>> we'll have great weather. getting ready for a nice, cool start this morning. seem s milder in spot the like the south bay. it's 53 in the north bay in san francisco. the low clouds will move in. we start out with a high of 68 degrees. very comfortable. it will be hot in the tri-valley and inland areas. nowhere close to the triple digits. we'll not see that as we go through the week. we'll talk about the slight warm up into the next couple of days. that's coming up. let's head over to mike for an update in san leandro. >> all lanes were blocked southbound 880 and marina boulevard. coming down into hayward out of oakland. we're looking here and the speed sensors are showing a slow down there. they have a two cars requiring a tow truck in the fast lane. we'll get more information and

give them a call. we'll see slowing as you get off the freeway there at davis. you might be able to get around city streets. if traffic is getting through, i'll check it again, and let you know how the traffic flow is affected. let's look at the live shot from oakland. i did turn it to the south. we see the bright looks backing up around 98th. that's an indicator that traffic is backing up. i'll get you back in ten minutes and on twitter. >> mike, we're looking at breaking news overnight. investigators in south san jose trying to figure out what started a fire in the strip mall. the fire breaking out around 3:00 on willow street near almond drive. no injuries reported. at this point, it's not clear how many businesses were damaged. arson investigators trying to figure out if it was intentio l intentionally set. more breaking news this morning. thieves with a lot of the valuables on the loose this morning after breaking into an antique store in san francisco and getting away with thousands of dollars worth of priceless

items. many dating back to hundreds of years. "today in the bay" sharon is live at the antique store on jackson street where it happened. sharon, as i understand you spoke with the shop owner. >> reporter: that's right. i did speak with the shop owner about a half hour ago. he had workers boarding up the windows, as you can see behind me. he didn't want to go on camera but he had a lot of stories to tell about the items. daniel fine of an daniel fine of antiques said there's a lot of new stores opening on jackson street. he's had the antique store here since 1992. he said it's the first time he's been burglarized with so many items taken. the burglars were clearly in a rush with the alarm going off, even leaving behind a flashlight. here are some of the items they took. sterling candle sticks dating back to 1771. it's a shame because there were so many set pieces such as sterling silver tea set they got away with part of the set. now the rare part of history is

no longer intact. the owner said most likely these pieces will be sold and melted which he said is such a shame. it's back here live police will be back here this morning, i'm told, by the owner to dust for fingerprints. you can see behind me there's graffiti that turned up overnight. no word if it's connected to this burglary, but the owner said definitely a lot more vandalism has been happening in this area. they're concerned and they want these suspects caught. reporti ing live in san francis. "today in the bay.." more breaking news coming in this morning. palo alto base tesla motor says it will buy solar panel installer solarcity for $2.6 billion in shares. to form a one-stop clean energy shop. the combined entity will offer home battery solar systems and electric cars under a single brand. the deal includes a so-called go

shop provision that runs through september 14th, which will allow solarcity to continue solicit offers from other potential buyers for a short period of time following its signing. lawyers for the man charged in the murder of morgan hill teenager sierra lamar will be back in court today. antwon garcia torres has been scheduled to start the trial today but they'll ask to move it to october. she disappeared in 2012 on her way to school in morgan hill. her body has never been found. two men are facing criminal a peninsula woman killed when a gunman opened fire in a popular area of that city. her family is mourning her senseless killing. austin police are looking for

the shooter. >> reporter: the family doesn't know the shooter. teqnika moultrie was 30 years old. deep ties to here in the bay area. her family thinks she was in the wrong place at the wrong time. the sound of the gunfire was caught on a camera after 2:00 on sunday morning. you can see how many people were still out and about on sixth street. moultrie only arrived on friday. she was visiting her partner's family in austin. the two, as you mentioned, were planning a wedding celebration for this october. moultrie was a school bus driver for the sequoia union high school district. her brother said she spent the day with friends this weekend. after a night out she and the others were leaving a doughnut shop when she was shot. >> she loved her job. she loved kids. she was a super star basketball

