let's bring in today in the s a deadly fiery crash involving a big rig on i-880 in san leandro. >> let's bring in pete who just arrived on the scene. it is quite the scene out there, pete. >> yes, quite the scene. i just spoke to chp and the details are very minimal but saying this accident with this big rig that may have hit an embankment happened around 20 minutes ago. you have alameda county, fire, and chp on the scene dealing with the aftermath of that accident. i believe we still have video where you see that this big rig was engulfed in flames. really taking over this embankment area of the freeway. now, we are at the davis street exit heading 880 northbound. so far because of this accident you see that lane four is blocked off. you have three more lanes where the traffic is still going but we're still working to get more information on exactly what led
4:46 am
to the accident. we can confirm it is fatal and you can see traffic is starting to get slowed down a little bit by this. and right now we're going to toss it over to mike with more detapes on what's going on here in the traffic, guys. >> that's right. you heard from pete over there that lane four is closed. what that means is the center divide out to the edge. that would be the slow lane. there are four lanes here. that's the only incident that's causing any real slowing in the bay area for traffic going on northbound 880. at marina boulevard we're now seeing the slow down. we have seen it build up a quarter mile to a half mile from the landfall time we took that report. a slower drive and davis street off-ramp was closed because of the big fire a a death as a result of that crash. that investigation, it must continue over there. possible hazmat situation because of likely the fluids and the fuel that is in the area as well. so we're letting everything take care of over there. we're going to watch the marina boulevard for more off-ramps there and looking at 98 as another option for you to get over to san leandro boulevard

4:48 am
continues. and then this weekend it's slowly backs off. we'll have some highs in the mid 80s. right now it's 63 degrees in concord. in palo alto it's 58 degrees and 59 degrees heading out in oakland. and the poor air quality due to the wildfire farther to the south and monterrey county also we have high levels of ozone with this heat being trapped, especially in the valleys. and the east bay and the south bay is where it will be most unhealthy. so "spare the air" alert means that you shouldn't be -- take public transportation into the next couple of days to try to reduce the amount of ozone levels. and then we'll see how things go as far as the fire containment farther to the south. but with the winds rushing in from south to north, that brings us right into the bay area today. even though it won't be a very strong wind, that is part of the problem and it doesn't help mix out some of that smoke. as it drifts in today expect poor visibility maybe the burning eyes and the itchy

throat and may be a problem for the next couple days as our winds pretty much stay the same bringing in some hot and dry air. as we look at the forecast for san francisco, it will be in the upper 70s today in the next couple of days. and we're looking at heat up to 100 degrees today. even a little bit more in some spots and staying hot into the start of the weekend. now back to you, sam and laura. >> thank you have been must have, kari. apple shares are the ones to watch today. >> the apple watch doing the company no favors. for that and the rest of your news before the bell we turn to landon dowdy who joins it us at cnbc's world headquarters. it's 4:49. good morning, landon. >> good morning to you both. wall street could rebound from a mixed session on tuesday. futures are highing. the dow falling for a second straight day as investors digested several earnings including disappointing results from mcdonald's. demand for durable goods, pending home sales and boeing, coca-cola, comcast, and
