"breaking news"--- yet another nightclub shooting in florida --this time in fort meyers -- where at least two people are dead, an m breaking news. another nightclub shooting in florida. this time in fort myers. at least two people are dead and more than a dozen others are injured. a destructive fire raging to our south. firefighters are trying to save hundreds of homes threatened by a wild fire burning in monterrey county. as an outbreak burns up-and-down the state. bernie sanders supporters feeling burned by the democratic party. thousands are protesting on the streets of philadelphia as the national convention gets ready to take center stage. >> in case you were remembering. >> temperatures soaring going into the weekend. fire danger became fire reality. >> yes, unfortunately. we'll have high heat across the region but much of the bay area will get a little bit of a break today, and then those temperatures start to ramp up. as we get a look outside now over microclimate starting out this morning with temperatures in the low 50s in the north bay and upper 50s for the trivalley as well as the south bay. low clouds in san francisco. that will be clearing out to give us sunshine. we'll be up to 68 there and 92 in the tri-valley with 78 in the north and south bay. i'll detail what else to expect as the temperatures go up this week. mike is watching a crash in san jose. >> it happened early morning. we'll be showing overall what you might expect. i know this one has been working for some type. southbound 87.

the freeway is moving well. i'll double check chp. there was a car over on the side. no major injuries but could take awhile to clear. we have some breaking news from overnight. two people are dead and up to 16 injured after a shooting outside a florida nightclub. happened a little after midnight at a place called club blu in fort myers. that club happened to be holding an efbtd for minors. witnesses say people as young as 13 were in attentidance. >> police say officers detained three people connected to the shooting. they're not providing more information as to what might have lead up to the violence. authorities tell nbc news the shooting doesn't appear to be terror-related. injuries range from minor to life threatening. hundreds of homes in a line of a wild fire burning in monterrey county. as we speak, the fire has already destroyed six homes. people are being told to leave

their places of residence as this fire is gaining ground. the fire scorched 11,000 acres, and at this point, last update, it's only 5% contained. more than 1600 homes are threatened right now. that fire broke out friday at gap row state park. crews believe it's going to take another week to get the flames under control. in southern california new evacuation orders for a massive fire in santa clarita. look at the screen of orange. this is video from the sand fire. at least 18 homes have been burned. flames scorched about 33,000 acres since it broke out on friday. at least one person has died as a result of this fire, which is 10% contained. >> to the south bay police investigating another inside of what has been a violent year for the city. police now searching for a killer after a man was stabbed to death early sunday morning. it happened around south second street right near downtown san

jose. crews say they found the victim with at least one stab wound. witnesses say that man was in his 20s. he later died at a nearby hospital. this is san jose's 28th homicide of the year. radio dispatch paints a frightening picture of a weekend shooting in oakland that targeted a police officer. >> caller: i just got shot at. i was in a car at -- [ inaudible ] oh, i can't get out of the car! >> that is a radio call from the female officer shot as she sat in her car on saturday night. she was not hit by the gunfire. the officer had been involved in a crash on 73rd avenue that left her injured. a man approached the car and opened fire. the shooting comes with police everywhere on edge. >> we're on high alert across the country. we're aware and vigilant everyday we come out here to the job. >> the un-named officer has been

released from the hospital. police have not released the suspect description. tension with law enforcement, no doubt, one of the topics that will be discussed as we take to the city of brotherly love for decision 2016. live pictures now from inside the wells fargo center there. it's the democrat's turn. the democratic national convention kicks off today in philadelphia. an important week for democrats but there are thousands of people protesting in philly. actually more than what we saw at the republican convention. the demonstrators are angry after e-mails show the democratic party favored hillary clinton over bernie sanders over the primaries. a process supposed to be impar shall for the dnc. 20,000 e-mails were released by wikileaks over the weekend. as a result, debbie wasserman shultz from florida is resigning officially stepping down after the convention wraps up on thursday. in the meantime, bernie sanders