player at woodside high school. she loved basketball, softball, she loved her family. she was just a great person. >> moultrie died of her injuries. three other people will recover from their gunshot wound. police are looking for a person of interest. they have not called him a suspect. 24-year-old endicott mccray, according to our sister station in austin. he has a record in another county. the family said they have no idea who the person is. several family members are on their way to austin. >> love for them. thank you very much. new information on the man who piloted a hot air balloon. he had a driving under the influence arrest on his record. alfred nichols moved to texas and that happened before that.

he later pleaded guilty to misdemeanor dui. the better business bureau warned consumers not to do business with nicoles. saturday's crash killed 16 people making it the worst hot air balloon crash in u.s. history. they believe the balloon hit power lines before it plummeted to the ground. >> we're here to find out what happened so we can keep it from happening again. that's really our purpose in life. >> two of the victims matt and sunday rowan were a young couple from san antonio. they married less than a year ago. there are more concerns out east. deadly flash flooding already left behind a path of destruction. the flood water swept two people to their deaths in maryland. more than six inches of rain fell in the town in just two hours. that would be what they would normally get in a month. much of the historic town's main street now ravaged. here is video that is watched

around the world this morning. dramatic video catching the raging flood waters and people forming a human chain to rescue a woman who was trapped in her car. she eventually climbed out a window and carried to safety. two men are facing criminal charges for climbing to want i of the bay bridge. here is a live look at the bridge. the men jumped a railing along the bike pedestrian path. they went up a large suspension cable to the top of the eastern towers. the pair reached the top of the 525-foot tower, by the time the chp officers arrived, the pair was on the way back down. both are facing trespassing charges. the soberanes fire continues burn. it burned about 40,000 acres in monterey county. 57 homes have been destroyed. some 2,000 more structures have wrecked. the fire is responsible for a death of a forest worker whose

bulldozer toppled. the fire is listed at 18% contained. rugged terrain is making that fight even more difficult. smoke from the fire has been covering, blanketing the south bay. >> it's been gray. let's check in with kari. i know the high pressure was holding that in. how are we looking today? >> it looks like the air quality improves a little bit today but then going back down the next couple of days as we get another shift in the wind. temperatures we are starting out with mild weather upper 50s to low 60s. won't be as hot today. we'll see spots like fairfield hitting low 90s. liver more 90 degrees. san francisco up to 68 degrees. we'll talk about that warming trend and what else to expect as we go through the week. that's coming up. let's head over to mike for an update on the roadways. >> we have traffic flowing. you might recall as we look at the entire bay nothing major concerned except in san leandro. we had all lanes blocked from

before taxes. >> and we get to show up for work today. >> of course we do. >> love this job. we want to check in with kari. haven't loved hot weather lately. >> yeah, it's been so hot, laura and scott. as we head out this morning. here is a look at the golden gate bridge. we don't see the low clouds and fog yet. we may see some throughout the rest of the morning. right now 61 degrees headed up to 68. as we go through the day here is what to expect. it will be partly cloudy at times. some patchy fog and cool and breezy throughout the day. the week ahead we'll see more of the same morning clouds and fog and afternoon sunshine with highs in the 60s there. this weekend temperatures stay near average and san jose we'll have warmer temperatures, but this is about closer to average compared to what we had last week with all of that hot weather. we start out at 62 degrees at into the lower 80s by early afternoon. with breezy winds and it will

feel nice and comfortable. so the air quality has improved. we have gone from unhealthy to moderate. smoke drifting through the air but not as bad as it happen. we may see the air quality going back downhill as we get a shift in the winds into the next couple of days. mostly the south bay and east bay will be the spots we'll be reaching. highs today reaching 83 in the south bay andwood city. 79 in the financial district. that's at 68 degrees. 86 in danville and walnut creek 87. we have is high pressure across the region, but slowly start to move off to the east but before it does so, we'll have warm temperatures for the middle of the week, and then a stronger on shore flow giving us the natural air-conditioning in time for the weekend causing the temperatures to back off. a look at the next seven days in san francisco highs reaching into the upper 60s. lower 60s by the week's end into the land areas. low 90s there. but low to mid 80s for the end

