good morning on this tuesday. on this sizzling tuesday. i'm sam brock. >> it's sizzling hot. if you're up early, it's 4:31. let's check in with kari. >> we will have hot temperatures today. even though we start out the same with some 50s and low 60s as you head out the door. but getting a look at all of our microclimates now, it's 53 degrees in san francisco. a few low clouds there. along the coast. 63 degrees now in the south bay. and that's where it will be very hot. reaching 97. 102 in the tri-valley and 99 degrees today in the north bay. we will talk about how hot it gets as those temperatures continue to rise this week. that's coming up. and heading over to mike now. fog may play a factor in san francisco. >> we have the golden gate bridge. this is our shot. we do see that this is clearly an issue for folks. may play a factor. look, the other bridges in san

francisco, bay bridge, crystal clear over toward the city. both routes moving easy. you have something that happened in the south bay. >> that's right. it's new news this morning from the south bay, mike. one person in the hot after a truck fire that spread to an adjacent hillside. this is video hot overnight from stevens canyon road near the reservoir in cupertino. when theyer arrived they had to launch an aggressive attack to contain the fire as it ran up a steep hill. the driver of the truck suffered burns. the severity of which are not yet known. when the democratic national convention resumes again tonight delegates are going to be picking the presidential nominee. >> it will follow when at times was a rough beginning last night as bernie sanders supporters created a raucous atmosphere. they often booed and chanted bernie sanders after wikileaks showed favoritism to hillary clinton. bernie sanders was night one's key note speaker.

the "today" show will air from philadelphia where coverage begins at 7:00 a.m. now to the latest developments on two raging wildfires in california. the latest video coming out of the fire on the left, that's burning in monterrey county and the sand fire on the right, scorching areas north of los angeles. the soberanes fire, some 16,000 acres have burned and thousands of firefighters are still on the front line will last night many evacuees packed a building. many wondering which when they will be able to return to their homes. we spoke to one woman who lost everything in the flames. >> just trying to pick up the pieces of my life. so thankful we were able to get our cat. i'll so mourning for my neighbors who were not able to get their pets. nothing could be done. >> more than 50 bulldozers were brought in yesterday to provide a barrier between the homes and

the fire. so far there's no word when evacuations will be lifted. that one of two major fires going on in california right now. north of los angeles this morning the giant sand fire continuing to rage. fire crews say it's burned more than 35,000 acres and it is still only 10% contained. shifting winds have fanned the flames destroying at least 18 homes and threatening more than 1500 others. at least 10,000 homes have been evacuate and several roads remain closed leaving so many folks stranded. >> breathtaking. you can't breathe. you can't see. and the soot gets in your eyes. so it's just horrible. >> the fire sentence. depending on the wind factors and what have you, it takes its toll on many lives. >> the fire started last friday. investigators say that one death has been confirmed as a result of the fire. some 3,000 firefighters are now

battling those flames. 4:36. new details now on a knife attack in japan that killed at least 19 people and injured dozens more at a home for the disabled. it happened in the city of sagamihara, west of tokyo. 26-year-old man former employee at that facility carried out the attack. police say many victims were asleep when they were stabbed. the suspect later turned himself in to to police. the motive however remains unclear. there are no immediate links to terrorism. a former san mateo police officer has been officially karnlged in connection of rape, assault, and kidnapping. noah winchester was in court yesterday. in addition to raping a woman winchester sexually assault at least four other we'll including a 17-year-old girl. alleged assaults happened when he was a police for the los rois district. winchester worked for san mateo pd for ten months last year. he is expected to enter a plea

quarter to 5:00 on your tuesday morning. the fire to our south is so big and so strong we are smelling it all day yesterday. >> the air quality, too, not good. >> looks like it's going to get worse today and next couple of days, especially as that heat builds and we'll have all of this hot and sunny air -- hot air and sunshine kind of trapping it in between the valleys right now. as we get a live look outside now at the south bay, we start out with mostly clear skies but as the day goes on we will have high levels of ozone and also some very hot temperatures. we've been talking about the

drought and where the fires are now. and once again, we are seeing the fire down near monterrey is very -- near a very dry area. also just north of l.a., the sand fire in a very intense dry area where it will continue to be very critical as they try to get that under control. but it looks like our wind flow starts out blowing offshore. when we have offshore winds it makes the coastal areas even there very hot. but we are starting out with some low clouds and fog there. and it will be a little bit more breezy today. but still a lot of smoke flying through the air reducing our air quality for the day. and the next couple of days. look at how hot it gets as we go into this afternoon and to the low 90s in san jose. up to 91 degrees at 4:00. in san francisco, it will be also very warm there. at least compared to average. up to 76 degrees. and we will drop back into the low 70s tomorrow.

the rest of the forecast brings it into the 60s there. as we get a look at the tri-valley we will have highs today reaching up to 99 degrees and 102 tomorrow. still more 90s in the forecast but it comes back down into the 80sthis weekend. now as we head over to mike let's get an early look at the roadways. >> very calm around post of the bay. i do have one crash coming into the tri-valley. show you the speed sensors along the coast. north bay, easy flow. we're going to zoom into the issue over in the center divide westbound 580. commute direction coming into the area. right around greenveal. sounds like there was a mine jor crash but trying to get them to a shoulder. coming out of the altamont pass typical slowing, and it's clear by the time you get to greenville. bay bridge toll plaza, nice. >> it's time for all that green on the road, how about the green clothing they wear at starbucks.
