our friday weather and traffic.

weather and traffic together on a friday. i notice a lot of cars out there already this morning. >> i guess taking a traffic break but that is a whole separate issue. >> we'll get to that in a moment. >> a lot of us trying to beat the heat. this might be our last day to do it. >> i think so. especially if you're inland and you start to feel those temperatures warming up today as well as the weekend. it just continues for several days. a live look outside now. you see that everything looks like it's going well. at least no low clouds and fog as of yet. we may see that developing as we go into the rest of the morning. right now san francisco, it's 58 degrees. heading up to 69 degrees today. a lot of humidity there. up to 97% right now. any low clouds and fog we see early will be clearing to give us a sunny and warm day. and temperatures will be heating up this weekend with little to know morning fog and we know that as we head into the inland areas, it will be reaching into the 90s but we will have some

perfect beach weather with some 70s along the coast. as you head out this morning it feels fairly comfortable, in the 50s. and a great day to head to the beach and pacifica. 72 degrees. winds coming in from the northwest at five to 15 miles an hour. half-moon bay, 70 degrees there in santa cruz a little bit warmer. reaching up to 76 degrees. so looking nice for not only today but the next couple of days. a look at all the microclimates and los gals to today, 90 degrees. redwood city, 83. 85 in napa. while concord is at 89. we'll also have 89 today in san ramon. we've been watching the tropics because this storm system is tropical storm looks like it could get at least a glancing blow to hawaii into the next couple of days. by sunday, this will be moving closer to honolulu with wind speeds expected of 65 miles an hour. so something to watch over the next few days. here at home, our temperatures

going up in san francisco into the low 70s but still staying very nice there. compare that to the mid to up r 90s in the mid to upper valleys. a lot of sunshine and 97 by tuesday of next week. you can see that heat just goes on and on, so, yes, this is the last day we will stay in the 80s. heading over to mike now talking about what's happening at the old bay bridge. >> that's right. go back to revis it a shot we just saw. over here to the rest of the bay and a easy flow of traffic. the traffic break i was talking about was through fremont. overnighting road work cleared. still sticking around here in livermore. this is just on 84 as you come down south of stanley and westbound of course but south on your compass. heading through the dublin area, 580 is smoothly. live look shows you the volume of traffic. what you would expect on a friday. nice easy drive. eastbound will be an issue early afternoon. folks make their get away or stockton, eventually over toward sacramento or sierra. and the shot that kari showed

you at the beginning. clearview of the city from emeryville. bright lights, that's an overnight road crew as well. on the old span of the bay brin. it's not on the new span. traffic flows smoothly past it. that's the bright lights you will see from time to time in this shot. back to you. the first of three funerals will be held today for the baton rouge police officers shot and killed sunday in an ambush. authorities expect members of law enforcement agencies from across the nation to attend today's funeral for officer matthew gerald. 41-year-old was a former marine and blackhawk crew chief and was a first year officer. he leaves behind a wife and two children. funerals for the other two officers are scheduled for tomorrow and monday. french authorities say the man behind the deadly bastille day attack in nice did not work alone. candles flickered last night at a memorial marking one week since 84 people were killed during a beachfront celebration turned massacre. a paris prosecutor says the truck driver who carried out

that attack had been plotting it for more than a year. authorities rounded up five other suspects who are now behind bars. they face preliminary terrorism charges and were linked to the case through cellphone calls and text messages. it is 4:49. new details this morning. >> new york city police officer accuse of being drunk driving his car into a group of pedestrians in the city. killing a bay area college student. we've now learned the officer has been fired. the victim drew was a senior at m.i.t. interning in new york at the time. we're about to show you a picture from his facebook page. he was walking with friends in brooklyn when rookie officer drove on to the sidewalk early saturday morning. bapka is facing a slew of charges. he was due at work four hours after that. fighting not just a political campaign but also a legal battle. donald trump's lawyers are going to ask a san diego judge to toss

out a lawsuit against trump university. that case is one of two class action lawsuits accusing trump university of false promises including the claim that they would teach success in real estate. the university no longer exists. now trump argues this case lacks merit. he also is claiming the presiding judge that you see there is biased due to his mexican heritage. happening today at the white house, president obama meets with mexican president. the pair expected to discuss trade and border security. the president reportedly been trying to reassure him that a potential donald trump presidency would not hurt u.s./mexico ties. the president has been critical of trump's proposed border wall, something he does not support. in business news this morning, verizon users your days of unlimited data may be coming to an end. >> not music to your ears. for the rest of the news before the bell we turn to landon dowdied a cnbc's world

headquarters. happy friday, landon. >> reporter: hi, happy friday to you both as well. wall street looks to end the week on a positive note. futures are higher. stocks fell thursday with the dow snapping nine-day winning streak on the back of disappointing earnings from intel and others. we get earnings today from general electric, american airlines. the dow falling 77 points to 18517. nasdaq slipping 16 to 5073. paypal strikes a deal with visa. users of the mobile asp will be able to instantly withdraw money they receive through the payment service they link it to their visa debit cards and in return visa will make paypal part of the digital wallet program allowing it to be accepted when visa partners with stores and banks for mobile payments at the checkout. . and verizon says there's a limit to unlimited. starting next month customers who still have unlimited data plans and regularly go over 100 gigabytes a month will be forced to switch to limited plan or get kicked off of the network. if you're streaming every "game of thrones" episode on your
