>> tracking several breaking news stories. first, dramatic video from overseas as passenger jet with nearly 300 people onboard crashes while landing at a dubai airport. >> and a deadly night on the roads near saratoga as a car flies off of a cliff right into a tree killing a 19-year-old woman and sending a teenager to the hospital. but the driver is nowhere to be found. new wildfire is growing forcing evacuations in the north bay. update from crews on the scene right now on "today in the ba.". lot going on. good morning. i'm laura garcia-cannon. >> i'm sam brock. firefighters still battling multiple fires throughout the state. conditions are more moderate today. kari hall has a look at your forecast. >> good morning. it will start to heat up for those inland areas as we will have some cooler air near the coast. and now we are having a temperatures in the mid to upper 50s so a nice cool start. up to 88 degrees today ♪ south bay.

91 in the tri-valley. and north bay will be up to 87 degrees while 67 today in san francisco. it will be the hottest day of the week for the inland spots and wind will pick up, too. a look ahead at cooler air in time for the weekend. that's coming up later. as we head over to mike now, a crash in hayward. >> a bad time for that stretch because we're seeing the build toward the san mateo bridge. right on schedule there. the tri-valley as well as the south bay. your typical spots for the slowing. but as i talked about, south 880, a tough time for a crash to happen as we see that build. look at that. from 238 down toward 92. in that backup with ve that crash blocking one of your middle lanes that could comp my ka complicate things. we will track this big backup as it starts. i'm saying big backup because i'm projecting a problem out of oakland and down toward that san mateo bridge. the bay bridge, a standard

backup. toll plaza camera, all lanes filled in. beautiful sun advisory. no problems down the east shore freeway. going to hand it off to you guys because you have an issue. incident for the south bay overnight. >> very much so. breaking news out of santa clara county this morning. tracking it since it happened. we went on air at 4:30. both lanes of highway 9 not far from saratoga are back open this morning after a car went off a cliff killing a young woman and leaving a 15-year-old girl very seriously hurt. the crash happened high in the mountains. you probably driven that area. "today in the bay's" bob redell is live at valley medical center where that girl is recovering. and, bob, the strange thing about this the driver was nowhere to be found? >> according to chp you are correct, laura. yes, here at valley med that 15-year-old girl who chp, suffers major injuries is being treated after this car crash that happened overnight. this was west of saratoga in the santa cruz mountains on highway 9.

just north of redwood gulch road. there were three people in this car. you had the 15-year-old girl, a 19-year-old woman, and then the 29-year-old man, the driver. it was around 1:15. chp not sure what led up to this crash. if the car lost control or what the circumstances were. but that car did go off the road down what looks like a 30-foot cliff. ended up on its side. smashed into a tree. if 15-year-old badly hurt. 19-year-old woman was killed on the scene. and as we mentioned, chp officers tell us they did try to find the driver. they did a thorough search. still have not found him raising the possibility that he might have fled the scene. as you mentioned, that sig alert was lifted within the past hour. so both sides, both lanes of highway 9 reopened in the santa cruz mountains after this horrific car crash. reporting live outside valley med in san jose, bob redell, "today in the bay." >> thank you very much.

at 6:03, breaking news now internationally. intense video coming in this morning after an emirates jet crash landed at dubai international airport. the smoke just billowing out of the top of the plane. someone at the airport was recording this video of the boeing 777 as it grounded to a halt. passengers say the pilot spoke to them as the plane was approaching the airport saying there was a problem with the landing gear and that the pilot would be attempting an emergency landing. that plane clearly caught fire the entire top half of the plane was burning. somehow there were 300 passengers almost onboard and nobody was injured. those passengers have just flown in from southern india that included six people from the united states. more breaking news at home as we get word of a fire in yolo county in napa has grown to 2200 ache wers 5% containment. pete sure ran nos is on the scene and some evacuees spent the night at winters public safety center north of

vacaville. it forced them from their home broke out east late yesterday. it's being called the cold fire because it's near cold springs canyon. evacuations are in place at the canyon creek resort and golden bear estates. more than 500 firefighters from napa, solana and yolo counties are on the front lines. we will bring you a live report at 6:30. also breaking news surrounding the rio olympics. michael phelps, the most decorated olympic athlete of all time is set to add a unique honor to his glittering resume, flag bearer. the swimmer has been chosen to lead the american athletes into rio's m rrks irricana's stadium. in the meantime, they're brace for a pretty chaotic day at south bay courthouses. today union court employees, they plan to walk off their job over wages and staffing issues. nbc bay area was the first to break the news of the strike date earlier this week.