nearly almost 18 1/2 years. i've been around to see the rise and falls of law enforcement and it is definitely one of the tougher times right now. however, the outpouring of support we've gotten locally is really what truly keeps us going. >> montrell jackson was a 10 year veteran of the force and a new father. a supera superman shield will be pinned to jackson's casket. family and friends will come together to pay for a kidnapped teen. the 15-year-old disappeared in late may. pearl was abducted as she was walking to catch a bus. the suspected kidnapper shot and killed by police. there's no sign of the teen. there's going to be a prayer vigil from where she was last seen that starts at 7:30 tonight. the a bicyclist accused of hitting a car with a u lock during a protest is expected to be sentenced today. youtube video shows 39-year-old

last throughout the day. >> the temperatures really were high yesterday. it will be a little bit cooler today. you can see that smoke floating through the air over the south bay. a lot of valleys will have that moving up from the wild fire in monterrey county. something we'll be watching. as we get a look out there now we have low clouds in spots and we'll continue to have temperatures that will be well above average in many spots. it's now 52 degrees in morgan hill. 59 in concord, and 58 as you step out in oakland. it's 57 in napa and a cool 51 in santa rosa. a look at the highs today. we'll be up to 87 in santa rosa, 72 in oakland, and 84 in san jose with 90s. but we're coming down from 100 degree readings like we had yesterday. throughout the day in oakland we'll have more clouds at 8:00 and it'll be 59 degrees. a lot more sunshine, a very pleasant afternoon with highs in the lower 70s.

and we've been talking about those fires. once again, monterrey county in another one north of l.a. and the one near l.a., is in the most critical drought area, exceptional drought. and once again will cause major problems for them as the heat continues to build across southern california. for us, we'll get a little bit of a break with more of an onshore floor. morning clouds and drizzle to start. it will hot in the valley. reaching into the 80s and 90s and then tomorrow those temperaturines go back up. the fire danger will be increasing. so looking at that forecast in san francisco upper 60s today and we'll be in the mid 70s tomorrow. you see how quickly the temperatures ramp up. up to 100 degrees for the inland areas on wednesday. so get ready for that, mike. what is going on as you head out across the peninsula. >> first of all, we have to get

respond to requests for comments about the housing issues. one official said they are aware of the problem and working to resolve them. the international olympics committee said it will not oppose a blanket ban on russian athletes over the nation's doping record. russian athletes arrived last night in brazil. the ioc said leaving up to global sports federations to decide which russian athletes to accept in their sports. the decision follows new allegations of a government-backed doping program involving russian athletes a the 2014 winter olympics in sochi. russia's track and field athletes have been banned from the rio games over the doping scandal. breaking news in business news this morning. verizon confirms it is buying a big part of sunniville's yahoo! >> for that we turn to landon dowdy. good morning. >> good morning. that's right.

verizon agreed to buy yahoo!'s core internet business for about $5 billion. the deal was announced moments ago. yahoo! will sell the e-mail service and news, sports, and finance site and ad tools. verizon will integrate yahoo! with the aol unit. it could end the four-year reign of ceo marissa meyer. the markets are coming off their fourth straight week of gains on a back of host earnings and economic data. look for data this week on housing, the consumer, and gdp. the fed begins the policy meeting on tuesday. it's the busiesiest week of earnings season with the likes of apple, facebook, boeing, and coca-cola. the nasdaq up 26 to 5100. also, gas prices continuing their downward trend. a new survey shows that the national average for regular unleaded dropping 7 cents over the past three weeks to $2.22 a gallon. mostly due to lower oil prices.

a wolverine caught on camera. take a look at is a rare sight in the sierra. a wolverine caught on camera. take a look at the video from the california department of fish and wildlife. the little guy scaling a tree, chewing on bait there. biologies believe the wolverine is the same one they captured photos of eight years ago. now, at that time, it was the first documented sighting in that area since the 1920s. scientists believe the wolverine my grated all the way from idaho. boating, water skiing, and fishing are no longer allowed on lake coyote. santa clara is tapping the lake for the drinking water supply. >> lingering drought issues in the delta near sacramento forcing santa clara county to