of the week into the weekend. let's head over to mike to see what is happening on the roadways. >> we're checking on the overall commute. we see nothing major. the issue we're focussing on here in san leandro continues. we have the fast lane blocked southbound 880 and marina. the slow down starts south of 98 past davis to the scene of the crash. on one lane blocked southbound. but starting to see more traffic as we head toward the east bay. a little slowing at the toll plaza. the live camera shows there was a car carrier going and seen that before. it was an unusual back up. it might be contributing to more cars waiting in line because the one car carrier took about five car lengths. other than that a smooth slow down. coming up this morning we'll take you to rio as thousands of athletes are hoping to win the gold! they're arriving in brazil for the olympics. we'll show you how the city's

moultrie was a school bus driver for the sequoia union school district. three other people that were shot will recovered. police have identified 24-year-old endicott mccray as a person of interest. he now has an outstanding warrant for first-degree murder. according to the african-american statesmen, he has several burglary convictions. moultrie's family members don't know who that person is. several of moultrie's family members are on their way to aust austin. new details on the man who piloted the hot air balloon who was involved in a deadly texas crash. he was arrested in the past for driving drunk. the arrested in missouri more than a decade ago before pilot alfred nichols moved to texas. he later pleaded to misdemeanor

an entire month's worth of rain fell in just a couple of hours. more than 120 other people had to be rescued, including this woman. several people forming a human chain to rescue that woman trapped inside her car. she crawls out through the window. eventually carried to safety. we know the man who died over the weekend at land's end. 28-year-old vincent colin the died yesterday when he fell nearly 100 feet down the embankment into the water near the sutro bathings. the cause of death is under investigation. a toxicology test is scheduled for next week. a woman was saved from the cliffs. she was not seriously injured. a disturbing and potential dangerous discovery on a popular north bay trail. they found a homemade spike strip. it was 4 feet long with rubber

and 30 rusty screws and secured to the ground with spikes. some who use the trail believe it could be part of an ongoing feud between hikers and bikers who use the trail. san francisco's balanced budget ready to be signed. the mayor ed lee will put his signature on the nearly $10 billion budget this afternoon. the budget caused controversy among the board of supervisors last month. it hinges on a increase of taxes that must be approved by voters. it would add .75% to increase the city sales tax. it's counting on $150 million from that tax increase alone. the soberanes fire contributing to the poor air quality around the bay area. here is a satellite time lapse showing the smoke directly across the bay area over the last couple of days. it triggered several spare the air alerts over the past week. no alert issued for today. and which is good news.

a little slight cooling trend. let's check in with kari. >> a little bit of a breezy wind as we go into the next couple of days. it helped to increase our air quality. making it moderate for the east bay and south bay. we may see some areas of smoke drifting in, but not as bad as it was over the past several days. it will still be hot for spots likefield over toward liver more. upper 80s for concord. and some upper 60s along the coastline and in san francisco. the next couple of days our weather stays like this. a slight boost in the inland temperatures. i'll talk about that and a look at the complete microclimate forecast in 10 minutes. now heading over to mike. >> we have a new crash on the bay bridge. we'll check that in a second. you see slowing already in the westbound direction. over here the biggest impact. look at the rest of the bay. nothing unexpected but hayward and san leandro that has been the problem. the crash is southbound at

marina boulevard. consider the fast lane blocked there as well. slowing from 98th past the scene. a little recovery but then at 238 it starts to jam up again. traffic out of castro valley. reports of a crash involving a semi truck on the shoulder a distractions. >> but is also one lane, the fast lane blocked that's scene. it continues this stretch. oakland and down toward the san mateo bridge. you can stick it out the lanes, except for one lane at a time is open. that's a better bet than getting off the freeway. the bay bridge toll has a back up. i want to show you the reason for the slowing. volume traffic is one issue but toward the treasure island tunnel there's a crash reported shy of the tunnel. i'm watching for the flashing lights. they slow down about this stretch. it should be cleared quickly. the bridge crew arrived and no major injuries. we'll continue to track that.