>> possibly hundreds of people striking. "today in the bay's" kris sanchez is live in san jose. kris, this strike you think is expected to start within the hour or so? >> it is schedule to start. we see the picket signs are starting to arrive. all of the tents are starting to arrive. and the workday doesn't start until a little bit later, but as those workers start arriving here we definitely will see some of the businessiness outside the courthouse that we expect today. though we're not expecting it to be busy inside the courthouse. the clerks were on the picket line on monday warning of this work stoppage that is set to begin shortly this morning. nearly 400 union workers declared a strike because some of them have not had a pay raise in eight years. and they are refusing what the county is offering because it's not an ongoing raise. now, that means that issues for nearly anyone who has business with the court so in preparation court management put a contingency plan on place closing the clerk's offices in morgan hill, palo alto,

sunnyvale, also limiting business in civil family and traffic courts. here at superior court where we are this morning court management may file what's called injunctive relief to force some workers to show up for work anyway because they are in criminal proed eproceedings. in some matters those matters are time sensitive. the man accuse of killing sierra lamar. we talked with her father and a man fighting foreclosure on his home. >> i mean, we've had to suffer through delays all along for four years now. so that would be hard if it's for an extended time. >> what do you think is going to happen? probably going to have a lot longer wait tomorrow. >> reporter: now, again, the court put out a response reading, it is terribly unfortunate that it has come to

this, which will surely impact access to justice. however, the court will do everything it can to maintain essential operations and continue to serve the public in the face of this work stoppage. now, the workers are getting ready to picket, tsigns are her. no word on whether court management will seek that injunction. they gave the union a list of 25 people who they say are critical to the health and safety of the county. the union says we'll give you five, more than that you're going to have to go to a judge and get a junction. go to nbcbayarea.com to see all of this different locations that are effected, to see how that might impact your life in santa clara county today. but as the workers start to gather and picket we will bring that to you as well. in san jose, kris sanchez, "today in the bay." >> we'll back with you. it is 6:08. new this morning, an argument between roommates turns deadly in the east bay. 47-year-old pittsburg man called police early yesterday morning and told them he had shot and killed his roommate following a

dispute. when police arrived at the home they found the 23-year-old roommate dead and the gun used in the shooting. 47-year-old is now in custody and awaiting his first court appearance. while a graphic video and now court charges. a redwood city high schoolteacher's aide makes his first court appearance after being formally charge with having sex with a student. police arrested 22-year-old rodriguez after investigators say anonymous tipster sent him graphic video of rodriguez and the student to the school's vice principal. he approached the 15-year-old sequoia high school student and the two began a relationship last spring. rodriguez is accused of having sex with the teen multiple times. >> they started out just as a friendly relationship and it turned into a sexual relationship. the victim was never forced into it. but it is a crime to engage in oral copulation with a minor. >> rodriguez worked part time at the school for the past two years and remains in jail right

now on $300,000 bail. 6:09. changes are coming to the oakland unified school district after a way a student needs -- special needs student was treated in class. the student was held down by educators more than 90 times in less than a year. something the u.s. department of education says violates his rights. the oakland unified school district placed then 9-year-old stuart at anova center for education in 2013. he is outis tick and has special behavioral needs. but he complained to his mother about rheepeatedly being held dn by the staff. >> the child is put down usually facedown on the ground with two or three adults holding him on the ground. adult hold an arm, adult holding a leg. >> the department of education is requiring the district to terminate contracts with providers that use restraint. and develop an education plan for him that addresses the lasting effects of his

