i don't know how many people -- there are people that wake up and say, wow, the country is deteriorating but a lot of people didn't recognize that country that he described either. i think it's a very polarizing speech. >> this wasn't the shining city on the hill. this wasn't morning in america. he sounded like a wartime president last night. >> very dark. you're just used to -- even when we've had difficult elections where we feel like we've hit bottom, whoever is running is trying to have a sunny atmosphere. have a sunny personality. that was not there at all. now, maybe the electorate is going to respond to that. >> what he's been so masterful at doing is speaking to people's anxieties but where he's fallen short time and time again is laying out a solution for getting us to a better place. that was true of last night as well. >> he's betting that what we've seen over the last three weeks is what we'll see over the next

three months. >> didn't seem it was a convention about tried and true general election pivot. it does seem that he's still talking to republican base voters and is that because that's what this election is going to be? less about the middle anymore and more about turn out your people on both sides? >> it's because it was on his to-do list. he needed to bring the republican party together. he didn't arrive -- hillary clinton is going to arrive at her convention having for the most part united the democratic party behind her. he hadn't done that yet. i think he did achieve that this week. >> best moment of the rnc and worst? >> i'll pick the same moment. ted cruz. best and worst. it was worse because the party was not united coming out. >> best moment for donald trump was his daughter softening these rough edges around him. for me the most uncomfortable

news. what do you know? what does your reporting say about how this went down this week? did roger ailes fight this or did he rorls accept that this was a fait accompli. >> initially his instinct to fight, he ral.rallied women to speak out against gretchen carlson, but that was seen an an overreach and they conducted an outside legal investigation into these sexual harassment claims and as the evidence mounted i think roger ailes from what i'm hearing saw the writing on the wall and his lawyers negotiated his exit. >> there is a lot of cocktail chatter and curiosity about what roger ailes' next move would be, whether he would go back into politics, perhaps work for donald trump, whether he might start a new network and take some of the big fox talent with him. what are you hearing? >> reporter: well, i think it's basically an open -- he can't starl a rival network, as part

of his severance agreement he has a noncompete clause with true pert murdoch. now, to the trump question, that's an interesting point. you know, roger ailes got his start working for richard nixon's 1968 presidential campaign and donald trump has really been running a knicks ownian silent majority law and order campaign so there is a lot of talk, there is no deal in place but i think the two men know each other. the question for trump, though, is considering his issues with women does he want to hire a media adviser who has just come out of a very public sexual harassment scandal? >> it's reported that some of the biggest stars at fox news have an out in their clause that would allow them to exit if roger ailes were no longer there. is that true and what's the likelihood that we could see that kind of exodus? >> that is true that a lot of the biggest stars including bill o'reilly do have outclauses in their contract. what i'm hearing is the chatter about the mass walkout was roger ailes' spin to put pressure on

the murdochs to give him a better deal. there was not plans for a walkout. behind the scenes a lot of the talent on fox news, bill o'reilly, sean hannity are intensely competitive with each other, the idea they would bond together to leave struck a lot of people on the inside as not possible. >> gretchen carlson's lawsuit, still live, it goes on? >> yes, still goes on. her lawyers are intending to fight this all the way. >> gabe sherman in cleveland, thank you very much. we appreciate it. let us get another check of the weather from mr. roker. >> all right, guys. it's been a very active pacific ocean if you are cane season, very quiet in the east, but we're watching tropical storm darby right now, it's probably going to brush the hawaiian islands, not a direct hit but probably a lot of rain and some winds, it's 490 miles east of hilo, 65 miles per hour and moving to the west at 13. closer to the home in the

to houston and new york city down to tallahassee, triple digit feels-like temperatures and over the weekend. it will feel like 106 in washington on monday. raleigh, 99. 87 on monday. 103 in knoxville. we will get some relief starting monday from the plains as this front pushes through. temperatures drop down into the mid 80s by wednesday. look at this. in the northeast, you don't see temperatures really cool down until maybe thursday and they good morning. i'm meteorologist kari hall. it is 63 degrees and a lot of sunshine. that will help warm up our temperatures very quickly as we go through the day. right now, 57 in napa and san francisco. 61 degrees in san jose. and livermore at 60 degrees. for the south bay, into the

i'm ... ==vo== three people were hurt in a hit-and-run crash in san jose overnight. good friday morning. three people were injured in a hit and run crash in san jose overnight. this happened right in front of the nissan dealership on the capital expressway. the victims' injuries were minor but were taken to a hospital. the driver who caused that crash left the scene and was found a mile away. that driver was also injured. and was taken to a hospital. now the victim's car had an uber and lyft sticker on it. police say it is not clear if the car was carrying any passengers or family members. we'll get a check of the traff traffic. right now, the backup is getting better? >> light volume around the bay. we'll zoom into this portion of the bay commute. the bay shore freeway recovering out of san jose.

of the way up to omaha triple digits. you make your way east from indianapolis, atlanta, raleigh, new york city. 100 degrees or better. and look at over the weekend, i mean, 111 it will feel like in st. louis. 103 in raleigh. washington on monday it will feel like 106. we see some relief in the plains monday. temperatures start dropping by the midweek period. look at in the east. i mean, we don't get any relief until thursday on boston, 87. 88 in new york. 95 on thursday in norfolk. good friday morning. we do have a nice, cool start in san francisco at 61 degrees with mostly sunny skies. 62 degrees in oakland. already up to 69 degrees in concorde. san jose at 65. it's quickly warming and that's what we can expect at least for the inland areas. san francisco will be fairly nice. up to 69 degrees today. some low 70s for the weekend.

good morning, right now it's 68 degrees in the trivalley. it's warming up in spots and very quickly. a lot of sunshine. unless you're near the coast, we have seen some fog in spots. we'll be up to 69 degrees with mostly sunny skies. up to 88 degrees in the north bay. and 90 degrees in the trivalley with upper 80s in the south bay. over the next several days, our temperatures will be slightly above average in san francisco. you'll notice a huge difference with the high heat for the inland areas reaching to the mid-90s for this weekend. it will stay hot even into next week with upper 90s. the heat peaking next tuesday. let's head over to mike for a

taking a look at the headlines. donald trump accepted the republican presidential nomination thursday night with a fiery speech that ran a record 75 minutes long. trump promised to deliver the nation from what he called a moment of crisis, fighting terrorism, and attacks on police officers. and he gave new details about his proposed muslim ban, saying immigration should be suspended from any country compromised by terrorism. we have an important recall to tell you about. about 34,000 video baby monitors are being recalled due to a burn hazard. the recall involves care and share video baby monitors sold from may 2013 through last may. the firm has received almost 500 reports of batteries overheating and expanding. no injuries have been reported. but consumers should stop using the product, and contact the