two dogs died in the fire. the firefighters were able to save two other dogs. >> it's a good feeling to go in there and bring an additional pet out. >> you can see the roof there badly damaged. areas throughout the house damaged. firefighters were able to stop the flames before they spread to nearby homes. and the cause is still under investigation. fire investigators trying to fig yurt out what caused a fire that sent a plume of black smoke over the sky of san jose. it started sunday from a fire that broke out after 4:00 on commercial street not far from the san jose municipal golf course. san jose firefighters had the fire out in about 30 minutes. people were wondering where all the smoke was coming. dangerous situation in pacifica after a car crashes and comes to rest on the gas meter of a home. >> i heard a loud crash. >> it happened near highway 1. police say the car left the roadway and went down the hillside and stopped by the gas

meter. officers quickly reacted and removed the driver fearing the car might catch fire from the crash. police say the driver was okay, but later arrested for driving under the influence. there was no damage to the home. scary scene over the weekend in the emerald hills neighborhood of unincorporated redwood city. sheriff's department say the suv roll over rolled on to the driveway of a home on hillside road. the driver suffered minor injuries. the owner of the home describes the actual moment of the crash. deputies administered a sobriety test taking the driver into custody. court clerks are planning a demonstration for more money. >> today in the bay bay is at the hays mansion in san jose with the details. good morning, chuck.

>> reporter: good morning. this morning the superior court professional employee's association membership will be here hoping to get the attention of the chief justice of california's supreme court. he will be here attending a conference this morning. representatives from hundreds of court clerks researchers, family court mediators, and janitors have authorized a strike, but so far have not walked out. instead, they're hoping to sway public opinion in their favor. experienced court clerks reportedly make $55,600 a year. they've lost about a third of their colleagues during the recession and many of the positions haven't been filled. there's a lot of work. more work than before. they haven't had a raise in eight years turned down reported 4.5% raise offered last year. leadership reportedly advised against accepting 4.5% this year plus an immediate 5% raise for

san jose now at 62 degrees. as we get a look at the day in san francisco, 56 degrees at 8:00. some more clouds moving in. then you'll see the sunshine returning by lunchtime. into the upper 60s will be the high. a look at the microclimate expect a high of 87 today. redwood city 79. and the financial district will be up to 86 degrees. 80 in napa. pleasanton looking at a high of 88 degrees while liver more up to 90. high pressure will be across the region just to the south of us. it will help give us an joonsho flow. we'll have a couple of days of warm weather before we get some stronger winds and our natural ocean breeze as we go into the weekend. as the heat breaks we'll have 70s and 80s. in san francisco for the next several days upper 60s with the weekend temperatures reaching back into the low 60s and

morning clouds and afternoon sunshine in the inland areas. up to 90 degrees today. 91 tomorrow. so there will be a couple of warm days. then we'll bring it back close to average in time for the weekend with 80s for thursdays and friday. this weekend not looking bad either. low to mid 80s as well. now as we head back over to mike, he's been tracking several crashes on the roadways. >> we have updates on the crashes. most affecting the east bay are getting to the west side. look at the map. we have your traditional slowing for san jose. don't forget about that. but that's the usual pattern over there. hayward out of san leeaandro is the issue here. the latest at. one car in the lane southbound. we don't see the slowing. that's where it starts all the way down past the scene of two earlier crashes where those are on the shoulder. that is a slower stretch.