treatment. oakland unified says it is committed to providing a safe environment for all students to learn. we did reach out to anova staff as well. they are on summer break and we've not yet heard back. >> it feels nice when you step out the door this morning. for those living inleft-hand, hold on to that feeling because it's going to change. kari hall has a look at your forecast. >> if it were that easy. >> we will have a nice start to the morning. nice look outside at tib ron. the clouds will hang around for a little while longer. nice and cool. mostly 50s and some upper 50s across the bay area. but, yes, it will be hot as you head inland today into the upper 80s and even some mid 90s. we will talk about a cooldown in time for the end of the week. that's coming up in the microclimate forecast. heading over to mike now, updating that crash now in hayward. >> that's right. looking at the -- good news for the most part. south bay, mild slowing. starting once again in ernest for 101. this is the problem. bad news jam fred 238 down out

at a neighborhood concord police right now are saerchling for a man accused of sexually assaulting a teenager at a neighborhood swimming pool. it happened about 5:00 on sunday evening as a 16-year-old lifeguard closed up for the night at walnut county pool. despite the presence of cameras and security surrounding this facility the man somehow got in and waited until the girl walked out to a shetd to get some supplies. police say that he followed her in and then proceeded to touch her inappropriately. when she asked him to stop he took off. >> our gates are usually locked and -- but people let each

other? >> yeah, it does seem like he was, you know, staking things out, so to speak. >> when he actually sits down next to her and touches her but pit puts his hand on her thigh. >> police and members of the homeowners association are scouring surveillance footage hoping to find a clue that leads them to an arrest. 6:15. neighbors in run east bay city are being told to be an alert after five violent robberies in two hours. police in berkeley say it started monday night when two men robbed a couple right outside the fraternity house. within an hour, four more complaints were called in. and three of those, the victims say they were threatened with a gun. yahoo! issing looking into reports of a massive hack of its users. >> let's get right to it, scott mcgrew. how bad is it? >> depends, sam, on how old the data is. how many of the accounts hackers are putting up for sale are actual current accounts.

obviously one way or the other it would be a good idea to change qulour password you use yahoo! mail, flickr or tmblr. tesla reports its profits today though tesla is unlike any company we cover. tesla stocks, strangely, unchanged on tuesday. you rarely see that. tesla tends to lose money. it never hits its production targets. i mean, you could say the company doesn't make money by not making cars. and soon we're going to have to factor in solar city into this whole stew. though not this time around. the deal hasn't closed yet. reporter matthew deboard, of business insider, puts it this way. tesla is a carmaker was never easy to understand but tesla as a sustainable energy, manufacturing, and transportation conglomerate will be baffling. we've seen a lot of lawsuits over sports video games, athletes have sued over their

likeness. it never occurred to me that tattoo artists would almost sue for they're own artwork. look at this. lebron james from the cavaliers video game style from the bay area's take two interactive game nba2k. the tattoos are accurate and the artist sued. reuters say the lawyers want 150,000 per violation which you would then multiply by the number of games sold. a judge says they're not going to get that much. now, an eagle eyed sports fan, sam brock, let's go back to that video. points out that they forgot to put curry's tattoo on the inside of his wrist. take a look at that. nice spot there. why day thant, i have no idea. >> he's a splash brother and he's squeaky clean. >> maybe or they just for got. >> or they forgot. >> who sees that? >> 20/10 vision. >> wearing a fitbit? >> i'll do more investigating. reality checking that.

lake tahoe, we love it, such a beautiful place to visit with family and friends but what about three little bears. take a look at this. >> it want believe this. >> giving a high five. >> so cute. >> yeah, cute and adorable. a little close for comfort but i i guess not for these folk out at pope beach in southlake tahoe. people on kayaks nearby enjoying the water. not too far away. the mama bear just came down from the tahoe mountains and decided to take a little dip. everybody has got to cool off this summer, sam. >> hot out there. another day with nature. when in rome -- when that tahoe, hang out with the bears. let's check in with meteorologist kari hall. tahoe is such a great mace to travel to. i know i'm there a lot of the summer. >> you kind of forget the bears are dangerous, right? they are very cute though. taking a dip though in the cool water. that's probably what you will

