6:39 am
unpredictable behavior. erratic winds and high temperatures made this fire basically do whatever it wanted. that's what some of the firefighters on the scene yesterday were telling us. it was expanding in almost every single direction. right now there are about 1600 firefighters on the fire lines. many have been assigned to structure protection. they're in neighborhoods making sure that the embers that fall on homes don't catch. we've also seen a lot of homeowners that stayed behind with water hoses. even sprinklers on their roofs making sure that their homes are protected. we know that 18 homes have been lost so far. but there are ground assets, there are assets in the air that are constantly monitoring the area. the temperatures are a little bit low so ground crews are ability to get a little bit closer and make the lines. this is going to be a fire that is very active. we're also hearing that it could be week, could be before friday that fire crews really have a handle on this.

6:41 am
concern today as they try to get containment on the wild fires. here we're going to have hot weather. not as hot as over the weekend. we're coming down from triple digits in spots like fairfield, concord, and livermore. it will be warm. and the coastal areas will be in the 60s. i'll talk more about that coming up in less than ten minutes. mike has a slow drive that continues past the san mateo bridge. >> yeah. related to the first crash we've been talking about. there may be a second farther south. most of the bay looking good. the concentration for the southbound 880. still a big rig on the shoulder. we don't know whether all lanes are cleared. there's a slow down approaching that scene. something going on at the dunbar bridge toll plaza. chp should arrive shortly. the tri-valley looks okay. south san jose the live look shows you 101 from 680 and 880 and coming into downtown.