want to do today, especially if you will be in one of the spots where we will be heating up today. as we look live outside now at sunol, 59 degrees. and let's go through the daily planner for oakland where we will start out with upper 50s there and 70 at lunchtime. 75 for breezy winds at 4:00 in the afternoon. winds coming in from the north and then becoming more westerly as we go through the day. and it will be breezy, effort east bay. helping to improve our air quality so that's been great news. winds pick up a little bit more tomorrow. we'll also start to see the clouds and the fog rolling in late tomorrow night that continues into friday to keep our temperatures down. so we've been talking about the air quality. we're back to normal in the east bay. as well because the high pressure that we had has been moving on and it will still be fairly warm. looking to fairfield today up to 95 degrees.

some low 90s for the tri-valley. oakland today, 75. high pressure that's been here is slowly move off to the east and we'll replace that with low pressure that will help cool down our temperatures. in san francisco, upper 60s today. some low 60s for the weekend. we'll go from 90s to the inland valleys to the low to mid 80s for saturday and sunday. but it does look like it starts to seheat up next week. as we head over to mike, he says the big backup is still on on the anymore polinimitz. >> people expect a slowing drive for the morning commute. overalling it's a treat. optimistic side of things. i do want to show you over here the tri-valley, slowing for 680. right on schedule for the tri-valley and bigger backup for the nimitz. still jammed from 238 down towards a street. loosening up as you pass by the crash now on the shoulder southbound approaching 92 just around whitten avenue. prepare for the distraction again. no lanes are blocked there though. getting up toward the bay bridge

and the u-s mens and womens the rio olympics and opening ceremonies just two days away and the u.s. men's and women's basketball teams are making their way to brazil right now. klay thompson posted this picture on his instagram with both teams hanging out on the plane with the caps "rio broad with the squad #questforgold." >> ten are part of the olympic refugees team. coming from countries affected by war and conflict. the athletes are from syria, south sudan, congo, and ethiopia. this year's games the first to include a team entirely made up of refugees. of course nbc bay area is your home for all things olympics. our website is a great guide to track all of our bay area athletes and there's a lot of

a very good wednesday morning to you. thanks so much for joining us. i'm laura garcia-cannon. >> i'm sam brock. laura says there's love in the air. also wind in the air. nice temperatures. kari hall joining us right now. we would love to get a good forecast. >> we are going to have a great forecast, sam and laura. it will be nice. today it will be a very warm one after a nice and cool start. it's now 55 degrees in san francisco with a high today of 67. 91 in the tri-valley with upper 80s in the south bay as well as north bay and the peninsula today. 77 degrees. we'll talk about a cooldown for those inland spots as we go into the next few days. that's coming up in a few minutes. mike has more slowing now in san

jose. >> yeah, kari. the issue is in the south bay. although hayward is still tracking that. the earlier crash did cause more slowing southbound toward the san mateo bridge. that's moving better. more folks heading toward 92 now. more folks in the silicon valley. as we see that build we see a lot of slowing. there's the airport, north 101 past 87. no crashes reported but i got my eyes peeled on the south bay reports. there is a crash reported on 85 right around stevens creek boulevard. we'll track that portion of the south bay as well. overall, smooth sill can valley drive. 87 shows a little build. highway 9 traffic is flowing. that's open. that's important because while you guys are handling what happened overnight, big crash. >> yes. a horrific crash. update to breaking news we're following. both lanes of highway 9 of saratoga back open this morning. take a look at that. a car just went off a cliff crashing into a tree. 19-year-old woman was killed and is a-year-old in the hospital.

29-year-old man also in the car is missing. crash happened on highway 9 near big basin way. such a curvy road a mile north of redwood gulch just after 1:00 this morning. bob redell is breaking this story. also breaking this morning within the last couple of hours we've learned a wildfire in yolo county has grown overnight to 2200 acres. when you were asleep last night it was about 1700. then it expanded. it's burning out of control according to crews there. we've been on this story all night. "today in the bay's" pete su suratos is live at the scene. pete, how is it looking right now? >> reporter: good morning. as you mentioned, 2200 acres and it's now at 5% containment. we're being told more fire personnel have been added to battle the cold fire. i want to show you what it looks like. highway 128. plea about valley road.

that area is closed off as crews come in and out that are dealing with this fire. now, give you some background information. the fire started around 5:00 p.m. yesterday afternoon east of lake barisea. ye earlier i reported that power lines. >> reporter: threatened due to the fire. this steep terrain is causing issues as far as access for the firefighters. i spoke with cal fire. here's what they had to say about it. >> our dozers and hand crews have a lot of difficulty trying to get in this terrain because it is so steep. the footing is so bad, trying to get the equipment in. the dozers are cutting line on the perimeter of this fire, at the same time they're making roadways or access for the engines. it's a slow process. >> so is this terrain -- >> reporter: mandatory evacuations are in place for nearby canyon creek resort and golden bear estates. 35 home were effected. cal fire says there's 100

evacuees. cal fire advises folks to avoid highway 128 near pleasant valley road as they continue to battle this fire. live in winter, pete suratos, for "today in the bay." in monterrey county we now know the cause of the soberanes fire near big sur. investigators say it started with an illegal camp fire left unattended in the park just south of the town of carmel highlands. while they're hoping the public can help find those responsible for that camp fire, the fire nearly two weeks old now, it has burned more than 44,000 acres and it's only 25% contained. a bulldozer operator died while helping to fight that fire. 57 homes have been destroyed. friends and family gathered to remember a 15-year-old girl who died in the crash in the south bay last friday. cynthia rodriguez was a passenger in the truck along with co-workers from santa clara. the group had just worked at a catered events.

mourners held the vigil last night at the crash site near lafayette street in santa clara. a major question, investigators are still trying to clarify this morning is what caused a charter bus to veer into a pole in the middle of the highway north of merced that killed five people. breaking news yesterday that we brought you on "today in the bay." you can see the bus there especially from the aerial shots where the pole is sliced down the middle of the vehicle. after the bus struck the pole on northbound 99. the bus driver suffered major injuries. investigators were hoping to get more information from him on what led up to that crash. the bus was outside of livingston where a fresh driver was about to take over control of the bus. 18 other passengers were injured. >> the right seats because of the post, take them out or not there anymore. >> that bus was on its way from mexico to washington state. the driver has been identified as 57-year-old mario vasquez. 6:35.

former san mateo police officer pleaded not guilty to rape and sexual assault charges. noah winchester is accuse fd of raping, assaulting, and kidnapping four women and a 17-year-old girl. investigators say all the assault t happened while he was on duty as a police officer in the sacramento area. winchester worked for the san mateo police department for ten months last year before submitting his resignatioresign. he entered his plea yesterday. turning to decision 2016 and political ties unraveling. donald trump is refusing to support some of the top republicans up for re-election in congress. a key republican fund-raiser with bay area ties says her money is going to hillary clinton. >> a lot of developments. "today in the bay's" tracie potts live in washington, d.c. following them all on this race for the white house. tracie? >> sam and laura, just two weeks ago the republicans were talking unity as they wrapped up their convention. but this morning it's looking like anything but. >> i think you probably know me

well enough -- >> reporter: hewlett-packard executive meg whitman tells the "new york times" she'll give six figures to help hillary clinton. shele as donald trump a demagogue. >> it's a crooked system. it's a rigged system. >> reporter: trump is refusing to back house speaker paul ryan for re-election. i'm just not quite there yet, he tells the "washington post," exactly what ryan initially said about trump. but trump is not supporting john mccain either and he calls new hampshire's kelley aoyt a weak leader. president obama calls trump unfit and he's challenging republicans to unendorse. >> if you are repeatedly having to say in very strong terms that what he has said is unacceptable, why are you still endorsing him? he's woefully unprepared to do this job. >> i think barack obama knows something about being woefully

unprepared. >> reporter: analysts doubt republicans will abandon trufr. >> some people will walk away i'm sure. others will hold their nose. the fight will be engaged. donald trump is the standard bearer. >> florida's really, really important to us. >> reporter: tim inn a hit florida tuesday. trump there today. so we know florida is a big deal. colorado is, too, it's one of the reasons why hillary clinton and mike pence are both there today. both of them interestingly about less than an hour apart and two miles apart in downtown denver. >> it is going to be a battle all the way to november. tracie pots live from d.c. thank you. as we mentioned earlier in this show thousands of firefighters continue to bat the soberanes fire. but a few of them were finally able to return home. the 22 men were gone for 11 days. strike team 2250 to us canned on neighborhoods and protecting people's homes at that times

were surrounded by walls of fire. >> the fire is coming, you know, your adrenaline kicks in and you just dig deep and you just do the job you got to do to get it done. >> the firefighters also said the terrain was exceptionally difficult, straight uphill, full of brush, poison oak and falling trees. it burned over 44,000 acres. that's the latest figure. and the fire still only a quarter contained. >> all that smoke we've seen carry up to the bay area as well. want to check in with kari. a little bit has dissipated for us. >> it has. we've had enough of a breezy wind carrying that smoke away from the bay area where the air quality has improved. we've also seen the low clouds this morning. over san francisco that will be clearing out fairly quickly. some mid to upper 50s to start. up to 89 degrees today in morgan hill. palo alto, 84. and 64 in the financial district. and fairfield, 95. and some low 90s for the tri-valley today. oakland looking at a high of 75

happening now. santa clara county court workers walking off the job over issues of pay and staffing. something that the court management says will certainly impact access to justice. nbc bay area was the first to break the news earlier this week. >> as you mentioned, laura, some cases could be on hold her. "today in the bay's" kris sanchez is joining us live from the superior court where some of those court workers are really start took gather behind you at the picket line. good morning. >> reporter: good morning to you. yeah, these strikes should begin shortly this morning. you see the picket signs the workers have created. grinding justice to a halt, chop from the top. protesting a cost of living increase and lack of raises for eight years for some of these workers they say. some of the clerks were on the

picket line on monday warning of this work stoppage set to begin this morning. nearly 400 union workers declare the strike because they say they haven't had a pay raise in right years and is refusing what the county is offering. in preparation court management put a contingency plan in place, closing the clerk offices in morgan hill and limiting business civil, family and traffic court. we put a list of those impacted department on nbcbayarea.com so if you have business with the court today you might want to check that out. as far as the superior court goes, court management may file an injusktive relief to order 25 workers to show up because their jobs impact public safety. among the cases on the docket today, the murder case of the man accuse of killing morgan hill teenager sierra lamar and a man fighting with his foreclosure on his home. >> we've had to suffer through

delays all along for four years now. so it's -- that would be hard if it's for an extended time. >> what do you think is going to happen? >> probably going to have a lot longer wait tomorrow. >> reporter: now the court's response reads in part, it's terribly unfortunate that it has come to this, which will surely impact the access to justice. however, the court will do everything it can to maintain esntial operations and continue to serve the public in the face of this work stoppage. no word yet on whether the court management will seek that legal action to force some of those 25 workers -- 25 of those 400 workers back to work. the union has agreed to allow five of them to go back saying they are essential. but clearly lots of signs here and organizers are ready. they say they have nearly 300 -- 380 so workers ready to picket as they start to arrive later this morning. we'll keep you abreast.

in san jose, kris sanchez, "today in the bay." in the meantime, delivery drones one step closer to popping up by your front door. the white house announced an initiative to work with google's parent company alphabet to help create safety policies for commercial package deliveries by air. the project wing test program is going to conduct experiments at one of the six ffa sanctioned drone test sites in the united states. information h be gathered and shared to help regulators come up with a way to safely share that airspace with other aircrafts. 6:47. back to breaking news from overseas, from dubai international airport. a really stunning scene. thick black smoke can be seen coming from the boeing 777 that crash landed on the runway. six people from the united states were onboard. no one on that aircraft was hurt. a got of folks couldn't help the similarities here to the crash at sfo. >> it will take quite a while to determine the cause of today's crash landing. witnesses point out they

couldn't see landing gear. but you're right. it is worth noting the similarities. there you see asiana on the left and the emirates crash this morning on the right. same model of plane, 777. both crashed on landing. both during day light hours. asiana landed at 11:00 a.m., emirates at noon. and both in relatively clear weather. also says a lot that in most both cases most passengers were okay. three people were killed as a result of the asiana crash but inspectors determined they weren't wearing their cease belts at the time. taking a look at the markets. the dow is lower, the nasdaq lower. in in fact, this will be the eighth losing day on the dow if we close lower by the end. tesla will report its earnings this afternoon. it's been burning through cash. one of the reasons why so many investors objected to it buying solar city and falling behind in producing cars. metal straws, it turns out

here's what to expect. a sunny and comfortable finish to the day and our rest of the week will be a little bit cooler as fog builds up the coastline. this weekend near average temperatures with no major changes. at least along the coast. it's now 55 in palo alto. 57 in napa, san jose, and concord. morgan hill now at 54 degrees with highs today reaching into the mid 90s for fairfield and gusty dry winds. up to 91 degrees in livermore. san jose, 86 degrees. mostly some 70s as you head over toward oakland and 60s along the coast and in san francisco. our wind has changed direction. and we will move in from the north and then turn more northwesterly as we go through the day as the winds pick up 10 to 15 miles per hour. expect it to be more breezy today. low clouds and fog will move in farther inland to give most of the bay area some clouds as we get ready to start friday morning. irquality has improved. it's still pmoderate.

levels in the ozone where we do have warmer temperatures and smoke drifting in from the south that will give us moderate air quality in the south and east bay. high pressure continues to give us the very warm weather, even right at about average or slightly above. but as that movsz oes off to th east, cooler temperatures. stronger winds and more morning clouds that will be slow to clear as we go through the day, especially in san francisco. expect this weekend to top out at 65 degrees. for both saturday and sunday, and 85 degrees which will be an improvement over in the 90s. we'll feel today. even dipping quite a bit between thursday and friday. next week our temperatures slowly starts to go back up and it looks like it could get hot again. so enjoy this little break for the weekend while it lasts. let's head over to mike now to see what's happening as you head across cupertino. >> that's right. we have a crash in cupertino. update because i just heard about the crash. we got more details there. look at the rest of the bay, folks. recovery through hayward for south 880 but still slow past

the san mateo bridge. northbound 101. that is a slower drive. typically see slowing at 680 and 101 but that's all of the way up to the source of something going on here by sgac. i'm trying to clarify what's going on because that's an unusual slow stretch on 101. northbound 85 jams up toward stevens creek boulevard where a crash leaves one vehicle in the middle of the roadway. early slowing out of saratoga. now we'll take a look at the san mateo bridge. we talked about a slower drive coming off of the hayward side. that volume of traffic pushing over to the peninsula but you're right on schedule here and the peninsula no slowing yet for 101 through san mateo or heading north in towards san francisco. the bay bridge heading across from oakland into san francisco we have the backup, the left lane starting to fill in once again. no more brakes out of maze. back to you. >> thank you, mike. 6:53. stunning turn in the criminal trial against pg&e over pipeline safety.

on to find a man - missing after an update to break news. one woman is dead. 15-year-old girl hospitalized and the search is on right now to find a man missing after their car went off a cliff in the mountains near saratoga. >> driving the roads, how curvy they can be. "today in the bay's" bob redell is live at valley medical center where the teenage victim was taken. good morning, bob. >> reporter: good morning to you, laura and sam. doctors and nurses here at valley med are tending to this 15-year-old girl who suffered according to chp major injuries in this crash that took place overnight. you can see the video here from highway 9 in saratoga. just north of redwood gulch rode around 1:15 this morning. that car went off the road, down a cliff, about 30 feet. landing on its side. smashing into a tree. there are three people in the car. 15-year-old girl who i mentioned, a 19-year-old woman who died on the scene, and then a 29-year-old driver who did speak with chp. he's a man. they are still looking to this
